HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence sends off one of the biggest names ever in music. Clive Davis is hard to sum up. Passing away Monday at 94, Clive Davis was among the most important record company moguls. He started as an entertainment attorney, became a huge record executive, was a critical A&R guy — that's Artists and Repertoire, the people who signed the acts. He was a producer, a visionary who would pair artists with songs.
HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence welcomes back legendary American band Kool and The Gang, and band leader, bassist Robert "Kool" Bell. The band will perform tomorrow evening at Wet'n'Wild Hawaii, the waterpark in Kapolei, with the Friday night show their only concert in the islands. Back for his fifth time with Dave, Kool shares stories from their wild beginnings in Jersey City, and draws the connection to jazz giants like Thelonious Monk and Miles Davis, plus much more in this special chat.

HPR All Things Considered host Dave Lawrence offers up a remembrance of legendary guitarist Ace Frehley, lead guitarist and sometime vocalist for Kiss in the 1970s and early 1980s. Last Thursday Ace's family announced his passing after a fall led to a head injury, brain bleed, life support, and eventually, his being pulled from life support. In 2014, Ace Frehley was a guest, at the time supporting his Space Invader album. We also add some classic Kiss and Ace solo material for this feature.

Phil was a guest twice over the years relatively early in Dave's career: 2001 in Boston and 2005 here in Honolulu. Topics included Phil's philanthropic side; the 1978 Grateful Dead concerts in Egypt at the pyramids; the historic camping and vending scene that dead fans created and its conclusion in 1989; and Phil's own connection to the value of music education in schools.
