Welcome to my conversation with Susan Bauer-Wu, PhD - Author & President of the Mind & Life Institute, co-founded by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1987. We talk about her latest book: "A FUTURE WE CAN LOVE: How We Can Reverse the Climate Crisis through the Power of Our Hearts and Minds“ which was inspired by a Mind & Life conversation between the Dalai Lama and Greta Thunberg. In our conversation, Susan shares ideas about how each of us can make a difference to get our only habitat - Planet Earth - back on track and away from the pre-cyclical phenomenon of the current "climate feedback loops". Science predicts that by 2050 we'll have between 200m and 1bn climate refugees worldwide. We also touch on the human feedback loops that Buddhists call the "Three Poisons": DELUSION, CRAVING and DISLIKING. The key to changing the future of our climate is 1. knowledge, 2. capacity, 3. willingness and 4. Action. We all have the power to avoid climate catastrophe IF we act NOW! Welcome to my interview with Author, Podcaster & Speaker Susan Burrell.
In her own words: "Mostly, I love supporting women in their inner growth toward finding their true empowerment. I get so much joy watching a woman unfold from her broken ideas of who she thinks she is and blossom into the beautiful and powerful being she was meant to be.
I teach what I have personally learned and navigated in my life. I have learned how to be with my dark side and to weed out the junk (thoughts & beliefs) that harms or no longer serves me. I have lived it. I have rediscovered myself after feeling that my heart and my life were shattered beyond repair, only to realize my true self - the one I was meant to be was hidden under the rubble and shards of a seemingly “broken” life."

Welcome to my interview with Leslie Ann ‘LAM’ Miller, Co-Founder and CEO of Girl Friday Productions:
"A significant mistake authors commonly make is to think of marketing as something that happens after their book is written. A good writer keeps that “ideal reader” at the heart of their work. This awareness of the marketplace doesn’t cheapen the act of writing; rather, it does readers a favor by tailoring your message and increasing the chance you’ll effect the change you want to make as an author. Writing is a creative process; publishing is a business.

Kate Eckman, accomplished entrepreneur, elite athlete, mindfulness expert, and Columbia University-certified executive coach, used to be like a lot of people. On the surface, she was a successful, high-level performer. But deep down, her life was full of less-tangible roadblocks — excess mental and emotional weight, deep-seated insecurity, self-judgment, and overwhelming stress and anxiety. In her book, ‘The Full Spirit Workout’, Kate shares the inner fitness regimen she used in her own life to generate a sense of self-worth and contentment from within. Rooted in neuroscience, positive psychology, and whole-person coaching techniques, her results-driven plan focuses on building spiritual and emotional muscles to feel confident and complete — regardless of others’ expectations, approval, or criticism. The spiritual fitness principles and daily exercises that Kate offers in The Full Spirit Workout are the same ones she uses in her coaching practice with business leaders and professional athletes. Based on rigorous research and multifaceted training, her regimen demands a genuine commitment to change. But it’s far from grueling, since Kate blends in creativity, flexibility, and delight so that each “rep” feels less like work and more like play.

Welcome to my conversation with Noor Sugrue, founder of Vintro. This is what we bring to your table:
00:00 - What is Vintro?
07:52 - The Business Model
11:14 - How Does Vintro Work?
16:56 - What Entrepreneurs Need
23:31 - Deal Flow & Technology
32:48 - Mentors, Supporters & Success
37:52 - Key Lessons
About Noor Sugrue & Vintro in her own words:
It's 2017. I am sitting in my aunt's living room over the holidays, watching Shark Tank with my family. While we were all fixated on the amazing entrepreneurs we were seeing on TV, I started thinking about the entrepreneurs that didn't make it onto the show. Great ideas are born every day, from people who come from all over the world and from all walks of life, yet every day these amazing ideas die because their creators struggled to find the necessary backing.Historically, people who control resources have limited time, so they shut themselves off from people who aren’t in their immediate network. This makes getting in front of people who can back you incredibly time-consuming, beyond difficult, and wildly expensive.I started thinking about ways to use technology to break down barriers between people with powerful ideas, and the people who can help bring their ideas to life. Vintro was my solution. It's about leveling the playing field and providing equal opportunity for everyone. Our goal is to help you craft the future by eliminating unnecessary barriers to valuable resources.

Also, enjoy part one of our conversation here on the platform, too.
About Smiling Gecko: Traditional NGOs tend to focus on a single topic (e.g. the construction of wells, the running of orphanages, medical aid, etc.) that they then roll out at various locations with similar needs. While this approach often brings tangible short-term improvements to people in the project area, it does not solve the underlying problems. Smiling Gecko has adopted a holistic approach aimed at improving the quality of life of an entire community through cluster projects. This vision guided the organization from its very start in 2014, and Smiling Gecko has since created many jobs and apprenticeships in agriculture, tourism and the catering industry, crafts, trade and teaching. Until 2025, there are many more projects in the pipeline, focusing on crafts and industrial production. As the cluster projects are based on commercially viable business plans, they are closely interlinked with the existing economy in the region. The individual projects are to be self-financing in the long run. They are to generate sufficient funds to run the local school and thus secure the education of the next generation. Cluster projects thus create model rural communities that operate as self-sustained entities and offer education and training for gainful employment in proper jobs. The cluster project model is of course transferable to other regions, and will make a substantial contribution to the sustainable growth of the Cambodian economy by 2050.

Welcome to part 2 of my conversation with Four Seasons Hotels President (Asia-Pacific Region) Rainer Stampfer
What we talk about:
Also, make sure to enjoy part 1 of our conversation here on the platform.
About The Four Seasons:
Four Seasons Hotels Limited, trading as Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, is an international luxury hotel and resort company headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Four Seasons operates more than 100 hotels and resorts worldwide. Canadian businessman Isadore Sharp founded Four Seasons in 1960. While a young architect working for his father, Sharp designed a motel for a family friend; its success motivated him to try creating his own hotel. He bought a large parcel of land in a run-down area of Toronto and planned a stopover for business travelers; the Four Seasons Motor Hotel opened in 1961. Four Seasons built more hotels, including the 1963 Inn on the Park, a $4 million two-story resort hotel in suburban Toronto that housed Canada's first discothèque. Upscale luxury became part of the brand when the company expanded to London. When a developer approached Four Seasons about building a hotel in London, Sharp planned it to compete with the city's old-world, elite hotels, such as Claridge's and The Connaught. The hotel opened in 1970.

