Misunderstandings happen all the time. When we misunderstand a spouse or a friend, the consequences might be confusion, frustration, or even disconnection in the relationship. After Peter heals the lame man, he looks to correct a misunderstood people and provide gospel clarity. (11-03-19)
When you encounter the powerful work of Jesus in your life, rejoicing and praise is the right response. In this sermon, Alex walks us through how Jesus must evoke worship in our lives. (10-27-19)
Why is community so important? Is it really that important? As Drew walks us through this well known passage in Acts we see the big idea that the gospel leads us to share life together, not live life a part. (10-20-19)
Repent and be baptized; these are the words or truth we see throughout the gospel and here in Acts. Jesus is the only way is the message of the gospel. This is not a message of despair, this is a message of hope! (10-13-19)
Why are promises so important? Broken promises can leave us with broken and wounded hearts. They can fill our mind with doubts and make it difficult to trust people. When it comes to God, He is absolutely good on every promise that He makes. This is so important to the message and the mission of Jesus. (10-06-19)
What happens when the Holy Spirit moves? People meet Jesus, communities change and Jesus is glorifed. (09-29-19)
After Jesus ascends, the apostles are faced with a major decision; they need to replace Judas' position. Instead of rushing or panicking, we get a great model for how to make difficult decisions in the midst of difficult times. (09-22-19)
Sometimes we ask the wrong questions. This is what we see from the apostles after spending 40 days with the resurrected Jesus. They want a political kingdom but Jesus offers something far greater. This week we look at what it means to be his witness and to re-focus on His purpose for our life. (09-15-19)

Service is at the heart of discipleship. That being said, having the right motivation and understanding of what Jesus has called us to in this discipline is critical to leading a life of service. (09-01-19)
Submisson and self-denial are things we automatically, often without even thinking, push back against. We want our own way and we get blinded to the freedom that submission to Christ offers. We fail to realize that our desire for self-actualization and self-fulfillment are actually found in first practicing submission and self-denial. Check out this sermon from this past Sunday. James realizes that life isn't always easy. He also knows we have a tendency to run or give up when things get hard. This can be especially true for the society we live in today. James encourages the church that patience in suffering is the only way forward for the follower of Jesus. (08-04-19)
the Bible mentions money and possessions over 800 times. Why? Because of how tempting it is to worship money over God and the realization that the more you have, the harder it can be to stay the course and follow after Jesus. These are serious, heavy words, but also encouraging and freeing. (07-28-19)
James draws a clear line when it comes to the danger of using out tongues to judge one another and tear each other down. As long as we speak evil about one another, the world will dismiss our Jesus as just another teacher who lacks the power to change us. (07-14-19)

In this section, James brings up how we fight and argue with one another but how it's really about far more than just that. When we fight, it shows an inward desire that's gone unchecked. Endurance is a powerful word but an even more powerful way of living; especially when trials come our way which they inevitably will. How we endure and stand firm in the faith not only shows our trust in Jesus but shows our love for Him as well. (05.19.19)
Is it wrong to have money? Is it wrong not to have money? There are so many different views and ideologies on this swirling around Christian circles. What we find in James is that it's not about what you have in monetary wealth, it's about knowing what you have in Christ and living accordingly. (05-12-19)
Some things seem to go together easily, while others seem to stand at odds with one another. This week, we look at the interesting relationship between trials (difficulties) and joy. God will not allow false teachers and teachings to go on forever, but He does give the opportunity to repent. By his kindness and grace, even the most wayward heart can find it's way home. (03-24-19)

In this letter to the church in Smyrna, Jesus calls the church to stand firm and not fear the persecution they are facing. Although we are not facing this kind of persecution in the United States, many of our brothers and sisters around the globe are. Some of the hardest and scariest times in our lives come during the waiting on the unknown. When we're helpless and all we can do is wait our mind races, our hearts wander, and doubts grow greater. What we see in Ruth 4 is a beautiful picture of God's faithfulness and we're reminded that Jesus, who has purchased our future is in control of our present. (06-10-18)
It's hard to wait, especially when we're in a difficult situation or season of life. When we are waiting on the unknown it's even more difficult. In this chapter of Ruth we see good intentions mixed with poor methods but we also see God moving in spite of this. Waiting on God is always better than looking back and wishing you had. (06-03-18)
God never stops moving in the midst of the most difficult times in our life. The reality is, sometimes we see His hand very clearly and sometimes we don't. But just as we see here in chapter 2 of Ruth, in God there is always hope. (05-27-18)
Naomi has lost a lot. She's lost her husband and her two sons and she's grown bitter. She's allowed what's happened to become who she is. She has literally taken on a new identity...bitter. In Christ, you are not your circumstance; your pain, your past, your success, a label. In Christ, your identity is a beloved son or daughter. (05-20-18)
What does it mean to be a godly women? There are many ideas and suggestions, but today we look at Proverbs 31 through the lens of Ruth to see what this does and doesn't look like. (05-13-18)
Going through difficulty and pain is never easy and it's only harder when you go through it alone. After the fallout, we see how God uses Ruth to show Naomi kindness in the middle of the crisis and how that points to Jesus and the kindness He shows us. (05-06-18)
