Wunderblock Records

FOR BOOKING, REMIXING, MASTERING REQUESTS: booking@wunderblock.org

The term of Wunderblock is related to the concept by Siegmund Freud from his work “Notiz über den “Wunderblock” (1925). Freud regarded the Wunderblock as a perfect metaphor for the process of recording memories. According to Freud, the mind records memories continually receiving stimuli and transferring traces of that information to the unconscious to be stored as memories.

Experimental techno project Wunderblock was founded ten years ago in Moscow, Russia by Michael Teplov, also known from the late 90’s for his Ill Doggy project on Salo Records, Berlin and as one half of Multipliar on the famous Cologne imprint Trapez. In 2008 Michael has teamed up with producers Igor Ivanov and Vladimir Kochenov to join forces in a creation of the unique Wunderblock sound – an eclectic mix of techno, dub and experimental electronica with a touch of ambience and a jazzy feel.

During the last decade Wunderblock has released a wide spectrum of music on such labels as Planet Rhythm, Children Of Tomorrow, FormResonance, Labrynth, Ketama Records, and more. In 2013 the team has decided to start its own imprint with more underground, darker techno sound. Thus Wunderblock Records was launched, and now it is among of the most significant labels on the underground techno scene. The Label releases, digital and also vinyl, are regularly supported by top techno DJ’s worldwide.

After a powerful debut in 2015 at Berlin’s legendary landmark Tresor Club, Wunderblock has launched the series of the Label Showcases in Berlin, Moscow, St.Petersburg and Nantes.

Wunderblock Records and La Notte Di Architetto label are proud to present a debut release of a new project, Urstadt, ruled by Michael Teplov of Wunderblock and Nikita Melnikov, also known as Relic Radiation. Been released on the Planet Rhythm label before, and now the duo appears in a pure new form with fresh techno material.

The EP is called “Ritornels Of Decay” and presents the Urstadt duo’s view on the state of the electronic music scene during the post-Covid times, through the prism of classic Detroit and Birmingham techno grooves. As a special VIP guest featured Andreas Sandoval, also known as Developer, with a hyperkinetic, ultra-minimalistic rework of the first track.

Overall, all the tracks of the EP are like polyrhythmic, slowly developing mechanospheres with a touch of cold-euphoric and dreamcore harmonies, fused altogether in a modern superhybridic way. For true techno believers.

A Wunderblock trio in full bloom returns to its dub and ambient roots with a milestone album. The release represents the smoky atmosphere at their Moscow studio, where numerous jam sessions were recorded by the band during 2008-2018. The tracks are cinematic and narrative — a kaleidoscope of dreams that journeys from allusions to David Lynch (“U-Turn To Lost Highway”) and Thomas Pinchon (“Schwarzgerät”), through the irony of mythological paradoxes (“Achilles And The Tortoise”) and the sincerity of exotic nature (“Safari Dub”), to the bloody nightmare of the Russian Revolution (“Red Oktober”, remixed by Arcuation). It’s an anthology of Wunderblock’s downtempo, non-techno works, a mesmerizing trip from dark ambient and IDM to post-dub and noise.

Written & produced by Wunderblock [Igor Ivanov, Michael Teplov, Vladimir Kochenov] during 2008-2018. Track 9 remixed by Michael Chernev. Track 2 courtesy of KultFRONT. Track 8 courtesy of FormResonance. Mastered & edited by Michael Teplov at Principi Di Musica, Moscow, Russia, in 2020. Artwork by Roman Sht. Layout by Michael Teplov. Format: CD / Digital.

A\V/M is a new project by Finnish artist Antti Mikonmäki, who explores the dark, deep, atmospheric, majestic and intense sides of techno music, with a history of taking influences from such genres as industrial, EBM, jungle, neoclassical, synth punk and extreme metal. The project takes inspiration from various currents of philosophy, psychology, religious symbolism, social issues, technology, psychedelia and others, exploring the hominid condition by means of aural stimulation of the senses using digitized instruments. With help from Folgsamkeitfaktor’s headliner Red Nailmaker, who made the pounding rave anthem remix of the first track, this release presents itself as a true modern technopunk masterpiece.