Welcome to part 1 of my conversation with Four Seasons Hotels President (Asia-Pacific Region) Rainer Stampfer
What we talk about:

👩🏻 Welcome to part 2 of my conversation with Catalina Cock Duque, Co-Founder of Foundation "Mi Sangre".
What we talk about:
Mi Sangre was co-founded by Catalina Cock Duque and Music Star Juanes. Here his comments on the What and Why of the foundation in a Billboard article (Source = https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/magazine-feature/6730154/juanes-philanthropy-colombia-mi-sangre-foundation):
As Colombia's civil war winds down, the Latin rocker, 43, shares with Billboard his hopes for his Mi Sangre Foundation, which has provided support for thousands of landmine victims since 2006. The name Mi Sangre [My Blood] is inspired by the same sentiment behind my [2004] album of the same name: It’s about my children, my children’s children, my land, my roots. It’s what hurts and what’s important to me. When I wrote [2000’s] “Fijate Bien” about landmine victims, I was living in Los Angeles; I would speak to my mother every day, as I still do, about what was going on back home in Colombia. But it wasn’t until I went and talked to people face-to-face that I understood the gravity of the situation. I remember being invited to sing for wounded soldiers. Hearing firsthand the stories of people who had been directly affected by the conflict, it moved me to the point that I said, “I want to do something. “Colombia’s transition toward a peaceful society is our priority. The government is negotiating for peace with [left-wing guerrilla group] FARC. After nearly 60 years of fighting, so much blood has been spilled, but it’s a historic moment because we will be able to start a new chapter based on forgiveness and reconciliation.

Welcome to part two of my conversation with "The North Face" Sports Apparel Empire Founder Hap Klopp:This is what's in it for you in detail:
00:00 - Intro & Learnings In Building "The North Face"
For Hap failure is just a guide to finding the right strategy in achieving an objective. Failing is ok and needs to be embraced by a company’s culture. In order to have motivated staff, the best strategy is to hire motivated people.
07:00 - How to deal with failure
17:24 - What it takes to be successful
It is fundamental to listen to the team and stakeholders of a company in order to build a sustainable business. The fundamental reason why Hap sold The North Face in 2000, was that the business needed more management, fund raising and process than what he enjoyed. Creating new products and innovation are more of his interest.
20:48 - Leadership Advice
More about Hap Klopp: In 1968 when Hap Klopp traded-in his corporate aspirations for the life of an entrepreneur, the support network for such endeavors was not nearly what it is today. However, Hap knew that he had what it took to run a successful business and lead The North Face for 20 years as his CEO. He sold the company in 2020 and today The North Face is valued at 13 billion USD. After the passing of his father, Hap Klopp ran the family business while finishing his undergraduate degree at Stanford. He then went on to complete his MBA while orchestrating the sale of the business. After graduation, he went out to interview for positions only to find that no one was willing to hire him to run something – they all wanted him to start at the bottom and work his way up – which sounded pretty boring.
Hap’s focus was on consumer goods, marketing, sales and branding; which landed him an interview at Proctor and Gamble. During the course of the interview, he was introduced to the corporate mores that have pushed so many of us to pursue the life of an entrepreneur. In short, P&G expected each employee to wear a white shirt and tie every day, to refrain from the use of nicknames and to dutifully mind their post until an opportunity for advancement was presented. It was settled, Hap was not cutout to work for anyone else, “I didn’t want any part of it…I didn’t fit into to it” – so he embarked on his entrepreneurial journey.

"The North Face" Sports Apparel Empire Founder Hap Klopp shares his insights on how to build a brand. This is what's in it for you in detail:
00:00 - Building ‘The North Face’ Brand
07:00 - Fitness & Technology
17:24 - COVID-19 & Future of Gyms
20:48 - Successful Brand Building
Hap Klopp strongly believes that branding comes down to the true DNA of a business. It has nothing to do with a company’s name or logo. He describes what the DNA of The North Face is. In order to build a long-lasting business, looking for ‘disruption’ is key. When setting off, Hap looked into other sectors and industries in order to make sports apparel more appealing, so that people would be able to stay out longer in ‘the wild’. In order to have and keep a motivated team, he strongly believes in hiring motivated people! Only motivated people are open to look for innovation. Digitalization is and will drive future trends and not only in the Fitness Industry.

00:00 - Challenges of company mergers
04:30 - Leadership & Mentorship
09:00 - How to lead and mentor using technology
11:15 - Long Term impact of COVID-19About Baker Hughes:
Baker Hughes was born out of a 30 billion USD merger between GE Oil and Gas and Baker Hughes. The integration of 2 giants had its challenges, yet clear communication, vision and corporate mission, together with making all employees part of the integration process, resulted in the stable and flourishing business that Baker Hughes is today. According to Lorenzo, the Covid19 pandemic impacts the energy sector and potential investments into green technologies. The long-term energy solution lies with Hydrogen Fuel, however it’s a step by step process firstly focusing on energy generated from gas. Baker Hughes focus on the technologies such as AI in order to increase energy efficiencies and reach targets for our world to become C02 neutral by 2050. Climate change costs the economy around 100 billion USD and about 200.00 human lives every single year.

