In this four episode podcast I will examen the influence that the films of various countries have had on society as they put significant world issues on the screen. Each episode will have one or more special guests to help provide different perspectives and thoughts.
In today's episode I'll be talking about Alfonos Cuarón's film Roma and it's wide range of covered topics from racial discrimination, class distinction and the complicated nature of relationships between men and women. Get ready for a colorful, and at times heated discussion, between my mother, my aunt and I as we attempt to analyse this thought provoking film as well as it's modern relevance. Disclaimer: Due to the fact that I did not have access to the recording studio on campus, this episode was recoded in my house using the recording equipment on my laptop.
The favelas of Rio de Janeiro in the 1970s were a place of crime, drugs and violence. In this episode two friends of mine and I will be discussing the film City of God and the beautifully disturbing way in which it portrays and legitimizes the vicious cycles of inescapable poverty, violence and the loss of innocence. The episode will also focus on the children which get wrapped up in a life of gangs and drug distribution.
In this episode education is the name of the game. The film Être et Avoir follows a year in the life of teacher Georges Lopez as he instructs a class of 12 children in a small school in rural France. Along with Charlotte Passe-Carlus, a caring and passionate French teacher, we will be tackling various topics such as teaching styles in France and the United States, different pedagogies and the importance of diversified teaching according to the needs of each student.
For this first episode of my podcast I will be breaking down the the propagandistic film Triumph of The Will with Dr. Pigott of Brigham Young University, Idaho. Together we will be discussing the power of Hitlers captivating charisma, the deformation of reality though the medium of film and just how pertinent these themes are in today's social and political scene.
