Please find part 2 of my conversation with Grace as we continue to discuss mental health, her traumatic experiences living with her stepfather, career conversation, and finally, her paranormal investigation hobby!

Grace's Bio

Hello, my name is Grace. I am 22 years old, and I am from a small rural town in Central Texas. I am writing this today in order to speak to you about mental health- including some of my personal quirks, how my journey began, and how I have matured with my coping mechanisms and techniques. I was officially diagnosed with depression and anxiety at the age of 15, and I have shown traits of pretty severe OCD for my entire life; but that has yet to be officially diagnosed- probably because I've been too afraid to discuss those tendencies in a “professional” setting. If anyone is interested in hearing more about identifying or living with abuse; living with depression or anxiety; working corrections; or just general conversation, please reach out to me.

Did you ever hear the term "helicopter parent"? No worries, I will break it down for you. Colloquially referred to as helicopter parents is a term of overparenting. Parents are overly involved and develop questionable tactics for their children, who can otherwise assume responsibility and autonomy. Let's explore this term and look at both sides of the equation.

In NYC, getting into a competitive middle school is more challenging than getting into Harvard.  It is complicated to navigate the NYC middle school admissions process as it lacks transparency and restricts the number of applications to its elite public schools.

The advantages of attending a screened school are that the school's average size is smaller compared to an unscreened school.  The increased rigor of academic quality and higher-level curriculum, access to learning labs, more options for extracurricular activities, due to a larger school budget and taught by exceptional teachers.

Nicholas Jones will discuss the middle school admissions landscape to simplify the timeline, terminology, and process.

I am super excited to conduct my first interview on the Trivium Dad podcast. I am excited to have my guest Sensei Rean Wisky, owner of Dynamic Martial Art Academy, on the show. Rean and I discussed youth training in the martial arts and the many benefits that are not always obvious to others. As we discussed the practice of martial arts as a viable choice to promote health, both physical and mental, we did not neglect the opposing viewpoints of antisocial behavior and aggressiveness. Lastly, you will get an inside perspective if you are considering enrolling your child in martial arts.

I am so excited to reach the tenth episode mark.  Many podcasts don't make it beyond this point due to the time commitment necessary to create quality content and clean sounding audio.  As a result of this milestone, I'm expressing thanks via giveaways; holiday spirit! I also want to grow my prospective audience-based, so instead of spending advertisement dollars on a big named company, why not give it to one of my listeners.

New York City is enduring one of the most significant challenges in its history.  The COVID-19 pandemic has nullified all of the city's strengths, from tourism, finances, small businesses, nightlife, and culture, and simultaneously amplified its downsides from high rent, crime, and homelessness.  NYC was resilient as it has overcome the 1970s financial crisis, 9/11, and the Great Recession of 2008. As the departure of New Yorkers moving out of the state has exponentially increased, can New York reclaim its former glory as of the greatest city in the world post-pandemic, or has the city lost its luster? Listen now.

The increased use of technology, income disparity, national economy, inflation, student loans, increase rent, and stagnant wages has created a decline in children in urban and rural areas participating in enrichment activities. It is well documented and substantiates by ample academic research the inherent value of having your child engage in sports, music, dance, and art programs.

Enrichment activities offer opportunities for students to learn the values of teamwork, competition, individual and group interactions, physical strength and endurance, competition, and a sense of community. Nicholas Jones will discuss the inequality gap between poor and wealthy families and discuss the advantages of placing your children in an enrichment program.

I hope that there are takeaways for the young men and women starting their adult lives and are facing challenges as they thrive to achieve their goal, whether it is financial, career, or the pursuit of happiness.  That you are not alone, we are all in this together and what you are facing is not insurmountable.
