All of us have a calendar. Whether it is written or whether it is felt, we structure our lives in one way or another. The career-driven person has a work-week schedule; the new parent structures their life around the cry of their infant; and the entertainment-addicted modern shapes their rhythms around Netflix and new cinema releases. Each of us adopt a rhythm to the lives that we live.
Now, this wouldn’t be so serious if the rhythms we adopt did nothing to us. But they do. The rhythms we adopt, the habits we entertain, and the practices we put ourselves through—these are not just things we do, these are all things that do something to us. In fact, this is how people are formed. Psychologists know this; dieticians know this; neurologists know this; and, believe it or not, ancient wisdom writers knew this. Every rhythm, every habit, every practice—they all, for better or worse, carry us toward an image of the good life. The question we need to ask ourselves is not whether we’re being formed into something; but what we’re being formed into.
For the Christian, the image of the good life comes to us in Jesus. Jesus is the king in whose kingdom we want to live; Jesus is the person we want to follow after; and Jesus is the character we want to transform into. Dallas Willard, in his book The Great Omission, said, “The greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether those who, by profession or culture, are identified as ‘Christians’ will become disciples – students, apprentices, practitioners – of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to live the life of the Kingdom of the Heavens into every corner of human existence.” This is the journey of spiritual formation. Or, in other words, discipleship.
“Rhythms”—which we’re using as a catch-all term to refer to the calendar, habits, and practices in our lives—exists to help God’s people to take their formation seriously; to see it as a vital part of their discipleship. Humans are creatures that get both deformed through the everyday, so we need to be able to be Christ-formed through the everyday. Richard Foster, the modern writer on all things spiritual disciplines, says, “The discovery of God lies in the daily and the ordinary, not in the spectacular and the heroic. If we cannot find God in the routines of home and shop, then we will not find Him at all.” In this series, as years progress, we will teach on the spiritual disciplines with the hope that it would give our people a robust understanding of spiritual formation, an ever-increasing practice of spiritual disciplines, and a more obvious sense that we’re becoming more like Jesus.

The Christian story is not silent to these questions.
Not unrelated, the question for the Christian is, “How do we live out our faith at work?” Typically, this topic gets addressed through the prism of two larger categories: faith and work. The problem with this is that it suggests that “faith” is already something separate from “work”; that faith seems like something Christians do on a Sunday and work is something they do throughout the week. More than that, it means that faith can easily become a set of ideas we feel we just need to talk about to our colleagues or friends, rather than having a fully-orbed framework for what it means to be a faithful presence at work, to do work faithfully, and to let the kingdom permeate our calling with word and deed. We’re excited to share with you that it’s time once again for us to step out in faith as we take up the incredible opportunity to establish Newlife Coolangatta. We must LEAN IN & rise up to the call of God on our lives but first we must LEAN ON our God - to be a worshipper before a warrior. She also drew from the supporting men in Deborah’s life Barak and Lappidoth. Barak a man of God, humble and respectful of Deborah and Lappidoth, a secure man who sought to see Deborah fly. This is an example of the power of men and women working together with mutual respect, honor, and humility.
We loved having Katie Iles with us for Mothers Day sharing that Jesus is the living water that people are searching for. People are coming to church and into the house of God because of what's inside. They just want Jesus!
Way back in 1982, back when I was ‘peak-mullet’, I had moved to Adelaide, while Sue was finishing school in Naracoorte. We’d already been dating three years. There was no email, messenger, whatsapp, mobile phones or texting. Communication was limited to the occasional and expensive ‘long distance’ phone call, after 8pm on a Sunday night when the rates were cheaper, as well as good old fashioned snail mail - hand written letters.
As I recall, there were lots of letters tracking backwards and forwards on the Duke Highway that year. I loved getting a letter from Sue; a letter from home. I would read it, read it again, and then some more. Every letter spoke of the ordinary, as well as the extraordinary - that this amazing young woman loved me through and through. With every letter received I was inspired to respond in kind. While this was a long distance conversation, the physical separation we still experienced was narrowed by the strength of the emotional connection catalysed by all those letters.
The fourth century church father Augustine said that ‘the Holy Scriptures are our letters from home.’ I love this. Every time I open my bible and prayerfully read, love dances across the page. Through its grand narrative God speaks of, and demonstrates radical love for me, and I’m caught up again in the beauty and wonder of a Divine Romance I neither deserved, nor expected. Any gap I feel between me and God narrows; in fact there are moments when reading my bible I sense God up close, and very personal. And with my frail hand and fallible heart, in my journal I pour out my jumbled thoughts and feelings. And I sense God smiling on me as I do.

