Chris and Kyle had the idea to start Malty Goodness at a New Year's Eve party. What was a drunken idea at the time, turned into a podcast!
Chris and Kyle became friends very quickly when they found both had a love for craft beer. Chris being from Georgia, who's craft beer industry is booming and Kyle being from Wisconsin, the mecca of beer drinking culture. The pairing seemed perfect to chat about craft beer on a weekly basis.
Chris and Kyle end the season by taking a trip Peachtree Corners to chat with Preston Smelt, Co-Founder and Head Brewer at Anderby Brewing. They chat about how they got started, how Anderby got it’s name, brewing techniques, beer trends, and of course sample some of their beers.
Seems like the long hot days of summer creeping into Georgia are taking their toll on the fellas, as they’re just straight getting a little wild now. On this episode, Kyle and Chris dive into some wild and spontaneous suds that all too often may be confused with sour beers. They kick it off with a truly local and pleasantly tart brew from Monday Night Brewing, see what all that yeasty air in Belgium can do, and finish by indulging in a bottle that was procured about as far out (domestically speaking right?) as the guys could have hoped to travel during a worldwide pandemic. This week Chris and Kyle travel back to where Beers Around the World started, London. We open up a fancy bottle of Vintage Ale from Fuller’s Brewery from Chiswick in West London. This 5 year old ale is best aged, Fuller’s says up to 10 years! Get ready for this incredibly tasty British treat.
Chris and Kyle head up Nort' for another round of Wisconsin beers. This time they add two new breweries to the show and bring back an old favorite. They start with a Milkshake IPA from Barrel 41 Brewing Co, then take a break from the IPAs with a Cinnamon Molasses Brown Ale from Kyle's home town brewery, Fifth Ward Brewing, then finish the episode off with a beer brewed in honor of Wisconsin's three MVPs from Milwaukee Brewing Company.
When you think about coffee in a beer, you typically think stouts. This week Chris and Kyle pop open three coffee infused brews that are lighter than stouts. From a coffee infused lager, to an Italian dessert cream ale, all the way to a Holiday salty treat. Grab a coffee mug full of beer and listen to the guys get buzzed on some caffeinated brewskis.
Let’s get weird! On this episode, Kyle and Chris decided to take try a few flavors combinations that are definitely lesser seen on the market these days. They start out with a corn lager collaboration straight out of Asheville, indulge on a sour cherry and yuzu-infused homage to the Tokyo Olympic games from a familiar brewery to the podcast, and wrap up with a seriously decadent IPA featuring coconut from Southern Grist Brewing in Nashville, an overdue newcomer to the show.
Beer is best enjoyed with good company, and that's exactly what this episode is all about! One of Kyle's long-time friends (and avid show listener), Jesse, joins the guys on the show as they dive into the world of craft beer boxes and drinking endeavors of the past. While Chris may be stranded without proper glassware, that doesn't stop them from enjoying some suds and discussing all things subscription beer boxes. Headed your way from a brewery near you: a Florida brew that blew us away, a "quality" New Mexican hoppy delight, and an absolutely boss porter from Poland.
On this episode of Heavy Hitters, the guys sip on a serious and beastly brew that Chris was able to haul back from while in Chicago recently. Technically a Strong Ale, Orin gets it's power from the fact that it is a blended beer both in terms or malt bill and aging. A powerful trick seldom seen in the craft beer world, it creates a combination that is out of this world. Join us as we dive into the mastery that Half Acre Beer has put together!
On this episode Chris and Kyle are sampling some desserts! They pop open a Strawberry Milkshake IPA, cut into a S’mores Cheesecake Cream Ale, and end with a piece of Dulce De Leche Cake Stout. Sit back and listen as they consume a large amount of sugar so you don’t have to!
On this episode, Chris and Kyle take a trip around the world to Belgium and the Netherlands to sip the beer of the monks, Trappist Ale. Trappist Ales are brewed by monks to help support and maintain their monasteries. With only 12 monasteries in the world there is a small selection to sample. Chris and Kyle crack one open from Westmalle and one from Zundert.
This week, Kyle and Chris decide to keep it local in celebration of Georgia Beer Day by featuring three new breweries to the show. As the short days of Winter quickly get longer and sunnier, the guys sip on a dark Czech lager from Elsewhere, cruise up I-85 to Duluth's Good Wood for a hoppy take on a classic ale, and wrap up with a farewell to Winter nights with Toasty Marshmallow from Ironmonger.
On this special episode, Chris, Kyle, and the Guys over at Social Fox Brewing release their collaboration beer, a Bourbon Barrel Aged Wee Heavy called Oot Your Face. They also tap into a cask version that is S’mores flavor as well. Chris and Kyle chat with Craig Smith, head brewer at Social Fox, to talk about the process of brewing the beer, working together, the Wee Heavy style and much more!

