Maine Road Ramble is a Manchester City focused podcast originally created by Kevin Nelson and Ger Deegan, who met while writing for SB Nation a few years back. In it's present state, the Maine Road Ramble team is made up of Kevin, Ger alongside Andrew Dettmer, Jon Ashley and Joe Ricci.

The podcast structure is quite loose and conversational with the banter ranging across all aspects of the game, including tactics, analytics, match recaps, and much more. Thanks to the size of our team, we also provide a couple of specialized series, such as transfer targets, legal ramifications, etc.

Manchester City's incredible season came to a disappointing end, losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the Champions League final. We've had a few days to reflect on the defeat and have reluctantly returned to the microphone to diagnose what went wrong for City. There's no definitive conclusion and we discuss a confluence of factors that contributed to the result, ranging from lineup decisions to tactics and simply, Chelsea being a really good team.

The Maine Road Ramble and Manc and a Yank Podcast teamed up for a crossover that spans across all eras of Manchester City, drafting a starting eleven from the all-time greats in the club's history!

Kevin Nelson and Andrew Dettmer are joined by Jon Ashley and Joe Ricci to compile the best lineups imaginable, with the picks ranging from Eric Brook all the way to Gabriel Jesus.

The rules are simple. In a snake draft format, select eleven players that can reasonably play a position based on their experience in a reasonable formation (no 1-1-8's allowed!). The draft picks are being evaluated on their best sustained version while playing for City, so picking Frank Lampard does not get you the peak Chelsea years. Finally, each selection must have played at least 10 first team senior matches with the club.

Simple enough, right? Yet it was actually more of a difficult exercise than we all thought trying to rank the litany of City legends while maneuvering around the plans and stolen picks of our competitors. Ultimately, this was an incredibly fun episode to prepare for and record, but YOU will be the ultimate decider for who among us drafted the greatest team. It's safe to say that City have a checkered history when it comes to the investments they've made. Some of their moves have proven to be genius while others have turned out, well, nightmarish. Kevin and Andrew return with an eye towards the future as Manchester City legend Sergio Aguero approaches the end of his contract in the summer of 2021. Mystery still surrounds his next move but many expect that his time in a City shirt will end after next season, leading to the only conclusion that the club will be investing in a new center forward either this summer or next.

Replacing an all-time legend is not an easy task but someday has to do it and we start by discussing whether Gabriel Jesus has what it takes to take over the reigns as the primary central forward. Though we are confident in the young Brazilian, we also pinpointed a few high end targets in the transfer market in case the club is not confident in Jesus being the 1A option.

We break down these three elite strikers: * Lautaro Martinez * Timo Werner * Erling Haaland

down in every aspect, from style of play to their underlying analytics. It would take a heavy investment to get any of these guys' signature, but it may be what it takes with how large a void Aguero will leave in his wake.

This is the first of two transfer-focused shows that will explore the striker market. While this focuses on players who can come in and start right away, the next one (which should be released in about a month's time) will pinpoint smaller names who could serve as backups if Jesus gets the key to the car upon Aguero's departure.

With the expected departure of Leroy Sane, Manchester City will have to bring in a winger to back up Raheem Sterling and join the attacking rotation. If you are unfamiliar with this Transfer Wish List series, it is essentially a thought exercise on what we would do if we were in charge of the club. The matches are coming thick and fast for Manchester City as we're in the midst of one of the busiest stretches of the year. Kevin and Ger get started by looking back on two consecutive Premier Leagues against West Ham and Leicester City.

Analyzing the West Ham match didn't require much of the guys' time considering how easily the Blues handled the opposition but they do touch on a couple of tactical wrinkles that propelled them to victory. Upon transitioning to our Leicester breakdown, Kevin shares some concerns at the current state of the left side of the defense that Ger couldn't help but scoff at.

Those concerns naturally blend into our Real Madrid preview as City travel to the Champions League specialists on the midweek. Even without Eden Hazard, Zidane's team will be the toughest task City have faced in this competition but that's what makes this matchup all the more exciting.

The Maine Road Ramble is back and Ger and Kevin are back together again after three weeks apart! It was a weird week for the lads to return to as the Blues survived in both the FA and League Cups, though we're not sure how inspired we were by those performances. We start in chronological order with the Fulham match (02:15) but don't spend too much time here since the circumstances of the match prevent us from drawing any real conclusions.

The main event of City's week was the second leg of the derby matchup with United (10:40) and this is where we focus most of our time on this episode. City move on but lose the home leg and the guys share their concerns from the match. Last but not least, we preview Tottenham on the weekend (38:00) and get the delightful chance to discuss our favorite manager again, Jose Mourinho. The Maine Road Ramble returns this week with only one of its members as Kevin does his best to go solo for a short episode. This series will not deal in peddling rumors but will take a more analytical view of the roster construction for the club. The long term view of this series will be to identify prospective City players, not due to an unfounded rumor but because they'd be a good fit, and provide detailed scouting reports on those individuals.

This specific episode doesn't focus on any individual players yet, but we reflect upon the state of City's roster and do a breakdown of future movement we might by position group. An urgent rush to get Kevin and Ger on the phone resulted in the technical difficulties but the podcast persevered nevertheless. But the good results don't mean the guys don't have their fair share of concerns (because that's always the case) to go along with the well deserved hype the team has earned. The Maine Road Ramble is back for another edition, though this one is far less optimistic than we would hope! The lads start with a review of the Chelsea match, which wasn't the most encouraging affair, and immediately follow it up with a far less promising review of the Shakhtar match in the Champions League campaign. All in all, what is normally a optimistic podcast sounds quite far from that after these past two matches, luckily the Newcastle match on the weekend would appear to be the perfect antidote for the problems City are currently facing. Overall, not a disastrous week, but far from one that would inspire confidence so here's shakhoping that we're being overly dramatic like we are want to do.
