FollySunday September 12, 2021The Sunday school lesson continues a study through the book of Proverbs. Folly like wisdom calls in the marketplace of everyday life. In Proverbs, Wisdom and Folly are compared and contrasted in actions and results. Folly calls with two voices - the voice of exploitation and the voice of adulatory. We are watch out for the temptations of Folly, and the cry of selfishness. Rather we are to follow the words of Jesus to do "unto others what we would have them do to us."
This week's Sunday school lesson looks at Proverbs Chapter 8. We are encouraged to seek wisdom. In this passage, we find that wisdom was there at the very beginning of the universe, watching and guiding. When we hear the voice of wisdom calling by the gates, we should take heed to the lessons wisdom offers. Its value in our lives is greater than rubies, and nothing else can compare.

At the very end, one final battle between good and evil will occur and death and suffering will finally be ending. While the time leading up may be difficult, we can rest in knowing that God will gain the victory.
Guest speaker Ren Wallen, discusses the meaning of Pentecost. The prophecy from Joel to the last words of Jesus before the accession bear witness to the importance of the event. The coming of the Holy Spirit and the endowment of boldness is needed even in the persecutions of today.

The nation was being surrounded by the armies Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir. Jehoshaphat as a leader sought God and prayed publicly before the people. In his prayer he prayed "we do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you." He confessed their need for God's help and focused on him to provide deliverance.
Elijah On Mt CarmelSunday June 18, 2021False idol worship had invaded the land. God working through Elijah made a stand on Mount Carmel against the prophets of Baal. After that confrontation, the land remained dry. Elijah prayed for rain, and God sent rain and ended the famine. We are reminded through this victory that the prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective when ordered according to God's will.

While the main army was hiding in caves, Jonathan and his armor-bearer went up to the enemy camp after asking for sign. Their single victory is a lesson in courage in the face of fearful odds. Jonathan's courage inspired courage in those that were hiding, bring about a great victory.

The Sunday School lesson continues the series "Great Stories of the Bible." This week looks at the story of the city of Ai. It was not a victory. The first attempt resulted in failure. The cause was sin. Once the sin was repented of, then good the victory happen. Don't let sin in your life cause you defeat. You must first repent of the sin and stop what is wrong. Ai reminds us of what happens when we sin and don't repent. But God, was there and able to work a victory for his people through repentance and remembrance.

Sihon and OgGreat Victories of the Bible Pt.3June 27, 2021The adult Sunday School class continues with a study of the defeat of Sihon and Og. Two great kings that came out to fight the Israelites on their journey out of Egypt. This account is found in Deuteronomy 2, and is one of the most frequently referenced battles throughout the old testament.
The Sunday School series continues with the "Great Victories of the Bible." This week is the defeat of the Amalekites when the Israelites were journeying from Egypt to the promised land. While traveling the Amalekites would attack and pick off stragglers from the camp. This was a new defeat for the newly freed people. With God, the people faced the danger and defeated the enemy while Moses stood on a mountain top holding the staff. This is a challenge to look up and find strength in God.
This week's sermon is "Never Give In" with the theme being from Ezra 3. The Israelites had returned from Babylon and begin work on the temple. Right from the outset difficulties arise. Groups work to undermine the construction. When you are doing God’s work, there will be opposition. The temptation to give up and stop will come. Even in that "seek first the kingdom of God.”. Set your sights on the higher calling. Even though the beginning may have been small, don’t give up.

Of all the events in the Bible, one events stands out as the most referenced off all events. This single event highlights the importance of never forgetting the times we cry out to God for deliverance from evil. God had a plan and was working it out to fulfilment even when the Israelites were in Egypt.

But the command to be a witness extended past the disciples, it now extends to us in the present to continues to make disciples of Christ. These were actually some of the last recorded words of Jesus.
