Jesus is the most powerful and influential figure in all human history. He was sent by the Father and given an assignment to carry out during His stay on earth. According to Him, His work was completed and now He is glorified with the glory He had before the world was. But why did Jesus come into the earth?
Christmas Eve is a night when people of like precious faith gather together, and it helps us focus on the true meaning of Christmas. No other person has entered our world that defines and divides human history as Jesus. Tonight, over a billion people will stop at the wonder of Jesus Christ, Emmanuel or God with us.
The birth of Christ was one of the greatest miracles that has ever occurred. The God of creation set aside His glory and took on flesh in order to redeem man from his fallen state and make it possible for him to be reconciled to God and become His child. Before we can fully understand and appreciate the incarnation, we must understand the nature and dimensions of man, the nature and consequences of his sin, and why an incarnation was necessary.
While on earth Jesus demonstrated spiritual laws the human race knows little of. He spoke and the wind, waves and sea obeyed His command. He turned water into wine, multiplied food, walked on water, brought money from the mouth of fish, healed the sick, cast out devils and even raised a decaying body from the dead. Apparently Jesus had understanding of spiritual laws that man didn’t know existed. Could it be He simply exercised the dominion God gave Adam in the garden? It’s obvious there are spiritual laws that are as binding as any natural law in God’s universe.
There are three important words that we all have to deal with in life. Besides knowing them, it’s important to have them in their proper order. The words are feelings, faith and facts. Doubting Thomas got his name because he put feelings first, then faith and facts. The proper order is facts, faith, feelings.
Knowing the reality of God’s love for us personally will take our faith to a higher level. It’s easier to trust someone when we know they love us. Jesus reveals God’s love for His children being greater than earthly parents that love their children. When we understand this, our faith in God’s willingness to keep His promises will increase. The question is how do we determine how much God loves us? Is it based on our experiences in life, or is something else the determining factor?
No one is exempt from the storms of life. Three reasons why include: We live in a fallen world, we have an enemy who wants to destroy us, and we all have flesh to contend with. Jesus warned Peter about the weakness of the flesh and Satan’s game plan, but Peter didn’t take heed. Because he was a student and not a victim, he learned from his mistake and offers Godly counsel to anyone challenged by the storms of life.
The bible has much to say about different levels of faith. It speaks of no, little, great and perfect faith. It also speaks of shipwrecked and wavering faith. What produces the highest level of faith? Knowing the reality of the integrity of God’s Word, our redemption in Christ, being a New Creation, our righteousness in Christ, God’s indwelling presence, God’s love for us– Birth and adoption, and the authority of Jesus’ name.
A true disciple is one who studies the life of his master purposing to follow his example and emulate his life. One of the most outstanding characteristics Jesus modeled for us was a thankful heart. Close observation reveals the connection between being thankful and the miraculous, and the spiritual with the material.
The sacrifice of praise plays a vital role in a believer’s life. It’s so important, we’re told to offer it continually. The actual sacrifice is clearly stated, “the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name.” Receive an understanding of how our sacrifice of Praise honors God and what that does and means for the believer.
Hebrews 11 describes and defines faith according to the Word where we are given as examples those who lived by faith. Receive an understanding in this fifth series of what living by faith means.
1 Peter 4:10 tells us that we all have motivational gifts that are to be used to help people and glorify God. Whatever our gift is, we are to be a good steward of it. Receive an understanding in this fourth series of discovering our gift through giving and administration.
Receive an understanding of living by faith in this fourth series about living and standing in faith and how to use our faith to withstand the subtlety’s that Satan uses to draw us away from our faith in God.
Continuing this study on discovering our gift, we examine the gift of exhortation. Though many misuse this gift by criticizing or judging others, God directs us to keep His love as the motivating force to teach, counsel, or disciple someone. Discover more about exhorting others in the body of Christ in today’s teaching.
God’s will has been established. He wants us whole and sent Jesus to make us whole. We must be determined, and we must become tired of sitting around the pool and watching others step in before us. It’s time to rise up and let God arise in us and allow His arise in us and allow His omnipotence to conquer whatever has crippled our lives.
