What is the Neurospicy Photographer's Podcast? I'm Don Orkoskey, a photographer, designer, teacher, and the host of the Neurospicy Photographer's Podcast.
I created the Neurospicy Photographer's podcast because I want to let other neurodivergent creatives know that we're not alone.
There are so many entrepreneur podcasts and neurodivergent podcasts and even a few great neurodivergent business owner podcasts. However I've always felt something was missing. I've been lookingfor a place where we could discuss the challenges we face as creatives interfacing with neurotypicals.
What I kept finding were people trying to help with techniques, instructions, workarounds, and more. Don't get me wrong, those are valuable. But I want a place where we can be ourselves, can discuss what we're dealing with, and not have someone try to fix it.
The format will vary but at the core the idea that we're here, have a voice, and we have challenges that are far too often dismissed will always remain.

As a great example, we didn't take time to discuss the fight to register Black voters in the South after the passage of the Voting Rights Act but the Act's passage did not magically stop racist from fighting Blacks who were trying to register. Many people were beaten and some lost their lives fighting to register their fellow citizens.

Your host Don Orkoskey trace's his family's most recent immigrant story, that of his great grandparents who came from Hrustin Slovakia to Hazel Kirk PA in the early 1900's. Explore what they left behind and what they found when they arrived. Don spoke with Mark Pawelec and Brian Charlton from the Donora Historical Society located near the coal company town his family came to call home. They told him about the competing forces looking to shape the lives of immigrants and natural born citizens of the Monongahela River Valley and shared stories of what life was like for people like Don's great grandparents.