Hard times require strong music, and we’re finishing this hardest year with a few releases of hardest techno in a row. And now, after two years, we’re happy to welcome back a techno veteran and a true legend, Dave Tarrida, who brought us a brand new bunch of killer tracks. Fantastic worlds of imaginary monsters are going through our heads with these stormy and aggressive sounds. Taking his energy from the ‘90s, Dave Tarrida accumulates the power of these three decades of techno in one sure shot. On remixing duties, young and very promising St.Petersburg's hard techno producer, Andrei Mironov, also known as Ornviom, also joined the release with his own vision of the title track, even faster and heavier.

A. The Trickster (Setup) B. You Hear Me (Talk Dilettant Strategies)

Hypnoskull was created in 1992 as a solo project in order to experiment in the area of electronic noise combined with rhythmical structures. In the first years of its existence, Hypnoskull was releasing cassettes and tracks on international labels in the so-called cassette network, a widely spread network of independent and experimental musicians and artists who expressed themselves throughout limited tape releases often including artworks, ideas, texts. In 1998, Hypnoskull signed to the German label ant-zen. That is not a coincidence: ant-zen stands for ‘anti-zensur’ (anti-censorship), one of the main starting points of the provocative Hypnoskull project. Patrick Stevens does not limit himself to just producing music as such, albums always include a severe message, a thought-provoking underlying concept text, questions. The main philosophy: ‘the dance floors, the clubs, the festivals… are staged warzones with a different set of rules – a therapeutic zone where hidden anger and even aggression of both the artists as well as the spectators can be released in a proper, human way. Music as a means to open up the deepest anger inside human beings, letting it out in a way which is not harmful to others". A strange symbiosis between the two worlds, Patrick Stevens is a part of the techno and the industrial scene. Techno once being a genre promoting an open, positive mindset, industrial on the other hand being a highly nihilistic, philosophic but pitch black reflection on society. The mix of both musical as well as content wise elements of these genres result in what Hypnoskull is all about. Added to this an explosive mixture of post-war and contemporary western subversive philosophy – in a rather impulsive manner – makes the project what it is today, after 30 years of existence.

Now for Folgsamkeitfaktor, Hypnoskull presents his brand new 7-inch single "The Trickster". From industrial techno monster of the title track on A side, to the slow burning B side track with vocals, an eerily predictive textual dissection on the state of our contemporary societies, written in 2013, rediscovered in an old notebook and recorded in 2020. The release sounds extremely massive and crystal clear at the same time. Mastered by not less legendary German techno & EBM figure, Thomas P. Heckmann, the record is ready to smash the floors and, with a collage artwork, hand-made by Patrick Stevens himself, also may take place on a shelf of any authentic vinyl collector. Prepare for this brain-smashing industrial technopunk dual-charge bombshell!

Written, produced, lyrics, vox, artwork by Patrick Stevens. Mastered by Thomas Heckmann at Trope Mastering. Format: 7" Vinyl / Digital. Distributed by Ready Made. All rights reserved. Copyright control. [p][c] 2020 Folgsamkeitfaktor [FSFR004] .

A1 Berlin 95 A2 Melody Massacre B1 Frankfurt 2000 B2 Visionaries

Mørbeck is one of the key figures of the Berlin underground scene, which makes him a fitting piece of the puzzle to Wunderblock Records’ hyper-formulated techno vision. A resident DJ and purveyor of the club scene in Berlin, Mørbeck has released on numerous labels but his most recent achievement stands as his 2013 set up of imprint ‘Code Is Law’, a home for creativity in the techno universe. Now he delivers infectious EP ‘Berlin 95’ drawing on acid and techno influences and blending his unique style with a love for the 80’s and 90’s that inspired him so.

First up we have title track ‘Berlin 95’, nothing less than a forward-thinking acid trance techno to get the heart racing and showcase Mørbeck in his production skills. The vibe gets heavier on ‘Melody Massacre’, a slow-burner featuring heaving percussion and snipped ethereal vocals and synth work which intoxicate the listener.

‘Frankfurt 2000’ is a swirling mass of shimmery percussion, employing those frantic synths which are synonymous with 90’s rave culture that Mørbeck is so inspired by. The last track on the EP finalises an outstanding set, an addictive vocal pattern is combined with twinkling melodies and a moody bass, setting the tone alight.