Paul revealed God’s work to be a work of faith with power. God’s power can be present but inactive. Faith can be present but lie dormant. It’s when faith and power connect with each other that amazing things happen. Receives an understanding of living by faith.
Romans 12:4-9 tells us about the seven motivational gifts that are to be used to benefit people and glorify God. They deal with our personalities and provide the motivating force that drives us. Receive an understanding of discovering our gifts.
Under the leadership of Moses, the Israelites failed to experience the blessings of the Promised Land. Not because the enemy was so powerful, but because of their unbelief. In Hebrews 3:17 – 4:2, the writer warns us about the dangers of unbelief. Receive an understanding of living by faith.
There are three categories of gifts: Ministry, manifestation, and motivational gifts. Here, Paul lists seven motivational gifts: Prophecy, serving, teaching, exhorting, giving, administrating, and mercy or compassion. Whatever the gift, it’s a manifestation of the grace of God that is to be recognized and used to benefit people and glorify God.
There are four times where the scripture says, “The Just Shall Live By Faith.” Once we are saved by grace through faith, we are to use our faith to access grace that heals, delivers, protects, comforts, preserves, and provides. Faith is so important that the Bible records a Faith Hall of Fame and the many achievements made by those who lived by faith. Receive an understanding of how those in the Faith Hall of Fame lived by faith as an example for us.
Our emotions are a big part of who we are. We must not allow them to control our lives. It’s up to us to wean ourselves from them by addressing them with the Word of God. Receive an understanding of taming the soul.
Many believe the next event to occur in God’s plan for man is the rapture of the church. An event involving a two-fold operation that occurs in an atomic moment. First is the resurrection of the bodies of those who died in Christ. Second is the glorification and the translation of the living saints. This event will bring the time of the gentiles to a close and resume God’s dealings with the Jewish people. The impact will be global as multitudes will disappear in an instant.
In Psalms 46:10, God tells us to, “Be still and know that I am God…” So when we’re troubled, overwhelmed, or emotionally drained, we must learn to stand and wait upon Him. We must seek God’s face, which can include giving thanks and singing His praises. His Word always reminds us we don’t have to depend on our own stregnth, He offers us His.
We all live to please someone – self, others or God. As believers, we should live to please God. Receive an understanding of what pleases God and how we should always have a heart’s desire to live for Him.
Once saved, we receive eternal life. Our spirit is born again and receives the life and nature of God. This new birth transformation doesn’t change how we’ve been programmed to think. God gave us His Word to straighten out our thinking. Our greatest need after being saved is to have our minds renewed to the Word of God.
In order to have a strong spiritual foundation, we must know the Word and act on the Word before the storms come. We follow the example of Peter by acting on the Word even if it’s illogical. Peter went from casting down a net, to walking on water, to raising the dead. The foundation involves being strong in the Lord, not in our own strength.
Scripture tells us Jesus spent time in prayer often. Scripture doesn’t always tell us what He prayed. In JOHN 17, the Apostle records one of the most personal prayers Jesus prayed. This chapter gives us the opportunity to observe Jesus in prayer at the most critical time of His life.
Before ascending on high and taking His place at the right hand of God, Jesus instituted two ordinances that were to be observed throughout the church age – Holy Communion, and Water Baptism. Communion shows forth Christ’s death until He comes. Baptism identifies believers with the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ and serves as an outward declaration of an inward work of grace.
In the continuing series on prayer, we study Paul’s prayer for the Colossians. The church was under attack on many fronts and Paul prayed for things that truly mattered. He prayed for what the people needed most – spiritual wisdom and understanding in the knowledge of Christ, and spiritual strength, patience, and endurance. He knew these things were needed for them to finish their course with joy.
In order for any church to succeed in fulfilling its purpose for being, maintaining unity is essential. Promoting unity is walking worthy of our calling along with being humble, submissive, patient and forbearing. Receive an understanding of the importance of unity and what promotes unity.
Praying in the Spirit is powerful and effective. Romans 8:26-27 lets us know our understanding of what to pray for is limited, but the Spirit has perfect knowledge of what needs to be done. Receive an understanding of what it means to pray, “In the Spirit.”
