Two notable things happened recently.
First, State Rep. Jeff Leach described House Speaker Dade Phelan's leadership—which has lead to the killing of legislation that would ban genital mutilation surgery on children—as "principled."
Sadly, this was after Leach knew that Phelan worked with State Rep. Dustin Burrows to kill HB 1399 and that he slow-walked SB 1311, as well. Knowing this JUST happened, Leach tweeted this:
https://twitter.com/leachfortexas/status/1396954518835900425
Kind of disturbing, right?
We'll get into more details on this issue on today's episode.
Also, Attorney General Ken Paxton revealed that he thinks that Abbott's mask mandates were "nanny-state" policies that the left has used to "control and micromanage" Texans.
Of course, he did so while praising Abbott for ending those nanny-state policies. It's amazing how some Republicans only have the courage to call out leftist policies when Democrats do it, but when our own governor does it, they cover for him.
These statements by Leach and Paxton are what we focus on in today's podcast. I hope you enjoy!

State Rep. James Talarico (D-Round Rock) led the Texas House in a sad and revealing prayer last week.
Former State Rep. Jonathan Stickland was the first to speak about this issue, and Talarico is now getting national attention for his deceiving prayer. Democrats across the nation are praising him for spewing universalist language, right in the heart of Texas.
Yesterday in the #txlege "Republican" leadership allowed a progressive liberal to open the day with this "prayer." I am disgusted such blasphemy was spoken in the chamber. Lord forgive us for turning our state over to this trash. Where are the bold followers of Jesus Christ? pic.twitter.com/YYCHyzprcZ
— Jonathan Stickland (@RepStickland) March 25, 2021 Earlier this year, conservatives were outraged by Congress closing a prayer with "Awomen," rather than "Amen." This is offensive, but Talarico's prayer was just as bad—if not worse.
The Texas House is not a body that is led by a strong moral ethic; this much we know is true, and it's important that we recognize that. It changes the way you address the Legislature and what you expect from them.
Have a blessed week.
The battle over government-mandated power prices that have left ratepayers on the hook for billions of dollars has put Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick at odds with Gov. Greg Abbott. Abbott is also teaming up with House Speaker Dade Phelan to keep the Texas House from being allowed to take a position on this policy.
State Rep. Cole Hefner, a member who is very close to Dade Phelan, decided it was time for him to prioritize the GOP agenda. The Republican Party of Texas has 9 priorities, and most legislators have kept from supporting them. Hefner recently announced that he was authoring, or co-authoring, 8 agenda items. What was strange was that, instead of co-authoring 1 or all 3 of the currently filed constitutional carry proposals, Hefner copied and pasted State Rep. Kyle Biedermann's bill into his own bill. Similarly, instead of co-authoring State Rep. Bryan Slaton's monument protection bill, he copied and pasted and filed the same bill with his name on it. Hefner also copied State Rep. Steve Toth's legislation regarding banning sex change surgeries on minor children.
It's times like this that reveal a truth that we all know. For house leadership, personality trumps policy. Honestly I don't know if we will actually protect monuments this year, but more important to many politicians, is who gets the credit.
Recently State Rep. Matt Krause tweeted out an antithetical message to that of Hefner:
5th Session in a row we’ve been working on that concept. Thanks for the acknowledgment @JasonVaughn! But I don’t care how we get it done - as long as it gets signed into law. It’s good policy! https://t.co/jwV1yNCkdc
— Matt Krause (@RepMattKrause) March 20, 2021 Ronald Reagan famously kept this quote on his desk:
“There is no limit to what a man can do or where he can go if he does not mind who gets the credit.”
Hopefully the Texas House gets past this personality contest and starts to focus on actually delivering conservative results. Texas needs it, and we're done with the excuses we keep hearing every session.
I hope you enjoy this week's episode.
Governor Greg Abbott is opening Texas tomorrow. This is good news for Texans.
The sad thing is that not only does Gov. Abbott believe he single-handedly is the one who gets to decide if Texas is open, he believes that he single-handedly gets to decide which businesses are open and which facial coverings must be worn by all Texans.
Today we take a walk down memory lane. When the pandemic first hit, Abbott claimed that a statewide mask mandate was not in alignment with the views that Texas had on freedom and liberty. Then as the political pressure mounted, he calculated that his legacy would be better off if he instituted a statewide mask mandate similar to that of New York and California.
Abbott assumed that less emotional governors like Florida's Ron DeSantis would be proved wrong and his unwillingness to have a statewide mask mandate would prove ill-informed and lead to more death. He was wrong. And it took him eight months of mandates to decide he was wrong.
Now, State Rep. Dustin Burrows is working desperately against the Texas Senate and the Texas Republican Party to pass legislation that endorses Abbott's dictatorial handling of the pandemic.
The good news for Texans is that State Sen. Brian Birdwell, along with many Texas senators, is pushing legislation to end Abbott's overreach. Right now, the only Republican senators who haven't signed on to support Birdwell's legislation are: * Kelly Hancock * Joan Huffman * Bryan Hughes * Jane Nelson * Kel Seliger * Larry Taylor
If you care about the Lone Star State, you will enjoy this podcast.
State Rep. Bryan Slaton forced a debate on abortion right out of the gate. Then, he took on the most liberal mayor in Texas.
Today, we sit down and talk about Slaton's first 60 days in office and what he thinks of State Rep. Dustin Burrows' attempt to endorse Governor Abbott's shutdown orders with HB 3.
Take 30 minutes to hear, from the inside, why the Texas House is moving so slowly and what Texans can do to move a conservative agenda forward.

