This is the season 1 finale! Thanks for all of your support for season 1 of Murder on the Map! New episodes will be back on January 4!

Episode description: Christmas is supposed to be about spending time with family, eating too much turkey and getting some much needed time off work. Unfortunately, crime is a 365 days a year kind of thing with no exceptions for major holidays. Murder is tragic no matter when it happens, but when it’s on Christmas, it makes it just that much harder for the loved ones of the victims to cope, like in the case of these notorious crimes that are basically the opposite of the holiday spirit.

The holiday season kicks off this Thursday, when uncles and cousins and college-student children will travel cross country and gather around tables, where they’ll offer thanks for the thing they appreciate most: their love for one another.

That’s one version, anyway.

For some, though, the holidays can be considerably more grim- like for the people who are mentioned in this podcast. Although it’s widely believed that rates of domestic violence spike during the holidays, the available research shows that assumption to be limited and inconclusive. However, it may be that when gruesome crimes do occur during the holidays, they get more widespread media coverage since they’re so out of the norm of what we’d expect during such celebratory times.

On this episode, I'll take you through 5 true crimes that all happened throughout the states on Thanksgiving Day

Halloween crimes are usually thought of as the thoughtless mayhem of demented strangers who enjoy poisoning candy or putting razor blades in apples. But crimes committed on Halloween are much more serious - and more real - than those urban legends. There have been numerous murders, kidnappings, and assaults that have taken place on October 31, and many are directly related to the festivities of the holiday. While it remains debatable as to whether or not there's a spike in crime on Halloween, there's no debate that all that these particular assaults happened in connection with the holiday.

On this episode, I'll tell you about 13 true crimes that have happened on Halloween.

On September 23, 1992, 23 year old college student Dail Dinwiddie attended a U2 concert with her friends in Columbia, South Carolina. After the concert ended at around 11:15PM, Dail and her friends headed to the Five Points’ area of Columbia and went to Jungle Jim’s, a popular nightclub at the time. After being separated from Dail, her friends left at approximately 1:00AM on September 24th. They told authorities they thought she had found another ride home or called her parents to pick her up.

This, however, was not the case; Dail was still in the nightclub. Around 15 minutes after her friends had left, she asked the bouncer at Jungle Jim’s if he had seen them. At 1:30AM after chatting with the bouncer for a while, Dail walked north on Harden Street wearing a forest green pullover, faded jeans and a blue L.L. Bean jacket tied around her waist.

Dail has never been seen or heard from since.

On August 3rd, 2020, 27-year-old Michael Bryson, stopped at his parent’s house in Harrisburg, Oregon. He informed them he would be going up to a week long party/camping trip with some friends at Hobo Campground near Dorena, Oregon. They didn’t realize that they would be speaking to their son for the last time.

Reports state that Michael was at the renagade on Monday and Tuesday. If you’re like me and didn’t know what a renegade is, it’s basically a rave with no insurance and is held off the beaten path so drugs can be freely passed around with no police involvement. By very early Wednesday morning, Michael Bryson had disappeared.

Detective Richard Smith of The Lane County Sheriff’s Office states that at around 4 am that Wednesday, Michael wandered away from his group of friends in an unknown direction. Left behind was his camping gear, his phone powered off, and he has not accessed his bank account since.

I got to talk to Michael’s parents, Parrish and Tina Bryson by phone this week. They were incredibly gracious and while talking to them, you can feel the emotions they’re going through, but also their resilence. Give that they’re in Oregon, our interview was conducted by phone, so the audio can get a little fuzzy in spots, but I tried cleaning it up the best I could. Now, here’s the interview.

A.J. Breaux had lived in Houma, Louisiana, his entire life, raised three daughters, and worked in the same clothing store for more than three decades. For years, A.J. had also battled a drinking problem, which led to an arrest for drunk driving. But A.J. seemed to have conquered his demons and had been sober for eight years

Almost every evening, he could be found at The Easy Does It Club, a support group for people with drinking problems. According to his daughter, Melissa Tardo, A.J. prided himself on being available at any hour of the day or night to assist those in need.

On August 28, 1991, AJ left a meeting of the Easy Does It Club and has never been heard from again.

On today’s episode, we go through the sightings of AJ since his disappearance, and discuss the hope his daughters still hold almost 30 years later.

When 19-year-old Jade Williams’ dad was away working on a fishing boat and her grandmother was out of town in August 2017, she used it as an excuse to throw a party at her home in Kake, Alaska with some of her friends, sort of a belated birthday party as she had turned 19 only three days previously. By 9:30 that night, the neighbors were calling Alaska State Troopers because Williams was unresponsive.

On this episode, I also talk about the staggering number of missing and murdered Native Women throughout the US. You can find resources for this episode below.