Welcome to the second part of my interview with Reggie Williams, NFL Football Legend, Former Disney Executive and Author. What you get:
What you get:
00:00 - When to Quit…Never?! When you consider quitting, Reggie says, remember you never quit in a vacuum. Your decision to quit will always impact other people around you. Be it your team mates, collogues and the people that love you.
06:20 - Pain & My Biggest Challenge
11:25 - Are Pro-Athletes Good Managers?
14:20 - Key Elements of Resilience Reggie’s three key elements of resilience: Everything starts with truth and authenticity. Being dedicated to the truth is key to being persistent in your endeavors. So, persistence is the second key. And thirdly, love is the underlying driver of anything we do – from birth to death. A quote from Reggie’s Book: Part of the challenge in rebounding from any difficulty (…) is to turn a negative into a positive. Losing that Super Bowl strengthened my resolve to have an impact that went far beyond football. (…). Empathy. Humility. Passion. Integrity. Inspiration. Commitment. These were some of the characteristics, I believed, that needed to define me to the people of Cincinnati, more than tackles, sacks, and interceptions. It’s one thing to be a leader for one of the best teams in the NFL. But it became just as important, if not more so, to be a leader in our community. (C9 Transitions)
About Reggie Williams: Reggie Williams is a former NFL linebacker and College Football Hall of Famer who was instrumental in building a sports-themed empire during his tenure as a Disney executive. During his fourteen years with the Cincinnati Bengals, Williams was honored as the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for is community service, and later served on the Cincinnati city council—while active as a pro athlete. He also had stints as GM for the New York/New Jersey Knights of the World League of American Football and as an NFL executive who established the first NFL Youth Education Town. A native of Flint, Michigan, he attended Southwestern High and Dartmouth College In so many ways, Reggie Williams has had the type of life that people dream of: he starred as an athlete, excelled with an Ivy League education, built a sports empire as part of an iconic corporate brand, achieved global impact as a public servant, and won major honors for his community work. Welcome to the first part of my full conversation with Dr. Axel Müller, Head of Intergenerika, Swiss Generic Pharmaceutical Industry Association What you get:
00:00 Definition & Quality of Generics
06:25 Conflict of Interests & Drug Prices
10:35 Reference Pricing
18:05 Big Pharma vs. Generics
The Covid19 pandemic will give the vast global pharma market a huge boost. Already in 2019 its total value stood at 1.25 Trillion USD, expected to hit almost 1.7 Trillion by 2024. But what if drugs produced by the big brands such as Pfizer or Novartis are just too expensive for millions of people? Can the generic drug and biosimilar sector offer a solution to get affordable drugs to every single person that might need it? Whilst Dr. Axel Müller sees reference pricing as a huge threat to the entire pharma industry, he’s sill supporting generally lower and affordable drug prices. Outsourcing drug production – or any of the ‘active parts’ of drugs to countries such as India or China is the biggest threat to potential supply change bottlenecks.

Digital assets had an amazing rally in the first 9 month of 2020, driven by many geo-political and economic insecurities. But what about 2021? Acceptance of cryptocurrencies is broadening globally. More and more professional investors are starting to invest in digital assets and the ‘space’ of Decentralized Finance – "DeFi" aka "DeFi Crypto" is starting to pose a long term threat to traditional banking models. A cheap way to invest into this ‘new asset class’ of digital currencies, is to go via Exchange Traded Products, Funds, Certificates. Instead of picking the coins individually, entering through these vehicles offers a diversified coin portfolio which potentially reduces the investment risk. Regulation of this asset class is key and there is a long way to go. Désirée Velleuer, Co-Founder & Partner of Crypto Consulting and SwissRex AG will share her insights on these developments with us.
What you get:

15:10 - Traditional Banking v’s Decentralized Finance

Dr. Tobias Reichmuth (Investor / Dragon's Den Switzerland) shares his experiences on: Once your company starts growing, there will be the point when you as a founder have to ask yourself: What do I enjoy more: Building OR operating the company? Also, make sure you choose your investors wisely: Look out for the "Smart Money". What you get:
00:00 Welcome To Interview
00:49 How To CEO? Dr. Tobias Reichmuth has been in the position of an entrepreneur, that at some point gave the operational management to another set of hands. Many founders are not willing to do that due to ‘EGO’ reasons or trust issues. But that may be wrong for the long-term success of a company.
06:20: Smart Money vs. Stupid Money: Founders need to choose their investors wisely. Most are just happy to get any money for their start up. But that’s not good enough. The better strategy is to look for ‘smart money’ right from the start! Smart investors bring money AND expertise they are willing to share with the young founders.
15:30: 3 Key Learnings For Founders: Be transparent and tell people your idea. Not a soul is going to steal it; just the opposite people may give you great advise and help you! Plus, don’t be stingy with giving out shares. The bigger an investor’s stake in your company is, the higher the willingness to help it grow and prosper, Dr. Reichmuth believes.

Raising fresh money in times of Covid-19 has become tough for young entrepreneurs. Dr. Tobias Reichmuth (Investor / Dragon's Den Switzerland) shares with us what really matters if you're a founder and looking for funding.
What you get:
00:00 - Intro
00:25 - How to Pitch Perfect to Investors: Authenticity! First and foremost, investors invest in people: the founder and his team. A great team can build a successful company with a mediocre product, but an average team won’t be able to be successful even with the most brilliant product.
11:55 - Company Valuations vs. Actual Value Financial forecasts and company valuations need to be realistic. No investor will buy the idea that a startup’s potential market is 65bn USD big and thus the company’s valuation is justified at 20 million without any previous sales whatsoever. Valuations is big stumbling block in many pitches, as they are often driven by the entrepreneurs’ blinkered love for the product idea. Totally detached from reality.
19:55 - Vision, Focus, Implementation Whilst showing a long-term vision is important to potential investors, it is much more important to see the HOW? to turn that vision into reality. Strategy, process, focus and go-to-market strategy, asset allocation amongst other points, need to be part of a good pitch.

Star-Singer, Dancer & Actress Ute Lemper takes us behind the scenes of stardom. She shares with us her tougher experiences made in the entertainment industry.
What you get:
00:42 - Drama & Tragedy: Ute tells us why she does not like to play frivolous roles and finds herself more at home with deep and dramatic characters.
05:24 - Ute & Marlene Dietrich: The biggest impact that Marlene Dietrich had on Ute was how free, outspoken and strong she was. Standing by your decisions, choices and actions is and remains always the right thing to do and sets you free.
11:43 - Balancing Career & Family: Balancing a successful career with four children and a famous husband, is a complicated beast. It is hard for men to let the women take the lead because they are more successful or the family breadwinner. Becoming a stay-home dad is certainly not easy. There may be a lot of competition in a couple, and the male ‘Ego’ can suffer.
18:47 - La Vie en Rose? Life is not pink, or ‘la vie en rose’. It has thousands of colors. Important is to make authentic choices that one does not regret.
20:00 - Key Learnings: Her key learnings are… Stay curious, continue to learn, stay open minded, be compassionate to other people and trust that following your heart will always work out for you.

