Vince Lombardi famously said “Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.” And George Steinbrenner said “Winning is the most important thing in my life, after breathing. Breathing first, winning next.” And, of course the best quote about winning is from Reese Bobby - "If you ain’t first, you're last."
No matter how you say it, winning and losing has an important place in our culture, and it's infiltrated our faith. Check out three things I'm learning about how my competitive nature leaks into what I believe about God and how to treat people.

Some people call it a pecking order because apparently it’s a chicken phenomenon too. It’s starts with bullies in school. A pursuit of power and leverage. In some cases those middle school bullies don’t grow up. You may think of power as something that someone else has, but every time you tell your kids that they can’t have dessert until they finish their meatloaf you are exercising power. Every time you withhold a tip from a slow waitress you are exercising power. What you do when you have the power matters, and it can literally make the world better or worse.

What could cause a teenage boy to scream Air Supply lyrics at the top of his lungs? What would cause a clear thinking woman to binge watch Hallmark movies during the holidays? What would cause a full-grown man to weep uncontrollably during a a preschool graduation? What would cause a college student to sell all of his earthy belongings and buy a .125 carrot diamond? The answer of course - Love.We can’t draw a picture of love, we can’t create a statue of love. We can’t see it, or hear it…all we can do is see the consequences of love. All we can do is see where love has been and take in the shrapnel and path of destruction it leaves...and it's all worth it!Support the show (http://www.john-mitchell.me)