Nothing is more important than where people spend eternity. Do we care enough for the souls of others? Do we care where they will spend their eternity? Do we care enough to invest time,effort and energy in looking beyond the exterior of people to reach their soul for Christ? Paul became all things to all men to lead some to Christ.
God blesses all of us with all spiritual blessings. It is through Christ that He causes us to always succeed. He has made His power available to every one of us and has given us authority over all evil. Receive an understanding as we study the prayer of Jabez in 1 Chronicles 4:9-10.
The church is to put Christ first, to be word based, Spirit-filled, holy, pure, a praying, praising, soul winning church that’s not satisfied with the status quo. Receive an understanding of how to be the Church Christ Built.
Receive an understanding of prayer as we study how Paul, Silas, and Jehoshaphat prayed when facing life-threatening challenges.
Before returning to Heaven Jesus said He would build a church the gates of hell would not prevail against. What does that church look like? What are its characteristics? Receive an understanding of The Church Christ Built.
By studying the prayers of others, we can learn how to pray more effectively and what to pray for. In Paul’s first prayer, he prayed for enlightenment. In his second prayer, he prayed for divine empowerment. In this lesson, we’ll study his second Ephesians’ prayer.
God wants us to see ourselves as He sees us in Christ–not as someone with an inferior self-image bound by a sense of insecurity, but as more than conquerors who know God is for us and will help us overcome any challenge life brings our way.
In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul practiced prayer because he understood the place and power of prayer in a believer’s life. Being joyful, prayerful and thankful was his recipe for success. We too can pray for our Spiritual eyes to be enlightened so we can increase our understanding of all that we have in Christ. Receive an understanding of what is to know God, His calling, His riches and power because eternal life is about knowing God and Jesus intimately.
God is a faith God. It’s impossible to please Him or overcome the challenges life brings our way without faith. For these and many more reasons, we must examine our lives to be sure we’re living with our Faith Swagger on.
God needs us to join forces together with Him in prayer in order to accomplish His purposes on earth. In continuing with the different angles of prayer, receive an understanding of the need for us to not only be in constant prayer but to be correct in our prayerful lives.
A man’s life is not measured by the duration of his life, but by the donation of his life and investments he makes. Jesus lived only 33 years, but the donation He made stands alone. His donation is represented in the Lord’s Supper and touches all three tenses of human life. As we celebrate this supper, we consider His donation and what our response should be.
In 1 John 5:14-15, The Apostle John emphasizes the importance of praying according to God’s will. Knowing God’s will gives us confidence, not knowing God’s will produces a lack of confidence that God heard us. To be more effective in prayer, how we pray and what we pray should be based on biblical insight.
Paul states the purpose of the ministry gifts is to promote spiritual growth among believers. We are to grow up into Christ in all things and to do the work we’ve been called to do. This should be our highest goal in life.
There are different kinds of prayer. Jesus taught Paul the importance of the prayer of worship and praise. Paul taught it and Paul lived it. When imprisoned, praise produced power which produced results. Receive an understanding of the Prayer of Praise and Worship.
Freedom is the power to act, think and speak without hindrance or restraint. As wonderful as freedom is, freedom must have boundaries. If not, it can be abused and lead to anarchy. Who then establishes the boundaries?
Receive an understanding of what happens when we as God’s people fast and pray for the right reasons; what those right reasons are and how fasting prayer achieves great things for us.
There are many important “IF’S” in scripture. “If” implies a condition to meet. The Israelites were told “if” they hearkened, they would be blessed. But, “If” they hearkened not, curses would come upon them. The “if” implies responsibilities. Receive an understanding of what the scripture teaches regarding “if” we faint not.
Intercession is prayer on behalf of another. When someone walks away from God there exists a gap between that individual and God. Because of the gap, God has difficulty reaching that person. The person is not reaching out to God. Someone is needed to stand in the gap and fill up the hedge. Receive an understanding of what the prayer of Intercession does when standing in the gap for another person.
No Father is perfect, only God. Most fathers work hard to give their children a better life. Prize your father highly, obey his authority and care for him enough to bring honor to his name. Receive an understanding of why and how God says we should honor our fathers.
