From the "You find inspiration in the strangest places" department: I roadtripped to York, PA last weekend to see my 10-year-old niece perform Lady Antebellum's "American Honey" in her 4th grade school talent show (nice job Abby, you were AWESOME!) where I sat in the audience with my 12-year-old nephew Jacob. Several of the vocal and dance acts featured some pretty catchy songs that I'd never heard before, so we dimmed the screens on our smartphones and started punching in the lyrics to find out who the artists were. (Selena Gomez was the evening's big winner, with two appearances of "Shake It Up" and one "Round & Round"). The next morning, I pulled up the Billboard Top 40 chart and downloaded some tracks, and then Jake schooled me on the State of Pop 2011. "Rocketeer?" "That's a good song!" "We R Who We R?" "That's not good, but people like it." And so on. So I loaded up the iPod with dancefloor versions of our thumbs-up picks, and then on the drive back to New York my wife and I whittled them down to the "A" list. (BTW, M. A. and I are both of the opinion that any Britney "Hold It Against Me" remix that does not include that awesome gut-shaking dubstep break is going straight to the back of the crate!)

So after being completely immersed in Top 40 for the past 5 days, I'm pleased to present to you this week's show, "POP!". There are 43 (!!!) songs in this 1-hour set, which works out to about a song every little-over-a-minute or so. DJ Earworm's crazy-cool "Don't Stop The Pop" gets the party started mashup-style, and then I jump in and dive deeper. I'll be building a video for this set over the next week to play out at a couple of shows at the end of the month, look for it here shortly. In the meantime, please enjoy: POP!
