Thank you for joining us this episode. Welcome to new and returning viewers. Thank you to our Patreon support community – I hope you are enjoying our next 51 SAL challenge, which are ‘semi’ yarns. In this week’s show, we chat about a couple of community questions, including a follow up from a previous Spinning Growth submission. She’s started knitting her socks and they look great – it’s amazing how far we can push our yarns, even when we think they are ‘less than’. We answer a question about thwacking: When, why, do I have to? A great discussion to say the least. Thank you to Chat for your enthusiasm and conversations – you make the show so much richer for your contributions. Enjoy the show!

Welcome to the show! Happy New Year! For many, we are well into the swing of January and the new season but I hope your holiday break was lovely, restful and full of making. Do you have any plans or goals for the new year? Anything you’d like to accomplish? I know there are a few in the community who are hoping to make this the year of their handspun sweaters – very exciting! In the show this week, I chat about our Breed and Colour Study of Masham and the colourway, ‘Starry Night’ that Katrina developed for us. I share a couple of finished objects, including a wrap in some handspun singles and my Radiate sweater by Joji Locatelli. It’s amazing what we can do when we have some quiet time! Lastly, we get into a large spinning growth about colour management. Enjoy the show!

Thank you for joining us this week! It is our last show for 2018 – thank you to those who took time out of their schedule to spend the almost 2 hours it took to record since we had some technical difficulties with Internet halfway through. Welcome to new viewers of the show, thank you to those who are returning and a special shout-out to those who are patrons of the show. I appreciate all of your support! This month, we talked about an interesting spinning growth that re-enforced for us that swatching is really important and in fact, they can ‘lie’ to us without swatching large enough, adjusting needle sizes and taking into account general knitting changes as we work on our project. Next, we delve into the sample skein I’ve started for the current Breed & Colour Studies. Some have started receiving their fibre, some have even started spinning so please head over to the Ravelry group to share! We then discussed my finished Hawser yarn – what an interesting plying test. This yarn is probably the most difficult yarn to ply I’ve ever made. I gave a very brief update on my Noel yarn – I’ve really made no progress on it this past week. Lastly, I share my progress on my Radiate pullover that I’ve started in the past week. The yarn is deep stash that I spun in 2015 from Westcoast Colour. I’m loving the knit thus far and will share my progress next time! I hope you enjoy the show – Happy Holidays & a safe, happy, healthy New Year to you and yours!

Thank you to those who joined us this week on the live stream – your time means a lot to me and I appreciate spending this time with you all. To those who are returning or new viewers of the show, welcome! This week, we chatted about an extra fine Merino & Bamboo spin that was our feature for Spinning Growth. We discussed tension, managing flyaway fibres and over-plying for certain situations. Next, we chatted about socks at great length. I discussed the fabric that I’ve created recently from opposing 3-ply to smooth 4-ply fabric. We talk about the surface of the fabrics and the differences. Lastly, I share some swatching I’ve been doing and I discuss the finishing touches that I made to my Sparkle Cardigan by Joji Locatelli. I give a brief update on the book Katrina and I are working on – we are hoping to have it released in the Spring. I hope you enjoy the show this week!

Thank you for joining us this week. Welcome to new and returning viewers. Thank you especially to the patrons of the community. You can learn more about how to support the show here. Congratulations to Jessica and Carolyn this month for winning the monthly & calendar giveaway! This week, I introduced our current colours for the Breed & Colour Study. We will be studying Masham, using a photo submitted by Megan of lykkemeg (Ravelry). We discussed these colours at length & I hope you are looking forward to the study as much as I am! For patrons of the show, please watch your email for the link to be sent to you November 23rd to get started! Later that day, the listing will be made public for everyone to participate. Please don’t feel that you need to purchase fibre to participate — just grab some Masham, dye your own or use something already dyed, and jump in with us! The chatter link is here. Post finished yarns and projects here. For the remainder of the show, we chatted about a finished spin that I worked to finish but the finished yarn bled during the washing and created some interesting effects. I could be disappointed but I can’t do anything about it so I am going to go with it! I also give you an update on my Sparkle cardigan. We have a large Spinning Growth segment this week, as well, and I wanted to thank Jillaine for her detail she gave during her post on Ravelry to reflect on this project.