How do I trust God when chooses not to do what I know He's able to do? This is one of our biggest struggles as Christians. For all of us, the unthinkable, the unwanted, the unexpected will happen. There are many who know about Jesus and many who have and will use Jesus to their own ends. What Jesus himself is very clear on is that only a real relationship with Him as savior and Lord matters in the end. (04-15-18)
Beware of false prophets. Yes, it's easier than you think to follow a wolf in sheep's clothing. There are people all around us that may look like they're speaking or standing for the truth but in reality are just looking for their next meal. How do we avoid following or falling into their trap? We love sharing good news and there's no greater news than the gospel of Jesus. That our savior overcame sin and death by overcoming the grave and offers us new life in His life that was raised. Come, see! Jesus is alive! (04-01-18)

What is it that keeps us from bringing our questions, our struggles, our concerns, to God? Each and every day there are areas in our lives where we need help but instead of going to God we go it alone. Jesus has a better way. (03-18-18)
We are tempted to judge others daily...probably even minute to minute. How dangerous is this practice when it becomes a regular part of our lives? What we see clearly through Jesus teaching is that Judging blinds us to grace. (03-11-18)
Anxiety is something many struggle with on a daily basis, and for all of us is a temptation. What should we do with our anxious hearts and mind? Where do we go? What's the solution? Hear these words of Jesus. (03-04-18)

Jesus isn't looking for good works if they come from a wicked heart. He is crystal clear when it comes to HOW we give and it's all about the motive. If it's about the need for praise, keep the works. (02-04-18)
As a church we stand and will always stand for life. We believe that every life begins in the womb and that no one has the right to take a life. Are we pro birth, yes. Are we also pro all of life, absolutely. Every single person has been made in the image of God and therefore has value and purpose. (01.28.18)
Not only does God care and pastors care, but we have been called to care for one another inside and outside of the church family. What should this look like? To answer that we jump into I Corinthians 12 to see what the Apostle Paul has to say. (01-21-18)
What should the church expect from their pastors? Care! This doesn't just mean being there in a crisis, as we see in Acts 20, it means being present accessible and truly knowing the sheep while feeding, protecting, and sacrificing for them. Our example is Jesus and the bar is set high. (01-14-17)
As we celebrate our 3rd year together as a church family we go back to our mission: enjoying Jesus, loving people, making disciples. This is what we're all about but the question we want to answer in this year's re-focus series is how? How do we best live this out? The answer...with care. Care that begins with God. (01-07-18)
This Christmas Eve we celebrate the promise of peace that has come to our world. Not the promise of peace in the way we might think; no more wars, illness, sadness, or loss, but a great much deeper peace the comes through knowing Jesus and His love. A peace between man and God brought through the perfect sacrifice of a perfect son who came humbly, in the darkness of night, to bring a great light. The light of peace. (12-24-17)
Why is joy worth so much more than happiness? Why does God constantly point to the importance of being filled with Joy? Unlike happiness, joy isn't dependent on our circumstances and goes much deeper, to what we KNOW. How do you find and hold onto Joy? You allow Jesus and His promises to find and hold onto you. What kind of love has God promised us? It's not a love that simply tolerates, it's not a love that comes and goes, and it's not a love that grows weary or looks out for its own interests. It's a special love, a unique love, it's an enduring love. (12-10-17)
How has God kept His promises to us? This is what we're looking at this year for Advent, "A Promise Kept." We start this week with the "Hope" of a coming Messiah, one who would come for His people to seek and to save. (12-03-17)
Loving people who love us is a given, but what about people who don't like us? What about people who clearly against us? Jesus turns cultural norms upside down when he says we should not only love our enemies, but should go as far as to pray for them...oh yeah, and "be perfect." How is this possible? Only through Jesus. (11-26-17)
When someone takes advantage or intentionally hurts us, we should get even or at least see justice taken, right? In this section of the Sermon on The Mount Jesus paints a very different picture. One that wouldn't be popular with culture but is crucial for Jesus' disciples. (11-19-17)
Is it really a big deal to break promises or things we swear by? Or, does it go a lot deeper than that? What we see in this section of the Sermon on The Mount is Jesus is much more concerned with a value that's depleting...integrity. (11-12-17)
What does God have to say about divorce? In this part of the sermon on the mount we get a clear perspective on a very challenging and sometime muddy issue. (11-05-17)
Sexual sin is an epidemic in our culture and one that gets brushed away far too easily. Adultery and lust has the power to destroy families, spouses, and dehumanize at the same time. It's not what God wants for you but it will be a fight against the flesh. (10-29-17)
This week Jesus stuns the crowd by making it clear that He hasn't come to blow up the law to but fulfill it and affirm it's importance. What does that mean for us? Where is our hope found in these words of Jesus? (10-15-17)
What does it mean to be "salt" and "light?" Why does Jesus paint this picture of the life of a disciple? For those who are followers of Jesus, we have a clear purpose in this world, even if it gets distorted through cultural norms or trends, and it's not to glorify ourselves but the one who made us. What does it mean to live the Christian life? This is exactly what Jesus answers in these first 12 verses of His sermon on the mount. As we walk through this passage and the entire series what becomes incredibly clear is that living the Christian life the way God intends is incredibly counter-cultural. (10-01-17)
In our final week of "The Mission" series we look at making disciples. This is what we believe God has ultimately called us to as a church and a people; to follow hard after Jesus and help others do the same. (09-24-17)
Loving people is a HUGE part of our mission at Redemption. Today we look at the account of The Good Samaritan and how Jesus loved us and in turn have the amazing opportunity to love others out of a response to Him. (09-17-17)

