This month, we have a fascinating theme. Can you recall one of the very unusual stories that you have read in the Bible? A story that you think… can this really be true, or is it just a metaphor?
This morning, I want to talk about a talking donkey. We often say… God can do anything, and we mean it, but what will you do if you are travelling to see someone and the donkey you are riding on starts to act up, and then starts to talk to you?
We find this story in Numbers 22 – 24.
Join us as Landa opens our new series with a message about just who exactly did Jesus choose and how can we know whether we are truly His disciples.
Today is the last message in this month’s theme called a new era. And the more I thought about this, the more I realized that I don’t really know what this new era means. How has life changed after what Jesus has done for us? Do we look at the cross is something incredibly kind someone did for us? I think there’s a lot more to it. I think it destroyed the reality we lived in and it gave birth to an entirely new reality. Do we really get the significance of what He did? Join me as I explore the significance of Jesus' death and resurrection.
In the newsletter at the beginning of April, I mentioned a few things that are affected with the start of a new era. With the death and resurrection of Jesus, that brought mankind into a new era, it also had an impact on the covenant that God had with Abraham and the nation of Israel.

Most Christians today understand that, if not for Jesus, we should have no hope of being reunited with our heavenly Father, but do we know how to respond to this great news? Furthermore more if your answer to that question is yes, do you actually apply it? Join us as Izak shares about responding to what Jesus did for us.
The resurrection is scientifically impossible but historically true.
Some will ask… is it really true..?
Here we must understand. …
Something is not necessarily true, just people believe it.
The resurrection or Christianity is not true because we believe it is. We believe in the Resurrection …because it is true.
Jesus’ presence is proof of His resurrection. We can encounter Jesus Christ today.

“The evidence for Jesus’ resurrection is so strong that nobody would question it except for two things: First, it is a very unusual event. And second, if you believe it happened, you have to change the way you live”.
You and I may believe it, but do we understand how it changes our lives? We may understand the theology behind it, but has it yet changed our behaviour?

Today we celebrate resurrection Sunday, but what is there to say about this day that has not already been said? So, I did what any desperate preacher does…I Googled. And the first few results that came up all started with the words, “He is risen”. This got me thinking:
Why do we say, “He is risen”, and not, “He has risen”?

We started off this theme by speaking about three types of "load-bearing" pillars. The first was the foundational pillar which represented the pillar of salvation in our lives and the second was the external pillar, which represented our identity in Christ Jesus. Join us tomorrow morning as I talk about the third type. The center pillar. Also known as the pillar of the soul.
These pillars are usually loadbearing because they transfer the weight of the roof to the floor. Their main job is weight transferal. And weight transferal is just a fancy way of saying handing over your burdens. Pillars are really good at handing over their burdens. Join us as we attempt to learn from these pillars how to hand over our burdens.
The last two weeks we have been speaking about pillars in our lives that help us in our Christian walk with God.
We said that the basic pillars in our lives are the relationships we have with God and ourselves.
Today I want to talk about the relationship you and I have with our families. Your household: your wife, husband, and your children.
Knowingly or unknowingly, we all have pillars on which we build our lives. Things that stand out and that we view as important for us to live by, or perhaps to live the way we want to live.
When we look at the structure of our spiritual lives, we know and have heard many times that although we are still in this world, the riches or the pleasures of the world cannot offer us contentment, peace or help us to experience resurrected life. The Bible teaches that God has saved us primarily to be in a RELATIONSHIP with Him, through Jesus Christ and others.

This month’s theme is called pillars and during this month we will have an in-depth look at what are the pillars that sustain the Christian’s life. What are the pillars that enable this house to stand?
Join us this week as we kick off this series talking about the first two pillars of the Christian life namely, salvation and identity.
Every single human being has a calling on their lives. There is no one who has not been called to God to live in and experience His unconditional love for themselves. But once we accept the call, what happens next? Join us as David shares about God's call to action and how that changes us and equips us to live out that calling.
During this month we talked about the fact that the Church of Christ was and still is God’s idea and not just a ritual that happened along the way. Mias spoke about commitment, firstly to God and then to one another. David Pettit said last week that if we become followers of Christ, it means that we do not just “want” anymore but we become givers through the HS who lives in us.
Today, I want to be very practical and share with you who we as WC Vineyard are. How can we apply what we have heard?
All humans, knowingly or unknowingly, wants their lives to mean something.

Make it about others and not just yourself.

3. Make it about serving rather than self-seeking.
Everything he mentions has to do with relationships.

Earlier this week, I visited our church’s website just to be reminded of what Landa said this month’s theme is all about. One of the things she spoke of was this idea of joy that has been lost due to various reasons. And I felt a great sense of connection to this statement. I knew then and there that joy is what I need to talk about should I get an opportunity.
Now joy is a terrible thing to lose, because it’s not like I can just choose to be joyful. It’s not like I can just choose to not be affected by my circumstances. Even though this is the message we give to people sometimes. Just be happy! How? Don’t be sad.

