| There's something touching about watching a child prepare for their first day of school. The careful selection of the perfect outfit, laid out the night before. The new backpack, zipped and unzipped a dozen times to make sure everything fits just right. The quiet rehearsal of walking to the bus stop, just to be certain they know the way. Most of us remember our own version of this ritual. Maybe it was practicing a locker combination all summer long, terrified of fumbling with it in a crowded hallway. Or memorizing the route between classrooms, worried about being late and having everyone stare. Those seemingly small preparations felt monumentally important because, to a young mind, they were. What strikes me now is how we adults sometimes forget what it feels like to face something completely unknown. When did we stop remembering that every "first time" requires a special kind of courage? That six-year-old practicing their walk to the bus stop is doing exactly what we all do when facing the uncertain - finding one small thing they can control and mastering it.The truth is, we never really outgrow those first-day butterflies. Starting a new job, moving to a new town, walking into a room full of strangers - that same flutter of uncertainty is still there. The same need to prepare, to practice, to feel ready for what we can't possibly predict.Maybe that's what courage really looks like. Not the absence of fear, but the willingness to take the first step anyway, even when your heart is racing and you're not entirely sure what comes next. After all, we were all beginners once. | I was thinking about fathers today — what they give us, what we learn from them and how those lessons stay with us long after they're gone. Some of us were fortunate to have fathers who showed up consistently and taught us through words and actions. Others learned from father figures, mentors or the absence of them. Whether our experiences were filled with warmth or marked by complicated emotions, many of us carry something forward from these relationships that shaped us.What strikes me most about fatherhood isn't its perfection but its impact. The values we choose to embrace, the traditions we carry forward and, sometimes, the cycles we consciously break are parts of this inheritance. We can honor what was meaningful while creating our own definitions of what it means to care for others.Today, whether we're celebrating, remembering, reconciling or simply acknowledging the complex emotions this day brings, we can take a moment to recognize the lessons that strengthen us, the memories that guide us and the love — whether abundantly given or achingly absent — that shape our understanding of care and commitment. What will you choose to carry forward? What will you leave behind? These choices make our journeys uniquely ours, even as they connect us to those who came before.Happy Father's Day! |
| The influence of mothers shapes us in subtle and profound ways. Although every mother doesn’t achieve heroic recognition, their daily choices, their persistent faith in our potential and their quiet wisdom help build the foundation of who we become. Through their example and encouragement, we often find strength we didn't know we had.During the 1950s, when Eustacia Cutler took her 4-year-old daughter Temple to the doctor, she heard words no mother wants to hear. The doctors diagnosed Temple with autism and then recommended institutionalization — the standard medical advice of that era. They said Temple would never speak, never connect, never thrive. But Eustacia saw something different in her daughter's eyes. Where others saw only limitations, she noticed how Temple could think in pictures, how she related to animals in unique ways and how she processed the world differently — not wrongly.Against the prevailing wisdom of the time, Eustacia made a bold decision. Instead of institutionalizing Temple, she created an enriched environment at home. She hired a speech therapist, encouraged Temple's natural interests and, most importantly, presumed competence when others assumed limitation. Her insight proved transformative. Temple Grandin went on to earn a Ph.D., revolutionize animal science, design more-humane livestock-handling equipment used worldwide and become one of the world's most-influential voices in understanding autism.Today, Dr. Temple Grandin often credits her success to her mother's early insight. "My mother never gave up on me,” she said. “She recognized that different didn't mean less." Sometimes a mother's wisdom isn't just about raising a child; it's about changing the world's perspective, one person at a time.Happy Mother's Day! |
| In a small coastal town, an elderly woman spent decades running the local antique shop. Every April, she would close her store for two weeks - not for vacation, but for what she called "the renewal."Visitors often wondered why she dedicated so much time to spring cleaning when her shop already sparkled. Her response was always the same: "I'm not just cleaning, I'm rediscovering."Each year, as she moved each piece in her shop, she would find something extraordinary - a hidden hallmark on a silver teapot, a forgotten note tucked in a vintage book, or simply a new way to display an overlooked item. These discoveries often led to the most remarkable sales of the year. But her greatest insight came when a young apprentice asked why she didn't hire others to help speed up the process. She smiled and explained, "Some treasures can only be found by slowing down. Each piece needs to be held, considered, and appreciated anew. Sometimes the most valuable discoveries aren't the items themselves, but the fresh perspectives we gain when we take time to truly see them again."Like those antiques, our lives often hold unexpected treasures - insights, opportunities, and possibilities that only reveal themselves when we pause to look at things with fresh eyes. |