Star-Singer, Dancer & Actress Ute Lemper and me, we’re talking about what it takes to be star.
What you get:
00:00 - Intro
00:32 - The Impact of Covid19 on Performing Arts
06:30 - Virtual Performances
11:00 - My Life & Success
18:00 - Life & its Compromises
22:40 - From Boom To Bust?
Personally speaking, my conversation with Ute Lemper gave me goose bumps. With a career of over 40 successful years in the show business, she’s still full of zest, enthusiasm for music and the performing arts. She can’t wait to get back to touring the globe again. She shares how dramatic the lockdown is for all artists in the industry, yet she enjoys also finally having some precious time with her husband and her four children. She’s so humble and actually never felt like a star. Rather she feels privileged to be able to perform. Media attention does not make you happy, she says – as one day you are pumped up, and dropped the next. The media and Journalism is a very fickle trade. Looking back, she’s learned that life is full of compromises and that sometimes you just have to motor on, if you like it or not.

Astrologer Alexander Graf von Schlieffen and me, we’re looking at Trump’s birth chart.
Welcome to the second part of my interview with Astrologer Alexander Graf von Schlieffen about Trump’s Zodiac & his Chances of Winning the 2020 US Election
What you get:
00.00 – 20.20 Trump’s Birth Chart
20.20 – 24.10 Biden & Harris the better leaders?
24.10 – END The Big Picture 2020
In this second part of my conversation Alexander shows in detail Trump’s natal chart and what it means for his life going forward. Alexander states that Trump is the wrong leader to lead into the new Air Cycle and the new époque build on intrinsic values rather than materialistic ones.
Trump has two big wounds that he struggles with for all his live and that is the fear of rejection and his total lack of empathy. The inability to feel feeling he tries to compensate through propagating a big ego and a strong sense of pride. But the natural cycles are stronger than him and his era will ‘bleed out’. His constellations show that he makes deals behind peoples back, has a tricky way of negotiating and tries to hide many things.
But also, Joe Bides’ stars do not seem to reveal he’s the right or better leader for the USA. He may be the catalyst for the ‘right one’, which seems to be indicated by the natal chart of Kamala Harris. She has more ‘personal qualities’ that feed the new AIR cycle of collaboration and coming together.

Welcome to the first part of my interview with Astrologer Alexander Graf von Schlieffen about Trump’s Zodiac & his Chances of Winning the 2020 US Election
What you get:
00.00 – 13.45 Trump is a Gemini & What it means
13.45 – 15.20 Trump, Jupiter & Money
15.20 – END The End of the 200 year ‘EARTH’ cycle
Astrologer Alexander Graf von Schlieffen and me, we’re looking at what Trump’s birth chart ✨ reveals about his chances of winning the US election 2020. In my conversation with Alexander, he describes President Donald Trump’s Star Sign: Gemini. Geminis are said to be two faced. Trump’s birth chart reveals that his character is composed of two extremes. The Jupiter, Saturn conjunctions makes him lucky, somewhat brilliant but he has a total detachment from reality and a lack of empathy. With Leo in the mix of his Zodiac, Trump is all about ‘me – myself and I’. He embodies and fully represents the 200-year cycle which is coming to an end on December 21, 2020: The Earth Cycle. The last 200 years were all about materialistic values, numbers and quantity rather than quality. His Zodiac also shows his utmost fear of feeling anything, never mind showing any deep feelings towards other people. At the end of every époque comes the start of a now one. The next 200 years will be the AIR-Cycle which is all about content and sharing, cooperation and collaboration. An ear where people such as Trump will have little value if any.

Apart from billions of USDs going up in smoke, one FUNDAMENTAL thing got completely crushed, too…can you guess? … Hint: it’s something that is very hard to gain, and very easy to destroy… people’s TRUST! …TRUST in our financial system & regulators, in our political elite and institutions, there to protect all of us. Thousands of investors felt cheated and angry, yet helpless and defenseless against what they felt was a totally corrupted reality. On the Flip Side …out of THAT CRISIS… something new was CREATED! A technology, that was supposed to be the antidote to corruption, to fraud and to the potential manipulation of our financial system: The Blockchain! The Covid19 Pandemic has impacted brands globally, but the latest survey published by WPP and Kantar of the Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands of 2020 shows, that Global Brands have increased their total brand value by 6% over the last 12 months, adding $277 billion to reach $5 trillion in total value. True, the health crisis causes a broader economic downturn, as Travel has been decimated. Yet, TRADE and E-COMMERCE - especially of High Value Brands – continues to increase.
So, in this episode of ‘Covid19 – from crisis to creation’ we are looking how a strong brand and a sustainable branding strategy generates resilience during tough economic conditions. What does it take for a company to scale not only successfully around the planet but in a way that can weather ANY TYPE of Black Swan Event? AND we want to make it specific and Focus on ‘Made in Italy’ in the biggest Economy of the world, the USA! In 2018 Italy’s exports to the US totaled more than 50bn US, about 10 % its total export volume toping 540bn USD a year. The US is Italy’s largest NON-EU export mkt. The latest report by WPP and Kantar showed that well-loved Italian-brands such as Gucci, Kinder, Ferrari, Prada, Nutella, Armani, Fendi and Pirelli, last year increased their brand value increased by over 14% to around $97 billion. Looking back, what did you do all day during the weeks of the Covid19 lockdown? …Watched Netflix all day? …Organized dinner Parties via Zoom or Skype? …Produced some photo albums on line…or did you cook, eat and cook some more? Good fun! But, perhaps you picked up some literature, a good book to read, to take you away from a frustrating lock-up-reality into another world?! I certainly did and one of the most wonderful books I read in a long time was: Perfectly Paired: The Love Affair Behind Silver Oak Cellars BY Bonny Meyer.
The reason why I felt like inviting Bonny on my show to talk about her book? Because, apart from being thoroughly touched by it, for me it was what I would call an ‘ALL IN ONE-BOOK’…. It is a memoir, a love story, a family saga, but also a non-fiction instruction for building and scaling a GOOD AND SUSTAINABLE BUSINESS together with your soul mate. Bonny’s book takes you through a plethora of emotions, makes you shed a tear one moment, and makes you laugh out loud the next. It is intimate, loving and mentoring in a genuine and generous way.
Bonny started Silver Oaks Vineries with her late husband Justin, when California’s Napa Valley had not yet reached its fame of producing world renounced wines. Silver Oaks focused on Cabernets Sauvignon and made it to what it is today…the KING OF NAPA VALLEY RED WINES. After selling the business in 2001 Bonny transitioned to become a successful investor. She’s the Principle of Meyer Family Enterprises dedicated to socially responsible investments, and in such supports businesses that help to ‘solve the world’s problems.
Her Key learnings: Know that whatever choice we make, has consequences. Choices should always be made with the intention to be as beneficial to others as possible.

