Motherhood can leave us feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, and wondering if we're doing enough. In this encouraging conversation, I sit down with author, poet, and advocate Sydney Ann Johnson, whose lifelong passion for writing, faith, and uplifting others has shaped her work and ministry. Together, we talk about the lasting legacy of a parent's words, finding God in the ordinary moments of motherhood, and why taking time to be refreshed by His presence matters. Sydney Ann also shares the heart behind her debut children's book, God, The Great I AM, and why representation in Christian children's literature is so important—helping every child see themselves as beautifully created in God's image. If you need a reminder that God sees you, cares for you, and is carrying you through this season of motherhood, this episode will encourage your heart and strengthen your faith.

After 14 years of homeschooling, I’m stepping into a brand new season — and I’m finally ready to talk about what that transition has really looked like. A few weeks ago, I watched my daughter walk across the stage and graduate high school, and as I celebrated her next chapter, I realized God was also inviting me into mine. In this episode, I’m sharing the honest emotions of ending a season that shaped so much of my identity, the grief of a beautiful ending, and what God has been showing me about who we are when the roles we’ve poured ourselves into begin to change. This conversation is for any mom navigating a transition — whether homeschooling is ending, your children are growing up, your career is shifting, or you’re simply asking, “Lord, what’s next?” This podcast began 14 years ago as the Christian Homeschool Moms Podcast, but I’ve realized there are so many of us walking through this midlife season together, rediscovering who God created us to be beyond the roles we’ve carried. This episode is also available as a video I previously shared on my YouTube channel if you’d like to watch that version as well.

What do you do when life doesn't go according to plan?
In this encouraging conversation, I chat with self-taught coder, entrepreneur, and Rapido Spanish founder Sharon Eddings about overcoming setbacks, healing through growth, and finding the courage to reinvent yourself. Sharon shares how she built a successful tech career, created innovative learning programs, and discovered that lasting change happens one small step at a time.
If you've ever felt behind, stuck, or uncertain about your next chapter, this episode will remind you that your story isn't over yet. Learn more about Rapido Spanish here: https://tryrapidospanish.com/

Have you ever felt guilty because your quiet time didn't look the way you thought it should? In this episode, I'm sharing what my morning routine looks like in this season of life—from Bible study and prayer to green tea, fasting, and preparing for the workday—but more importantly, I'm sharing what God taught me through both the slow, peaceful mornings and the rushed ones when prayer happened in the car. If you've ever wondered whether you're doing enough or wished your spiritual life looked more put together, I hope this conversation reminds you that God isn't grading your morning routine. He's simply inviting you to meet Him right where you are.

In this heartfelt conversation, I sit down with author and educator Jenna Myers to talk about something so many moms quietly carry: burnout, overwhelm, emotional exhaustion, and the pressure to constantly “do it all.” We dive into nervous system regulation, the importance of rest and white space, creating peaceful family rhythms, and learning how to slow down without guilt. Jenna shares her own journey through stress, motherhood, chronic overwhelm, and discovering healthier ways to care for herself and her family. If you’ve been feeling stretched thin, emotionally drained, or like you’re running on empty, this episode is your reminder to breathe, pause, and remember that you were never meant to carry everything alone. This is a gentle, encouraging conversation for moms who need peace, grace, and practical encouragement in a busy season of life.

Why does friendship feel so much harder as a mom… even when your heart still longs for connection?
In today’s episode, we’re having an honest, grace-filled conversation about the quiet shifts that happen in our friendships through motherhood. From changing capacity to evolving seasons, we’re unpacking why things don’t feel the same—and what God might be doing in the middle of it.
This isn’t about forcing more relationships or striving to “get it right.” It’s about understanding where you are, releasing pressure, and learning how to approach friendship in a way that’s healthy, intentional, and rooted in truth.
If you’ve ever felt disconnected, overlooked, or unsure of how to build meaningful friendships in this season… this conversation is for you.
Pull up a seat, mama. You’re not alone. ☕💛

The holiday season can be beautiful — and overwhelming — all at the same time. Between the pressure to buy more, do more, and keep up with expectations, it’s easy to lose sight of what this season is really about. In this reflective, end-of-year episode, I’m sharing a slower, more intentional conversation about choosing meaning over more. As a veteran homeschool mom, I open up about how our family is simplifying gifts this year, shifting our focus toward shared experiences, and creating space for rest, connection, and faith — especially now that our kids are older. Together, we’ll talk about redefining what “special” really means, letting go of holiday performance and commercial pressure, and modeling values for our children that last far beyond this season. Rooted in Scripture and real life, this episode is an invitation to step off the holiday hamster wheel and breathe. I also take time to reflect on the year and express deep gratitude for the guests who joined the podcast — each one offering unique perspectives that highlighted the beauty and diversity of homeschool families. As we close out the year, my hope is that this episode feels like a warm conversation with a trusted friend — reminding you that a simpler holiday can often be a fuller one. Wishing you and your family a peaceful, grace-filled holiday season. I’ll be back in the new year with more encouragement and support for homeschool families and Christian women walking this journey with faith and intention.