| What Can Cherry Blossoms Teach Us About Perfect Timing And Preparation? In a small mountain village in Japan, an elderly gardener spent 50 years tending to a single cherry tree. Visitors often questioned his dedication to this one tree, especially because the surrounding hillsides burst with thousands of blossoms each spring.Every year, he studied his tree and pruned it with careful precision. While other trees bloomed in spectacular shows of pink, his tree remained modest but grew slowly and steadily. Some villagers whispered that he had wasted his life on an unremarkable tree. Then one spring, when the other cherry trees began to fade and a late frost killed the flowers, his tree burst into bloom, making it the only cherry tree still blooming during the village's annual festival. The gardener's patient cultivation had created a unique variety of tree that bloomed later than others, which ensured the festival would always have cherry blossoms. His decades of careful attention resulted in something extraordinary because he understood that some things require their own perfect timing.Sometimes the most valuable growth happens in its own time, invisible to others until the moment is right. |
| Health: Our Most Precious InvestmentFebruary is often celebrated as a time for romantic love, but love takes many forms worth honoring. While romance captures attention, the lasting power of committed love, compassionate love and, perhaps most importantly, self-love truly shapes our lives. These deeper forms of love reveal themselves through the care and commitment we show to others — and ourselves — every day.Prioritizing our health is one of the most profound ways we express self-love. Too often, we place everyone else's needs above our own well-being. But one of the greatest acts of love — for ourselves and for those who care about us — is making time for preventive healthcare. Many of us know at least one person who discovers that a treatable form of cancer or another health condition could have been caught earlier through routine screening. We often hear, "I just never made the time to get checked out."Healthcare professionals remind us that serious health conditions often begin silently: A quick blood pressure check might prevent a stroke, a routine mammogram might detect cancer at its most treatable stage, or a basic cholesterol screening might lead to lifestyle changes that add years to our lives.Timing matters with these screenings. At 40, our bodies begin to send signals to which we should listen. By 45, consider having screenings, such as those for colorectal and prostate health. And at 50, it’s time to check in on bone density and lung health.Remarkably, these potential life-saving measures require minimal time — 10 minutes for a blood pressure check, 30 minutes for a mammogram and an hour for an annual physical. These small investments can reshape our future.Remember that our health is the foundation for all of our plans and dreams. Every moment spent on preventive care is a gift — to ourselves and to everyone counting on us to be around for several more years. With care,Zen Ziejewski |

| The New Year's Soup Of New Beginnings New Year's Day always filled the Anderson house with the comforting aroma of herbs and warmth. At the center of this tradition was Grandma Sarah's special black-eyed pea soup, a dish she believed could inspire positive change. This year, the Andersons needed that inspiration more than ever. Tom had lost his job in October and Emily's small bakery was struggling. Their teenage son, Jake, was withdrawing into himself and neither parent knew how to reach him.As the family gathered in the kitchen on New Year's Eve, the atmosphere was heavy with unspoken concerns. Grandma Sarah, sensing the tension, clapped her hands."Come on, let's start the soup," she said, her eyes twinkling. She assigned tasks to everyone. Tom soaked the black-eyed peas, Emily chopped onions and garlic, and Jake oversaw the herbs."Easy with the thyme, Jake," Grandma said. "It's potent, like new beginnings."Gradually, the kitchen filled with conversation and the rich aroma of simmering soup. When the clock struck midnight, Grandma ladled the steaming soup into bowls. "Remember," she said, "it's not just about eating it; it's about believing in new possibilities."They savored each spoonful of the warm broth and tender peas. While they ate, something shifted. Tom mentioned a promising job lead. Emily's eyes lit up with an idea for a new line of pastries. Jake, to everyone's surprise, suggested helping at the bakery after school.Whether it was the soup's warmth or the simple act of coming together, the Anderson family stepped into the New Year with renewed hope and determination. Here's Grandma Sarah's recipe for New Year's Black-Eyed Pea Soup.Ingredients:* 1 pound dried black-eyed peas, soaked overnight * 1 large onion, diced * 3 cloves garlic, minced * 2 tablespoons olive oil * 6 cups broth * 1 bay leaf * 1 teaspoon thyme * 1 teaspoon smoked paprika * 2 carrots, diced * 2 celery stalks, diced * 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes * Salt and pepper to taste * Chopped parsley for garnish
Instructions:1. In a large pot, sauté onion and garlic in olive oil.2. Add carrots and celery, and cook for 5 minutes.3. Add soaked peas, broth, bay leaf, thyme, and paprika.4. Simmer for 1 - 1.5 hours until peas are tender.5. Add diced tomatoes and simmer for another 10 minutes.6. Season with salt and pepper.7. Serve hot, garnished with parsley. As Grandma Sarah always said, "Serve with a side of hope and a sprinkle of faith in the future."With Warmth, |