Do you sometimes feel that life has become almost too complicated – not to say crazy - And not just since the onset of the Covid19 Pandemic… Just a zap through the TV programs and we are inundated with news about: devastating floods and wild fires, hurricanes sweeping away millions of homes, Anti-Semitism and Racism and Pro-Democratic Demonstrations - be it in HK, Israel or Belarus. What about Brexit, Trade Wars and North Korea pushing for nuclear supremacy…the ice caps melting, soon more microplastic in our food than micronutrients…We hear about a stark rise in suicides (esp. women) and drug abuse…and I could go on and on…

What the heck happened on Wall Street and the rest of the Global Market on September 4 and 5 of 2020? Global markets fell most since June 2020, with the US Nasdaq even hitting a May 2020 low, losing over 5% in one session. It seems that doubt crept into investors’ minds about whether equities have risen too quickly and valuations are reaching extremes. Volatility has gained momentum again. Was the sell off just a quick correction? Are people worried about the continuation of the Covid19 pandemic and look weary ahead to THE key political event in November: the US Presidential election? Or worse? Are we seeing the start of a fundamental change in market trends and of investment sentiment and behavior for the rest of 2020?
Let’s recap: Since the US markets hit a Covid19 Pandemic and Lockdowns low on March 23, it rallied strong until September 3. Over that period the S&P 500 gained about + 60 %, the DOW was up a good + 56% and the Technology driven Index, the Nasdaq, gained a stunning +75 %. Sustainable? A bubble? What do investors (private and institutional) think, feel and most importantly expect from the financial markets for the rest of 2020?
So, I thought it was about time to check back in with our expert of behavioral finance, Manfred Hübner, to show us how his SENTIX-Sentiment-Index maps out investor’s minds and subsequent investment decisions. We talk about the ‘wall of worry’, US equities and bonds, inflation and Gold as well as Digital Assets. Enjoy his insights in the two-part conversation!

Join me and Eric G. Sarasin for a conversation why Covid19 may actually be an opportunity to finally transition our economies and societies to a CO2 free and sustainable reality. Eric believes that the stimulus programs by the governments around the world to combat the Covid19 fallout, should be channeled into the ‘green economy’ and investments. According a WEF study he mentions, transitioning into sustainable business models creates billions worth of corporate profits and many hundred thousand of jobs.
He tells us how his Family owned bank, Bank Sarasin, started a ‘green investment fund’ many years ago – amongst the first of its kind – yet found it hard to sell it to investors. Now things have changed. His involvement with the Race For Water Foundation is very important to him, as he sees climate change and hardship caused by it potentially resulting in social unrest and anarchy. A statistic he mentions: If we fail to change our M.O. with Plastic right now, then there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish by 2050!
Eric Sarasin has 30 years of banking experience with Morgan Stanley, Pictet & Cie, Citibank and, of course, Sarasin Bank (now Bank J. Safra Sarasin). At Sarasin Bank, he holds various management positions in many business sectors and developed the family-owned bank into one of Switzerland’s leading private banks, culminating in his role as Deputy CEO of the Group. Since 2019, he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Singularity Group SA and Board member of several other private companies and investment companies. He is also Chairman of TIGER21 Zurich, an association for entrepreneurs, CEO’s and specially qualified investors from around the world, with 700 members. During his career, Eric has held a number of public, non-private and cultural management positions, including 12 years as President of the German-Swiss Chamber of Commerce, five years as Treasurer of WWF International, and he sits on the Executive Board as treasurer of the League against Cancer in Basel, the Swiss Peace Foundation, the Paul Josef Jenni Foundation, the Maurice E. Muller Foundation, the Race for Water Foundation, as well as heading and participating in NGOs, including Human Rights Watch. Eric is married, has four children, and lives in Basel.

