So excited to have Australian author Jessica Kate back with us this week! It was great to talk about her latest book, "Drive You Crazy," and upcoming projects. We both saw "Fall Guy" this month and wanted to discuss. This movie is a love letter to stunt people and it has it all - needle drops, romantic chemistry, scary stunts, split screens, unicorns, and the Sydney harbor as you've never seen it. This bold Christmas treat serves us a gingerbread flavored Overboard redo, without all the kidnapping unpleasantness. We have a sweet, hard-working widowed father of one, a thoughtful heiress, her Insta-obsessed boyfriend, and an amnesia storyline. And did we mention Jingle Bell Rock? Come for Lindsay, and stay for the predictable holiday fun. I'll wear the Valenyagi!
Bonnie, Laura, and Violet head to Bali (OK, Australia) for the most romantic movie of the year. Our sound quality is not 100% on this one but George and Julia are flawless. If you like RomComs as much as we do, we encourage you to check this one out. We need more of this - great settings, open endings, A-listers doing Roms again, more adult subjects like parenting and letting go, and movies that don't take themselves too seriously. Come for the movie stars, stay for the heartfelt moments. Just leave the bottle.
It's our 100th episode and we celebrated with our friends at YES Film Festival! We started this podcast with Nancy Myers ("The Holiday") and we thought another Nancy movie would be perfect for #100. Jack and Diane are fantastic, and Frances McDormand and Amanda Peet are so much fun to watch. And did we mention Keanu? Bonnie and Brittany head to New York City for a beautifully shot, little-seen Rom that is full of surprises. Spoiler alert - Ricky Gervais is our "Best in Show". In a RomCom. And that's just one of the many surprises. Written and directed by David Koepp (Jurassic Park, Mission: Impossible, Indiana Jones) and produced by Dreamworks, this movie is atypical in so many ways. Bonnie shed a tear at one point - have we mentioned there are surprises? If you haven't seen "Ghost Town", give it a shot. And remember, only floss the teeth you want to keep.
Beth and Bonnie take a trip to Singapore for the 2010s highest grossing RomCom. Nick asks his girlfriend Rachel to join him for a family wedding, and what a wedding it is! But why is Nick being treated like royalty on the airplane? Peik Lin and her family can fill Rachel in on all the details that Nick hasn't shared with his girlfriend of a year. This movie is a feast for the eyes, and the music is pretty incredible too. We love the cast diversity, the views, the storyline, but we especially love these strong women characters and the actresses who play them so well. Pull your cocktail dress out of the trunk and join us because the only thing crazier than love is family.
Join Laura and Bonnie for a sleepover - we're making popcorn, painting our nails, and watching Grease of course! The T-Birds and Pink Ladies are excited about Senior Year at Rydell High, but word is there is a new girl in town. This movie was a massive hit in the 1970s and 1980s and is one of today's most beloved musicals and RomComs. Does it hold up in 2022, we have some thoughts. Jess and Bonnie meet somewhat in the middle, Los Angeles, for an unpredictable comedy that Tom desperately wants to be romantic. Summer is willing to give it a shot but this story is about love. It's not a love story. Written and directed by newer filmmakers, our movie premiered at Sundance and earned Golden Globe nominations. Critics loved it and it makes for a fun discussion. Erin joins Bonnie on a trip to England to check in on Louisa who is in need of a new job. Working for Will Traynor was not what she expected, and that is mirrored in Erin's experience with this movie, not knowing the storyline. Brittany and Bonnie are headed to Rancho Carne, CA to check in with Torrance and the Toros as they defend their national championship. Spoiler alert - the previous years' cheers were stolen and the team has to rebuild if they want any chance of succeeding in Daytona. This movie was BIG in 2000 and it still holds up pretty well today. The loser sneeze may be dead, but Oh Mickey, you are still so fine.
Mike joins Brittany and Bonnie on a quest to get Penny back to her family in England. An end of world romance not your thing? We'd suggest you give this one a chance - it's a dark comedy, but it has so much heart. Actually it may have it all - Keira Knightley, Steve Carell, an awesome soundtrack, Sorry the dog, a female writer/director, intense circumstances, a quest, the beach, so many great cameos... Nice Knowing You.