The more I read this bill, the worse it got. Today, I sat down with two conservative lawyers, Matt Rinaldi and Tony McDonald. They honestly do an excellent job pointing out the significant flaws in HB 3.
This legislation gives the governor, during a pandemic, dictatorial authority over Texas citizens and businesses; it also threatens businesses who don't obey every one of Gov. Abbott's executive orders, with legal liability due to their disobedience. It's an attempt to create more loyal subjects, not freer citizens.
The worldview of this bill is one that runs antithetical to our Founding Fathers, the state Constitution, and the Republican Party priorities that clearly state executive power needs to be curtailed.
State Rep. Dustin Burrows is declaring open warfare with Allen West, any state representative who has criticized Abbott, and any business that disobeyed Abbott's shutdown orders. This bill is a direct contradiction to the position of Sen. Charles Perry, who is also a constituent of Burrows.
It's truly remarkable just how much this bill is a pure endorsement of the big government dictatorial actions of Abbott. Not only that, but Speaker Dade Phelan has prioritized the passage of this bill by giving it such a low bill number.
Instead of handling these issues separately, like the Texas Senate, House leadership has decided to use D.C. tactics of putting everything in one omnibus bill, which means there are some little nuggets of good things to cover up their destruction of the Texas Constitution. Hopefully, this is not a trend that Phelan continues. We shall see.
Today I sit down with a long term fellow conservative warrior and friend, Senator Bob Hall.
Here is what some of you might not know. Bob Hall has been talking about protecting our power grid ever since he got elected to the Senate 6 years ago. There is no person better informed on the threats to the grid. Senator Hall has also been asking his fellow legislators to protect the grid for his entire tenure.
None of the grid related legislation that Senator Hall has pushed has become law and the question remains; will the legislature take a leadership role or reactive role in fixing the issue.
You will learn a lot if you are able to take 30 minutes to listen to this conversation.

Wealthy government-subsidized oligarchies have been exposed. Tony Tinderholt and Bob Hall started asking for more accountability and oversight over our grid long ago and have been mocked for doing so.
Power companies, their lobbyists and their PAC's have worked tirelessly to keep politicians on their side. Now that millions of Texans are without power and lives are literally being lost, the winds have shifted. Today I take a few minutes to open your eyes to a few of the issues that have been going on for the last several years and just how hard it has been to hold this system accountable.
Now a lot of politicians feel the need to do something about it, which is good, but we need to fight to make sure real reform takes place.
God Bless,
Luke

Character matters, and religious liberty isn't enough.
Recently, both James Dickey and Briscoe Cain have talked about the importance of character from public officials but refuse to recognize their attempt to keep corruption in power in the Legislature.
Texans should watch two key items this week: the State of the State and Texas House committee assignments. I take some time to overview why both items are worth following.
Lastly, religious liberty just isn't enough. Ryan Anderson has articulated why this is, and we overview his recent op-ed today.
I hope you enjoy this week's episode.
Texas is truly at a crossroads, and the direction we take will have a dramatic effect on the entire world. Over the last eight years, our politicians' decision to largely stay on the sidelines of cultural battles was something they could get away with more easily than they'll be able to in 2021.
Today, my friends Michael Quinn Sullivan and Jon Francis join me as we discuss the current battlefield that Texas finds itself in and what decisions we have to make to ensure that our freedoms are still enjoyed for years to come.
We discuss the difference between Govs. Greg Abbott and Ron DeSantis and how their actions will affect which state leads our nation against the attempted leftist takeover.
Whether we want to admit it or not, the left is trying to destroy anyone in the center or right of center in this country. That fact cannot be disputed. Unfortunately, those leftists have a significant amount of influence within the Democrat Party, as well as all other major societal institutions.
So, what do we do?
Well, you will have to listen in on the conversation to find out.
We do take some time to discuss what citizens can specifically consider doing as they decide how best to engage in the battle.
I hope you enjoy the conversation.