With almost all public events cancelled and concert halls closed, how will we enjoy Art, Culture and Public Life in future? Is ‘going all digital’ really the answer for the long term? Leading performing-arts institutions in New York City are reducing staff as pandemic-related closures are stretching into 2021, with millions of dollars in federal aid running out. Sir Clive Gillinson tells me that Carnegie Hall furloughed 51 full-time workers, and implemented pay cuts for the remaining employees after extending its closure until at least Jan. 7. By the way, The New York Philharmonic recently eliminated 44 jobs, about 40% of its administrative staff, through a mix of furloughs and terminations. Members of the 98-person orchestra all kept their jobs, although their base salaries were reduced by 25%. However, both, Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic, were among the lucky cultural organizations that received forgivable loans from the Payment Protection Program, the $669 billion stimulus package designed to keep employees of U.S. small businesses and nonprofits on payroll during the coronavirus pandemic. But could more be done?
Clive and his team reacted very quickly to the fact that Carnegie Hall may not open any time soon and created the digital event called ‘Live with Carnegie Hall’, a 75-minute program with star performers transmitting the show from their homes. The format has been very well received and reaches many hundreds of thousands of people across the world. Whilst going increasingly digital can be a long term added value, it will never be the same experience as going to a live event. Trying to replicate ‘live’ when going ‘online’ should not be the aim. However, what should be the aim, is to always perform with utmost excellence and present no less than extraordinary experiences. That’s the only way to keep the audience and also the patrons of Carnegie Hall enthused in the long term.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) expects over 400million Full-Time Jobs will be lost in the 2nd quarter of 2020 alone due to the Covid19 crisis. Poverty has been a long-standing problem globally AND it’s about to get worse! But not only in so called developing or officially poor countries. Rich countries – Poor People that’s where my spotlight focuses for this episode of ‘Covid19 – from Crisis to Creation’.
About 8.2% of the Swiss population is classified as poor. And 14% of the people living in this rich country are at the border of poverty. The number of people going to food banks or depending on charities such as the Schweizer Tafel to get their daily substances has gone up 400% since the Covid19 crisis hit. Scenes of long queues of people waiting for food donations in rich cities such as Zurich and Geneva have made headline news.
At the same time over 2.8million tones of perfectly edible food is being thrown out and wasted in Switzerland every single year. Here also the Schweizer Tafel is trying to elevate the problem by picking up produce beyond the official ‘sell by’ date from supermarkets and other institutions and deliver them with their trucks to people in need across the entire country. Foundations and Charities like the Schweizer Tafel make a difference and will become increasingly important for thousands of people, be it the elderly, single mothers and their children or recently unemployed, in the future. They need financial and hands on support from whom ever wants and can lend a helping hand.
The official definition of who’s poor in this country is: A single person with an average income of 2.300, - USD per month or a family of four (2x adults & 2x kids) with a disposable income of 3.990, - USD per month. The Swiss Gini Index - measure of inequality - is around 29 (100 = total inequality. ZERO = total equality).

Join me and Michael Kott, Founder and CEO of Digital Asset Platform, CM-Equity AG, for a conversation on the Financial Market 4.0. Fund raising via Digital Assets saw tough times since the highs of the Initial Coin Offerings/Security Token Offerings (ICO/STO) Market in mid-2018. According to the ICO/STO Report by PwC (March 2019), the market value fell sharply in the second half of that year, marking the beginning of the ‘Crypto Winter’. A lot of people got ‘burnt’, Bitcoin gained a bad reputation…and thus casting a shadow on the Entire Digital Asset Industry.
However, according to Michael the tide is turning, with STOs becoming an increasingly popular alternative to IPOs (Initial Public Offerings), for companies to raise funding. The current Covid19 pandemic and economic crisis leaves many businesses with the need to raise money as fast and cost efficient as possible. Clear regulation by authorities across the globe to protect investors, is the pivotal driver for the RE-CREATION TRUST, providing a credible framework for sustainable market growth in Digital Assets.
The EU Commission is looking at formalizing a Classification of Security Tokens as a ‘Digital Representation’ of a Real-World Assets, such as Gold, Property and Equity and by so doing, include them in the current regulatory framework of: Prospectus Regulation, MIFID II, Central Security Depositary Regulation and The Settlement Finality Directive,…. Collaboration between Central Banks, Regulators and Corporations internationally is key to a cohesive and functioning market. Amongst the main advantages of Security Token Offerings (v’s traditional IPOs), are Cost Reduction, Fractional Ownership and broad Access, 24/7 Trading and increased Liquidity. For Michael it is clear, the disruption of the Traditional Corporate Finance Market is here…AND… it is here to stay!

Join me and Manfred Hübner for a conversation on why global stock markets are pushing towards all-time highs, whilst the underlying economic outlook expects the worst recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s. Manfred is the creator of the sentix Global Investor Sentiment Survey and one of the leading experts on Behavioral Finance in Europe.
Manfred explains, Behavioral Finance studies the psychology behind investment decisions. Fact is, humans can’t make 100% rational decisions (see Daniel Kahneman and Amos Tversky). Same applies when it comes to investing money, even if done by institutional investors and market professionals. Emotions ‘get in the way’ and compete with rational thought processes. The way human brains evolved is key to understanding human decision-making processes and actions. The Limbic System (mainly emotions), engages at the same time as the Neocortex (mainly conscious thought and reasoning) stand in competition. This can result in less conducive decisions or mistakes.
The sentix sentiment index indicate investors' market expectations over the next month. It reflects investors' emotions which fluctuate between fear and greed. Negative sentiment extremes are usually an immediate indication of a price recovery, whereas very high optimism is often a warning sign of impending price weakness. The sentiment indices should therefore be interpreted in a contrary way. Longer-term reversal points are indicated by the Sentiment in combination with Strategic Bias. The Strategic Bias (as a 6-month expectation) should point in the opposite direction of the Sentiment. The sentix Sentiment is obtained from the weekly sentix Survey (sentix Global Investor Survey) of currently more than 5,000 private and institutional investors, whose estimations of 14 financial markets are collected (source: sentix sentiment index website).

Join me and former President of Latvia, Vaira Vike-Freiberga in an insightful conversation about what her childhood experience as an immigrant has taught her about handling times of crisis. Fleeing from her home country Latvia, Vaira and her family first went to Germany, then moved to Morocco and finally settled in Canada, where she obtained her PhD in Psychology. In 1999 she was drafted by the Latvian Parliament and elected to the office of President of Latvia. In 2003 she was re-elected for a second term. She played a key role in Latvia becoming an EU and NATO member. Vaira believes the best thing to do ‘when things get hard, is to focus on the NOW and to plough on’.
Times of crisis call for the willingness of personal sacrifice, overcoming loss without major outcry and to – not only believe – but also to participate in creating a better future. Democracy gives the people the right to vote. We are all free to cast a vote and with that vote express trust in the government and its leadership. However, as of late – especially in Europe – people have used the tool of ‘protests’ and ‘demonstrations’ potently a little lightly.
Making important decisions about how to deal with the Covid19 pandemic is a difficult balance between the unpredictable outcome for society’s health and safety, and the predictable economic detriment the lockdown has caused (and continues to do so for some time). Nothing is definite. Anything is probable. Decisions need to be made on a rational basis after considering a variety of probable outcomes. Especially governments, but also individuals and communities benefit from a strong sense of solidarity, cooperation, and empathy when dealing with any type of hardship.