Berlin 95 EP is just another star to add to Mørbeck’s list of accomplishments, its uniquely produced elements making it a timeless piece of classic techno.

  2. As Strong as the Objectors
  3. Celestial Inbetween
  4. The Chill of Them
  5. What We Forged Now (OCD Remix)
  6. Celestial Inbetween (Danny Skripp Remix)

Peter Kirn hails from Kentucky, USA, but has spent more time in past years in his adoptive home Berlin and around the former Communist bloc, with ongoing collaborations orbiting around Wunderblock's Moscow HQ. Chameleonic multitasker, electronic music composer and technologist, he has imagined a densely-packed, driving, dark form of cinematic techno experiments for Objectors. The extended EP mixes dreamlike harmonies and polyrhythms with aggressive, speedy subterranean techno, packed with unapologetically dirty and complex noises.

The EP’s opener, raunchy, relentless “What We Forged Now,” gives way to dubby, layered rhythmic complexity in "As Strong as the Objectors." "Celestial Inbetween" combines frenetic energy and melancholy atop broken kicks, for hyperactive ambient techno. “The Chill of Them” is more direct, a grimy, darkly distorted ending.

The two remixes draw from two other defiantly underground artists. Up-and-coming artist OCD, aka Italian-born, Berlin-based Chiara Bubu, has made the rounds of Berlin's grimiest parties and XXX-rated floors with her fiercely high-tempo style, and recently was included on a Fabrik compilation. She overlocks "What We Forged Now" into blistering, peak-hour destruction ready to waste the weak. From Kharkiv, Ukraine, Danny Skripp draws out "Celestial Inbetween" into a murky ambient anthem, thick with sound and layers of soot.

Written and produced by Peter Kirn in Berlin, Germany. Track 5 remixed by Chiara Bubu in Berlin, Germany. Track 6 remixed by Danny Skripp in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Edinburgh born Chris Braun, otherwise known as Duellist, is set to drop a hard-hitting new release on the immersive Wunderblock's sub label Folgsamkeitfaktor, in partnership with Berlin-based Ready Made Distribution. Duellist has already surpassed a dedicated following with his forward-thinking industrial sound. Known for breaking boundaries within the techno sphere, the primarily industrial and EBM influenced Folgsamkeitfaktor choose wisely with Duellist as the deliverer on their third release, a swarming industrial 7-inch EP titled Hereditary.

‘Hereditary (Original Mix)’ is energetic from the start, real industrial techno to sink your teeth into, the producer clearly pulling some unique textures from his love of grunge and metal. Truly powerful, the track takes you into another dimension from its smoky beginning until locking you into a frenzy of kick drums and pounding bass. The track is given an atmospheric remix by fellow friend and producer Swarm Intelligence, lowering the BPM and increasing the distortion on this dark and tense banger of a remix.

Not to be missed among the industrial underworld, the handle-with-care EP will be delivered on the 27th of January via Folgsamkeitfaktor.

Written and produced by Chris Braun in Glasgow, Scotland. Track B remixed by Simon Hayes. Mastered at Prodam Berlin. Format: 7" Vinyl / Digital. Distributed by Ready Made. All rights reserved. Copyright control. [p][c] 2020 Folgsamkeitfaktor [FSFR003]

A. Basilisk Part 1 B. Basilisk Part 2

Wunderblock Records is a key cog in the techno machine, churning out a number of upper echelon underground techno releases. Now they are looking to take things further. In a partnership with Berlin-based Ready Made Distribution, they would like to present their new vinyl sublabel Folgsamkeitfaktor (an „obedience factor“ or „willingness to follow“). The new imprint will be focused on heavy industrial and EBM-influenced technopunk sound. Wunderblock Records are known for pushing the boundaries of modern techno and looking for that experimental sound that will be permanently ingrained in the listener‘s memory. The Wunderblock was Dr. Freud’s concept of how the mind records memories, and the Russian label‘s bosses (Michael Teplov and Vladimir Kochenov) have been known for creative ways of staying in the public‘s mind with showcases in Moscow, Berlin, Nantes, and St. Petersburg. The masterminds are developing this concept further by looking beyond the present and looking to deliver a post-techno sound, raw, mechanical, tinged with EBM and post-punk flair; all the while building an air of familiarity even if what lies ahead is the unknown.