Heavy Hitters returns! Chris and Kyle sip on a a Bourbon Barrel Aged English Barley Wine from Firestone Walker Brewing Company named Sucaba. This vintage 2019 brew is aged for a year in whiskey barrels and comes in at 11.3% making it high on the list of heavy hitters. Do not sleep on this beer, if you see it, grab it!
Ya Der Hey! Kyle went back to Wisconsin over the holidays and brought back some goodies! On this episode, Chris and Kyle sample some dark nectar from da Nort’, stouts. They feature three new breweries on this episode as well! Grab a walleye sandwich and a basket of cheese curds for this Wisconsin episode!
Chris and Kyle are back for season 5! They kick off the season with a style that is easily overlooked and under-appreciated, Lagers. Lagers are typically brewed, fermented, and then stored in cold temperatures anywhere from two to six weeks. Chris and Kyle crack open three different sub-styles of lagers and chat about their clean crisp flavors.
For the season 4 finale, Chris and Kyle decided to go big with 12 different variations of the same beer, Black Is Beautiful. Black Is Beautiful is a collaborative effort to raise awareness for the injustices people of color face daily and to raise funds for police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged. Each brewery can pick a local charity to donate all or part of their proceeds to. Sit back and listen as Chris and Kyle try all 12 and discuss their causes and of course, the beer!
On this episode of Heavy Hitters Chris and Kyle celebrate a huge milestone, drinking our 200th unique beer on the show with Higher Math, a 17% Strong Ale from Dogfish Head Brewery. Chris also celebrates his 1000th unique check-in on Untappd.
Chris and Kyle go back to their original formatting with three different beers this week. They start with a brand new Georgia brewery, Firewater Brewing Company and their First Response Pale Ale. Then they crack open one from a new regional brewery, Columbia Craft Brewing Company and their Barrel-Aged Tradicional. Then round the episode out with another new Georgia brewery, NoFo Brew Co and their Get Well Boris.
Chris and Kyle travel to Lithuania without leaving their homes on this episode of Beers Around the World. They pop a BIG boy of Zhigulevskoe Extra from Rinkuškiai. They also discuss some of Lithuania’s history and interesting beer styles such as a Stone beer and a Raw Ale.

Then we head to the Southeast with one from Idyll Hounds Brewing Company. Finally we end the episode with a brand new Georgia brewery, Anderby Brewing.

Holy Unicorn Batman! Chris and Kyle bust out a new segment they like to call Unicorn Beers. Unicorn beers are beers that are super unique or hard to find. This week they pop one large bottle of Pliny the Elder from Russian River Brewing Company. Just remember Unicorns do exist, you just have to look for them!
This week the guys crack open some heavily complex stouts all from Georgia breweries. We start off with a Moonlight Drive along the South American coast. Then we take a right on the blonde side with White Queen. Then cap the episode off with one Smokey Bear!

Aaron previously worked at Monday Night Brewing as their Digital/Social Media Marketing Manager, Brand Coordinator, then went into Beer Consulting under his own company Crafted Consulting and now is the Marketing Director for Hop City Craft Beer and Wine.