Can you go too far for God to welcome you back? Can you outrun grace? These are the uncomfortable questions we like to avoid but still pop into our minds especially when we've blown it or have taken a long walk (maybe years) away from God to do our own thing. Here's the good news we find in this passage; as long as you have breathe in your lungs, repentance and acceptance are just as available as they've ever been to whoever, whenever. (09-03-17)
Forgivness and reconciliation are two words that are much easier to say than to live out. In Philemon, Paul goes right at the heart of the gospel as He addresses a friend and calls him to reflect on his own heart. (08-27-17)
Does God really want us to bring our complaints and anger to Him? The answer is yes, because He wants a relationship with the real us, not a "proper" version. In this Psalm Asaph does just that and God not only hears him but works on His heart. (08-20-17)
Where do you go when your strength is spent? When life becomes overwhelming? Whether it's in a relationship, your job, day to day challenges, etc. In Psalm 71, David is in this place but he doesn't run in vein, he runs to God as his refuge. (08-13-17)
90% of civilians don't act when someone is in need of CPR. What about when it goes beyond physical life and into the eternal? How much do we care? At what lengths will we go to give those who are far from Jesus a fighting chance at life? Psalm 53 is a reality check and an urgent call, not just to those who don't believe in Christ, but to the church to act. (08-06-17)
Have you ever asked God, "How Long?" How long will this suffering last? How long will this tough season on life continue? How long? In Psalm 13, David doesn't take time for niceties, he simply asks God how long and if he's been forgotten. Whether you've been there, are there, or will be there, there's hope found in Jesus. Is there something you've become too comfortable with that isn't life giving but life taking? In Psalm 1 we see two paths, one leading to life and one leading to death. We also see the reality that when we underestimate the power of sin and its abilities, we overestimate our own and forfeit the joy we really desire. (07-23-17)
Have you ever felt like you've been forgotten by God? Have you ever wondered how much He really cares about and is involved in your life? In Psalm 121 we get a beautiful reminder of God as our "keeper" and the reality that he hasn't forgotten us and never will. (07-09-17)
In Psalm 150 we see a final call for everything that has breathe to give praise to God the creator, to Jesus our savior, to the Holy Spirit our helper. So what does it mean to truly "praise the Lord?" (07-16-17)
Sometimes we think of repentance as a punishment when really it's the way of freedom for sinful people before a holy, perfect God. What does true repentance look like? In Psalm 51 we get a raw, honest answer from David and a window into the gospel. (07-02-17)
We are jumping into the Psalms this summer! In this Psalm of praise from David we see several practical ways that he enjoyed his God and King and it leads us to ask the question, "Do I really enjoy Jesus?" (06-25-17)

At the heart of generosity is grace. Our generosity stems from the grace that God has shown us through the most generous gift of all; Jesus. When this grace saturates our heart, it produces generosity throughout our life.
True freedom comes with real responsibility. As Paul wraps up his letter to the Galatians he gives them some very clear and very practical instructions on how to re-build their foundation through relationships with one another. Do you have broken relationships, strained relationships, unhealthy relationships that need to be re-built? What does this look like in the context of grace? (06-04-17)
Everyday there's a constant battle between our flesh and being led by the Spirit for every Christian. Although we've been freed through Christ, we still fight against sin and our own fleshly desires. In this section, Paul draws a clear contrast between being led by the Spirit and giving into the flesh. (05-28-17)
Are you living in reality? This is a pretty important question and how you answer it or even more importantly, live in or out of it, has real consequences. Some of the consequences might be small, but some are very big and weighty. If Christ has set you free, are you living free? (05-21-17)
The opportunity and ability to pursue and acquire what you desire most without constraint or limitation. This or something similar would probably be the definition you would get from a lot of people in a lot of places, but what if this isn't true freedom? What if we've been operating from a definition that could actually enslave us more than set us free? Here, from a unique example, Paul gives us a better definition. (05-07-17)
Saying difficult things isn't something we look forward to; especially when its to people we love. But, saying difficult things that are true is one of the very signs of real, devoted, caring love; no matter the cost. In this passage, Paul's concern for a people he loves won't allow him to stay silent as he sees them slipping back into some really dangerous beliefs. (04-30-17)
There are a lot of voices that try to tell us who we are, wether we do or don't measure up, our true identity. In reality, for those who accept the grace of Jesus by faith, there's only one voice that speaks absolute truth when it comes to who you now that you've been adopted and that's God the Father. Here's what he has to say about you. (04-23-17)
We believe that Jesus came to earth, lived a perfect life, and went to the cross bearing the full weight of our sins and suffering a real death. We also believe that death could not hold Him, and that He overcame sin, death, and the grave. We have hope because we don't worship a dead man. Our King is risen! (04-16-17)
We struggle to depend on others. We live in a society that praises independence and going it alone. But in Galatians 3, Paul makes it incredibly clear that when it comes to entering the family of God as sons and daughters, you can't work your way in; it's only through faith. Not only that, because of God's promise you also never need to worry about being kicked out, forgotten or abandon. (04-09-17)
Promises are important, especially when they come directly from God. Paul has made it really clear that "The Law" condemns us when we try to follow it to earn a relationship with God. Following the law is simply not enough to save and never would be. So where's our hope? Faith in Jesus; the only one able to provide the promise of new life. (04-02-17)