The initial release is a 7-inch record by new Berlin-based anonymous post-industrial music project, Red Nailmaker. The namesake is actually derived from St.Petersburg‘s steel-rolling factory, a monument of constructivism built in the 1930s. The music of the project is close to constructivists‘ vision of art - it‘s abstract, mechanistic and raw in its form. The synonymousness with this art form is uncanny: the methodical and structured manufacturing of techno is masked in the true beauty and emotion of the genre. Stylistically it‘s a boiling brew of techno, industrial, rhythmic noise and dub, a very apt introductory release for the newly birthed sublabel.

Written & produced by Red Nailmaker. Mastered at Prodam Berlin. Format: 7" Vinyl / Digital Distributed by Ready Made. All rights reserved. Copyright control. [p][c] 2019 Folgsamkeitfaktor. A division of Wunderblock Records. [FSFR001]

Heroic individuals bringing the necessary changes never had it easy, when the changes threatened the comfort of the people trying to keep control. These brave people who shook the archaic yet mainstream accepted systems were historically and to present date ostracised, ridiculed, locked away forever and violently disposed of. Emmeline Pankhurst, as seen on the cover, was arrested many times during her campaign to bring equality for women to have the same voting rights as their fellow men. The status quo tried to silence her, lock her up and tell her she was wrong to demand these changes that from our modern perspective seem absolutely normal.

Wunderblock Records is proud to present a debut album by Australian-born, Berlin-based Saxon Jörgensen, also known as Halv Drøm. He burst onto the Berlin's industrial techno scene being released on such labels as Fleisch, X-IMG and Total Black. Now with a studio help from such a significant scene figure like Blush Response, Halv Drøm has recorded this outstanding album as a tribute to all the heroes, who are brave to fight for basic human rights. The album contains seven uncompromised EBM pieces packed in a strong techno jacket, framed with a pair of pounding remixes - by Duellist and Wunderblock.

Written and produced by Saxon Jörgensen in Berlin, Germany. Tracks 1 and 5 engineered and mixed by Saxon Jörgensen. Tracks 2, 3, 4, 6, 7 engineered and mixed by Blush Response. We collected them, impressions, nightmares, fragments of memories, and we loved them, despised them or feared them. Watching them in movies, reading about them in books or hearing about them from talented storytellers - there were the creatures that escorted us in different stops in our lives, becoming part of our fantasy, filling our imagination with anxiety, awe or disgust. We all have our creatures - those who carved their figures on our soul, as young children through adolescences and - if we're lucky - still doing so as we grew older. It took Marion Cobretti about two years to gather his cadre of creatures into his first album. Those he chose to take with him on his journey are indeed very different from one another - each represents different aspects of fear and loathing - and each became a track, very different than the rest. The screeches, the sounds, deep yet energetic techno - all attempt to represent an interpretation of the sound or figure of the respective creature. With eight original tracks and five remixes, Wunderblock Records invites you to join this journey, and bring your own demons, ghosts and favorite or despicable creatures with you.

Written and produced by Marion Cobretti in Berlin, Germany. Track 8 remixed by Oliver Deutschmann. Track 9 remixed by Donna Tellos. Track 10 remixed by The Effaith. Track 11 remixed by Derek M. 4. False Flag (d_func. Remix)

Spanish born and Scottish bred techno veteran Dave Tarrida started his career in early 90's on such system-forming labels as Tresor and his own Sativae Records. Now he's still in full power with massive releases on Nachtstrom Schalplatten (also as Joyless project with Funk D'Void), on his second label Autofake, and now also on Wunderblock Records with this staggering soundtrack for a post-apocalypse discotheque. Three original tracks are like shells in a cannon: they present a sparkling, roaring, rumbling machine funk for true dancefloor demolition. On remixing duties is another techno legend Alexander Kowalski a.k.a. d_func. (Kanzleramt, Damage Music) with a more dubbed out, but still smashing banger.

Written and produced by David Tarrida in Vienna, Austria. Track 4 remixed by Alexander Kowalski in Berlin, Germany. Mastered by Michael Teploff @ Principi Di Musica, Moscow, Russia. Artwork by Acrob.
