Annabelle has seen it all, having been awarded a Nuffield Scholar to conduct her research on the trade and participate in a diverse range of tours across the globe. Annabelle talks candidly about the 2011 cattle live export crisis, shines a light on Australian privileges and highlights why the live export trade exists with a particular focus on people and markets.
Annabelle says, "That's the beauty of being an Australian; we have the choice and position to have such opinions. But I can't help but assume the priorities of society change with the comfort of a full stomach and a wet throat. How many of you will be eating a Christmas ham next week? Our podcast is back with a Christmas special. Listen to one of our newest Livestock Leaders alumni from Australian Pork Limited, Luke Leyson, as he walks us through how to know the meat you are purchasing is local to Australia.
Luke has been awarded the title of 'World's Best Sausage' but it didn't just fall into this lap. Luke started scurbbing floors at the local butcher when he was 13, he commenced his apprenticiship when he was 17 and he is now a butcher located in Adelaide with a global name for himself. Luke is heading back to the World Butcher Challenge hoping for another podium finish for the Australian Team.
Elle Moyle is a District Veterinarian for Agriculture Victoria and owner/operator of prime lamb and beef property in south west Victoria. Elle has been immersed in agriculture her whole life and has had a wide range of experience across Australia and overseas, including work in the US and Middle East. In this episode we dive into Elle's story of resilience and ambition, showcasing her passion for Australian agriculture and the importance of sharing your story.
Andy has had a very diverse career, but his one true love is livestock and trucks. He represented livestock carriers in The Livestock Collective's initial project and he has since gone on to become a Livestock Leader. Patrick has ten years of experience working throughout the live export supply chain and comes from a cattle producer background. He currently holds the Vice Chair position for the Young Livestock Exporters Network, an association dedicated to developing cohort of young people involved in live export in to responsible, innovative and forward thinking professionals. Patrick is interested in the ethics of animal production and enjoys overseeing ESCAS operations for Halleen Australasian Livestock Traders where he is able to implement effective animal welfare programs for the cattle they export.