Thank you for tuning in this week! This is a little late being released because I had the pleasure of spending the weekend with some of my favourite fibre people. I’ll tell you about my weekend next show. In the meantime, we chatted about my Sparkle Cardigan progress, a woven blanket that I finished but was interrupted countless times during the process and some singles yarn I made on a whim! Welcome to new viewers – thank you for joining us. Thank you to returning viewers and as always, especially thank you to our Patreon community who keeps the show on the air month-after-month. We are exploring a lot of sock content right now in the Patreon community so if you’d like to hear and read about all of that content, please check out this reward tier so that you don’t miss out on anything. Thank you for tuning in this week! We had to move the Live Stream one week early due to an unbelievable number of field trips this month. I love the Fall and the cool, crisp mornings, which are perfect for wearing sweaters and shawls; however, the number of pumpkin patch trips is a bit overwhelming. There’s the actual pumpkin patch visits and then follow-up ‘pumpkin days’ that involve experiments and decorating (I’m thinking that means carving but knives in school is probably not a thing so …?). While they will be fun, it meant moving the stream dates. I hope it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience. The next date for patrons has been posted here. I updated some of the goals that we are working towards on Patreon – please have a read at the ‘Goals’, which are listed on the left-hand sidebar of the home page. Of particular note are regular “secret” monthly making vlogs in which I bring you along with me on my making throughout the month. While on the podcast, I chat about all of my projects that are in progress and finished, I don’t actually take you along with with me as I make. I thought this would be a great opportunity for me to share with you techniques I’m trying, thoughts on certain projects “in the moment” if you will, and overall to understand my process a bit more. Some of these will be live streamed! Also, I wanted to mention a really big change coming to Wool n’ Spinning Radio. For those who are already patrons of the show, you will know that this is the audio podcast that accompanies the show. I’ve had guests on the show, as well as patrons in our own community. It’s taken a while for the show to ‘find its voice’ so-to-speak but after many conversations about our venture together, makerRadio, Katrina and I have come together to continue making a podcast together but now only on Wool n’ Spinning Radio. Having two separate podcasts, in essence three when we take into account the videocast, is difficult to maintain but combining what makerRadio was and Wool n’ Spinning Radio is creates a sort-of new podcast for you! This will continue to be available for patrons monthly, and those subscribed to the early bird content will receive the show on the 1st of every month (barring issues) and then the entire community will have access come the 7th. Katrina and I will be chatting about topics we find relevant at the time, quotes and ideas we come across (or are shared by the community), and the ongoing breed and colour studies, as we’ve been doing. We will also invite guests on to chat with us, like we did in August with Becca, and maybe even turn on the webcam once in a while to record the show in person as a video (it would still be released in audio but a video link to YouTube would also be provided). I hope you’ll tune in to listen!

Thank you for tuning in this week! For those who made it to the Live Stream, thank you for your time. The links didn’t work at first but I re-loaded the Patreon post and then we were smooth sailing. Thank you for baring with me. Welcome to new and returning viewers – I appreciate you joining us here! This week, I award all the prizes for Tour de Fleece – Congratulations to the winners! Thank you to everyone who participated – it’s a really fun thing to do during July every year. Next, we cover a brief Spinning Growth chat and then, I chat about my Llama & Silk blend that I’d plied last time but hadn’t washed, finished and re-skeined yet. Lastly, we spend quite a bit of time talking about sock yarn, my current sock project and a new sock spin on the wheel with opposing plies, the theoretical advantages and thoughts for more sock yarn experiments. Enjoy the show!

Thank you to new and returning viewers of the show – I appreciate your presence. To those who support the show through Patreon, thank you for continuing to do so! This episode is a mini-show to talk about a new segment that we will be introducing from now on in the show. It will be called “Spinning Growth” and I hope you will engage with me on this journey to reflect, learn and grow from our previous projects that maybe weren’t as awesome as we’d planned. Let’s face it, we all have projects like this! I’ve given an example in this episode of how these discussions will go, although we are missing the very informative and helpful discussions from the Live Chat. We will have to wait for their input next episode!

Thank you so much for tuning in this week! This past week, it was brought to my attention that Episode 70 and 90 weren’t available and sure enough! They were still ‘locked’ so if you watched them through iTunes or Patreon, they were there but on YouTube directly, they were still unavailable. They are there now and I hope you enjoy 3 (!!) episodes this week if you missed those other two. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the show – I appreciate your patronage and enthusiasm of everything spinning related! We have been delving into plant-based fibres this past month and will continue to do so until we start our next Breed & Colour Study later in the Spring. This week, I share two finished objects – a shawl that I started back in the Fall and a skein of massive quantity. I hope you enjoy this week’s ramblings. The next live stream for Patrons will April 3rd at our regular time! Mark your calendars!

Next, I shared a spin in progress than I was really hoping would be finished today but hopefully next time! Lastly, I share my knitting and am excited to be on the home stretch.

Thank you for joining me this week! We will have a shorter than usual show since I am still fighting off this Laryngitis and my voice won’t last through an hour long show. We cover a little (tiny) bit of housekeeping that includes reminding you about a giveaway. Head to the Ravelry group to enter. Then we chat about plying and finishing a massive spin I’ve been working on since October 2017. It feels really good to be finished! Thank you for allowing me to share!