| As we get ready to gather with the people we care about, let’s pause and appreciate the simple joys that fill our lives. The thoughts we nurture create the world around us, so when we focus on positivity and abundance, we invite more of it in. Today, let’s reflect on what truly matters and embrace the happiness we can create with our mindset.Think about what you think about. What you think about you talk about, and what you talk about you bring about, so what are you thinking about? Have a look around! What you see is what you’ve been focusing on.Happiness is free.Experience shows that when you commit to being happy now, the journey of building the life you want is much more enjoyable.Abundance is your birthright. The scarcity mindset doesn’t think there’s enough to go around. The abundance mindset says, “There is plenty for everyone.”Nothing to fear. It’s funny how some people choose to worry about things they have no control over. As Roosevelt said, "There is nothing to fear, except fear itself."Know that a setback is a setup for a comeback. Most people give up when they meet setbacks and obstacles. When you meet challenges, do what you did when you learned to walk: When you fall down, learn from the experience, pick yourself up and keep going!Seize the day.Don't be fooled by the calendar. There are only as many days in the year as you make use of. Stop for a moment and realize that you are occupying a unique space, at a time in history that will never be repeated. Seize this day and own it all.Happy Thanksgiving! |
| October is the perfect time to start thinking about the upcoming holiday season. Although this time of year brings warmth, joy and togetherness, it can also bring a flurry of activities and obligations that could leave us feeling drained. Before our energy shifts to focusing on the holidays, it's crucial to spend time this month caring for ourselves.Think of October as your personal recharge month. Use this time to reflect on the year so far and plan for the busy months ahead. Start with simple self-care practices: Enjoy quiet moments with a good book, take leisurely walks to admire the fall colors or indulge in a hobby you love. These small acts of self-kindness can help replenish your energy and provide a sense of calm.Planning early for the holidays can also alleviate stress. Making a list of to-do tasks — such as gift shopping, meal planning and organizing gatherings — spreading them out over the next few weeks and tackling these tasks gradually will make the process more enjoyable.Taking care of yourself now ensures you can fully embrace the holiday spirit when it arrives. Prioritize your well-being this October and approach the upcoming season with a renewed sense of peace and joy.Thinking about it now, which self-care rituals will you do during the fall season to help you recharge and prepare for the holidays? I'd love to hear your thoughts and maybe even get some new ideas to share with others! |

| Having space in your kitchen is helpful and freeing. After all, you don't want to feel cramped while entertaining. Try creating an open kitchen. Take down walls to other rooms. Your kitchen is the center of the house; show it off. If you're entertaining, you'll feel part of the party. |

The Mapmaker's DilemmaHere is a quick story about how to take your next step in a complex world. In a bustling town lived Ella the mapmaker. She was known for creating the most intricate and detailed maps anyone had ever seen. People came from far and wide to commission her work, believing that the more complex the map, the better their journey would be.One day, Sam, a young traveler, arrived at Ella's shop."I need a map to the Whispering Falls," he said. "It's for my first solo adventure."Ella began crafting an elaborate map, filling it with countless paths, landmarks and warnings. As she worked, she noticed Sam's anxiety growing."Is something wrong?" she asked."It's just ... it looks so complicated," Sam said. "I'm not sure I can follow all this."Ella paused, remembering her own first journey. On impulse, she set aside the complex map and took out a fresh sheet. With a few simple strokes, she drew a clear path to the falls. "Here," she said, "this is all you need to start. Just take the first step, then the next. The path will reveal itself."Sam's relief was apparent. He took the simplified map and set out with newfound confidence.Weeks later, Sam returned, his eyes shining with adventure. "Your map was perfect," he said. "I discovered so much more than just the falls. I learned to trust myself and enjoy the journey."From that day on, Ella changed her approach. She realized that, sometimes, the best map is the one that simply shows you where to take your first step
| During the summer, daylight lasts longer, the air is warmer and the scent of blooming flowers makes the air sweeter. Yes, summer is special. Most people think about inspirational messages during January, when the new year begins. But summer is unique because it brings people together, makes us feel alive and invites us to step out of our routines, take family vacations and spend time with the people we care about most. Children are out of school, running around in the sunshine, their laughter echoing through the neighborhood. During these few months, people congregate around water — the beach, lakes, ponds and water parks. There's something about the warmth of the sun and the coolness of the water that brings us together, that makes us feel alive.Yet, summer will soon be over, so enjoy every minute of it. I've made a commitment to myself — to appreciate every moment; to live in the now. And I encourage you to do the same.As you read this, I hope you're somewhere beautiful and surrounded by the people you love. | With security cameras and apps, it's easier than ever to keep track of what's going on at home from anywhere. But if you still need a camera, how do you pick the right one? With so many options, it can be overwhelming. Here are four questions to ask when buying a home security camera. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
