In today's episode, we're talking about a situation where I was in where I had to work with a client who had severe complex communication difficulties and he had to pass five oral exams. I'm talking to a group of therapists about it and it's interesting to see their point of view as well and but I'm presenting something that I will be presenting at the end of May 2022 to the European speech-language Congress.
I'm really excited about being able to do the talk and it's a short presentation amongst other therapists from different nations, which is exciting and a little bit daunting (if truth be known.)
So I have been asked to go and speak at the European Speech and Language Congress in Salzburg this month, which is a bit scary really and they're about 400 delegates going from all over Europe. And so my talk is about the multifaceted role of an online speech and language therapist with challenging communication disorders. And this is kind of a case of a young man I worked with.

Hello, welcome to the podcast. And today we're talking about how to create a brand for a therapy business. Now, as a speech therapist and I've been working for over 30 years, I don't remember going on any course about branding your business. I went on a course that was supposed to be about setting up the independent practice but I don't remember learning anything about branding but now I know why it is really useful.
In the course, I did learn about different types of businesses and what each one has in common. And one of them is that you need to set yourself up as being different from other therapists. So, if you're going to be doing speech therapy or language therapy, you are going to be different from someone who does cognitive therapy, or behavior therapy, or whatever. And so, you have to think about how your services are different. How do you position yourself against other therapists? And also, you can use the fact that you are different from other therapists to help you get more patients. Because the more patients you have the more money you make. So, that's one of the ways you can help people find you. Now, the next thing that you need to do is set yourself up as being different from the other therapists in your area.
Be true to yourself in business to make it successful.
Having clarity, making connections with others, and being able to communicate your thoughts, ideas, and visions with the world.
This is the most important job you will ever have. Don't let anyone or anything get in the way of your success. Know this about yourself: "You are what you think about all day long." What you think about today will be a direct reflection of your tomorrow.
Bookkeeping is a complex process that involves many different types of accounts and reports. I do have to confess that when I have to submit my tax return to the HMRC, I do feel stressed. Collating my income and expenditure accounts is something I need to do every year with my Accountant but it does freak me out, even though I do it every year and I have been doing it since 2005!
The following features should be included in every website for private practice:
Your homepage is your entry point into your site. It’s the first thing visitors see when they come to your website and it’s where you tell them why they should visit your site. It’s also where you tell them :
- where to find out more about you and your services and how you can help them.
- highlight what your practice is about, who you are and what services you offer.
- tell your readers that they should come back and visit again.
A good homepage is also search engine friendly!
Mind mapping improves learning. Mind maps are good for learning because they help students organize information. They make it easier to remember information because they give order to things.