It's easy to lose our way. It's easy to start on one path and find ourself on another. It's easy to question, second guess, or just get lost along the way. And what need is to be reminded of true north and re-centered on what's true. In the first part of Galatians 3, Paul pleads from three angles with the church to remember the true gospel, a gospel of faith. (03-26-17)
In this passage Paul goes to Peter face to face to offer correction. This might seem extreme, but not when it comes to something as important as the gospel. Faith alone in Jesus is our justification. Not our works, not our best day, not our best attempt. Unless we understand this, freedom will be choked out by fear and grace is quickly forgotten. (03-19-17)
Is your life unified with the message and the mission of the gospel? The apostle Paul spent the first chapter of Galatians defending the gospel and his authority, no he turns to defending the unity of the gospel among him and the other apostles. That when it comes down to it, there aren't multiple message and multiple missions, but one gospel alone with massive implications; the gospel of Jesus. (03-12-17)
Jesus can take anyone from anywhere with any past and completely change their life. This is the power of the TRUE gospel of Jesus. That's exactly what we see in this passage and the life of Paul the apostle. Once a murderer or Christians, now he's fighting to get the good news of the gospel out to the people. (03-05-17)
This week we opened up the book of Galatians and right from the start we see Paul's great concern for this church; that a false gospel had started to spread and people were turning away from the grace they once knew to be true. Everyday there are false gospels all around us, trying to convince us that Jesus alone isn't enough. Some are easy to spot, but some are incredibly deceptive. Don't be deceived. There is only ONE true gospel and it's Jesus +/- nothing. (02-26-17)
Last week we looked at how God gave good work prior to the curse, but how with the curse of sin, our view on work can become really distorted. This week we focus on the effect of the gospel in our work and through our work. (02-19-17)
It's easy to buy into the idea that what we do for a living doesn't really matter that much to God, but that's absolutely not true. Your work matters greatly to God for many reasons. Today we open up the topic by looking at the good work that was given, cursed, and redeemed through Jesus. (02-12-17)
What is the heart of God? What does God care about? Throughout the book of Jonah we've seen the heart of a rogue prophet who only seems to care about himself and we've seen the heart of a gracious God who not only cares about Jonah but cares about EVERYONE, including the foreign, gentile people of Nineveh. People, people are on the heart of God and should be on the heart of His church. (02-05-17)
Is God really able and wiling to save anyone who will turn to Him? In Jonah chapter 3 we get a clear answer: YES! The people of Nineveh who had rebelled and rebelled and rebelled against God in horrific ways turn from their evil, turn to God, and God does something amazing. He saves them and shows this incredible grace! No one is too far from this grace. (01-29-17)
As we see here in this chapter of Jonah, it's possible to have great faith and appreciation toward God and still misunderstand grace. This is something we wrestle with all the time, either believing the lie that somehow we deserve or can earn grace or that we're outrun God's grace. Jonah is still in process just like us, but even so, God show's incredible mercy. (01-22-17)
Have you ever run from God? Are you running from Him now? As we open up Jonah we find a rogue prophet who is willing to go anywhere and pay anything to avoid what God is asking Him to do and at the same time we see a powerful, completely in control, just, but incredibly gracious and loving God. As we enter our second year as a church our mission is clear: To Enjoy Jesus, Love People, and Make Disciples. But if we do this and as we do this, what do we hope/pray to see? What picture will we please with God to paint into reality on the canvas of Redemption? As we live out our mission, our vision is this: To see the gospel go deeper into the life of our church and wider into our neighborhoods. (01-08-17)
Resolutions are the norm for New Years, but what about reliance? What if we made it a point to start this year off by truly seeking God and asking Him to lead us, guide us, and motivate us in 2017? (01-01-17)
Peace is something that can seem much more like a dream than a reality. We look around and we see war, hate, conflict, and tension. So, is peace really possible? Yes, real and lasting peace is possible, but it's not found in the right circumstances, it's found in the right savior. (12-18-16)
Jesus came to bring great joy! So why is it that we aren't always joyful? Understanding exactly how this "joy" came about, what Jesus has really offered, and now where we stand with Him if we know Him is so important to understanding joy. (12-11-16)
At this time of year more than any other, we are consumed relationally; thinking about the people in our lives, no longer in our lives, or relationships that have become distant. It's easy to assume we fully understand love; what it is to receive love and offer love, but maybe, just maybe it would be goof to re-think love. And what better place than Matthew 1 and the Father's sending of His son in a lowly way, to a lowly couple, to save a lowly world. (12-04-16)
Hope is something everyone wants and needs. This was just as true thousands of years ago before the first coming of Christ as it is today. Everyone is placing their hope in something, but is it the right thing? Is what you're placing your hope in today able to save you tomorrow? When it comes to God, He has been faithful throughout and all of His promises have been fulfilled, the greatest being the coming of Jesus, our greatest hope. (11-27-16)
In this stand alone sermon we look at gratitude and why it's so important to the Christian life and our discipleship. As those who have been given so much through Jesus, we should be the most thankful and grateful people around. In Luke 17 we see a great example of the type of gratitude we should offer Jesus as those who have been healed. (11-20-16)
Your politics won't save you, your country won't save you, money won't save you, good health won't save you. Why? Because it's Jesus alone that "holds everything together." So if you've been placing your hope in anything and everything other than Him, maybe it's time to come back to the ONE thing, the one person, the one God, that can't be bought, that can't be built, and can't be destroyed. His name, Jesus. This is above all else, is our hope. (11-13-16)
