Wherever you listen to this podcast, put on your headphones, make yourself comfortable and prepare to feel like you are sitting down to have a chat with your oldest and most supportive friend.
Welcome to the final epsiode of the Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived podcast. In this episode we are going to pull together everything that we have learned throughout the series and use it to weave our own bespoke wellbeing parachute.
Jon Kabat Zinn refers to 'weaving your parachute' in terms of mindfulness. By which he means, create the habit of a daily practice so that it is there to support you when you need it i.e. when you jump out of the airplane.
In this episode I take the analogy further and encourage us all to create our own wellbeing plan to support us in all aspects of life so that we are best able to support ourselves in difficult times.
Welcome to the ninth Switch Off Session on The Good Life Well Lived podcast.
In this episode, I talk about the power of showing ourselves kindness and self-compassion to help quieten our busy mind. Often we would not talk to our worst enemy the way that way talk to ourselves. Our constant internal narrative makes it difficult to switch off and give ourselves some breathing space. In this episode I share tips to help you give yourself a break and switch off that voice in your head.
Welcome to the eighth of the Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived podcast.
In this episode we are going to explore how you can identify relaxation techniques based on your own Myers Briggs Personality Preferences.
For a lot of people, traditional relaxation techniques don't work and can often have the opposite effect. I share an anecdote about a friend who repeatedly went on spa days and would leave feeling more stressed than she started. By understanding our personality preferences (e.g. if you are an extrovert and get your energy from other people then don't expect to feel refreshed after a day of solitude) we can best create situations and experiences that we will find truly relaxing.
Welcome to the seventh Switch Off Session on The Good Life Well Lived podcast.
Today we are discussing the ultimate switch off tool, sleep. We cover the importance of sleep, the effect sleep has on our body and what we can do to make the most of our sleep.
Welcome to the sixth of our Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived Podcast.
I call our mobile phone the modern day pocket knife, incredibly useful but potentially dangerous in the wrong hands! In this episode we are talking about how we can learn to switch off from our mobile phones.
I don't believe that it is helpful to or indeed necessary to switch off from our phones entirely but I do believe that we can use them in a more intentional and mindful way so that they add value rather than take over our life.
Welcome to the fifth of the Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived podcast. In this episode, I share with you how you can create your own retreat from home. This is the perfect opportunity to create your own cozy, oasis of calm at home and immerse yourself in a bespoke retreat experience. It's the perfect way to switch off your busy mind and give yourself some breathing space.
Welcome to the fourth episode of the Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived Podcast.
In this episode we talk about managing the mental load in the context of a pandemic. This time last year many of us found managing the day to day mental load of work, family and life management a heavy burden. In the Winter of 2020 that mental load weighs even more heavily on many of us. In this episode we discuss how we can give ourselves a break and allow ourselves to more effectively manage our many responsibilities.
Welcome to the third of the Switch Off Session on The Good Life Well Lived podcast.
Working from home makes it even easier to blur the distinction between work and home life. In this episode we discuss how establishing morning, lunchtime and end of day routines can be a helpful way to create boundaries to clearly separate work time from leisure time.
Welcome to the second episode of the Switch Off Sessions on The Good Life Well Lived podcast. There are more people working from home now than ever before and this is set to continue even after the Coronavirus restrictions are lifted. In this episode we share tips on how to separate work and home life so that the boundaries don't get blurred and you are able to switch off at the end of the working day.
This one is for you if you are new to working from home or if you have always worked from home and have had a new 'workmate' join you during the last six months.
Welcome to Series 3 of The Good Life Well Lived Podcast, dedicated to the Switch Off Sessions, where I share tools, strategies, and ideas that you can use to disconnect from the noise and the busyness around you, so that you can be present and focus on what truly matters in our life, work and relationships.
In this series we cover:

We structure our work and our life around the Gregorian calendar, set resolutions on the 1st January and set goals and objectives at the start of each calendar month. Sarah shares why this isn’t necessarily the right way to organise our time and how we can better work with our energy levels if we follow lunar cycles rather than traditional months. I found the idea of working with the moon utterly fascinating and it’s something that I’m going to try out for myself. Have a listen and see if it might work for you too.

By focusing on the present moment we will be able to embrace all that happens as life unfolds each day. This is your encouragement to enjoy each step on your journey of a good life well lived. It's the journey not the destination that matters.

I'll hold my hands up and admit that I am a recovering Busy Bee. Up until a couple of years ago I wore busy as a badge of honour and was the master of keeping all of the plates spinning, all of the time.
But I realised that my busyness was not making me happy. I wasn't prioritising the things that were important to me and that ticking things off the 'to do list' was utterly futile because there would just be more and more 'to dos' that would come along to get done.
I am all for encouraging people to live a rich and varied life, spending time with the people that matter and doing things that are important but that doesn't mean that you need to be constantly busy, stressed and overwhelmed.
In this week’s episode of The Good Life Well Lived podcast I share some advice and tips on how you can stop feeling busy all the time.

Welcome to Episode 23 of The Good Life Well Lived podcast and the third of our Summer Sessions, a series of bite size episodes to give you food for thought and help you take action to create your good life and live it well.
Today I introduce a simple, but if used correctly, incredibly powerful tool to help you find the balance you desire in your life. The Wheel of Life is a tool that I have used with colleagues, clients and programme attendees for a number of years. It allows you to assess where you are currently devoting your time, energy and attention and gives you the opportunity to decide if you need to make any adjustments. It seems deceptively simple however the impact can be truly transformational.
Let me talk you through how you can use the Wheel of Life and you can also access my Wheel of Life worksheet at nicolasemple.com/clarity
Welcome to Episode 22 of The Good Life Well Lived podcast and the second of our Summer Sessions, a series of bite size episodes to give you food for thought and help you take action to create your good life and live it well.
Today I ask the question of ‘Are you spending time with the right people?’. The people that we spend time with have a massive influence on the way we think, feel and on our overall well being and happiness. The radiators are the people that light you up, leave you feeling energised and happy to be alive. I also share some simple strategies to help you minimise the time you spend with drains and make the most of the radiators in your life.
The Good Life Well Lived Summer Sessions are bite size episodes to give you food for thought and help you take action to create your good life and live it well.

Life is busy which means we can feel like we are constantly spinning plates, waiting for one of them to crash to the ground. This episode of the podcast was inspired by a doodle that the brilliant Beta Mummy shared on Facebook earlier this week. Beta Mummy blogs and creates clever cartoon observations of parenthood and life in general. The work she creates is funny and incredibly relatable.
This week she shared a picture of Beta Mummy spinning all of the different plates in her life and we could see some of them coming crashing down to the ground. This reflects modern life in general but for working parents summer and Christmas are the two points in the year where the plate spinning seems to get even more out of control than normal.
In this episode I share some simple strategies to help you keep those plates under control and to help you do it with a smile on your face.
In this episode I share how to manage your energy so that you can get more done and feel less frazzled.
We're all familiar with the idea of time management and making the most of the time that we've got available to us however I believe that energy management is just as, if not more important.
We all have a finite supply of energy each day and that supply varies from person to person. I share some ideas on how you can maximise the amount of energy that you have in the first place and how you can best manage your 'pot of energy' to get the most out of your day.