Bianca and Bonnie are headed to the Massachusetts coast for a summer that might start out pretty sucky, but we bet will end on a high note. Excellent writing, directing, casting, acting - this small budget Sundance success story really has it all. Come for the 4 Oscar winners in memorable roles; stay for Duncan and Owen's friendship. As the movie poster says, "We've All Been There". Pop 'n Lock!
Diane and Bonnie are off to New York City to check in on Jason Bateman (our first JB!) and Jennifer Aniston and that cutie Sebastian. No one talks about this RomCom much, but it's a fun favorite of ours. It's got a small cast and everyone shines - who wouldn't want Juliette Lewis and Jeff Goldblum as your best friends? Hypochondria? Oh my God I have that.
Brittany and Bonnie are heading to Maryland for a wedding we haven't exactly been invited to. While not your traditional RomCom, this movie has a lot of Rom (yes, some absolutely cringey), and is said to have been instrumental in reviving the R-rated comedy. The Best Friend and Imposters & Secret vibes are strong here, but this movie has it all - Dwight Yoakam, balloon animals, and maple syrup. Mom! The meatloaf!
Bonnie and Brittany are headed to Chicago for Bonnie Hunt's stellar offering. We can't stop describing the movie as "sweet" and "refreshing" and the critics agree. Minnie Driver and David Duchovny are magic together (who knew?), but we may like the Grandpa Gang even more. Join us for dinner at O'Reilly's, Chicago's only Italian-Irish restaurant. Oh, and Grace has Bob's dead wife's heart!

While this movie is not for families, it does have waterfalls, end of film bloopers, NIck Offerman and Kathryn Hahn. It's Jen and Jason's 5th movie together - and they have No Ragrets, not even one letter. Happy Birthday, America!
Violet and Bonnie are headed to Seattle for a little-seen independent about trying to adult through a quarter-life crisis. If you like your romances a little quieter, well-acted, and completely relatable, you will like "Laggies". Did we mention the winning combo of Keira Knightley, Sam Rockwell, and Chloe Grace Moretz? We've got female friendships, a mid-century modern vibe, and Shelley the tortoise. Come for the coming-of-age storyline, but stay for the relatable comedy. It's not a joke if it's not insulting.
Ginger and Bonnie are headed to Barden University to check in on the Bellas after what happened at last year's ICAA Finals at Lincoln Center. Aubrey and Chloe have their work cut out for them, but it will be a ton of fun for us. We love a musical and this one delivers Mariah Carey chart toppers alongside anthems from 1985 John Hughes' classics. Join us for cup songs, mash-ups, and riff-offs. Aca-scuse me?
Leslie and Bonnie are headed to Philly for a romantic dramedy that steers clear of the tropes, but has a lot to say about love, family, loss, and mental health. This movie was nominated for 8 Oscars including the top 6 categories and was hugely successful at the box office. JLaw and Bradley at their best, but the supporting cast and writing make this movie worth watching again and again. Don't you worry about a thing.
Bonnie and Brittany are headed to Michigan for Grosse Pointe High's 10 year reunion! Back-to-back John Cusack's for us and we couldn't be happier. While this 1990s cult classic is in no way a typical RomCom, Minnie and John make the most of it. Oh, and did we mention Joan Cusack too? Come for the awkward reunion backdrop, stay for the indie music, skinny ties, and dark comedy. Do you get dental with that?
Brittany and Bonnie are headed to Palm Springs for our 4th Julia Roberts, 3rd John Cusack, and 2nd Catherine Zeta-Jones, Billy Crystal, and Hank Azaria. This movie was a huge hit 20 years ago and watching these Oscar and Golden Globe winning actors, it's evident why. While the jokes don't always land, the cast is clearly having a ball. Join us to discuss early 2000s fashion, the complete lack of a soundtrack, and Julia and John at their peak. You buttered my toast!
Sarah is back and we're headed to Rhode Island to help Grandma and Grandpa close up the house for the season. This movie has it all - unrequited love, imposters & secrets, family drama, a touch football game on the front lawn, a talent show and, dare we say, Love at First Sight? An all-star cast delivers a warm blanket of a show. As they say, my love opens the door, so join us!
