Vroon Offshore Services (VOS) is a leading maritime offshore-services supplier with offices in Aberdeen (UK), Den Helder (NL), Genoa (IT) and Singapore (SG). They operate 85 ships:
- Anchor-handling tug supply vessels (AHTS)

Olivier started his maritime career in 2003, as an apprentice at Jumbo Maritime. Since then, he has occupied several positions at sea and ashore. He is currently responsible for all QHSE matters in the Den Helder office. As of january 2022, he will become QA Manager for the entire global fleet.

For some, service in in their blood. For others, it's something difficult to understand.Jeanet Blokdeals with it every day. She helps clients to fulfill their obligations to comply with mandatory nautical safety regulations at Datema.
Statutory safety equipment plays an important role in our industry. The service department of LISA's Premium Member Datema Nautical Safety, takes care of all needs concerning the testing and certification of safety- and rescue equipment all over the world. Whether it is adjusting a compass, inspecting lifejackets, immersion suits, air breathing equipment, an onboard inspection of the EEBD, the fire extinguishers or the CO2 system.
As an approved service supplier, recognized by the major classification societies, they need to be on top of their game. I am curious to find out how this works. And more concrete, are there any new regulations on the horizon?

With their fleet of gas tankers, Anthony Veder is specialized in the transport of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Petrochemical gases, such as Ethylene and Propylene. They are pioneers by being the first with fast cooling Ethylene carriers fueled by LNG and the first one in small scale LNG. Furthermore, they conducted the first LNG operations such as ship to ship and ship to truck transfers, bunkering, and gassing-up LNG terminals. They have been successful in bringing LNG to places where previously natural gas was not available.
Geert is an experienced marine professional, working in our industry for twenty years. He has been active at several shipowners and ship managers, like Nile Dutch Africa Line, Q-Shipping, Marlow Navigation and Ahrenkiel Steamship. He occupied positions such as Project Manager, Fleet Manager and Managing Director.

Let's head towards the Baltic, to meetEgle Mikalauskiene. She is the head of sales for ship design at Western Baltic Engineering in Lithuania.
Egle studied at the London Metropolitan University, worked at the Klaipeda Chamber of Commerce and started her own business: trading vintage collectable pieces to various galleries around the globe. In 2019, she joined Western Baltic Engineering.
Western Baltic Engineering is one of the leading ship design & engineering service providers in the Baltic region, specialising in design and technical support for ship building, offshore & maritime industry solutions.
Since 2003, the company has successfully built a reputation of a reliable, flexible, innovative and ‘always on time’ partner with extensive ‘know-how’. Western Baltic Engineering is one of the strategic subsidiaries of Western Shipyard Group and part of the BLRT Grupp.

Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven started his career as a trainee at Heerema Offshore Services in 1986 and then joined Genius Offshore Services as a Field Engineer on a project in the Red Sea in Egypt. After holding management positions in the offshore industry he moved to mining company Harsco Metals & Minerals. In 2005 he was appointed as managing director of the company in South Africa where he was responsible for 13 of Harsco’s sites.
He joined Heerema Fabrication Group in 2013 as Chief Executive Officer. He holds a Bachelor in Civil Engineering of the Institute of Technology of Haarlem and Master of Business Administration of the Kingston University. As per June 1, 2018 Koos-Jan has been appointed CEO of Heerema Marine Contractors.
Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) is a world leading marine contractor in the international offshore oil and gas and renewables industry. HMC excels at transporting, installing and removing offshore facilities. HMC manages the entire supply chain of offshore construction, from design through to completion. Headquartered in Leiden, their services encompass engineering, planning, logistics, project management and execution of projects all over the world.
They have a passionate workforce and a fleet that includes formidable heavy lift and construction vessels.

The shipyard is located in the mainport of Rotterdam and provides access to vessels upto 320 meters long. But his professional team offer a range of repair, (de)mobilization, ship conversions and maintenance services around the globe. Martin has been active in shipbuilding and services his entire professional life. In 2013 he was able to take over the shipyard. Since then, he has grown the company into a trusted partner for clients around the world to provide dockside and on-site services.

AEGIR-Marine is an independent stern seal and propulsion service provider and PRIME products manufacturer for the global maritime industry. They are OEM independent; they can service and provide spare parts for all major propulsion and stern seal systems.
Ruud Muis co-founded AEGIR-Marine in 2000, with an almost obsessive focus on service. Not as a marketing tool, but as a strategy towards their clients: they really care.
But that's just one part of Ruuds endeavors. He supports many initiatives, ranging from education and entrepreneurship in the Philippines, to cultural heritage of traditional ships in Wijk bij Duurstede. He started his own Brewery: Stadsbrouwerij de Dikke and most recently, became Board Member of Netherlands Maritime Technology.

It's time to meet withWillem Keesom, Captain at Van Wijngaarden Marine Services. We planned to have this conversion when he was onboard the Lingestroom, but due to bad weather we missed an opportunity to sit down. So we call him while he is on leave.
Willem started his career at 17, sailing seagoing tugs for towage operations and anchor handling. He climbed the ranks to become captain at the age of 23. Twenty years in his career, he recently joined Van Wijngaarden Marine Services.
Van Wijngaarden Marine Services offers towing services, transport, anchor handling and survey activities. They have a fleet of 16 ships for deep-sea, coastal and inland waters. They assist worldwide at dredging and a variety of offshore projects. In addition to that they execute towing trips. They support with the construction and maintenance of offshore and renewables projects, like windfarms at sea. Other services are geotechnical activities and seabed levelling in harbours and fairways.

