Welcome to our 14th Season: Stop Self Sabotage: Six Steps to Unlock Your True Motivation, Harness Your Will Power, and Get out of Your Own Way by Dr. Judy Ho!
This episode’s effectiveness is contingent on having completed the action items throughout this entire book summary. A secret to this podcast is if you only did the action items, then that alone would allow you to start seeing significant progress towards your dreams.
Having done all the action items for this book, you now have the power to identify your thoughts, beliefs, and actions which have prevented you from your goals. You also know what your self sabotage triggers are, and how to step in the way and prevent them from transforming into action moving you away from your goals. You also have created if than statements, which give you a roadmap to do certain opposing actions whenever you feel a certain way.
Finally, you know what success looks like to you, and your goals are firmly planted in your values. These action items definitely took time, and one in particular took me over 2 hours to do, but they are well worth it in the self understanding you will gain.
Always, Always Remember,

Welcome to our 14th Season: Stop Self Sabotage: Six Steps to Unlock Your True Motivation, Harness Your Will Power, and Get out of Your Own Way by Dr. Judy Ho!
Action Items: for ease of reference, these are listed in the show notes as well
Then, brainstorm values that mean the most to you. This could be things such as honesty, hard working, responsible, etc. This book has a list of common values or they’re just a search away online. After you’ve finished, see which of those values were being lived out in your really good memory.
Now that you know what your values are, write them down somewhere that you’ll see them everyday. You’ll notice that once you start living in accordance with these values, life will become much more enjoyable. As you do this actively, something you may notice is that you realize there is a value that you hold more dear than one on your list. If that’s the case, that’s ok! Just swap it out or add it. The average person usually starts with about 7 and slowly narrows it down to their top 3.
Do something today to take action on the values. If we do one thing, even if it is small, in accordance with our values then our happiness levels will steadily increase.
Always, Always Remember,
You've got this!

If so, journal about why your thought process may be incorrect about your fears or insecurities. Remember, just because we think or feel something does not mean it is true.

How valuable is your time? Have you ever stopped to think about how much you make and if you’re salary, dividing it by the hours you work? If you’re hourly, if you worked 160 hours a month is it really worth all the time you’re spending? If not, what kind of side hustle can you start to build up to help pay off debts and live life on your terms?
On this journey, Vincent and Elizabeth were made fun of constantly. Instead of cheering them on, some of those closest to them joined in the ridicule. If this happens to you, what will you do in order to bounce back and keep on the journey?

Take this curiosity concept, and go have a conversation with someone. Take note of how much you’re speaking versus they are talking. Also, actually listen to them. Try to understand the meaning behind what they are saying versus accepting it at face value. A conversation is like an iceberg. 90% of the content is underneath the water.
When you’re talking with someone if you’ve really hit it off, ask this question: “If I could wave a magic wand and help you achieve your goals, what would that look like?”

Shoremates,
Welcome to our 7th book, Entreleadership, written by the legendary Dave Ramsey.
Shoremates, I understand that this book in particular may cause unknown feelings of shame or anger to arise. If this is the case, that is 100% ok. Subconsciously, there is a reason you feel that way, and by digging deeper you’ll make incredible strides forward. In one of the promotions for this book, comedian Jeff Foxworthy said that wisdom is a combination of knowledge plus scars. Throughout the introduction, Dave is essentially pleading with you to listen to the lessons he has learned, as much of these lessons came through blood, sweat and tears.

Shoremates,
Welcome to the final chapter in this book, The Law of Contribution, John Maxwell's 15th Law in his book, the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
In this episode, we talk about how the greatest thing we can do in life is contribute to others. That it is through this contribution that we make the biggest impact in life.
There are two different ways to look at life. One is to view it as a reservoir. You only have so much water, and you need to guard it carefully, as you’ll never know when you need it. The other way is to look at life as a river. There will always be an influx of water, and therefore you are always making a contribution. You’re not afraid to give to others. It is not a mistake that this Law, the law of contribution, is part of John’s rules for personal growth, for it is by giving to others that you’ll see significant growth. It is a transformation from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset.
In this episode, we cover questions to ask yourself in being a good mentor, cover several recommendations for how to contribute, and then go through a summary of the previous 14 laws.

Shoremates,
Welcome to The Law of Expansion, John Maxwell's 14th Law in his book, the 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.
In this episode, we talk about the fact that in life, there is no finish line when it comes to this personal development lifestyle. Actually, there is a finish line....that finish line is death.
Many experts agree that on average, we use only small fraction of our potential. John likens this to owning several hundred acres of land, yet only using half an acre of it for profit. In this episode, we talk through multiple ways to increase your capacity for both thinking and for action.

