An orientiation to reality, or way of being that allows we as individuals to engage with the world in a more connected and meaningful way.Instead of perceiving things merely as separate subjects or objects, relationships and interactions define existence:: "As we engage in practices that foster reciprocal opening, we enter into a transformative, dynamic relationship with the world, which creates an upward, spiraling movement of meaning." Welcome back everyone! In this episode I'm joined by my great friend and bandmate, DJ, drummer for American Dharma. Join us as we explore the power of art, music, and flow, as a way of sharing inspiration, enriching life, and expressing one of the most effective ways we may respond to the myriad existential crises facing our world today.
A few highpoints from this episode: DJ and I discuss how the art of flow expresses itself in so many ways, in music, athletics, and more, and how flow can be utilized in all aspects of life, through virtuosity honed by virtuous action. There is great point where DJ speaks on honoring the downcast, the outcast, the poor and homeless, and our elders as well, all the downtrodden and forgotten, who are ll deserving of a moment of genuine human kindness. Who also have their own stories to share. A consistent thread appears as we circle around how we may respond to all occurring in the world today, how we are able orient ourselves through the unconditionality of love itself, utilzing this way as a mode of being through which we may develop increased capacity to flow with life however it comes, and as such, be increasingly able to live and act from this mode of being most conducive to effectively helping effect the positive changes we wish to see.

In this episode, we enjoy the sounds of nature by a local creek (recorded in ASMR quality!), as we practice Wim Hof breathing and share in a deep, guided meditation. - I hope these meditations are of use to you. I've found it helpful to incorporate Wim Hof breathing with meditative practice, as the technique brings one so quickly into a serene, clarified state. - Not to mention the positive side-effects of clearing inflammation, and increasing (in micro-dose amounts) the endogenous dmt naturally produced within our own bodies, particularly in the lungs which deep breathing practices help activate.
Also known as the Spirit Molecule, DMT itself, appears to aid in deepening one's sense of inner-peace, clarity of awareness, and sense of flow-like effortlessness.
A note of CAUTION: Never practice this breathing technique while operating heavy machinery.

With cicadas buzzing in the background and the soft movement of the creek we sat beside, we discussed a heart oriented approach to activism, how cicadas teach us how to shed our shells and fear of death, the wonder and challenges of being human, and how to relate to ourselves, and the wider world in a more loving way. Due to a rather amusing hardware glitch there are some points in our dialogue where a word or two gets cut off. Fades have been added in some spots to soften the transitions between cuts. Hey everyone, welcome back to Actuali podcast! In this episode, we practice a breathing technique invented by 26-Time World Record Holder, Wim Hof, known as The Wim Hof Method, and follow this with a guided meditation. Wim's method has been shown in scientific study of its effects, to decrease inflammation, fight disease, and encourage the release of beneficial hormones, as well as the chemical compound DMT, a very intriguing side-note.
DMT, or dimethyltryptamine, is known to occur naturally in our own bodies, as well as many plants. It has been shown to be released in larger amounts in the body during dream-time, as well as during the birth and death experience. In recent studies, DMT has been found to be constantly active in our brains in quantities as high as serotonin, and as such is now theorized to be central to our experience of conscious awareness. With Bill Hicks, we consider: what happens when we see through Eyes of Love? We have previously explored how we can come to see people and the world around us through superficial impressions, stereotypes, and low resolution place-holder images.
With Jiddu Krishnamurti, we consider: what happens when we see beyond the distinction of the observer and the observed? For we have come to see each other as images of each other, and rarely do we meet each other in the moment, truly, without preconceived notions limiting our capacity for sharing in mutual understanding.
With Daniel Schmachtenberger, in a clip of his conversation with David Fuller of Rebel Wisdom, we consider the potential that the human species is itself in a phase-shift scenario.
In short, Daniel describes an analogy between how the human species has decimated so much of the environment, in a way similar to how caterpillars are known for doing on a smaller scale. Though, caterpillars also "butterfly", that is, they metamorph and become major pollinators and super stewards of the environments they nearly wipe out.
Though if we had never seen a caterpillar butterfly, we would have never known of such a potential to go from decimator to ultimate-steward of one's environment.
Join us, as we dive deep into this inquiry, to consider how we, as individuals and as a species, may cease the tragic downward spiral, and instead make that great leap upward together!