In Matthew 6:9-13, Jesus gives us a prayer that we should model–the Lord’s Prayer. Receive an understanding of what the scripture teaches us about the Lord’s Prayer.
Under the new covenant, Jesus has provided a better way for us to exercise our faith. All we have to do is believe and speak. In 2 Corinthians 4:13, Paul is saying that speaking is putting action to our faith. Jesus made grace available and we are to believe in His finished work and access grace by confessing our faith. In Mattew 17:20, Jesus said the same principle will move mountains. Mountains are obstacles, issues, problems, challenges or anything that opposes God’s will for our lives. The Red Sea, Goliath, Jericho’s walls and warriors were mountains that needed removed.
Prayer is part of our Christian armor. There are different kinds of prayer. Hebrews 4:16, lets us know that we’ve all been invited to enter God’s holiest presence. 1 John 5:14-15, tells us how God has promised to hear and answer us when we pray according to His will. And James 5:16, reminds us how through prayer, we generate power to accomplish God’s purposes. Receive an understanding of the power of prayer.
The choices we make greatly affect our lives. Adam chose to disobey God and his whole world was affected. Cain chose to kill his brother and lived under a curse. Moses chose to serve God and led God’s people out of Egypt. We are the sum total of our decisions. We make decisions and our decisions make us!
The healing of a man taken with palsy reveals to us the importance faith plays in activating the power of God to accomplish His purposes on earth. The power can be present to do great things, but, unless faith activates the power, nothing will happen. Prayer is a means whereby we join forces with God to accomplish His purposes on earth. Faith makes prayer work. To have faith, we must discover what the Word teaches on prayer. Receive an understanding of the different kinds of prayers and the steps we must follow to make prayer work in our lives.
When Jesus returns in the clouds with a shout, even the dead will hear. In context, with a loud voice, we are to stand against sin and promote righteousness. With a loud voice, we are to declare our faith. God hasn’t changed and neither has His program. We have more to shout about than what they had under the Old Covenant Receive an understanding of the reasons we have to shout.
God’s Word teaches us that men should always pray. Paul said to pray without ceasing, or to stretch out to seek God constantly in prayer. Why? If God loves us and controls everything that happens, why must people pray?
As we study the Gospels and book of Acts, we discover there is a work of the Spirit that goes beyond salvation. Jesus said salvation is a well of water, but being spirit- filled is rivers of living water flowing without. The purpose being to witness for Jesus.
We were sinners; we’ve been saved by grace, now we are God’s masterpiece, His greatest piece of work. God’s word helps us discover our new identity and explains who we are, what we have, and what we can do because of Christ.
The gifts of the Spirit are for today and everyone who follows love and desires them can expect to be used by the Spirit for the benefit of the church. Receive an understanding of the Gifts of Inspiration.
Giving mom candy and flowers is good, but giving obedience, respect, affection, and living righteous lives is better. Receive an understanding of the biblical perspective of what it means to honor mothers, how to honor mothers and what dishonoring your mother will produce.
We are to covet prophecy. Not to predict anyone’s future, but to speak to men that which edifies, exhorts and comforts. 1 Corinthians 14:4 states that through tongues, we edify self; but with prophecy, we edify the church. Receive an understanding of the gift of prophecy–what the gift is and the biblical examples that are given to us regarding prophecy.
Ephesians is a beautiful book with a powerful message. It tells us who we were before Christ, what God did for us in Christ, who we are in Christ, and what God expects us to do for Him now that we’ve been saved. Ephesians 2:10 tells us , “For we are God’s Masterpiece. He created us anew in Christ Jesus so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.” Receive an understanding of how we are God’s greatest piece of work.

Jesus’ ministry on earth was threefold–preaching, teaching, and healing. He taught and preached like no one they ever heard and he healed more people than any other prophet they knew. The world couldn’t hold the books it would take to contain all the miracles He performed. But, the healings that are recorded in detail were specifically chosen by the Holy Spirit to help our faith and valuable lessons are to be learned when we study these healings. Receive an understanding of the lessons we learn from the healings that are recorded for our benefit.