Annually more than 17.000 inspections take place on board foreign ships in the Paris MoU ports, ensuring that these ships meet international safety, security and environmental standards, and that crew members have adequate living and working conditions.
The Paris MoU Organization consists of 27 maritime Administrations and covers the waters of the European coastal States and the North Atlantic basin from North America to Europe. It's secretariat is based in The Hague, The Netherlands and we've met its Secretary Maarten Vlag for another Ask me Anything session.

Piet is the person behind the successfulShipping News Clippings, a Daily Collection of Maritime Press Clippings that reaches 43.000+ readers around the globe, including many seafarers sailing the high seas. Literally every day: 365 days a year for almost 20 years in a row.
Piet is a self made man. His fascination for the maritime world started at a very young age when he could see ships sailing in and out the port of Rotterdam. First from his home in Maassluis, later in Hoek van Holland. His maritime career started at the age of 16, when he boarded tug SMIT LONDON as a messboy. He stayed with Smit International to climb the ranks all the way to Captain.
Piet has many stories to share: from working in the Gulf during the Iran/Iraq war in the eighties with bombs flying everywhere, the raising of the Russian submarine Kursk, his current life in Singapore and the evolution of the Clippings that started as a favour for friends.

At October 27th, we've explored the world of one of our Premium Members: Holland Shipyards Group, when we meet-up with their Commercial Director: Marco Hoogendoorn.

They operate a fleet of approximate 30 ships, including advanced diesel-electric DP1 survey vessels, DP2 geotechnical drilling vessels and DP2 ROV Support Vessels.
But Oigen has more to offer. He also assists Van Wijngaarden Marine Services to optimise their IT infrastructure on board and datacommunications from and to their vessels. At September 24th 2020, we've met with Izak van Rhijn, superintendent at Wagenborg Shipping. Izak was the first participant of LISA's Maritime24 event in 2018. We were delighted that he spend time with us, and willing to share some insights in his work at one of the largest Shipowners in The Netherlands.
Royal Wagenborg is an international maritime logistics conglomerate. The family owned and managed company offers a variety of maritime services with regard to shipping, ports & terminals and offshore services. They own and manage a versatile fleet of 180+ ships, ranging from general cargo ships, tugs, offshore vessels and ferries. They also provide warehousing, road transport and lifting services.
Wagenborg Shipping manages a flexible fleet box shaped, ice-strengthened multipurpose vessels under Dutch flag, ranging in size from 1,700 to 23,000 tonnes. At September 16th 2020, we've met with another seasoned professional: Diederik Van Halsema. Diederik currently works as Fleet Manager for DC Dredging. We were interested to learn more about his work: the market of marine and fluvial aggregates, the technical management of seagoing dredgers, projects, challenges and opportunities for the future.
DC Dredging is a dredging and transport company for the construction industry. Its main sphere of activity encompasses dredging and the production of marine and fluvial aggregates, as well as different types of sand. They are part of de Belgium De Cloedt Group, with activities in exploitation, production and commercialization of a number of materials, such as sand, gravel, limestone and recycled construction materials, concrete, silt and cement. They also process contaminated soil, mineral waste and carrying out full soil decontamination projects on site.
From Breskens, they manage their own 7 sea-going Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers: with hopper capacity ranging between 1600 m³ and 5450 m³. They operate their own quay and depots, as well as some sucking dredgers with disintegration, commonly called cutter, for the exploitation of sand pits.

At September 9th 2020, we've met with a seasoned professional: Frank Winter. Frank is freelance professional, active at numerous interesting projects as Captain and DP Operator for companies like Boskalis, Scaldis, Jan de Nul, Heerema and Jumbo.
Today, he was held in quarantine in Taiwan, awaiting to board the Jumbo Javelin. A perfect moment for us to meet-up and discuss work, projects, opportunities and co-operation.

In de tweede aflevering ga ik in gesprek met Jan Reier Arends. Jan Reier is zeeman en ondernemer. In 1993 richtte hij JR Shipping op en bouwde, jaar in jaar uit, aan een vloot container feeder schepen. Daarnaast zette hij SeaZip op om de offshore wind markt te kunnen bedienen met multicats. Vandaag de dag managen ze ook schepen voor derden, waaronder de Clipper Stad Amsterdam.

Voor de lancering van LISA ging ik in gesprek met de directies van Van Wijngaarden Marine Services, JR Shipping en Boomsma Shipping. Dat waren zulke leuke gesprekken dat we hebben besloten om deze als audio file in de community te zetten. En daarmee creëren we in feite een nieuwe podcast.
Ik ga hem de PROUD TO BE MARITIME podcast noemen. Gewoon om aan te geven dat we trots mogen zijn op onze sector en het werk dat we doen.
De eerste aflevering is met Peter van Wijngaarden. Peter is Managing Director van Van Wijngaarden Marine Services. Een familiebedrijf uit Hardinxveld-Giessendam. Ze beheren 16 werkschepen die ingezet worden bij de waterbouw en offshore, voeren sleepdiensten uit en verzorgen transport. Op de dag van ons gesprek wordt hun nieuwste schip, de Kilstroom, gedoopt en in de vaart genomen.
