Health care expert Fred Goldstein of AMCP Podcast Powered by PopHealth Week sits down with Dr. April Armstrong to discuss psoriasis, a chronic and systemic inflammatory skin disease affecting children as well as adults and the tremendous impact on their physical and mental impact on quality of life. Dr. Armstrong is a general dermatologist with a focus on inflammatory skin diseases, and those include psoriasis and atopic dermatitis. She also treats patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, conducts research, and specifically looks at some of the systemic therapies and how they impact patients with inflammatory skin diseases.
Dr. Armstrong is Professor of Dermatology and Associate Dean at the University of Southern California (USC). She also serves as Vice Chair in the dermatology department and heads the psoriasis program at USC.
Dr. Armstrong obtained her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed dermatology residency at Harvard. She also obtained a Master of Public Health degree from Harvard School of Public Health. Prior to joining faculty at the University of Southern California, Dr. Armstrong was Vice Chair at the University of California Davis in Sacramento and later at the University of Colorado in Denver.

In the inaugural episode, health care expert Fred Goldstein of the AMCP Podcast Powered by PopHealth Week sits down with health policy veteran Chris Jennings to hear his insights on the COVID-19 response. Mr. Jennings is a health policy veteran of over three decades at the White House, Congress, and in the private sector. Serving as the senior advisor to the president for health policy in the Obama administration and in a similar capacity in the Clinton White House for eight years, Mr. Jennings helped pass, enact, and implement the Affordable Care Act, the Children’s Health Insurance Program, and numerous other health reforms. Outside of government service, Mr. Jennings has been a senior health policy advisor to ten presidential campaigns; the 2008, 2016, and 2020 Democratic Platform Drafting Committees; and multiple gubernatorial and Senate candidates. Most recently, Vice President Biden appointed Mr. Jennings as one of his members of the Biden-Sanders Unity Task Force. He is currently president of Jennings Policy Strategies (JPS), a nationally respected health care consulting firm committed to assisting foundations and other aligned stakeholders in developing policies to ensure higher quality, more affordable health care.

Dr. Charles Chima, MBBS, MSc, DrPH, trained as a physician at the University of Nigeria and worked in primary care for two years. He obtained a master of science in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. He subsequently obtained a doctor of public health degree in health services research and global health and further training in health informatics at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.
Dr. Chima is a population health scientist who seeks innovative ways to improve health outcomes and reduce waste in health care using the population health approach. He has led large-scale chronic disease population health initiatives in Houston, and provided advisory services as a consultant to state governments in Nigeria on primary care reform. He was also an HRSA primary care research fellow at the Family and Community Medicine Department, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, Texas.
