How can you tell if you have put someone on a pedestal:

  1. You follow them uncritically
  2. You overlook real faults of theirs
  3. You let them pressure you, even to the violating of your values and convictions
  4. You are dependent on their attention, affection, or affirmation
  5. You own their problems
  6. You are afraid of them not needing you
  7. You fret if they don't talk to you

What to do if you have put someone on a pedestal

  1. Recognize the one word in all 7 identifiers (you).
  2. Be humble AND courageous
  3. Have a mature conversation with them (if they don't like you attempting to remove them from the pedestal, it is evidence to you that they are jacked up)
  4. Refuse to allow #2 & #3 happen again
  5. Be your own person before the Lord

    1. For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all. - Romans 11:32
  5. God is not partial in gifting his salvation to people
    1. So Peter opened his mouth and said: “Truly I understand that God shows no partiality.” - Acts 10:34
  6. Jesus fully satisfied God’s wrath toward the sins of all people
    1. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. - 1 John 2:2
  7. Jesus, through his crucifixion, is drawing all people to himself
    1. And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself. - John 12:32
