The money conversation between couples is most often a difficult one. It is rare that each person sees eye to eye on finances. Tragedy strikes when we least expect it. One moment our life is roses and rainbows and then BAM—something happens that totally throws a wrench in our life program. So what does an example of that recovery process possibly look like?
If you’ve ever watched a television show or movie about doctors or within a hospital setting, the interactions, most often exaggerated, are some pretty creative dramatic scenarios. So what’s the best way to know how to make our healthcare system work for you?
Wealth building is supposed to be as simple as spending less then you earn. Save your 20% and live within or below your means. But you and I both know doing that is not always as simple as it sounds. Life throws us unexpected curveballs, and large expenses like houses and cars cannot always be bought outright. As we mature, we begin to think of the legacy we will leave our children. Generational wealth is prominent in some families and less prominent in others. So, what exactly are the best strategies for financial stability to create generational wealth?
Spiritual healing is the ability of the mind and soul to repair certain ailments. These ailments are not just physical, but can also be mental or emotional. But how do we stay in touch with our spiritual self in union with the divine to accomplish our dreams and heal from our hurt?
Every task we perform has a process that if completed correctly from start to finish, yields a particular result. When building a business, it’s important to design systems that will result in the desired outcome no matter who performs the task. Creating effective business systems often unifies the problem-solving and decision-making of the organization. So why do businesses often overlook or under plan their business infrastructure?
There are dozens of studies that indicate children of today are dealing with all types of issues. From anxiety to depression, distractedness, and peer pressure to fit in. It is hard to believe children so young can be faced with these issues. Even as adults, it’s hard to remain positive consistently. So how do we best support our children socially and emotionally?
Securing your first job gives you a sense of independence. You earn money to take care of your needs and wants. Supposedly, a good rule of thumb is to save at least 20% of what you earn. Even if you love your job, you cannot work forever. You begin to think about retirement as you get deeper into your career. But how does one know how much they really need to retire?
Travis and Dr. Atina Young talk marriage and career. At some point in our lives, many of us have found that one person who we feel the ultimate connection to. We are so connected to this person that we decide we must join our lives together and continue the journey of life. Some couples choose to grow their cute twosome into a family with children. One person may work while the other stays home. Or one may be driven in their career and aspire for the top while the other chooses a career less demanding. But what happens when you both want to maintain your ambition and pursue demanding careers? What is the secret formula to finding the balance so everyone gets what they want, and no one feels unfulfilled?
Dr. Carlie Bell-Biggins talks CBD products. Homeostasis is the tendency to maintain a stable, relatively constant internal in the environment. The human body maintains homeostasis for many factors like temperature, blood flow, pH levels, sleep cycles, and the concentration of glucose. But sometimes there are physical ailments that disrupt these processes. The result may not allow normal functioning of the body. Millions of people take medications prescribed by medical doctors to treat these disruptions, but what if you could use something more natural to treat these sometimes fatal disruptions?
Justin Aldridge talks success mindset. Having the right mindset is important when it comes to achieving a goal you desire. Fear often keeps us from starting and will interrupt us from finishing. When we do not achieve an intended goal we often feel like we have failed. It is difficult to be vulnerable and expose our failures. But what if we look at our failures not as negative, but as positive learning opportunities to grow?
Dr. Jeanine Wilson talks virtual learning. Technology is a part of our every day life and for our children they do not know life without it. Children are great thinkers and the use of technology can encourage students to think in more creative and imaginative ways. The 2019-2020 school year was interrupted by an unprecedented event and the delivery of academic instruction changed. Although all children were in the same storm, it was quickly discovered they were not in the same boat to access school online.
Paula Ferrari talks parenting a child with special needs. We can choose our friends. We can choose our romantic partners. But one relationship human nature does not allow us to choose and/or control is our offspring. Even if your path to becoming a parent is through adoption, you do not know who the future little person will be that will change your life forever.
Chris and DeShanna talk interracial marriage and blending families. Wikipedia defines an interracial marriage as a form of marriage outside a specific social group involving spouses who belong to different races or racialized ethnicities. In the past, it was illegal to marry someone who is of a different race than you in the United States. Interracial marriage did not become legal throughout the US until 1967 following a decision from the Supreme Court case Loving v. Virginia.
Melanie Raby talks healthy eating. Food provides us the nutrients and energy we need to survive. Creating a plan with a balanced diet of all food groups is considered to be healthy eating. After all, the foods we eat have a great effect on our health and quality of life.
Lolita Guarin talks stress. There are events and situations in life that we can control and some that we cannot. All of us have so many demands placed upon us on a daily basis. Demands from our jobs, families, health, finances, friends, and life in general. Those demands can manifest themselves into stress.
Donoley Williams gives the scoop on public speaking. Public speaking is the process or act of performing a speech to a live audience. The ability to communicate out loud is a powerful tool that some of us absolutely dread and would rather shy away from. But for those of us who are up to the challenge, there's an organization that can help.
Catherine Harmon talks teenage dating from a Christian perspective. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, in kids age 13 to 17 about 35% have experienced a relationship deeper than a simple friendship. Teenage dating is a topic that is not always easy to discuss. It’s scary to know that you cannot protect this precious heart from getting broken.