There are many beautiful places on this earth, and surely our perception of beauty differs, but the fact is that it often takes effort to be able to experience these. You can “visit” many places from the comfort of your favourite chair but you cannot truly experience them that way.
The same goes for the promises of God.
We all had a difficult year in 2021.
I know for me it was probably one of the most difficult years I have had in a very long time. I was challenged in so my areas of my life. Physically, mentally and also circumstances around me. I can however say.. that God is and was so faithful. That He helped me and lifted me up. Join us as Landa talks about how to reclaim your peace.

It seems odd to have to say so, but too much religion is a bad thing. We can’t get too much of God, can’t get too much faith and obedience , can’t get too much love and worship. But religion – the well-intentioned efforts we make to ‘get it all together’ for God – can very well get in the way of what God is doing for us. The main and central action is everywhere and always what God has done, is doing and will do for us. Jesus is the revelation of that action.
Our main and central task is to live in responsive obedience To God’s action revealed in Jesus. Our part in the action is the act of faith.
But more often than not we become impatiently self-important along the way and decide to improve matters with our two cent worth. We add on, we supplement, we embellish. But instead of improving on the purity and simplicity of Jesus, we dilute the purity, clutter the simplicity. We become fussily religious. We get in the way.

We live in the golden age of trail subscriptions. Today there is a trial version for almost everything out there and as someone who likes to dabble a bit in everything graphic design; I cannot tell you the number of times I’ve subscribed to certain trial periods for programs and then, 7 days later, only to read the words, “your trial period has expired”.
So, we keep on jumping from trail to trail wanting the full package without the commitment, and what we end up with is a bunch of half-baked experiences without ever really understanding the fullness of what this program has to offer. What is the gospel, the good news, other than; God loves you? God loves you and he made a way for you to return to him and experience that love and love him back.
God has demonstrated his love for us and continually does so every day of our lives.
Here is my problem; If God’s love is so obvious then why do I not feel loved? Why do I know with my head that God loves me but not with my heart? Why when my family loves me and also repeatedly demonstrates that love, do I feel unlovable?

A bunch of criminals broke into a store one night. They did not steal or destroy anything. All they did was exchange all the price tags of the goods in the store.
The next morning, the customers looked around the store confused and delighted. Fur coats were R19.99 each and Toothpaste was marked R249.99. The Silverware's price was R2.99 while a pair of socks was R1499.99. Umbrellas R449.99 and diamond rings R12.99.
This sounds ridiculous.. but the question is:
Has anyone broken into our lives and exchanged price tags? So many things in our lives have become far more valuable to us today than that which is of eternal value.
We so easily choose pleasure, habits, position, power, or our own opinions over what God asks of us or what the Bible teaches us.

In secular terms, the word hope is closely related to wishful thinking.
“A feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen.”
In this sense, the word is purely based on feelings and does not depend on any statistical chance of being fulfilled.
I hope that 2021 will be a better year than 2020. That is subjective hope. This is very far removed from “Christ Jesus our hope”, objective divine hope. The one is wishful thinking, the other a certainty based on the infallibility of God.

When I read through the book of Ruth this week, one question came up that I never thought of before: WHY IS THE BOOK CALLED RUTH?
That sounds like a silly question. Why not Naomi who is a prominent person in this book and an Israelite, amongst the women of Moab. Or even better, why is it not called Boaz? He is the hero (in today’s terms) who “saved the day”, so to speak. My conclusion is, there must be something about Ruth, that God wants to use to teach/inspire us in our walk with Him. It must be something important that she would be remembered in such a profound way. Join us as we dive into the life of Ruth.
As you might know, our series for this month is focused on the people we read about in scripture and what it was that inspired them to keep on going. In this week's message, we will be having a closer look at the story of Thomas the disciple.
There are passages in the Bible that we think to be irrelevant to our daily lives, but they could be hiding a special truth for our blind eyes. Look at the man Job, mentioned in the Bible. I know his story looks so unfair, but I believe there are some truths that God wants to reveal to us. Join us as we have a closer look at the story of Job.

We have to accept the fact that no amount of good works or pleasant behavior could ever earn God's love and therefore we are given this as a free ticket, but actually using this ticket and getting on the train, is something we must decide to do daily. Have you ever been in a position where God was taking too long?
A few years ago, I was listening to a sermon by some pastor who spoke about how his wife always complained about him not opening the car door for her. After countless days of nagging, he eventually gave in… and bought a car with central locking. Praise the Lord for central-locking, but I’m sure there are far fewer women who feel as loved and respected by central-locking as they do by a guy actually opening the door for them. One of the lessons that I had to learn this year, is that the fastest way isn’t always the most effective. Sometimes you need to take the long way round.

This Sunday we were joined by David Pettit from Cornerstone Vineyard Christian Fellowship in Bothasig, CT. David is the senior pastor at Cornerstone. He also functions as the overseer of the district we fall in (our HUB leader). He also happens to be the pastor Mauritz (our previous pastor) served under for a few years. These days we have to be so careful with what we say and do because everyone gets offended by everything. So sometimes you just need that person who gets you.