What are you afraid of, and from what exactly do you hide? Why does the message burn brightly on Sunday, but on Monday hides deep inside? Who told you to be silent, afraid of hurting or slight? When what would help a world in darkness, is a people who chose to be light.
Too long has the darkness gone without an answer. Too long has our world been trapped by its evil cancer. As Christians in our world, shine their light dim. Afraid that others might be offended by a fearless messenger of the king. We wouldn’t hold back the cure for some ailment or sickness. Then why do we hide the truth from those who need our witness?
Have we so easily forgotten, have those words slipped our mind? That when our saviour promised power, we could the powers of darkness bind. The Spirit that lies inside us breaks opens graves. Unshackles the oppressed, restores the broken unscathed. It reminds us our worst day isn’t our last of all. And that there is forgiveness for any, whenever we fall.
Why do we imitate the sickness, that we try to resolve? Our darkness won’t drive out darkness, only with light will it dissolve. This light, of the gospel, is the hope we share. And there is nothing else in the world that can bring that power to bear. For this world to find hope now is the time, this is the hour. For us, His beloved children, to stop being ashamed of this power. For we, his imago dei, to seize tomorrow for the lost. We weren’t saved to be seated but sent, no matter the cost.
So uncover your gifts people of God. Use the gifts for his glory. That your life might shine a better truth invite others to a greater story. No matter the opposing force, power or might. May we choose to stand on the rock. May we choose to be light.
Stu shared at our anointing services on Sunday and reminded us how good our God is, how beautiful the gospel is, and how blessed we are. Grace is the undeserved, unearned, unmerited, favour of God. Our God is a good God!!

On Sunday we had week two of our Love Does sermon series with Jon Morris teaching on the importance of our words. Every chance we get we should be speaking out words of encouragement, words of life, words of truth, words of healing, words of hope.
In Ephesians 4:29 we read: Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

We were delighted to hear from one of our church elders, Dr Daniel Pampuch on Sunday as he shared about God's big story. We have something the world desperately needs which is hope. And that hope is found in Jesus Christ.
CS Lewis says, "Hope is one of the Theological virtues. This means that a continual looking forward to the eternal world is not (as some modern people think) a form of escapism or wishful thinking, but one of the things a Christian is meant to do."

Such a great message on being grateful, thankful and celebrating who God is. Thanksgiving is transformed into praise which becomes joy-filled adoration. And adoration is what we were designed for. To enjoy God's presence and to adore him for who he is!

Jesus has come to seek and save the lost. He who was with God, in heaven, in Glory, the one who created all things, the one who breathed every one of us into existence, clothed himself with the frailty of creation that he might seek and save us!
Jesus, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness - Philippians 2:6-7
Prayer is all about intimacy with God. It is the adoring submission of the creature to the Creator. Our intimacy with God is the greatest weapon we have against the darkness. Why do we pray? So that we might be intimate with God.

They can never be left the same again."

Jon Morris shares on the power of evangelism. The greatest single cause of atheism in the world today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable. The more time we spend with God, the more we become like Him. The more we become like Him, the more we see God working in our lives. The more we see God working in our lives, the more others see it too.

After years of dreaming,planning and building, on November 3, 2013 we held our first worship celebration in our new expanded facilities at Robina. More than 1500 people gathered to rejoice in God and all he has done. The theme of the service, and of this message, is that the church is like a stained glass window - fractured pieces brought together to form a whole, through which the light of Christ shines.
The church is called to be a place of spiritual sanctuary and refuge that reflects the love and light of Christ. To fulfill this calling, like the ancient cities of refuge, the church will constantly adapt, open wide its gates, remove every obstacle and show the way - all for the spiritual fugitives it seeks to reach.
Justice in the ancient world was swift and brutal. It was an eye for an eye, life for life era. To guard against innocent blood being spilled, God provided Israel with six Cities of Refuge - sanctuaries for fugitives on the run. These were cities of grace. What relevance, if any, does this ancient Old Testament teaching have for 21st century New Testament Christians?