We live in a very fast paced, individualistic city that's growing at a faster rate than ever before. Over 86,000 people moved to Seattle this past year alone. In a city with so many people, knowing others is a given right? The sad reality is deeper relationships and meaningful relationships are much more rare than common. So let's slow down and really know others. (11-06-16)
Why do we pray? How do we pray? And why is it far to easy to forget about prayer in the busyness of our lives? Chances are we talk to many people throughout the course of a day, but how often do we talk to God, and more than that, as a personal Father who loves to speak with His children? (10-30-16)
We live life at a 90mph, packed calendar, coming and going, 2 minute meal, 70 hr workweek, update Facebook every 3 minutes, over-committed weekends, break neck pace...we're busy. And what's scary is we often wear this busyness like a badge of honor when it reality, maybe it's more like a hospital bracelet. What does it look like to slow down and specifically this week, listen to God? (10-23-16)
The mission of the church is...? Is it great programming, diversity, service in the community, growing the number of people that come on Sunday, a marketing campaign? Understanding the mission that Jesus has given the church is absolutely, 100% critical to being the type of church Jesus has called us to be. And although there are a lot of ideas about "mission", when you listen to Jesus, His mission for us becomes incredibly clear. (10-16-16)
Why is understanding what the church is and what it isn't so important? Because if we misunderstand this we'll never truly grasp how great a gift and how critical our need is for genuine, loving, community. You were made for it. At Redemption, we are community people. (10-09-16)
We are all worshipping something. The big question is, what? When it comes to enjoying Jesus, this is a lot easier said than done. There are so many things competing for your enjoyment and to be the ultimate object of your desires and affections, but when these other "gods" don't hold up comes fear, anxiety, doubt, shame, and the list goes on. So what's the solution? We find it in worship. (10-02-16)
Have you ever thought of yourself as a theologian? That's only a title kept for guys that spend all day in a library with 20+ years of theological training, and 5 degrees right? Not so fast. As we look at God's word and look at what "theology" is all about what we find is that all of Christ's church are called to be theologians. So, at Redemption, We are theologians. (09-25-16)
Why should we serve? How should we serve? Who should we serve? Ultimately, it all goes back to Jesus, who came and turned everything on it's head. A king that came to serve, not be served. Through Jesus, why, how, and who are all answered. At Redemption, we are servants. (09-18-16)
Foundations are critical and having the wrong one is incredibly dangerous. As a church, our foundation is the gospel: the good news of Jesus. This is where we stand in good and bad, and where our motivation for everything we do and just as importantly, "how" we do it comes from. As we enjoy Jesus, love people, and make disciples, we always need to remember, we are good news people. This is our beginning, middle, and end. (09-11-16)
It's so easy to hear the word "fear" and immediately jump to thoughts like scared or terrified. Proverbs talks a ton about the fear of the Lord, but not in a terrifying or scared way, instead, in a reverent, awestruck, loving way. As we wrap up our summer Proverbs series, this is a great place to do it. (-9-04-16)
When we think about what money can provide, we usually go to one of two places, freedom or security. Proverbs has a lot to say about this topic but at the bedrock of an appropriate view and understanding of money and wisdom is the idea of generosity. The generosity that came with God the Father, the Son, and the Spirit first being generous to us. (08-28-16)
What is a real friend? Are you a real friend? It's alarming when asked, how many people say they have zero "real" friends. It's easy to underestimate the power of real friends in your life and the importance of being a real friend to others but this is something Jesus not only cares about but lived out during His earthly ministry. So what does Proverbs have to say about friendship? (08-21-16)
The issue of justice forces us to face the reality that injustice is very real; in our communities, in our country, and in the world. This has been the case since sin entered the world and is not something God shows passivity towards. God is 100% just; not only in the sense of crime and punishment, but in how he sees, thinks about, and treats people, and as Christians and humans, he's called us to be the same. (08-14-16)
Humility, something we all would like to say we're filled with and live out everyday. Unfortunately, humility has an enemy called pride; that comes in many forms, shapes, and sizes. It's a lot easier than we'd like to admit to be filled with pride and arrogance, but a lot more challenging to live a life of humility. Why? Because on our own, it's impossible. If you really want to live humbly, it's time to stop looking down on others and start looking up to Jesus. (08-07-16)
Emotions, we all have them. And these emotions comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some can get us into a lot of trouble if run wild, while others can be used to show love and care. So, what do we do with our emotions and how much authority should these feelings have in our life? If these are God given, what does God want us to understand about them? (07-31-16)
The average American speaks 700 times a day. We speak far more than we do anything else in our day to day lives, but how much do we really think about the words that role off of our tongue? In Proverbs, God makes it clear that our words have the power to bring death or life. Your words matter and they aren't just words, they speak from a much deeper place. (07-24-16)
We are all prone to vices. Whether it's anger, envy, sloth, price, or another, this is something all of us wrestle with. So how do we fight back? How do we move away from vices which seek to destroy us and toward God who truly loves us? The good news is, there's good news! (07-17-16)
Proverbs isn't a book of hard and fast rules, it's loving counsel from Jesus to a people prone to choose folly and train wreck. While the world says "live and learn" through Proverbs, God is saying "learn and live." In this first week we looked at two houses with the same invitation but offering two completely different things. Which are you choosing to take up residence in, wisdom or folly?