Welcome back to Actuali!
In this episode, we begin by addressing the current crisis facing our world, this dark night of soul in America, and this beautiful chance we have to go beyond our labels.
By widening our frames of reference, to see beyond our teams and tribes, our ideas and labels, we may remember what we are first and foremost: children of the cosmos, of earth and star.
For the sake of hope, though I do sense us skirting the precipice, I also speak to a sense light on the horizon, as more and more come to deep life-affirming realizizations of what we really are, sparking off new lights, radiating brighter and brighter, their every heartful action rippling out.
I pray enough of us can unite in the all-agreeable common cause of Love itself. To that effect, I wrote a poem, an older version of which I read on here some months before the corona virus event begin (Ep. 17).
In this episode, the poem/prayer is presented in a new light, in perhaps a somewhat more refined form, with further explication of its meaning.
I hope you find in it some cure for life's anxieties as they naturally arise in these changing times. It is a call to our unconditional love. Though, this is no common gesture, and the most challenging posture to take, at least initially.
It can be said that it waits for each of us, to awaken through us, as what we truly are. Though, this is just an invitation, as we come here to see for ourselves.
For we fear this potential, for it eradicates the ego, and all our fear driven attachments and drives. This is the most courageous step one can take in life: to die before death, though we do so that we may be reborn again, within this life, ever-brighter, evermore the Truth of our highest Self.
There are few ways to share this. Poetry is one. I hope this finds you well.

Hello everybody! Welcome back to Actuali! We continue our exploration into the deepest questions of life, to understand our relationship with the deepest, most fundamental aspects of reality, that we may come to know ourselves truly, and be our Actual I.
In this episode, we are utilizing a simple technique which involves only being aware of one's breathing during meditation, noticing thought distractions, and patiently returning attention to our breathing. This allows us to get an experiential sense and build up a bodily memory of what Now, this very present moment, feels like without our thoughts, feelings, and perceptions laden over it.
In returning our awareness to the Now we build up this sense which allows us to be freed of the impact of thoughts and feelings, gradually, and evermore over time as we deepen our practice. And breathing, is a very simple, benign (not emotionally loaded) focal point for attention that is grounded here in the present, so it is a perfect anchor point for attention to return to.
So, join us as we deepen our facility for returning to this all loving, healing, peaceful and free sense of presence, through the simple, effective mode of attending to our breath. Soon, a deep breath to the stomach will come naturally to you, to ease any troubled moment.

As we get a sense of the isness of existence, and we recognize the Truest, Deepest Sense of Self, we realize once and for all, we are not the images we hold of ourselves, nor is anyone else. Of course, we build impressions of everyone we encounter, but as we come to know that we are not our self-images, we understand this of others as well. The drawing is not the thing, the map is not the territory, the menu is not the food, a tree is not the word.
Words are mere low resolution place holders, icons for actual existence, and the only way to experience actual existence, as was eluded to of Neo in the Matrix when he awakens as the One. This metaphor is ancient, and it describes the moment one awakens to the underlying, actual nature of reality, and sees beyond their programming and conditioning, beyond the projections, the approximations, the representations, to experience a sense of oneness, of unity with everything around us.

"Laden over this most primary sense of awareness, we all have these filters we perceive through, our different histories, and experiences, different challenges, accomplishments, and struggles, preferences and styles of interacting, but we all share the same experience of awareness that all of this occurs in, and through that, the same capacity for suffering, as well as the same capacity for overcoming, for creativity and co-creativity, for partnership, for love,
and through love, the same capacity for consideration, for going beyond judgement to understanding, and forgiveness.
This same sense of awareness upon which our frames of perception are laid over, this that is ultimately empty of features, is as consequence also too full of potential to describe, is something so vast in its implications it can never be adequately named, is something we still may dance around just the same. We can beat around the bush, so to speak, to at least somewhat effectively point towards what no words can say, because though it is ineffable, indescribable, this space of awareness remains something we ourselves can directly experience.
And this experience of life and awareness that we share, through the knowing, the consciousness of this very moment, this is the doorway to the Unification of all Verses, that answers this Universal conundrum, why am I here? What is life?
The door is your sense of self, the sense of being here in this moment, right now."

How can we see past our images of each other, to know each other as we are this moment, regardless of our different beliefs, as the always-changing ongoing miracles we truly are? Can we be without a prebuilt image of another, while still holding a prebuilt image of ourselves?
Behind descriptions of who we are according to traits, such as I am a [this profession], [this nationality], [this religion], with this name, these accomplishments, who is the I that has them? When we say, I am this or I am that, I like this, I like that, Who is the Actual I?
Welcome back to Actuali podcast! In this episode, we explore how we may drop the images, and see how we need not be attached to the ideas we hold, as they are simply tools we can use to interact with the world. Rather than allowing the ideas that appear in our minds to be our masters, we make peace with this figment of self we've come to mistake for the most fundamental Truth of our being.
It's time to get back in the driver seat. Let us embrace this paradox, that we are no-thing with room enough for everything, that we are limited only by our imaginations. Let us see how we exist prior to these personages, these mirages / cast images, these projections of ideas we've accumulated over time. We are not these jumbles of thoughts and memories of experiences. We are the knower of all experiences! The awareness before, behind, that continues on after each experience. We further address the alarming rate of increase of anxiety, depression, and suicide, particularly among young people, and consider some of the more potentially detrimental language being thrown around today as response to environmental crisis.
Specifically, we consider an alternative point of view to this suggestion that humanity is a mistake, a virus, or cancer to this world. And we consider instead, how we may be a light amidst the darkness.
We also continue our inquiry into how integral a sense of the Sacred, a sense of wonder and awe is to our individual lives, as well as to the wider world.
The hope may be small, but our highest goal remains: that we may be that change we wish to see in the world, and change this world from the inside-out.