Shoremates,
In today's episode, we are excited to cover John Maxwell's 13th principle: mentoring.
The premise behind this is that you can only go so far by yourself. When John started, he read books, created action plans in the front covers, and intentionally grew until he was able to meet with men who could mentor him. That helped his growth drastically.
Throughout this episode, we cover the benefits that a mentor could provide you with, and also a few "take caution" notes when you decide to approach someone to ask their help.

In this episode, we go through a "curiosity belief stack." If you employ these to your service, no matter how low your curiosity levels are, they will rise. These 10 different points will not only help you to live in a more curious state, but will help you to live a more fulfilled life that is significantly more enjoyable.

Welcome to Mind Your Helm, where we will be talking about Law 10 in John Maxwell's legendary book, the 15 invaluable laws of growth.
Law 10 is the law of the rubber band. The whole premise behind this law is that in order to grow and develop in life, we need to stretch out of our comfort zone.
Throughout this chapter, John talks about many areas that he has had to learn how to be comfortable stretching, and then he talks about the benefits of having this tension in your life.

In this episode, we cover the law of the ladder in regards to character growth. For the past several decades, John has had 5 specific rungs to the character growth ladder that he constructed for himself to live by. His belief is that any success or failure that we head towards will be directly related to whatever our character is. If we work on our characters, we will walk towards success. If we do not, we will fall into failure.

In today's episode, we are continuing with Law 8 in John Maxwell's legendary book, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth."
Law 8 is the law of pain. No one actually "likes" pain. By very definition, it hurts! However, it is through these painful experiences that we can actually learn the most....if we let it.
In this episode, we talk about the foundation of bad experiences, how to turn pain into gain, and finish up with action items you can use today.

Shoremates,
In today's episode, we are continuing with Law 7 in John Maxwell's legendary book, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth."
Law 7 is the law of design. John Maxwell is incredibly intentional in everything he does, to the point that his favorite time of year is the week after Christmas, because he gets to analyze how well he planned out the previous year!
There are a few reasons John does this, and they boil down to 3 main life lessons that we speak on. Later, we talk about Bronnie Ware's study in what the top 5 common regrets of the dying are. This is important, as we can negate them and turn each statement into the following.
(1) I can, I will, I must have the courage to live a life true to myself. Not what others expect of me.
(2) I can, I will, I must work the necessary amount to live a fulfilling lifestyle, but will place a far greater emphasis on relationships over extra hours at the office.
(3) I can, I will, I must have the courage to express my feelings.
(4) I can, I will, I must stay in touch with my friends.
(5) I can, I will, and I absolutely must allow myself to be happier, as happiness is a choice.

Shoremates,
In today's episode, we are continuing with Law 6 in John Maxwell's legendary book, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth.”
Law 6 is Environment. In this episode, we walk through 6 choices that John describes in whether we are using this law to our maximum value. Remember, each of these choices are going to depend on the individual, their goals, their desired lifestyles, and what exactly they want to accomplish in their life. This disclaimer is because someone who wants a 9-5 and 2 kids is going to differ drastically in their goals from someone who wants to own their own company.
This law is incredibly powerful, as Jim Rohn famously stated, “you are the average of the 5 people you surround yourself with.” At Mind Your Helm, we encourage you to spend time thinking about this, and to either buy this book or borrow it from your local library to go more in-depth.

In today's episode, we are continuing with Law 5 in John Maxwell's legendary book, "The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth."
Law 5 is consistency. It is one of the least glamorous, yet most reliable laws. Said another way, it is the consistency in our daily actions which lead to our habits which lead to a lifestyle. Want a different life? Change what you are consistent on.
In this episode, we cover 8 tips that John covers in Law 5, along with a questionnaire that will help you know immediately if your "why" is strong enough.

Welcome back to the 4th law from John Maxwell's The 15 Invaluable Laws of Leadership.
The 4th Law, Self Reflection, is the one law which could radically change your life at a faster pace than you can imagine.
The big point from this, to quote John himself, is "Reflection turns experience into insight."
In this episode, we cover 10 incredibly important questions to ask yourself, along with 4 "I's" when you take time to pause. This episode is a bit shorter today, as the "take action today" items will take time!
Action item 1:
Where in your house or apartment can you create a “Stop and Think” place? No matter where it is, it is good to have one of these places.
Action item 2:
Spend time going through John’s 10 questions for self awareness. This will take time, but it is well worth it. During these moments, it is important to write down the question, write down the answers, and to be brutally honest. If this is uncomfortable for you, I applaud you for moving out of your comfort zone. I hope you are one of the 1% who takes action on this.
Always Remember, you've got this!

