The Season 4 finale is here. Very bittersweet, but we're excited to end the season with an amazing episode talking about this issues of right and wrong. Jason experiences a moment of humility as the Lord corrects his thinking around a very popular story in the scriptures. We hit on politics. What?! Yep. We dive right in tackling this issues of right and wrong. Turns out, we've been wrong. But so have so many others. The question isn't whether or not people will be wrong at some point, the question is "how will we treat people WHEN they're wrong?"

Have you ever wondered why you might struggle hearing the voice of God? Most of the time it's because we don't slow down long enough to listen. Sometimes silencing the outside voices helps us hear more clearly. For others, they may not even think that God has anything to say, because He's said it all in scripture. Seriously, God's not mute on His throne only speaking when the pages of a book are open. He's bigger than that. Here we go again on hearing from the Lord as we seek after relationship with Him!

There's a huge difference between what we're capable of and what the Spirit can do. Scripture is clear, a mind set on the flesh is death, but a mind set on the Spirit is life and peace. The law is powerless to defeat sin so Jesus had to do that for us. But then when it comes to "fighting sin" in our lives, it seems the task is put all on us. How does this make sense? Jason gets vulnerable in this one, talking about his past and how he was led astray by a perverted, distorted view of love. He shares about this work the Lord is doing in him right now.

God, our Father has unconditional love for us. We love because he first loved us. The only condition for that love was that He chose to give it, despite our flaws, our sin, our misses and our mistakes. While we were sinners Christ died for us. We're to love our neighbors and love our enemies as ourselves. With all that being said, what does it look like to love without condition in the current climate of our society in America in June 2020, after all that has happened in the past weeks? How do we get over Church hurt? We spend time w/ Brad Bates of the Angry Christian Podcast hearing about his story of ministry and some of the church hurt he endured along the way. We don't end there, Brad gives some great insight after telling his story about how he dealt with that pain and some of the lessons he learned as he dealt with some consequences of his anger as a result of the hurts.
After dealing with the pain, Brad helped start the Angry Christian Podcast where they explore the paths taken into and out of anger as Christians who have been called to be full of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22-23).

Season 4 is here! God has shown us the focus for this season: being "loving and life-giving". We really want to help point people to the Lord to find life, encouragement, and ultimately rest as mature sons of God. We're hitting hard on rest this episode, talking about practicing introspection and being self-aware to diagnose busyness and unrest in self. The Lord calls us to himself when we are weary and burdened. It's a beautiful invitation, but we have to be in a place where we can admit we are weary and burdened. We're happy to be back! Matt Thomas of Firm Foundations joins us to share his story from addition and violence to life and freedom in Christ! He wrote a book about his story called The Overlooked and is available on Amazon.com.

Matt’s life path has been both winding and bumpy – born in Oregon, sent to boarding school in Washington, joined the Navy in California, attended college in Indiana, and went to prison in Arizona – but has been on fire for God’s kingdom since coming to Kansas in 2011. He has battled the demons of addiction and abuse, and knows the hurt and devastation this kind of sin can cause.
Matt Works at Brothers In Blue Reentry in Lansing Correctional Facility and his true passion is evangelizing and spreading the good news about Jesus Christ – specifically to people that society tends to neglect. He stubbornly counts himself a Raiders fan, and is a huge fan of good barbecue.

In this episode, Jason and Chris interview Author, Blogger and Podcaster Keith Giles about his book Jesus Unbound: Liberating The Word Of God From The Bible.
We explore the idea that the Word of God and our ultimate authority is Jesus alone and that the scriptures are always meant to point us to Him. Prepare to have some of your beliefs challenged! We're not saying you have to agree with everything that is discussed, but you'll certainly have to keep an open mind and test all of this for yourself.
*Side note. We've recently been interviewing people with varying beliefs that challenge our traditionally held beliefs. We at the SDP find it interesting, challenging and necessary to hear from different sides of the fence on varying issues. We won't always totally line up, and sometimes we may flat out disagree but our podcast is a a platform for these beliefs to be voiced and considered. This episode serves a dual purpose. We are 1) updating our very first episode with this recording so that up front people get a taste of what the podcast becomes, and 2) publishing this as Season 3 Episode 7. We've grown over time, and are going into our 3rd year of podcasting. Things have changed a little bit! Hopefully this gives you a little more insight into who we are and where we're at in our walk currently. The truth is, none of us are 100% totally satisfied with the current state of evangelicalism. We've got some beef to resolve, and this is where we are in this season. We hash some of it out in this episode.
Co-Host - Chris Cerna is a former youth pastor turned co-church planter turned house church leader. Of course he loves Jesus! He brings another flavor the conversation and some saltiness of his own. His desire to connect with the listeners is a major strength.
Co-Host – Jason teaches and leads at the Source Wichita in Wichita, KS. His ability to direct conversations by asking questions that really make you think shift and guide the trajectory and depth of the Salty Dog podcasts. Having planted within an "attractional church" model, his theologies and philosophy of ministry has evolved over time.

Toxic masculinity has become a buzzword in our nation as of late. NY times says this: "Researchers have defined it, in part, as a set of behaviors and beliefs that include the following:
- Suppressing emotions or masking distress
- Maintaining an appearance of hardness
- Violence as an indicator of power (think: “tough-guy” behavior)
So, as men and believers in Christ, how should we conduct ourselves in light of toxic masculinity being a thing? Derek Shore comes back on to help us navigate the situation. Spoiler alert, we end on Jesus.

Welcome to the Salty Dogs Podcast! This episode has been updated from our original version to help give a little more insight into who we are and where we're at in our walk currently. The podcast has evolved over time into it's own. Season 3 brings a new cohost, Chris Cerna and a little more "saltiness". Hopefully this gives you a taste of what's to come. Each season has it's own tone and feel, but we hope you listen through!
Co-Host - Chris Cerna is a former youth pastor turned co-church planter turned house church leader. Of course he loves Jesus! He brings another flavor the conversation and some saltiness of his own. His desire to connect with the listeners is a major strength.
Co-Host – Jason teaches and leads at the Source Wichita in Wichita, KS. His ability to direct conversations by asking questions that really make you think shift and guide the trajectory and depth of the Salty Dog podcasts.
Co-Host – Casey has true grit. His raw view of life pours edge into the conversations as he seeks to share his true love for others. He wrestles with human nature and prevails in the grace shown to him. You can hear it in him, if you hear him.