Jesus is calling followers, not fans. It's not enough just to know about Jesus; a true disciple's relationship with their savior is deeply intimate. When we come to know Jesus and begin growing in Him, our desires change, and our appetite for the things of God increase. So, are you fan, or a follower? (07-03-16)
Questions are important. They can help reveal our true heart, our motives, our understanding. Questions are used in powerful ways and can go deeper than we realize. Peter claimed to be a faithful follower no matter what but then denied Jesus and fled; now Jesus has some important questions for Peter and important questions for us when it comes to be a faithful follower, as John records these final verses and final encounter in His beautiful gospel. Sometimes our life, our circumstances, our faith can seem out of balance, upside down, or we just feel lost. And at these times we need to be reminded of what's true and what's not; but reminded in a gracious, loving, compassionate way by someone who truly cares. That's exactly what we see in this passage as Jesus interacts with His disciples post resurrection for the third time. (06-19-16)
Jesus has appeared to the disciples but Thomas was't there to witness it first hand. He refuses to believe unless he can see it for himself. When it comes to faith we often put a heavier emphasis on the quantity than the object. So we ask the question, not only do we have faith, but is our faith being placed on the right object, Jesus? (06-12-16)
Jesus is alive! This is good news, this is great news! Without the resurrection, there is no forgiveness, there is no grace, there is no hope for eternal life. Not only should this be great news to us just as it was to Mary, John, Peter and the other disciples of Jesus, but it's news that MUST be shared. (06-05-16)
If Jesus really died what does that mean for you? Ever feel like God is distant, your faith is dry or feels boring, or you fear or just choose not to share that your are a follower of Jesus? Or have you ever wondered if there's more to your life, a greater purpose than what you're living for? Jesus died so you could live, what needs to die in your life so Jesus can live in and through you? (05-29-16)
We've arrived at The Cross. Jesus has spent three years doing ministry that has led to this; taking on our sin, our shame, our pride, etc., on a cruel cross and enduring a cruel death. John and four women remain with Jesus, while the other disciples have fled. At the core, where do we stand firm and where do we flea? (05-22-16)
There are multiple things competing for "kingship" in your life on a daily basis. Whether it's approval, wealth, career, relationships, shame, popularity, power, etc., is it really worthy of that position? As we open up John 19 we see two core issues that prevented people from allowing Jesus to be their king and we see why Jesus is absolutely worthy to be our king. (05-15-16)
If you live for people's acceptance, you'll die from their rejection. In the second part of this mini two-part series inside of the Gospel of John, we look at Peter's denial of Jesus, His best friend who he said he would never turn his back on. What is it that brought people to this place and what does Jesus want to show us in the midst of it? (05-08-16)
What comes to mind when you think about God? This is a critical question and will shape everything about the way you live, the way you love, and the way you see people. In this amazing account, a prostitute who Jesus has forgiven of sin comes to worship her savior and as whispers start to swirl, Jesus cuts through all of it with grace and truth. (05-01-16)
If you want to know more about who Jesus REALLY is, look at the way His trial goes down and more importantly look at what He allows to happen; not for His own sake, but for the sake of the world that was calling for his death. Jesus love isn't contractual, flighty, or self-seeking, it's unconditional to the very end. (04-24-16)
Our culture places a high value on convenience & fairness and so do we. Are these things bad in and of themselves? No. But what happens when we make these the rule or guiding factor for our relationships or how we view and interact with people? What Jesus shows us as He faces an inconvenient & unfair arrest is that He is compelled by something greater. (04-17-16)
Our lives are meant to be lived with and for a purpose. We were not created generically which means we are not intended to live generically. As we listen to the prayer of Jesus to His father we are reminded of Jesus' purpose in coming to earth and pointed to our own purpose in the hands of the creator. (04-10-16)
Peace is defined as a lack of disturbance. Anyone's hopes disturbed, expectations, desires, plans, health, everyday life feel disturbed? We don't live in a peaceful world and the circumstances of our lives are not always peaceful. So, is is possible to be at peace even when life or the world is not? In this passage of John 16, we get a clear answer from Jesus. (04-03-16)
Through Jesus being raised to life we have been raised to life! Jesus took what we deserved to the cross and put death to death by overcoming the grave, overcoming sin, and offering us new life. This isn't a gimmick, this isn't a fable, it may sound too good to be true, but it actually is. This is the good news of Easter! (03-27-16)
If there was an infomercial that offered to take all of our sorrow and transform it into joy, the phone's would be ringing off the hook and it would be the greatest selling product of all time. But, truth be told, you can't buy joy, you can't manufacture it, but you can experience it through a relationship with Jesus as we see in John 16:16-24 as Jesus continue to prepare His disciples for the cross. We all need help. We need help in our relationships, in our struggles, with the future, and the list goes on and on. In the disciples greatest time of need, Jesus offers some amazing help. But do we recognize it, do we understand it, or have we forgotten the helper. Gospel-centered is not "Jesus only." And unless we see the Holy Spirit as equally great, we won't see God as fully good. As Jesus gets closer to the cross He makes it clear to His disciples that many will oppose them because they choose to follow Him. In this last section of John 15 we find Jesus challenging us to abide, even through opposition, knowing that our hope is in something far greater than just this lifetime. (03-06-16)
