As the Old Testament unfolds, the Israelites continuously show their unfaithfulness and sinfulness. God calls them back to himself through calling them to repentance. One of the ways that God revealed his wrath on the unfaithfulness of Jerusalem was by the destruction of Jerusalem and the temple in 586 B.C. This was a hard time for Jerusalem as they were overthrown by their enemies and they became captive to Babylon. The book of Lamentations describes the sorrow expressed by the people of Jerusalem. This was a national disaster and a rightfully deserved judgement on Jerusalem. This judgement exposed the sinfulness of man even more. This judgement though, brought about a repentance that brought Jerusalem back to God.

God hands man over to their sin and exposes the sinfulness of man in order to draw people to repentance. This darkness that confronts each one of us on a daily basis should not draw us to have pity, rather it should draw us to a lamenting/mourning of the sinfulness of man, which then will lead many to repentance. God is a merciful God, and a God who desires that none should perish. God desires for us to be reconciled to him, but this only comes through Jesus Christ.

Two lines descended from Adam and Eve: The line of Cain and the line of Seth. Cain, after having murdered his brother, Able, was allowed by God to continue his life, though under a curse from God. We saw that he walked away from God, determined to make his own way - the Way of Cain.

Seth established a lineage that produced some very godly men. This would be the line through which the Son of David, the Son of God would eventually come. It was in this line that Enoch was mentioned, as one who "walked with God; and he was not, for God took him." This was the first human being to have been translated into heaven without having died. A wonderful sign for those of us who are waiting for the day when the Lord will call believers up to meet Him in the air!

But something awful happened to humanity. Sin had been allowed to take hold of everyone to such an extent that people were no longer redeemable! "The Lord was sorry that He had made man...and He was grieved in His heart." What grieves the Lord, and what is God's Response to this problem?

Have you paused lately to consider God’s incredible grace in and over your life? What He has done in order to stir our hearts and open our eyes is so beyond our ability to comprehend. It literally is miraculous!

Paul, the apostle, pleaded with the Corinthian believers “to not receive the grace of God in vain.” I think this may very well be the single most crucial concern in any person’s life. How anyone responds to God’s grace reveals his or her level of understanding and appreciation, or lack thereof. Some will insult God’s grace, another will be disinterested, while another will bring shame upon God’s grace, and yet another will withhold having knowledge and experience of God’s grace. How sad to receive such grace in vain.

Paul was concerned that mishandling grace would lead to offensive attitudes & actions that would ultimately diminish the testimony of the ministry. He then challenged believers by commending himself and fellow workers as ministers of God. This is what should happen to anyone who rightly responds to God’s amazing grace … that we might live in such a way that others would recognize the Validation our Testimony.

Peter wrote in his 1st letter that we are the People of God. In fact he calls us, “His own special people.” There is a distinct difference in terms of Who we are when evaluated on spiritual terms—something the world knows nothing about. Today, let’s pause, give thanks, and celebrate the blessed fact that we belong to Jesus Christ > We are His Body, the Church, destined for Eternal Greatness!
