Bryan Fischer here with today’s Life and Liberty Minute. It is utterly impossible for a football coach to violate the First Amendment even if he sets out to do it. Yet Joe Kennedy has been fired for this very thing for praying at midfield after football games. But Coach Kennedy didn’t violate the First Amendment. First, he’s not Congress. The first word in the First Amendment is “Congress.” It applies only to Congress. Only Congress can violate the First Amendment. Secondly, Coach Kennedy has no authority to pass a law picking one denomination and establishing it as the official church of the United States. Only Congress can do that. And thirdly, every branch of the federal government, including the judiciary, is forbidden to prohibit the free exercise of religion, which is exactly what the Court did when it shut down Coach Kennedy’s post game prayers. Bottom line: it was the 9th Circuit which violated the Constitution, not Joe Kennedy.