How often do we really ask the question, "am I a good friend?" Probably not that much. With so much going on in our own lives, we can easily miss the importance of being a good friend to others. What we see in our second week of "abide" is that Jesus cares about friendship, demonstrates it, and compels us to do the same as it will produce good fruit. (02-28-16)
At our core we have incredibly strong self-reliant tendencies. We think we know more than we know, can do more than we can do, can solve all of our own problems, can earn salvation or lose it, and the list goes on. But honestly, how's it working out? In John 15 Jesus graciously offers His disciples another option...the opportunity to abide. (02-21-16)
As Jesus prepares to go to the cross, he continues to care for and encourage the disciples and promises them a helper. We can often focus all of our attention on Jesus or God the Father and neglect to remember that the Holy Spirit is equally God and equally important to our discipleship and overall life. (02-14-16)
Where do we go and what do we do when we suffer? There are a few thing that are inevitable, and one of those is that in our lives, we will face difficult seasons and circumstances. During Jesus final meal with his disciples, after 3 yrs of intimate ministry together he now says, "i'm leaving...and where I'm going you can't follow." As you image the pain of hearing this news, lets look at how Jesus comforts them. (02-07-16)
If something is authentic, there's going to be proof of it. When it comes to following Jesus, there's always proof of a true disciple, and as we hear from Jesus is John 13, that proof is a deep, heartfelt love for God and love for people. (01-31-16)
There are a lot of ideas floating around about what it means to really be a follower of Jesus or what salvation really looks like. As we open up John 13 and Jesus predicts His betrayal at the hands of Judas, one of His followers, we get a clear picture that a genuine relationship with Jesus isn't about good works, going to church, giving money, or even serving...it requires something only Jesus can give. It requires real heart change. (01-24-16)
As one of Jesus' final acts with His disciples before going to the cross, He washes their feet. It's rare and unbelievable that a king, let alone the king of the world and Son of God would humble himself like this. Jesus shows us and challenges us on what it means to serve, what it means to love, and how His love in our life changes everything. (01-17-16)
Redemption church is 1 year old and we have a lot to celebrate! Jesus has been incredibly faithful to us and as we look back on all that we've witnessed over this past year, it's just as important that we look ahead. We want to be a purpose-filled church that doesn't stray from what Jesus has called us to. As we prepare for Christmas, first let's look at the promise of the one who the Father would send into the world, taking on flesh, literally coming down to be with us. His name is Jesus, and without him, we have no hope or reason to celebrate. (12-13-25)
Finals words carry a lot of power and purpose. Whether it's words of love, wisdom, care, or concern, the final words of people that love you shout out, "Don't forget these things!" So in Jesus final words of His public ministry, what is He pleading with you not to forget, to always remember, and to hold onto? (12-06-15)
No one wants to experience pain and suffering, but the reality is we all will. It's a sign that things aren't the way they're supposed to be. As we encounter Jesus in this section of John 12 and the crowd of people, we get an insight into something incredibly important; purpose propels us through our pain, just as Jesus' purpose did the same. Do you really believe that God could love you; that He does love you? On Sunday our good friend Alex Early opened up Luke 15 and explained how God's love is more powerful and personal than we will ever fully realize, and is never wavering for those who He has adopted as His children. (11-22-15)

If we're all being honest, we struggle with giving up control. When it comes to a relationship with Jesus it's the same, "you can lead as long as ____". And when things enter our life that we don't have control over it can produce frustration, anger, and anxiety, none of which Jesus wants for you. So what's the solution? We see it very clearly in this passage. (11-15-15)
In the gospel of John so far, Jesus has healed the lame, the blind, turned water into wine, just to name a few. In John 11 Jesus shows his power and authority over death by raising Lazarus. Ryan unpacks what this means for us. (11-08-15)
We all want security, but where are we running to find it and what are we trying to do to maintain it. Better yet, what if there's a better way to find the security we really long for? In john 10 as Drew unpacks verses 22-42 we clearly see that there is and it's not found in a thing, it's found in a someone named Jesus. (11-01-15)
What is the good life? We hear about it all the time and it's what everyone seems to be striving for but what does it really look like and how do we live it? The first half of John 10 as Jesus reveals more about who He is we start to get a better picture of what the good life, the best life is really all about and where it can be found. (10-25-15)
Some of the most difficult times in our lives are when we can't see what's in front of us and we're not where we want to be. It's at these times that our faith is put to the test. What we see in John 9 as Jesus gives sight to a man born blind is that trusting in the sight giver is better than trusting in the sightseer. Remember who allows you to say, "I once was blind, but now I see." (10-18-15)