Shoremates,
Today we cover John Maxwell's 3rd law, the Law of the Mirror, out of his book The 15 Invaluable Laws of Leadership.
The main point is that self-esteem is the single most significant key to a person's behavior. Zig Ziglar backs this up by saying “It’s impossible to consistently behave in a manner inconsistent with how we see ourselves. We can do very few things in a positive way if we feel negative about ourselves.”
In this episode, we cover 10 specific steps you can do right now to help build your self esteem, and thereby increase your quality of life.

Shoremates,
Welcome to our new book, The 15 Invaluable Laws of Growth by John C. Maxwell. In today's episode, we talk over John's credentials, the introduction of the book, and then Law #1: intentionality.
Growth doesn't just happen. In order to achieve the maximum amount of growth, intention must be applied.
There are several gaps we as a human race gravitate towards which sabotage us from living the best versions of our lives. We go through these in detail throughout the episode.
If you have decided to make the transition to intentional personal growth, ask how far you can go, focus on the journey rather than the destination, do something now as a sense of urgency is valuable, and face any fears you may have (and know that fear is totally normal to experience.)

Tablets 3-5: how his debt pay off journey went
Chapter 11 is entitled the luckiest man in Babylon, and speaks of how Sharru Nada got out of slavery due to the help of Arad Gula. Arad's grandson, Hadan, was at Sharru's side and he was debating how to convey how important work was to the soul and to future prosperity.

Shoremates,
Welcome to part 7 of the Richest Man in Babylon where we go through chapters 8 and 9: the Walls of Babylon and the Camel Trader of Babylon.
Banzar was an old warrior who had been through numerous battles with the king. He did not go out with the main armies, and was part of the defending regiment when the Assyrians came from the North to attack the walls of Babylon.
Banzar would be the go between with information from the civilians to the soldiers. Whenever a civilian would approach him and ask about the progress, the answer would be the same: be of good heart, the walls of Babylon will protect you. The message was simple...we cannot afford to be without adequate protection.
Chapter 9 introduced to us Tarkad and Dabasir. Tarkad owed Dabasir (and many others) money. Dabasir came across his path, took him aside, and told him of a story when he was a slave.
Dabasir was born a free man, but lived without restraint, lost everything he had, became a robber, and then was sold into slavery. During this time, he woke up and took off the victim mentality lens of life, and came across the following message: where the determination is, the way can be found.

Shoremates,
Welcome to the next part of the life changing book, Richest Man in Babylon.
The two main characters in this chapter are Rodan, the spear maker, and Mathon, the money lender. Rodan is having a massive internal conflict because he just received 50 years worth of savings from the king as a reward, doesn't know how to invest it, and people are asking for it as an investment for other business ideas.
In this episode, we talk through the money lender's response to situations similar to the above, and talk through a story about an ox and a donkey. The lesson from the story is this: if you desire to help your friend, do so in a way that will not bring your friend’s burdens upon yourself.
3 types of loans talked about during this episode are personal property (collateral), assured earning capacity (yearly salary), and the cosign only loans.
The main idea of this chapter is "Better a little caution, than a great regret!"

Welcome to Part 5 in our Richest Man in Babylon Series.
Today, we go over chapters 5 and 6.
Chapter 5 is "Meet the Goddess of luck." The main takeaway from this is that luck does not actually exist. One famous quote about luck is that "the harder I work, the more luck I have." Luck comes by being at the right place, at the right time, with the right people. The means you need to become the right person, being with the right people, hanging out at the right places, and then when opportunity comes, take quick and immediate massive action.
Chapter 6 talks about the 5 laws of gold. These laws are:

In this episode, we transition to the king of Babylon wondering why the wealth of the many has trickled into the pockets of the few.
He summoned Arkad and demanded to know how this man had become so wealthy, when he had such humble beginnings.
Arkad had a few simple answers:
THE FIRST CURE: START THY PURSE TO FATTENING.
THE SECOND CURE: CONTROL THY EXPENDITURES
THE THIRD CURE: MAKE THY GOLD MULTIPLY
THE FOURTH CURE: GAURD THY TREASURES FROM LOSS

During this episode we introduce the background of the author, and part of his inspiration for writing this book. Banks and insurance companies were so impressed by his desire for each man and woman to have financial independence, that they promoted and distributed this book!