Sarah and Bonnie are headed to Toronto for a Marc Platt innovation that hits just about all the RomCom categories we have. Scott has to battle the evil exes if he is serious about Ramona, and we think he is up to the task. The cast, oh the cast for this one. We've got a vegan ex, a transmedia narrative, and loads of supporting characters we absolutely love. Come from Michael Cera; stay for Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Mae Whitman, Brie Larson, Allison Pill, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Ellen Wong...
This is a big one! Diane and Bonnie have loooong histories with Julie Andrews's classic and it made for a wonderful discussion over wine, raspberries, and chocolate (Julie's favorite treats). You've seen it, you liked it, maybe you even love it. This movie has it all: an overture setting the stage, a gazebo for two of the most romantic scenes, Oscars, Golden Globes, dancing in the fields and streets of Salzburg, serious Love/Hate chemistry, and some great side-eye from Kurt. Pour a glass of pink lemonade, and join us to discuss: how DO you solve a problem like Maria?
Leslie and Bonnie are returning to Chicago for the wedding of the new millennium. Back in 2002 this movie was massive, making it one of the highest grossing RomComs ever. Based on Nia Vardalos's real life and one-woman show, this low budget phenomenon is still utterly delightful. It's all at once a truly realistic family comedy, a thoughtful romance, and a coming of age winner. Over the top and subtly sweet. Just don't forget the Windex.
Brittany is back! Bonnie and Brittany head to Chicago for a sweet Keanu and Sandy B. reunion that is as mind-warping as it is good. Alex and Kate pass the chemistry test, even if they are in only a couple of scenes together. But those scenes are worth it. I mean, they did win the 2006 Teen Choice Award for Best Liplock! Come for the reunion of two of our favorites; stay for romance, architecture, and our new favorite Jack. I'm very sure, this never happened before.
John and Bonnie are heading to Pennsylvania for a classic Love/Hate, along with some Imposters and Secrets, and a little Based On (the Broadway play). It's 1940 and you can't get much bigger than Katharine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant in "The Philadelphia Story". This Oscar winning Rom includes mild hijinks, a whole lot of fashion, and a twist that makes for good discussion in the episode. The time to make up you mind about people is never. Join us!
Bonnie and Leslie return to Ireland for an unapologetically romantic tale about love, loss, and recovery. Written and directed by one of the top book-to-movie adapters in recent years, the actors are given a lot of room to really BE these characters. And Hilary Swank is given a fantastic wardrobe. This movie has gorgeous views, unexpected music, and 2 karaoke scenes. You'll love it til the end.
Leslie and Bonnie head to Frell (Ireland) for this present-day Cinderella story complete with elves, ogres, evil stepsisters, and a fairy godmother with good intentions. This one grows on you, especially if you don't mind charming musical numbers, a throwback to "The Princess Bride", and surprise cameos (Heidi Klum). If you haven't seen Anne and Hugh in this... RomCom? Kids Movie? you might be plesantly surprised. Grab some popcorn and join us (that's not an order).
Bianca and Bonnie are headed to the French countryside for this charming tale about family, food, friendship, culture, and competition. If you haven't seen this Oprah and Spielberg produced gem, watch it and then listen along. The movie does the beloved book justice, and you'll be planning your next vacation just like we are. Maybe brakes break for a reason.
Bonnie and Violet are headed to "a remote island in the Atlantic" to look for the Crown of Fire alongside a slightly crazed Daniel Radcliffe. Wearing nothing but sequins, Sandra Bullock is along for the adventure in our 7th Sandy B discussion. Thankfully, Channing Tatum is putting a rescue together. Come for Sandra Bullock at her best and stay for friends falling in love, the Chicago skyline and great family dynamics. Thank God they changed the original title of "Coma Guy".
Bonnie and Brittany head to California for some classic dad freak outs, but Diane Keaton is there to make it all right. We have Kieran Culkin as the most adorable little brother in film history, along with vulnerable and wry Steve Martin, which happens to be our favorite Steve. And there's Hank and Frank and swans in the front yard. We're calling this one a classic. Slide down the bannister with us because life is full of surprises.
Bonnie and Brittany are returning to London for Hugh Grant's best??? grown up performance. Couples may not be the future, but Nicholas Hoult showed us he clearly had a bright one. We have Toni Collette, Rachel Weisz, a Nick Hornby story, and a Chris Weitz production. They'll kill you softly with their song.