In this heartfelt Thanksgiving-season episode, I’m sharing personal updates from my life lately — from my youngest navigating college applications, to my oldest stepping fully into adulthood, to my own journey with health, perimenopause, and rediscovering joy in the everyday. I’m also opening up about my newest adventure: exploring my heritage through cooking Congolese, Nigerian, and Kenyan dishes for the very first time — imperfect, a little messy, but full of meaning. And of course, I’m heading back to my Southern staples for next week’s Thanksgiving table. Inside this episode, we talk about releasing perfectionism, creating space for your own soul-care, embracing small joys, and clinging to “the joy of the Lord” even when life feels heavy. If you’re a homeschool mom who’s been juggling routines, expectations, or simply trying to catch your breath in this season, this conversation will encourage you to reclaim joy, practice gratitude, and give yourself grace. Join me for a warm, honest, faith-filled reflection on what it looks like to slow down, savor the moment, and let God renew your strength.

How can Christian women (and homeschool moms) practice maintaining a healthy body image? This week's guest, Heather Creekmore, encourages us in this area.
About this week's guest:
HEATHER CREEKMORE writes and speaks hope to thousands of women each week inspiring them to stop comparing and start living. Her first book Compared to Who? encourages women to uncover the spiritual root of body image issues and find freedom. Her new release, The Burden of Better, offers women a journey into the depths of God's grace to find a way off the treadmill of constant comparison. Heather has been featured on Fox News, Huff Post, Morning Dose, Church Leaders, and For Every Mom, along with dozens of other shows and podcasts. But she's best recognized from her appearance as a contestant on the Netflix hit show, Nailed It. Heather and her fighter-pilot-turned-pastor husband, Eric have four children and live in Austin, Texas. Connect with Heather at Comparedtowho.me.
Tips Heather shared with us:
* The hope is not in changing the body but the hope is found in changing the heart.
* In order to achieve a mindset shift, we first need a heart shift. What we are believing about our value isn’t necessarily true. Culture tells us our value comes from the way we look. We have a choice to believe what God’s Word says about us or what the world says about us.
* Our temples (our bodies) are meant to be fit for worship and require that we take care of them.
* Our demoralized view of our bodies affects our families. Remember that our opinions of ourselves are not the most important.

Lynn Calvin Plater is the founder and CVO for CYLS-KIDS, LLC and Christ You Live Saved Kingdom Inspired Divine Seeds, LTD, a non-profit with a mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to children through books and toys. She is a Mom's Choice Award and Reader's Favorite book award recipient, and author of the book, Pentawhadda!. She is married to a supportive husband, Antonio Plater. She currently works as a teacher assistant for the Harnett County Public School System in Harnett County, North Carolina.
What Lynn and I chatted about...
* Lynn is a children’s ministry Sunday school teacher, assists with both the general education and special needs group, kindergarten teacher assistant, and holds multiple positions helping children.
* How she was inspired to write her book, Pentawhadda!. (She had a dream about a book with the letters CYLS KIDS. It was an inspiration from God and integrates her passion for helping children).
* What her book is about: Inside her book, there are special needs students (characters) as well as general education students. The pictures show that it caters to all students of the class. There is a special guest in the book, a character who teaches the kids about the bible and keeps kids engaged. Her book offers a general overview of the first five books of the bible and also helps brings awareness to other children besides general ed children.
* There are also activities in the book to help kids memorize the first 5 Bible books as well as a song to reinforce what they’ve learned in the book. A son is included to help them memorize, which is also found on iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon music. CDs are soon to come.
* Lynn's hope is that this book will make kids want to learn more about the Bible and read it for themselves and lay a foundation for learning about the Bible in the future.
Find out how to purchase Lynn's book by visiting the show notes here: http://www.christianhomeschoolmoms.com/gain-confidence-in-teaching-children-the-bible

How can we as homeschool mamas truly reach the hearts of our children (rather than only focusing on their behavior?)
Welcome to the Christian Homeschool Moms Podcast. On this show, the goal is to encourage the Christian mom to Homeschool with joy during this limited season of your life, to stay hopeful on your homeschool journey, and to apply practical homeschool tips that will help you in your everyday life as a mom of faith.
I’m Demetria, your host, a veteran homeschool mom of two beautiful daughters- one in college, one in high school, navy reservist wife, songwriter, podcaster, child of the King. I’m happy to your host on this show.
On this episode, I interview Anita Kroeker, a Christian homeschool mom of 2. Originally from Germany, she's a lover of all things baked especially bread. She's wife to her South Korean Sweetheart, and lives in beautiful Colorado. After teaching in public schools for more than 15 years (in Germany, South Korea, Mexico and USA), she couldn't help but realize some of the flaws of the public school system and wanted something different for her own children. Hence, she started the exciting journey of homeschooling.