Tristan Wright talks entrepreneurship. According to the SBA, over 627,000 new businesses open each year. Some achieve success while others close within the same year it opens. Starting a business is definitely not for the faint at heart. Most small business owners are a one-man show juggling all tasks at once while ensuring they stay afloat to make a profit. Time is a valuable commodity, but for an entrepreneur time is money.
Ryan Mahle talks about divorce. Till death do us part. That statement is usually included in the vows during marriage ceremonies between future spouses. But sometimes spouses part before death. It’s called divorce. Did you know there’s actually a National Divorce Day in January? I’m sure there’s no surprise at the alarming statistic of the number of marriages that end in divorce. Most of us know someone or even a couple of someones who’ve been through a divorce. Whether the marriage ends by death or divorce, they are both an emotional process.
If you stop and think about it, you realize that we exist in the world of competition. Now, this is something that a lot of people don’t feel comfortable thinking about. They don’t like to think about having to compete. They don’t like to view life as a win at all costs game. They would rather view the world as cooperative and collaborative. Instead of survival, we’d like to see that the rules in the game are shaded toward sharing. However, there is a problem with this way of thinking. It is absolutely unrealistic.
Perhaps the most important piece of information that any human being can possess is a clear view of who they are and how they fit into the world around them. We characterize this idea in several different ways — self-worth, self important, self reliance, and etc. However, no matter the moniker that we place on the idea, the critical nature of seeing one’s self as we truly are remains the same and undiminished.
Why is integrity so important? Without integrity, you don’t have self-respect. Without self-respect, you don’t have self-esteem.
Seeing problems as opportunities is the best possible way to be successful in anything you do in life. It’s a matter of perspective, so shouldn’t you adopt a perspective that will most lead you to success and not failure? Problems, change, stress – they’re all part of everyone’s life, no one is exempt or immune. Adaptability means seeing these things as the normal course of life.
Have you ever thought about your present level of faith? Your faith can either unlock the door to success for you or keep you from ever experiencing it. It can be a positive power by which you materialized the things you dream of, or you can be a negative power which causes you to live in despair. The faith I’m talking about is not religious or even spiritual; it is a belief or outlook on life, some might even call it optimism.
At the end of our lives, each one of us is the sum total of all our actions. When you look back on your life, what you did every day brought you to where you are now; what you will do every day from now on will determine your future. The better you are at taking responsibility for that fact, the more successful you will be. Taking responsibility for everything in your life is the difference between being a victor and managing your life or sitting back while your life manages you, making you a victim.
Self-esteem is at the root of more success stories and more failures in any other personality trait. Why is self-esteem so important? Because it controls the results of everything you do. It’s always with you, and it can be your strongest supporter or greatest enemy. You operate at the level of your self-esteem.
What is success? Well, the answer to that question largely depends on who you ask. There can be as many definitions as there are people on this Earth to this question. The multitude of differing opinions can make the entire issue of success very confusing. In addition, having so many options can make it difficult for anyone to decide for themselves what success means to them. Should a person let society tell them what success is or should each person make that decision on their own. The problem with letting someone else decide on the definition of success for you is that you greatly increase the chances that you would end up with a definition that doesn’t suit you. It’s a little bit like letting someone else order for you in a restaurant. You will certainly end up eating what they like, but you very likely won’t end up with the exact meal that suits your own tastes.
In a previous episode, I explored the power of self-discipline. I defined what self-discipline is and I showed why self-discipline is important. In addition, I discussed the foundational aspects of self-discipline and spoke about the synergistic power that these additional factors can have on self-discipline. At this point you’re probably more than ready to leave theory behind and begin learning the specifics involved in developing your own self discipline. This is where the information in this episode comes into play. I’m going to show you the step-by-step process that will result in you being able to clearly set specific goals and maintain focus on those goals until they are met.
I’m sure you know by now that developing self discipline is essential for anyone desiring to get more out of life. However, self-discipline isn’t an innate talent. No one is born with the self-discipline gene. That means that, in general, everyone is playing on the same level playing field when it comes to self-discipline. So, why is it that some people are obviously more self-discipline than others? The answer is practice.
What is it that would make you more centered, more secure, more you? Now, think about what is preventing you from getting the things that you want. What is it that is preventing you from setting and, more importantly, achieving significant life goals? The answer doesn’t lie with others. The answer is internal. It is only external in the sense that its results are manifested in the physical world.
Fate. Kismet. Destiny. Throughout human history, people of all cultures have used different words to describe the same idea that some events, perhaps all events, are predetermined. The concept behind the idea is that the average person has no power to control certain events, even when the events themselves negatively impact on that person’s life.
We live in a fast-paced world where we are having to make decisions 24/7. So it’s important to develop the ability to make decisions more quickly. In this episode I will be giving you tips on how to make faster and quicker decisions.
In this very short episode, I will give you nine handy tips to make your decision smarter and better.