If we look at any action or romance movie today, it’s no surprise that we are such suckers for these big moments of life. No one cares about what happens leading up to this moment. All we care about is the flashy ending. The moment of life and death, the final battle, where the hero comes face to face with their greatest challenge. The cloudy letters in the sky spelling out will you marry me, the first kiss, the baby getting saved from the burning building with mere seconds to spare. I think you get the point.
But what about the other 98% of life? Moments of grandeur are great, but if these moments are all that we live for, then we’re missing out on most of life. This is why the journey is so important.
In this message Herman talks about our obsession with feeling important, the little things that get overshadowed by this desire, and the moments in between all of this.
In this message, Landa talks about the deeper significance of our salvation and the transformative power that comes along with this great gift.
So much has happened the last few months. We have read so many false stories and some decisions they made have been changed again and again. We have been warned about things that never happened and heard of things that we cannot understand or image. But despite all of this there is a reason for us to hold on to hope. Join us as Landa shares about being a prisoner of hope.
In this message, Herman talks about being thankful in the moment, even when the moment sucks.
In this message Landa addresses the fact that, due to the epidemic, we might need to start some new thing. Some of us might need to start all over, but don't let this discourage you. One of the things I like most about the Old Testament is the creation story. There’s nothing quite like it. It’s a beautiful and terrible story. On the one hand, you have this story of how mankind is placed in complete and perfect harmony with all of creation. A place where mankind walked with God, side by side. On the other hand, it’s a little depressing. To think that we had it all. We lived as immortals in a land void of hostility. A world that God called good. Compare that to the world today, and it’s bound to make you a little sad. But today I want to show you that, despite everything that happened, despite our disobedience, despite the fall, God continues to invite us to join Him in His adventure.

We had the privilege of having the van den Heevers with us this past Sunday and Mauritz gave us some insights into what has been happening in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe in terms of economy, everyday life challenges, as well as the spiritual attack they're facing. As Christians, we are called to 'make fishers of men'. But we also need to understand that this is our mission, regardless of what it might cost us. At the end of the day we can be comforted, like Paul was, by the fact that when our time on this earth is over, we will be with the Father for all eternity, free of bondage, free of chains, and free to be.

Propriety, or being prim and proper is described as: // Conformity to conventionally accepted standards of behavior.
For example. Inviting yourself to someone’s house for dinner is generally considered to be impolite or forward based on the proprieties of modern civilization.
In my opinion, propriety is just watered-down modesty. Propriety is a man-made construct in which its rules are determined by whatever society deems to be the norm whereas modesty is a godly characteristic that reflects the motive of one’s heart. The way Eleanor treats Zak is a very good example of how we treat people based on what the social norm dictates. She treats Zak the way she does because this is what has been accepted as the standard. She means well, but her actions communicate to Zak that he is helpless and even pitiful. This is watered-down modesty.

Modesty is rarely as simple as the stuff society considers to be appropriate or inappropriate.

In this message, Landa talks about the reality of the unseen kingdom. A kingdom that is here, presently, and yet is still to come. The kingdom of God is a very important and central part of the Vineyard doctrine. The book of Psalms expresses worship. Throughout it's many pages, the Psalms encourages its readers to praise God for who He is and what He has done. The Psalms illuminate the greatness of our God, affirm His faithfulness to us in times of trouble, and remind us of the absolute centrality of His Word. As the Psalms present a clear picture of God lovingly guiding His people, the responses of praise and worship to God are never far from the psalmists’ pens. The portrayal of worship in the Psalms offers us glimpse after glimpse of hearts devoted to God, individuals repentant before Him, and lives changed through encounters with Him.
Titus 2: 11-14 11 For the [remarkable, undeserved] grace of God that [a]brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to reject ungodliness and worldly (immoral) desires, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives [lives with a purpose that reflect spiritual maturity] in this present age, 13 awaiting and confidently expecting the [fulfillment of our] blessed hope and the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Christ Jesus, 14 who [willingly] gave Himself [to be crucified] on our behalf to redeem us and purchase our freedom from all wickedness, and to purify for Himself a chosen and very special people to be His own possession, who are enthusiastic for doing what is good.
Make no mistake, the day will come for Christ's return. The question is, will we be ready?

If you had to think about what kind of people you would choose as your child’s legal guardians in the event that you and your wife both passed away, what kind of people would you choose? I am not a father yet, but I can tell you I would probably choose someone who loves God of course, but also someone who is wealthy, who lives in a good area, who is respected in the community and who has experience in raising children. So why would God choose someone like Joseph. A hard worker, no doubt, but not particularly well off or respected. In fact, there isn’t really anything that special about him. He was not a Rabi or a priest. He was unknown, and he had no fatherly experience that we know of. Why did God choose Joseph?
1 Thessalonians 3:12-13
And may the Lord cause you to increase and excel and overflow in love for one another, and for all people, just as we also do for you; so that He may strengthen and establish your hearts without blame in holiness in the sight of our God and Father at the coming of our Lord Jesus with all His saints (God's people).