Join me and Andy Marsh, President and CEO of Nasdaq listed PlugPower (symbol: PLUG) for a conversation about how the Covid19 crisis, boosts demand for Hydrogen Fuel Cell e-Mobility, especially in the B2B ‘Material Handling Industry’ (e.g. Forklift Trucks). Some of PlugPower’s main customers are Amazon, Walmart and Carrefour. Fuel Cell Technology has been around for a long time, yet has only lately matured from a high-cost and low-implementation technology into profitable commercialization, by offering turnkey Hydrogen Fuel Cell solutions. The Global Hydrogen Generation market accounted for $103.20 billion in 2017 and is expected to reach $207.48 billion by 2026 growing at a CAGR of 8.1% from 2017 to 2026. (source: ResearchAndMarkets.com's)
Andy explains, the difference between Hydrogen (produced by using fossil fuels) and Green Hydrogen (using renewable/green energy) and PlugPower’s intense focus on shifting fast towards Green Hydrogen production. Companies such as German Bosch and Chinese Diesel Engine maker, WeiChai, are investing billions into the HFC (Hydrogen Fuel Cells) market and its infrastructure, as to broaden its implementation. Regarding the passenger car sector, Toyota, Honda and Hyundai already offer FCEV’s (Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles).
Albeit expensive, FCEV will eventually offer a viable and cost-efficient alternative to fossil fuel powered cars and even BEV’s (Battery Electric Vehicles), such as Tesla cars. Some analysts agree, that car producers only focusing on Battery Fueled e-Mobility, can expect strong competition from cars powered by Hydrogen Power in a not so distant future. The main advantages of Hydrogen Fuel Cell e-mobility: fast refueling, long range, high power density. Disadvantages: relatively costly (due to current low levels scaling) and the need of more infrastructure investments. Disclaimer: ‘I am an investor.’

Join me and Bruno Roche for a conversation on the benefits of the ‘Economics of Mutuality’. EOM is a disruptive Management- and Business Performance Model that rewrites the current Paradigm and Definition of ‘Profit’ & ‘Capital’. In his book ‘Completing Capitalism: Heal Business to Heal the World’, he argues that today’s Capitalism is Incomplete (co-author Jay Jakub). Bruno says, today People and Planet are still in Service of Business – and Business is in Service of Finance - and eventually, Finance is in Service of ITSELF only. That’s an Unstable and Unsustainable System.
Studies by Oxford University have shown that 90% of Businesses engaging Sustainability Practices lower their Cost of Capital, 88% of Companies managed to increase their Operational Performance and 80% of listed Firms, showed a stronger Share Price performance. A more complete form of Capitalism, drives better financial performance, because it includes and mobilizes Other forms of Capital, such as Human-Capital, Social-Capital, Natural-Capital ALONGSIDE Financial-Capital.
Business Leaders must Understand that their Responsibility needs to go beyond maximizing (monetary) profits for Shareholders. Limiting Profits & Capital to Money, as has been done over the last decades, fails to build strong, resilient and sustainable Companies. This has been shown already in the Financial Crisis of 2008, and is about to be demonstrated again due the economic challenges due to the Covid19 pandemic. Dr. Steven Garber, Principal of the Washington Institute, describes ‘Economics of Mutuality’, as neither Charity, nor Corporate Social Responsibility, but rather a Way for Sustained Profitability. He says, EOM aims for making Money in a Way that Remembers the Meaning of the Marketplace.

Inflation is to hit us big, and threatens our wealth! So, Inflation-Protection (Hedging) is key! Inflation is ‘in the making’ due to the Covid19 financial help programs by Central Banks and Governments to buffer an expected economic downturn. This time round, the Federal Reserve’s Program is larger than the last few programs taken together.
According to Alex Krainer, Hedge Fund Manager, Commodities Trader and advisor to Altana Wealth Management S.A.M. (Monaco), the best tools to protect from inflation are Commodity Futures and Farm Land. The worst investors can do is to invest in stocks, when inflation is a risk. Gold and other precious metals have always been the classic inflation hedge, but Commodities tend to perform even better, Alex is convinced. His book ‘Mastering Uncertainty in Commodities Trading – Generating sustainable Profits through Trend Following’, is a deep dive into investing in times of economic uncertainties.
Historical Data shows, that printing additional cash creates episodes of Hyper-Inflation and unless ‘re-absorbed’ fast by the Central Banks, private (paper) wealth goes ‘up in flames’ and loses its purchasing power. When (?) is inflation going to happen, is more difficult to answer.
One of the most important lessons in investing is: Don’t Trade – but invest! Don’t get ahead of yourself, thinking by jumping in and out of stocks you’ll turn a guaranteed profit. Plus, you have to be able to ‘stomach’ losses. Even the best strategy today, may turn out wrong in future, making you lose money. A risk management strategy is as important as your investment strategy. A solid risk management strategy prevents you from chasing your own tail and panicking when the markets turn against you.
His Key advise for Life: Invest – don’t trade. Think what you want to achieve. Make sure you turn that into a clear investment strategy, have a ‘cushion’ and a risk management strategy to buffer potential periods of losses and stick to your approach. Don’t panic and remember when you start trading (rather than investing) the odds are against you.