There is only one way to Heaven. The gospel is not an exclusively New Testament message. From Genesis 3:15 and throughout the Old Testament God promised a Messiah who would “save His people from their sins.” As it tells us in Acts 4:11-12 – There is no other way to Heaven.
The working of the Spirit is powerful, penetrating, transforming and dynamic. On the Day of Pentecost, one gift cut through years of religious tradition that resulted in 3,000 getting saved. They spoke in tongues, Peter preached with penetrating power and 3,000 were added. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11, informs us of how the Holy Spirit gives gifts to each individually as He chooses for the common good. Receive an understanding of the gifts of the word of knowledge, the word of wisdom, and the discerning of Spirits.
In Christianity we believe there is only one way to Heaven. Christianity is not a religion, it’s a relationship. Religion is a set of rules and rituals that claim to get a person in a right relationship with God. Christianity is God getting a man in a right relationship with Himself through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the only way to reconcile God and man–and this pertains to both Jews and Gentiles.
Jesus said those who believe in Him would speak in tongues. Tongues is a spiritual gift available for all believers to receive. Tongues is inspired utterance that opens the door to the supernatural and positions us to experience other spiritual gifts. There’s no reason to be afraid of getting a wrong spirit because Jesus guarantees we won’t!
A coronation ceremony took place before Jesus was seated on high. Coronation means the crowning of a sovereign. Why? Because Jesus set aside His Glory to become a man and redeem us from the fall. In response to the request, the Father crowned Him as King of Kings and restored to Him the Glory He had before the world was. He gave Him a Name recognized in all three realms as being the Name Above All Names.
The Fruit of the Spirit is for character. The Holy Spirit within, if allowed, will influence our conduct, speech and behavior. The Baptism of the Spirit is for power or divine enablement. There is an impartation of power that goes beyond human scope. When filled with the Spirit, one can and should speak in tongues.
The resurrection of Jesus has turned the world upside down. It impacted nature, how we measure time, the world of religion, politics and culture. What impact has it had on your world? How has it impacted you personally? Has it impacted your conduct, character, speech and behavior? Has it done to you what it did to those we talked about? Have you become a witness for the one whose death, burial and resurrection made it possible for you to escape eternal punishment and live eternally in His eternal Kingdom? The memorial has no power to change us without us intentionally applying it to our personal lives.
What did Jesus mean when He said, “It Is Finished!”? He meant that all the prophecies leading up to His death were fulfilled. Jesus still had to be buried, raised from the dead, and offer His Blood as the High Priest of the New Covenant. Receive and understanding of what He meant and what more had to be finished to obtained eternal redemption for all mankind.
The final week of Jesus’ earthly ministry begins. They heard Him preach and teach, saw Him perform miracles, heal the sick, cast out devils, raise Lazarus and drive out the money changers. As He enters the Holy city, 2 million people line the streets laying their cloaks before Him shouting “Hosanna!” But, close examination reveals their love and commitment to be shallow. “Hosanna” soon became “crucify Him!” Receive an understanding of the 4 P’s of Palm Sunday–the parallels, the perceptions, the praise, the problem.
Our worst enemy is not the devil, or world, but the flesh. Jesus said the flesh is weak, but, by walking in the Spirit we can overcome the works of the flesh. I COR. 14:1– Reveals the pattern to follow if we want spiritual manifestations. The nine graces of the Spirit can be divided into three groups. The God-ward- love, joy and peace. The man-ward – longsuffering, gentleness and goodness. The us-ward –faithfulness, meekness and temperance.
We follow Jesus on His terms, not ours. His terms include self denial, cross bearing and loyal obedience. It includes continuing in the Word, loving the brethren and bearing fruit. It means Jesus comes first, and we are willing to suffer persecution for our faith and forsake all if called upon to do so.
In order to be effective in prayer, we need the Holy Spirit, who helps us pray beyond our ability in order to accomplish God’s perfect will. When we are under the influence of God’s Spirit, He guides us in our daily walk; He quickens and gives life to our mortal bodies; and we perfectly worship God because we are not limited by our natural resources.