I told you to practice your decision-making as a way to get better at it. What I haven’t told you is how to start making better and more confident choices. That’s what this episode is all about. Keep in mind that not all decisions need to be this involved. Most actually won’t be. What I’m going to do is walk you through the individual steps of a decision making process. Most of the steps will be for bigger decisions, I encourage you to work through each step as they apply to your situation or decision, rather. Before long you won’t need to think about the individual steps anymore. They will become an Intercal part of your own decision making process.
Take a guess. How many decisions does the average person make per day? It’s about 70. That’s a lot of decision making and choices to be made, isn’t it? Of course, that doesn’t include all the little things we do on autopilot or make a habit, like deciding to brush our teeth twice a day. In short, we make a lot of decisions on a daily basis. You could say that they drive our lives. We also make more decisions now than ever in the history of humankind. We certainly have more choices than our ancestors did. It starts with simple things like the clothing and food that’s available to us.
How many decisions have you made so far today? What about last week? Chances are they were quite a lot of them. Many of them are small decisions like what to wear, what to eat for breakfast, or which road to take to go to the store. Others are a lot harder like choosing which college to attend, what task to work on first at work, or what house to buy.
It’s not hard to know when someone is a good friend. Good friends exhibit patterns of behavior that are positive and make you feel good. Likewise you’re doing things for them that make them feel good as well. In general, these behaviors can be broadly classified into three general categories integrity, caring, and congeniality. Each of these broad categories are themselves comprised of small individualized behaviors. In order for you to understand the qualities that you should be looking for in your inner circle,I have given you three different episodes where I have been discussing the categories of behavior that compose a great inner circle. Stay tuned after this episode for a Bonus Episode: Building Your Inner Circle.
The ability to empathize with those around you is a uniquely human ability. Unfortunately, empathy often gets confused with sympathy. Sympathy is the act of feeling compassion and sorrow for another person’s situation. Their plight causes you to have feelings of your own about what they’re going through, but you have no real understanding or insight about how they feel. Furthermore, sympathy isn’t limited to one person. You can be sympathetic to whole groups of people and even to things that are non-tangible, like causes or movements.
As consensus builders, we tend to reflect the opinions and taste, the likes and dislikes of the people around us. The more time we spend with certain people, the more we begin to reflect who they are and what they stand for. There’s really no way to stop this phenomenon. It is as real and instinctual as the flinch that occurs when something unexpected comes towards your face and just as hard to control.
We as human beings are not only social animals, we are also consensus builders. In order to be social, we have to want to avoid conflict and promote harmony. If you think about it from an evolutionary standpoint, conflict is ultimately non-productive. An organism that is in constant conflict with the environment around it is, by definition, not appropriate for that environment. Furthermore, if you don’t find ways to fit into the environment that you find yourself in, you’re going to lose out to another organism that has found ways to make the environment its home.
We are social animals. The vast majority of us need the company of others in order to function and feel fulfilled. That’s why nearly everything that we do is built on a social framework. We play in groups. Nearly all our games and sports require multiple people being involved. We work in groups. Nearly all of our jobs are performed as a member of a team or a group. We learn in groups. From grade school to graduate school we are educated together in class and in classes.
Confidence is very liberating. When you have it, you quit worrying about what everyone else is thinking about you and that no one is constantly looking over your shoulder all the time and noting each failure. You’ll pay less attention to criticism and more attention to the words and actions that are going to get you where you want to be.
It’s only human to feel some doubts and fears when you begin to spread your confidence wings. Some days your confidence may simply seem fragile and feel as if the least little thing can set you back to withdraw and make you fall from the success ladder. Your confidence may waver from day to day or minute by minute depending on your physical and mental well-being. Included is a Bonus Episode called How To Get Rid Of Confidence Killers.
The last step in gaining confidence in yourself is to seek the experience you need for the goals you want to reach. If you want to be a doctor, you must set goals for medical school, residency, and setting up your private practice. If you desire to become a writer, you must write! Write for money or for yourself, but spend some time honing your craft.
Confidence involves revamping your image to reveal the type of person and personality you want to become. A fashion designer may be able to get away with more “abstract” clothing and hair styles than the CEO of a very conservative company. After you know where your confidence level is on the chart of presenting the correct image, you can change some things. Take a close look at people you admire and want to emulate and pay attention to their body language and other areas of how they present themselves and strive to revamp your image accordingly.
You won’t get anywhere with new found confidence if you’re not assertive. Assertiveness will take you to the next level of confidence and help you get your feet wet in the confidence arena. As you build your confidence to new heights, you’ll feel less frightened and have fewer doubts about expressing yourself. Your negative self talk can become a thing of the past if you learn this important step to confidence.
Once you’ve assessed your confidence level, it’s time to learn how to prepare for the challenges ahead that you’re sure to face in your confidence journey. You don’t have to be preparing for the Olympics to realize the need for preparation and organization before facing challenges.
You can’t really know where to begin with your confidence building journey unless you know where you are on the confidence chart. This episode provides a way to assess your current level of confidence so you can better know which areas need work.
When you lack confidence you’re putting yourself in jeopardy of losing the success you’re capable of before you even begin to try. In this eight-part podcast series, I will be guiding you through the maze of building the confidence you need to get you through almost anything in life you’re trying to accomplish.