‘Ageing is nothing but Evolutionary Negligence’ that can be remedied by Technology. According to Dr. Kris Verburgh, Technology will help us all to live for hundreds of years, keeping our health, cognitive functions and youthful looks. This belief drives Tech companies such as Google and Amazon, to invest hundreds of millions of USD into the science of Longevity. Amongst the main Longevity investors are Jeff Bezos, Jim Mellon, Larry Page and Sergey Brin.
Together with Dr. Kris Verburgh, one of the top longevity experts, author of ‘The Longevity Code’ and a Venture Partner of the 100 million USD ‘Longevity Vision Fund’, we discuss how Gene Editing, 3D-Bio-Printing and Stem Cell Therapy will soon be part of eradicating the root cause of lethal diseases such as cancer. Growing human organs in the bodies of GMO Pigs, will become a normal way to keep our human bodies ‘up to speed’. As the 21st century brings about a new Biotech Revolution, we will be able to program and RE-program the Human DNA. However, Bio Hacking also brings the risk of Bio Terror, i.e. create lethal viruses.
The right Diet is the ‘low tech’ approach to slow down the aging process. Dr. Verburgh developed the ‘Hourglass Diet’ which recommends to avoid refined sugars, dairy and animal proteins as they damage our cells. Fasting is a powerful tool to help to body in repairing the damage caused by our daily lifestyle. His Key advise for Life: ‘Knowledge is Gold and Power, so read a lot. If you read only 3 books about a subject, you’ll know more about it than 99% of the entire population. Be critical and check out the information you receive, especially by the media. Be kind and generous because it feels good and remember: what goes around comes around?!’

Join me and Cammie Wolf Rice to get an in-depth insight into the long-raging US Opioid Crisis, causing thousands of deaths each year. Around 1/3rd of these deaths are due to Prescription Drugs alone. Cammie tells us her personal story and how she lost her son Christopher as his MD prescribed highly addictive painkillers after an operation. She feels that the US Health Care System, the Government and the Pharma Industry fail society, by not providing adequate education and warnings about the dangers of prescribed Painkillers. To fight this reality and in honor of Christopher, Cammie founded The Christopher Wolf Crusade (www.CWC.ngo) in 2018. The CWC’s mission is to spare preventable deaths and save lives worldwide, by providing preventative solutions, education, and advocacy for the American opioid epidemic.
Cammie warns, we all are exposed to the danger of becoming addicted to hard drugs by first taking prescription Painkillers such as Oxycotin, Vicodin, Demerol (etc.) and even Ritalin - often prescribed to children with ADHD. The stigma attached to addicts is utterly wrong – anybody can fall prey to drug addiction. About 75% of Heroin Users started their addiction by first becoming addicted to Prescription Drugs given by their MDs, often for minor ailments, she tells us. Since the start of the Covid19 Pandemic, total deaths caused by drug overdoses has shot up by 30% in some US states.
Each year Prescription Opioid Misuse costs the US economy almost 80bn USD, according to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). The system has to change and the spotlight is on Policy Makers, Big Pharma, Education for Medical Professionals, but also on Patients themselves, to become less trusting towards any kind of prescription from their Medical Doctors.

Join me and Christian Dreyer, Independent Analyst and Former CEO of the Charted Financial Analyst (CFA) Society Switzerland, for a discussion to understand how a German DAX listed Fintech Star can inflate Sales and Profits by 2 Billion USD. At least so it seems. How can that happen unnoticed? Who’s to blame and who’s accountable? The auditors, The Supervisory Board, The Government Regulator BAFIN…?
Despite the Enron Scandal back in 2001, defrauding 40 Billion USD and scandals such Parmalat, Medoff’s Ponzi scheme and misconduct by a number of banks during the Financial Crisis of 2008, something is just plainly wrong in how the ‘check & balances’ System is structured in our Financial Industry.
Christian believes we need a comprehensive reassessment of the system, engaging watchdogs on the EU level, as well as independent Supervision of supervisors and audit companies. There is too much conflict of interest and too much at stake, such as investor trust and a systemic failure of our global financial system.

Sir Martin Sorrell is the Advertising and Marketing Icon who’s founded and built the world’s biggest advertising company WPP. When he left the company in 2018, WPP had a market capitalization of 16bn GBP and over 200.000 employees in 113 countries. Since he founded S4 Capital, a purely digital marketing company, roughly 2 years ago it’s market cap has reached well over 1.5bn GBP.
For Sir Martin Social Media Platforms are ‘supremely powerful’ due to their global reach and the velocity at which information can spread across the globe. Facebook boast over 3bn monthly users, so eliminating hate speech on its platform is pivotal. However, Sir Martin does NOT believe companies should pull or pause their advertising from platforms such as Facebook or Twitter. Economic pressure through ad boycotts is wrong and does not work in the long run. Constructive dialogue and finding a solution for true change is the better strategy.
Using Twitter as a global communication tool, is ‘extremely intelligent’… even for government representatives and Presidents. However, Sir Martin points out that communicating through Social Media needs to be done diligently and with a clear understanding of potential impact and ramifications of the content published. His Key advice for Life: ‘Find an Industry you enjoy, build a Reputation, don’t be a Job-Hopper, Learn Languages (Chinese) and Code. And if you can, start your own Company and invest in it. Disclaimer: I am an investor.

Join me and Sandra Navidi for an impactful conversation about the Power of the Financial Elite, Networking in the Financial Industry, and How Networks can make – but also potentially break the global Financial System. In her Book ‘SuperHubs, How the Financial Elite and their Networks rule OUR world’, Sandra shows the benefits but also the systemic risks of networking amongst powerful individuals. People with the highest number of contacts, will attract more connections, power and also financial means. They are called SuperHubs.
In our globalized world, interconnectedness is an inherent component of the financial system and indispensable for the exchange of goods and services. To scale the benefits of this global reach, top executives build an ever-higher number of interlinkages. As the network grows, it becomes more complex and harder to control. At some point this has a destabilizing effect, especially as ‘Power Brokers’ are reluctant to keep lucrative activities ‘balanced’ to keep the entire system stable. Failing that, inequality will sky rocket even more. Sandra sees SuperHubs like President Trump only adding to that imbalance.
People like Richard Fuld (CEO of Lehman Bros), Mike Miklen (Junk Bond King), John Meriwether (Founder of LTCM) were all SuperHubs, ‘playing the system’ too hard and pushing it over the edge. These individuals became a systemic risk for the global Financial Industry pushing economies into deep economic crisis. What’s the solution? Sandra uses a quote by Albert Einstein: ‘we don’t need to think more BUT think DIFFERENTLY!’