This is a call to hold oneself accountable, rather than blame the actions and ideas of others. This is a call to actualize your full potential. There is a gap in the world that only you can fill. There is a hole in the world that awaits the truth of You. If you don't fill it, no one else can, and no one else will, for it was made by the absence of who you could truly be. Only You can choose to achieve. Only You can fulfill your highest visions, and make your dreams reality. So get moving! Your sense of purpose grants life meaning, confirms your belonging, which absolves the fear and trepidation that held you back before. As I go into in this podcast, the term I am coining: Actuali, represents the deepest nature of ourselves. Who is the Actual I? What is this inherent awareness behind all thoughts, feelings, and sensations? Will we continue on, after we make this summit, will we take our voices and our hearts with us as we ascend, and rather than fall to one or the other side, could we rise together, transcend that pattern that has pit us against each other, and ourselves for so long?
I wonder, and I am full of hope, but I’m not sure that I am hopeful, only that I don’t feel so alone anymore. Yet, the mission remains: to reintegrate, inspire, uplift, empower, and sustain only that which so obviously smacks of wisdom it transforms you, and you are changed. There are times that face us, when a great leap is called for: and we are almost beckoned to by some miracle, arise anew, reborn, reintegrated, and able to earn a way to ascend the next peak, and today we are more connected than ever.
If ever there was a time, if ever there was a way, that way is here, and that time is Now!
What if we began to work in concert like some mass, great orchestra yet we are also all conductors, each with our unique element to share, to tackle the greatest problems our planet and humanity faces? What if? We got nothing to lose. It’s just an idea.

In this episode, we consider how contentiously held points of view can contribute to the increasing polarization of our societies.
There’s probably many of you out there who are noticing the amount of division in the world today, the fanning of flames apparent on mass media news, as well as on social media feeds. Maybe you’ve been concerned by some of what you’ve seen as well.
I would rather see us building bridges than deepening these divides, so in this episode we we explore how we might stand independently and observe as impartially as we are able, both sides of the story, and what’s contributing to this divide.
With hope and a bit of consideration, we may see beyond the labels and over-generalizing group distinctions to which we can all fall prey.

In this episode, we explore how the great martial artist, Bruce Lee, was inspired by the writings of J. Krishnamurti.
As perhaps the most well-known martial artist the world has ever known, Bruce Lee is credited not only with being instrumental in the popularization of Martial Arts in the West, but with being one of the main influences for the formation of Mixed Martial Arts as it exists today.
From interviews of those closest to him, we learn how the writings of J. Krishnamurti were integral to Lee's formation of his Way of No Way philosophy.

For today’s guided meditation we will practice Self-Inquiry. This technique, also known as the Direct Path, is part of the Advaita-Vedanta non-dual tradition, and was perhaps most clearly expressed by Ramana Maharshi, whose suggested the simple asking of the question, “Who am I?”
In describing Self-Inquiry, Ramana once said, “To inquire Who am I is a long liberation, to keep the mind constantly turned within and to inquire thus, in itself is the Atma Vichara of Self-Inquiry.”
In this approach to meditation, we are keeping awareness self-directed, but with a slight tweak, we aren’t just being of the sights, sounds, sensations as they’re coming in, we are being aware of awareness itself, while inquiring into who is having this experience.
This is the practice of self-inquiry.

This question sets us up to begin our exploration into the practice of self-inquiry, a technique for examining one’s own nature, which is accomplished through the turning of attention inward, to the sense of being itself."

In this episode we cover the most integral, yet surprisingly unknown aspect of Abraham Maslow's model for human motivation, most commonly known as the Hierarchy of Needs.
Quite intriguingly, there is a stage of human development that goes AFTER Self-Actualization, that is missing from most textbooks and common depictions, and it is INCREDIBLY profound!
This highest level of human potential was only added in the final year before Maslow's death. And this will be key to the podcast going forward.