Who has authority over your life? In this passage of John 8, Jesus is essentially put on trial for the claims He has made about who He is and what He has come to do. It leaves us with the same decision to make that the people had to make who heard his words thousands of years ago; to receive Him or reject him. (10-11-15)
What does freedom mean to you? Would you say you are living free? In John 8 we look at what it really means for Jesus to set us free to be God's children. (10-04-15)
What is the light of your world? To answer this, think about your life. What would leave you feeling scared or hopeless if it went dim? You career, your relationships, your bank account? Jesus offers something far better as we see in this passage; He offers himself, a light that can never be extinguished. (09-27-15)
Foundations are critical; not only for houses but for our lives. What your life is built upon effects every relationship, your ability to love, to forgive, and to fight sin. What does Jesus do when religious leaders bring a woman to him that's been caught in adultery? He gives her a new foundation...of grace! (09-20-15)
On Sunday we jumped back into the gospel of John and in chapter 7 were presented with several questions. What is your authority? What do you thirst for? Is Jesus Savior AND Lord of your life? What we find is that when we are under Jesus' authority, we also experience our greatest joy. (9-13-15)
The right pursuit leads to fulfilling the right purpose. At Redemption we believe we have been called to enjoy Jesus, love people, and make disciples in order to see our vision of Jesus becoming non-ignorable in Seattle, the Puget Sound, and beyond. When we fall into sin often our first thought is to go into hiding. This seems like the safer bet but leads us down a very dangerous and destructive path. Being known, being vulnerable, being honest about our sin, our struggles, and our insecurities is crutial in our relationship with God and others. As we look at Psalm 51 and David's repentance, it becomes clear that hiding is not the answer. (8-9-15)
The gospel isn't just the starting point, it's not the ABC's of Christianity, it's the A-Z of the Christian life and is meant to be shared. As we look at Psalm 67 it brings up a huge question for us to think about, "as you breathe in the gospel, who do you need to share it with?" (08-02-2015)
Where do you go for safety when storms come in your life, when the world feels like it's crumbling around you? In Psalm 46 we look at what God not only offers but promises to those who are seeking safety and refuge. (07-25-15)
"How did I get here?". "How did it come to this?". When we underestimate the power of sin and its ability, we overestimate our own and find ourselves asking these questions. Sin seeks to destroy everything in its path and is never satisfied. No one wants to destroy their lives and God absolutely doesn't want this for you. In this text, we see a much better way to life as opposed to death. (7-19-15)
Are you a professor or a beholder? When you think about God is your first thought, "what can you do for me?" or is it to behold Him and stand in wonder of Him? This has everything to do with how we respond when trouble comes our way as we see here from David whose life is being threatened, yet He stands confident inside the grip of His God. (7-12-15)
We all have wounds from our past that come in different forms. Instead of trying to cover them up, ignore them, or bandage them on our own, there's a better way. As Drew walks us through Psalm 113 what we see is amazing and incredibly comforting. Because of God's greatness He has you, and through His goodness, He'll heal you. (7-5-15)

What if your way isn't the right way? And if it's not would you humble yourself to whatever the right way is? We're constantly having to ask ourselves this question; in our marriage, in our career, for our future, with our time and money. As Drew leads us through John 6:41-59 we face a somewhat offensive but equally gracious question, "Would you rather have your way, or His (Jesus) life?" (6-14-15)
If you've ever tried to fill a bucket with water that had a leak, you know it quickly becomes tiring and frustrating because no matter how much you keep putting it, it's never enough. In our lives, whether we're running after happiness or trying to fill a void, no matter how much we accumulate or how much we do, it never seems to be enough. As we encounter the words of Jesus in John 6:22-40 with Drew, we quickly find that accumulation doesn't mean satisfaction. Your soul longs for satisfaction that can only truly be met by one source, the Bread of Life, Jesus. (6-07-15)
Fear is always looking to steal something whether it's our time, our thoughts, our freedom, or ultimately our joy. Our lives are filled with needs. Needs that often produce anxiety, stress, frustration, and concern; especially when the DIY method for meeting those needs isn't working out. So, what does it look like to trade in the anxiety for peace? Do you want to get well? What a simple yet incredibly important question. We all have areas of our life that we either want to see change or need to see change. The thought of "getting well" in this area of our life is much different than actually "getting well." We all have times in our lives where we find ourselves desperate; desperate for change, desperate for healing, desperate for answers. When desperations comes, where do we go? Ryan opens up John 4:46-53 and explains what desperation, faith, and Jesus have in common through the lens of a desperate father in need of a miracle.
Shame is a prison that wants desperately to hold us captive and grace is the only true key to freedom. Drew shares how Jesus scandalous interaction with a scandalous woman in John 4 makes clear the greatest enemy of shame and our greatest hope, Jesus scandalous grace.
