Today's show is an explanation that we have a NATIONAL not a FEDERALgovernment. The way to return to a federal government requires the firing of all 435 members of the House of Representatives, the 1/3 of the Senators up for reelection, and all incumbents in our state legislatures.

The good news is that the Republican candidates for the state wide offices in the blue state of Virginia; Governor, Lt. Governor, and others won. I made some comments on the ridiculous claims by the Democrats in Virginia that they lost because of racism. Any criticism of the Critical Race Theory is racist according to Democrats. That theory will be a subject of future shows. I also commented on the local city elections here in Hopkins, where the incumbent mayor came in third in a three man election. That is very good news.

There are two ways this can be done; 1) Don't vote for any incumbents 2) Start to repeal laws. We do not have a federal government in Washington, D.C., we have a nationalgovernment. There is a difference.

In honor of this being the 245th anniversary of our Declaration of Independence my talk is about it is both a liberal and a conservative. The preamble to it is very liberal. The idea that all men are created equal in world of hereditary monarchies was extremely radical. The idea that governments existed only with the consent of the governed was an extremely radical. The idea that men had the right to alter, by voting, or abolish their government, by a revolution, was an extremely radical idea. It is the list of grievances in our Declaration that makes it a conservative document. Those grievances are a list of King George III trying to take away the colonist's right of self government.

It was on July 2, 1776 that our Declaration of Independence was passed by the Continental Congress. We celebrate our independence on the 4th of July because the document was engrossed, written on a piece of parchment, on that day. It was not until August 2 that the 56 men signed it. By signing it they were, if we had lost our for independence, signing their own death certificate. When our Founding Fathers did so the committed an act of treason and treason was a capital offense. By coincidence this is the 56th episode of the Senator Hatrack show and an appropriate way to honor the 56 men who signed our Declaration of Independence.

Today, June 21st is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. From now until December 21st, the winter solstice, the days will be shorter. However most of today's talk was about the new legal holiday of Juneteenth. On June 19, 1865 the slaves in Galveston, TX learned that they were and had been freed by the Emancipation Proclamation.

Any discussion of the need to reduce Social Security and Medicare is one that will upset a lot of people. Why will this article upset people? Those government programs now have an unfunded liability of $106,000,000,000,000! The current total private net worth of the entire country is about $51,000,000,000,000. The amount our government has promised to pay current and future retirees twice as much as the total current wealth of every man, woman, child in the country. Taxing the rich is not going to pay off that debt, that unfunded liability.
Unfortunately the only way Congress has of paying for any government program by raising taxes. To pay for the unfunded liabilities of Social Security and Medicare will require a huge tax increase! Is anybody ready for The 81% Tax Increase?
“To summarize, we see that taxpayers are on the hook for Social Security and Medicare by these amounts: Social Security, 1.3% of GDP; Medicare part A, 2.8% of GDP; Medicare part B, 2.8% of GDP; and Medicare part D, 1.2% of GDP. This adds up to 8.1% of GDP. Thus federal income taxes for every taxpayer would have to rise by roughly 81% to pay all of the benefits promised by these programs under current law over and above the payroll tax.”

What do those three things have in common? When you study history you learn how things are connected. Today June 14th is Flag Day the anniversary of the making the first official American flag. There was a myth that Betsey Ross made the first official flag. She didn't but the flag with thirteen red and white stripes and thirteen stars in a circle on a field of blue was the first official American flag. How is the Magna Carta connected to the American flag? Well the Magna Carta was a document the Barons of England forced King John to sign on June 15, 1215. That document put limits on the power of King John, limitations he did not like. For an excellent explanation of the importance of the Magna Carta there is a very good book called Magna Carta; The Birth of Liberty by Dan Jones. I highly recommend reading it. Also to put the words "Magna Carta" in your computer's search engine to be able to read the document.

Our Declaration of Independence and Constitution are based on the concept of the negative rights of government. When a government has negative rights it is limited in what it can do. When a government has positive rights it is not limited in what it can do. A government with positive rights sounds like a good idea while a government with negative rights sounds like a bad idea. That is the reverse of what is true. When a government has positive rights it can and does decide how the people it governs live their lives. A government with positive rights can decide how much money someone should make, where they should live, in essence it is a totalitarian government. A government with negative rights cannot do that, it is a government of freedom.

Today my talk was about the idea of thinking outside the or even thinking that there isn't a box. As an example of that being done I talked about Willis Carrier, the man who invented air conditioning, and the men who created the personal computer industry. The personal computer industry was one that no one was needed or wanted but the visionaries who thought outside the box saw that it was. That is what entrepreneurs do. When they do that they create wealth, not only for themselves but also for a lot of people.

Today's show is a talk about a Netflix series I watched High on the Hog. The four episode show looks at the history and influence blacks have had on what Americans eat. By watching it I learned that "mac & cheese" was introduced to America by James Hemmings, Thomas Jefferson's enslaved cook. Hemmings and Hercules Posey, who was George Washington's enslaved cook, were America's first celebrity chefs. They were because both Washington and Jefferson did a lot of entertaining and when they did Hemmings and Posey were the chefs. I really like watching shows like this. By watching shows like this I learn how much blacks have contributed to America and it's culture. Blacks have contributed more to American culture than people realize.

Today's episode has a new feature, the use of music to start and end the show. It is a rambling discourse on Jazz, America's music, and how we would not have the blues, jazz, country, or rock & roll without slavery. This is in no possible way an apology for slavery or those defended it but to realize and accept that it happened. That since it did and we can't change that fact we should look for the silver lining of slavery. Duke Ellington did so and if he could so can we!

On this day in 1775 the "shot heard round the world" was fired to start the American Revolution. Knowledge of why this day is important is why the teaching of history, and in particular American history, is extremely important. For if we do not know history, ours and the world's, if we do not know the good, the bad, and the ugly things that are our history we do not know who we are.

Today's topics were the unfortunate death of Daunte Wright and what caused it. What happened was due to the human instinct of self preservation. It is something that all human beings have and have had since the we came down out of the trees in Africa. The human race started in Africa and every human being in the world is of African descent. Tragic events like the death of Daunte Wright can be prevented when we stop seeing people as members of the black race, the Asian race, the white race and only see them as members of the human race. We must stop segregating our fellow human beings by a classification that does not exist, their being of any other race than the human race!