Christ denied Himself to take up His cross and follow the Father’s redemptive plan to save mankind. Love motivated Christ to do what He did. To be a true disciple, we too must deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow the example of Jesus and love should be our motivation as well. What does it mean to follow Christ? It means supreme love, supreme loyalty and supreme loss. The benefits far outweigh the sacrifice–eternal life, His presence, power, peace, promises, provision, protection, eternal glory, and heavenly home.
There is no amount of human wisdom that is sufficient to accomplish the work of God on earth. It takes the Spirit of God to accomplish God’s will in human lives. He empowers us to live fruitful lives in service to God. Receive an understanding of the Holy Spirit.
In 1 Peter 2:24, it states that Jesus personally carried our sins in His body on the cross so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness. For it is by His wounds, we who believe, have been healed. Because there is so much we don’t know, we must continue in the Word and invite the Holy Spirit to guide us into all the truth that liberates us in every area of our lives.
Redemption is the work of the entire Godhead. The Father planned it, Jesus worked it, and the Spirit reveals it and makes it a reality. Because this is the Spirit’s dispensation, it’s important we understand, and appreciate His Ministry. Receive an understanding of the Holy Spirit and how he works in us and through us.
We all are engaged in spiritual warfare. The devil is real, demons and evil spirits are real. They’re all real beings that hate us and seek to devour and destroy us. Knowing this, it’s essential to learn how they operate in order to protect ourselves against their attacks. Attacks aimed at our thinking and belief system, designed to establish strongholds in our lives.
In Matthew 4, Jesus’ shield of faith quenched the fiery darts of the wicked when He said, “It is written.” Our shield of faith is comprised of truth that comes from the word of God that we put in our hearts and mouths and speak them like Jesus did. Receive an understanding of how we must equip ourselves with the truth in order to pick up our shield of faith to quench Satan’s destructive schemes.
When Jesus taught the law and prayer of faith, He revealed to every believer his or her potential to participate in demonstrating power that goes beyond human scope. Calling things that are not as though they were is operating in genuine biblical faith. Through faith ordinary individuals did extraordinary things. What will we do?
We all have a choice to make. We can yield our tongue to our three major enemies– the devil, world, and flesh or we can yield our tongue to speak God’s Word. Before choosing, remember PR. 18:20-21 –We all will eat the fruit of our speech! Our confession of faith is rooted in what God said. Because He said it, we agree with it, and hold fast to it until it materializes!
There is a difference between calling things which be not as though they are and calling things that are as though they are not. God wants us to put His Words in our mouths and set in motion the cycle of spiritual events that lead to life. It lets us know in 2 Corinthians 4:18, calling things that be not as though they were involves looking at what is not seen and exalting it above what is seen. Receive an understanding of this often misunderstood biblical principles.
Our confession must be rooted in what God says as what we confess will be challenged. If we waiver, our faith can fail to produce results. But if we stay the course, we will reap our harvest. We must fill our hearts with the Word, confess it day and night, and trust God for the Harvest. Receive an understanding of our confession of Faith.
Humbling ourselves before God is our responsibility. God has chosen Fasting as a means to do this and its primary purpose is to overcome pride. God detests pride as it is destructive to man. Receive an understanding of humbling ourselves before God.
As we confess our allegiance to Christ, we are to be His loyal followers. Our confessions are based on a deep conviction of facts. God wants our lips to speak right things. In other words, what we say must be rooted in what God has said. Receive an understanding of confessions of Faith.
Without a proper understanding of confession, we can give place to foolishness and presumption. Our confession touches every part of our lives. God is pleased when we speak right things.
Going through life, we all will be challenged in our decision making. We can decide to go with God despite the cost, or we can compromise or accept a standard that is lower than what God desires. Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego are names of four Hebrew boys whose lives reveal that in the most trying circumstances, we need not compromise.
“Sticks and stones…., but words will never hurt me” is a saying dating back to the 1800’s. The saying is intended to make children being talked about by other children feel better about themselves. The truth is that words are powerful and today kids are killing themselves or their classmates all because of the power of words.
