Pandemic fatigue” can occur when people get tired of the pandemic measures and become less likely to follow public health practices or simply begin to drown out those messages. A natural sense of burnout can happen since we’ve had to stick to these public health measures for such a prolonged period of time.

We know what works; our progress over the past few weeks is proof than we can reduce the spread of this virus. Now more than ever, we need to remain vigilant. Wash your hands, stay at least 6 feet away from people outside your household or social circle, and wear a mask when you’re asked to. These are simple things we can all do, and they’ve gotten us this far. Let’s keep the momentum going.

Public health emergencies during outbreak of communicable diseases may cause fear and anxiety leading to prejudices against people and communities, social isolation and stigma. Such behavior may culminate into increased hostility, chaos and unnecessary social disruptions.

Cases have been reported of people affected with COVID-19 as well as healthcare workers, sanitary workers and police, who are in the frontline for management of the outbreak, facing discrimination on account of heightened fear and misinformation about infection. Even those who have recovered from COVID-19 face such discrimination. Further, certain communities and areas are being labeled purely based on false reports floating in social media and elsewhere.

We can be supportive while taking necessary precautions.

The market is filled with 'n' number of supplements out there. Indian spend an estimated $5 billion on herbal supplements and they are mostly unregulated since we coexist amidst diverse schools of medicine. It’s so strange to me that people will just take a company’s word for it. Is it the shiny packaging? The expensive price? Or just the fact that they can’t believe that in today’s society, you could sell something in a store in a mall or online that would be fake, or worse, harmful?

Firstly, do we really them?

It's understandable that over the counter drugs (O.T.C'.s) are convenient, readily available in groceries and big box stores as well as pharmacies, and they are less expensive than going to the doctor and perhaps paying for a costly prescription. That’s all good if OTC drugs are used appropriately, for an indicated condition in the proper dosage and for no longer than the recommended time. However, one in five adults who self-medicate admit to taking more than the recommended dose or using the medication more frequently than the label indicates.

Questions about our physical and mental health can crop up without any warning. In decades past, these questions would come and go, and if any symptoms seemed serious enough, we’d get a professional check-up. However, with the advent of online health advice sites, a diagnosis and its possible treatment are no further away than a few mouse clicks.

But, how authentic are the sources you read? Is it the right way ?

We may not have a vaccine for COVID-19 at the moment, but we do for many other deadly and highly contagious vaccine preventable diseases such as measles and polio. Health care around the world are overstretched and the longer this pandemic continues, the more essential health services like vaccinations will be disrupted.

Yet, outbreaks are inevitable when pockets of children are left unprotected. Today, over 13 million children are not receiving any vaccines. In some cases, conflict is making it hard to deliver vaccines in remote or restricted areas. In others, parents are choosing not to vaccinate their children because they are unaware about the risks these diseases present or because misinformation has seeded distrust.

Find out about the history of vaccines and how do they work.
