In this message, we come to understand poetically and powerfully that all of these benefits we receive through salvation, are possible because Jesus is God. Because Jesus is God, God is our Father and as sons and daughters we are forgiven. Because Jesus is God, there are no responsibilities we will be asked to face that are too much for us. And because Jesus is God, we have all that we need to overcome any darkness and win any battle we face.Speaker: Minister & Senior Pastor, Jim SamraPassage: 1 John 2:12-14This was recorded live in Grand Rapids, MI on October 5, 2025

Jesus’ life illustrates perfectly what it means to love God and love neighbor so that if we simply do what he did we will be obeying God perfectly. We can rejoice that because Jesus came and lived the life that he did, he has shown us how to have an indestructible life that darkness cannot shake or destroy.Speaker: Minister & Senior Pastor, Jim SamraPassage: 1 John 2:3-8This was recorded live in Grand Rapids, MI on September 21, 2025

In this message, we are going to start digging into 1 John by looking at the very first feature mentioned when you accept God’s offer of the Word of life. So whether you are new to Christianity, have been a Christian for a long time, or are still investigating whether or not you are ready to make this commitment, this is a helpful look at the forgiveness of sins, the first feature in God’s offer.Speaker: Minister & Senior Pastor, Jim SamraPassage: 1 John 1:5-2:2This was recorded live in Grand Rapids, MI on September 14, 2025

We as the church are the users group who get the incredible joy out of sharing Him with others.Speaker: Minister & Senior Pastor, Jim SamraPassage: 1 John 1:1-4This was recorded live in Grand Rapids, MI on September 7, 2025

This message introduces the concept of vows in the Bible, inspired by a passage in Ecclesiastes 5. We see that Solomon is right in Ecclesiastes – it is a terrible thing to make a vow and not keep it. But the rest of the story is that if you make a vow and do keep it, that is even more powerful. When we make vows to God and fulfill them, this enables life to flow from heaven to earth and for God to bring blessing into our lives.Speaker: Minister & Senior Pastor, Jim SamraPassage: Genesis 28This was recorded live in Grand Rapids, MI on June 29, 2025

PRAYER:During Lent, we set aside extra time to pray. Our hope is that by taking this intentional step as a congregation in this season, we will come to Easter having developed or deepened a habit of prayer. For it is through prayer that God transforms our lives, it is an avenue through which His character is made evident in us.One daily practice to consider for the season of Lent is the Prayer of Examen. Founded by St. Ignatius of Loyola, the Examen is a method of personal daily prayer in which one reflects honestly on both the challenging and beautiful events of the past day. In the honest pondering of our daily highs and lows, we develop the beautiful habit of finding God in all things. It is through this careful attention to His presence in our lives that gratitude rises up.Use these prompts to guide your time of prayer each day (typically done in the evening).“Search me O God, and know my heart; test me and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” – Psalm 139:23-241. Become aware of God’s Presence. Thank him for His love for you.2. Pray for the Holy Spirit’s grace and insight so that you may see and understand God’s involvement in your life and so you may see your life clearly.3. Review your day. Take those moments that stood out you and reflect more deeply on what you did, said, or thought. What were your desires in the moment? Your motivations? In these moments, did you feel close to God or further away from Him?5. Respond to what God has shown you, either with thanksgiving or confession. As you voluntarily deny yourself, you are reminded of Jesus as the source of your true sustenance.Fasting is not limited to food (though many people may choose a meal or specific food group from which to fast). Recall specific moments and your feelings and responses at the time. Focus your attention on a few moments that stand out to you.4. Take those moments that stood out you and reflect more deeply on what you did, said, or thought. What were your desires in the moment? Your motivations? In these moments, did you feel close to God or further away from Him?5. Respond to what God has shown you, either with thanksgiving or confession. Rest in God’s love for you and ask him to show you how you may better love God and neighbor in the coming days. Ask for his grace and power to do so.FASTING:Lent is a time for self-examination and contemplation. To facilitate this, Christians often set aside certain foods or non-essential activities. Fasting is not meant to be deprivation or a means of earning grace. Rather, fasting is meant to provide spiritual focus. By setting aside something that is normally a part of your daily life, you are creating space for God. As you voluntarily deny yourself, you are reminded of Jesus as the source of your true sustenance.Fasting is not limited to food (though many people may choose a meal or specific food group from which to fast). Abstaining from certain practices can help us loosen the grip that unhealthy appetites and destructive addictions have on our lives. You may consider fasting from buying books, wearing makeup, listening to the radio /podcasts or eating processed foods. To abstain from these things, things that are not in and of themselves bad, helps us resist subtle idolatry and refocus our lives on God.On Sundays, we set aside our fast as we spend time gathered as a church, feasting in the presence of the Lord.GIVING:During the season of Lent we are spending extended time in prayer. PRAYER:During Lent, we set aside extra time to pray. At times we are given difficult assignments from God. In this sermon we see how Joshua found encouragement on his assignment and how we too can find encouragement on our journeys of faith. We also see four ways that we can give encouragement to one another.

In this sermon pastor Jim asks us how might we be playing the role of Reuben, Gad and Manasseh. How might we serve others who are going through similar stages of life that we have already endured? We should remember that we are all in this together, and none of us can experience true peace and rest unless we are helping others who come behind us

In this sermon pastor Jim Samra explains that the many stories in the book of Joshua are not meant to just be interesting history. Every single word in Scripture is God-breathed and is profitable for doctrine, reproof, correction and training in righteousness. The narrative portions are not just stories, they are God summoning us to action. It is God providing us with the script for the drama of life.

God gave Joshua an instruction for how to be successful and gives us the same instruction today: Meditate on God's word day and night.

Every assignment from God brings with it the opportunity for discouragement and fear. We find ourselves regularly giving way to fear sometimes embarrassingly so. But God wants you to be encouraged today. Remember, he has given you this assignment. He is responsible for the outcome and he will be with you every step of the way.

This teaching series is on the Old Testament book of Joshua. The idea of obedience is prominent throughout Joshua, as we see the children of Israel finally entering the land that God had promised them. As they enter the land, it is their faith that produces obedience to follow God’s directions. Even though they face very difficult situations, God promises to be present with them in a special way when they are willing to step out and obey.

Just like Israel, taking steps of obedience in our own lives requires us to exercise faith, and to lean into God’s promises to be with us, to guide us and to sustain us. As we take these steps and obey, our faith grows and we are better able to see where God is leading us. The series is called “Courage to Obey,” and we hope that through it you will be encouraged to see your faith grow through obedience to God.