Bonnie and Brittany are heading to Wisconsin for an outside-the-box RomComDrom with fantastic writing, acting, and all the feels. Chances are, if you've seen "Lars" then you have a special place in your heart for him and his family like we do. If you haven't seen it, give it a try. Come for the Ryan Gosling of it all, and stay for the acceptance, the sweetness, and all the scenes with Dr. Dagmar. This must be the place.
Brittany and Bonnie are heading to Colorado for a, wait what? That's Vancouver? Ok, Brittany and Bonnie are heading to the idyllic town of Nelson for a Steve Martin masterpiece, slightly based on a beloved French book, wait what? It was a play? OK - here's what we know. Steve Martin is excellent, the story is sweet and the movie really holds up. Carpe Diem!
Join Bonnie, Brittany, and friends as they head to San Antonio, Texas (home of the Alamo, I forgot the Alamo) to see what happens when Gracie Lou steps out of her comfort zone, makes some good friends, and takes out the bad guys. Sandra Bullock is THE BEST at playing competent but very, very human. Yeah, we think you're gorgeous. RomCom Live #2!
This one will sneak up on you. Come for the Jane Austen premise, Keri Russell's charm, and the Jennifer Coolidge of it all. Sabrina was a beloved movie back in the 90s for both of us, but it surprisingly was not a box office or critical success. Shocker! We love the timelessness (minus those pleats and cell phones), the humor, the Greg Kinnear, the eating on the ground, and the grumpy Harrison Ford of this dare-we-say classic? Pull out your champagne glasses and join us!

While this big budget movie was a huge hit, it feels like a quieter, smaller story in a way, and we're here for it. Cut a slice of clementine cake and join us for this sweet and poignant Rom.
Bonnie and Brittany head to Concord, Massachusetts to meet up with Marmee and the girls, Aunt March, Mr. Laurence and so many other cherished characters for a terrific adaptation of the 1860s book. Who knew there were so many movies based on Louisa May Alcott's work? Whether you prefer the 1994 version (Brittany) or just like good writing, acting, and directing - this is a great watch. Sandy and Hugh debuted at #2 behind LOTR-Two Towers, so this was a perfect time to ask Brittany the lingering question from our Instagram discussion - "Are LOTR/The Hobbit ROMS?" Then we jump on our Segway and head to NYC to join two of our favorite leads. They have nothing in common, aren't sure they like each other, become best friends, and then maybe something more? There's a reason this movie made $199M and it's at least partially because it looks like these actors truly enjoy each other. Order up some Chinese food and join us!
We're headed to North Shore High School in Evanston, IL to see how high school compares to jungle life - lines up pretty well! Cady is headed to the back building with Janice and Damian, while the Plastics get ready for gym class. This highly quotable movie has a terrific script, unbelievable secondary scene stealers, and so much pink. So get in losers, we're going shopping.

Bonnie and Brittany head to the Midwest to watch the Rockford Peaches vie for the All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League championship. This based-on-a-true-story com with a subtle rom will have you feeling some serious nostalgia. Come for Tom Hanks and director Penny Marshall, stay for the great female friendships, a still-debated mystery, and even a little crying (in baseball). If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. Hard is what makes it great.
John joins Bonnie on a trip to NYC for our first Katherine Heigl, our first dance on a bar, and a whole lot of unrequited love. Screenplay writer Aline Brosh McKenna and director Anne Fletcher save this movie, but we have written a better outcome for the main and secondary characters. P.S. Please give Judy Greer her own movie, Hollywood!
We're heading to Beverly Hills for one of the greatest RomComs, high school movies, and Jane Austen adaptations out there. Put on some plaid, grab a Lemon Snapple, and make a lap before committing to a location. We're discussing all things Clueless today!

Emily Blunt shines in a role she fought for, and the supporting cast helps deliver the goal of "a period film for an MTV audience". And really, she can't marry the one they want her to marry.
Bonnie and Brittany head (back) to NYC for a classic that deserves a rewatch! Combine a prolific writer, a renowned director, a singer at the height of her acting career, a young actor known for his unconventional style, and an incredible supporting cast, and you have the delicious treat "Moonstruck". Ma, we love him awful.
We're heading to Greece (actually Croatia) for arguably the better of the two ABBA movies adapted from the stage musical.