| 1. Where Will You Put Your Camera? To find the best camera, you must consider where you'll put it. Do you want it inside or out? If it's outside, do you want a doorbell, wireless, or floodlight option? A doorbell might be your best option if it's the front and back door. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| 2. Where's Your Power Source?Do you want to wire your camera, or do you want a wireless battery-powered camera? Think about how often you'll need to change the batteries. If you wire your camera to your home, it's almost a "set it and forget it" situation. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| 3. How Much Do You Want to Spend on Storage? When you buy a new security camera, you'll need to consider your options for storing your videos in the cloud. Video files are large, so it makes more sense to store them on a server rather than a memory card. Many companies have plans that cost extra for more storage. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| 4. Are You Concerned About Privacy?Your home security camera will give you peace of mind, but remember that many cameras are connected to the internet. If you can watch your home from your phone, there's a risk that someone else can, too. Make sure that you use a secure password and keep cameras out of private places like bedrooms. |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
|
|
| Keeping your home safe should be a top priority. Ask yourself these four questions to ensure you have the right camera. If you're looking for a new home to protect, I'd be happy to help you with your real estate needs. |

The Martin family hadn't gathered at the old family lake house in years. Over time, distance and life's busy pace had seen the once-close family drifting apart. This summer, however, Grandma Martin, the matriarch of the family, decided it was time to bring everyone back together. She sent out invitations for a grand family reunion, urging everyone to bring something special to share. As the reunion day approached, the Martins arrived from various parts of the country, each carrying unique ingredients for a massive family meal. Aunt Ella brought spices from the South, Uncle Joe brought fresh fish from the coast, and the cousins brought vegetables and fruits from their local farms. The youngest ones gathered wildflowers and decorations to decorate the tables.Under the old oak tree, they talked about old family recipes and their new dishes this year. The once-quiet lake house was now buzzing with activity as everyone found a role. The kitchen was a symphony of chopping, stirring, and laughter. When the meal was ready, they laid out a long table under the twinkling fairy lights. As they sat down to eat, each dish told a story of where they came from and who they had become.Grandma Martin raised her glass in a toast. "Just like this meal, we are each unique but when together, we create something richer and fuller."As the night set in, the children lit sparklers, running around the yard. In the distance, fireworks began to dot the sky. The family, now reconnected, watched in awe, reminded of their childhood Fourth of Julys spent at this very lake house. The reunion, while seemingly just a gathering, was a reminder of their strength in unity. The family, like the community they symbolized, was strongest when together.Happy 4th of July!

As we approach another Father's Day, I want to share with you a reminder of the simple yet profound moments that make this day so special. Whether you're a father, have one or cherish someone who fills that role, there's something in these small acts of love and remembrance that can touch all of us. May this story inspire you to create beautiful memories this Father’s Day.
The Story
John always found Father’s Day a challenge, because how do you encapsulate a lifetime of quiet support in a card? This year, however, he had a different idea. Amid the attic’s dusty boxes, he found an old, tarnished fishing rod that belonged to his father.
Early on Father's Day, John drove to his father's house, with the fishing rod hidden in the trunk. "Let's go for a drive," he suggested. His father agreed, curious about John’s secretive smiles.
The drive ended at the lake where they had spent countless hours when John was a boy. When John revealed the fishing rod, his father’s eyes lit up with nostalgia. "Thought we might give it another go," John said, his voice tinged with excitement.
Side by side, they cast their lines, just like old times. The fish weren’t biting, but that didn’t matter. They talked about everything and nothing, the comfortable silences speaking volumes. As the sun set, casting a golden glow over the water, John realized the best gift wasn’t the rod or the fish they never caught; it was the chance to relive special memories and create new ones, together, on this special day.
I hope this story brings a smile to your face and warmth to your heart as we celebrate the fathers in our lives. May this Father's Day be filled with cherished memories, whether they're from the past or newly made.
Happy Father's Day!

In the vastness of Kenya's savannah, surrounded by acacias and the distant roars of lions, Wangari Maathai carved a path of resilience and hope. Born in a small village in 1940, she grew up in a society in which women's voices were often overlooked. Despite this, Wangari was determined to be heard — not just for her own sake, but for the betterment of her country and the planet. She shattered expectations by becoming the first East African woman to earn a Ph.D. Her ambitions didn't stop with academia. In 1977, Wangari launched the Green Belt Movement, a revolutionary effort that encouraged women to plant trees, fight deforestation and restore their environment. This initiative was about more than just planting trees; it was about planting seeds of empowerment and change, ultimately planting more than 51 million trees and transforming the lives of countless women and their families.
In 2004, she became the first African woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize. Her achievement underscored the profound impact of her work on peace and environmental conservation. Wangari's story is a testament to the power of determination and the profound love for one's community and the earth. Her legacy — championing the causes of women, the environment and future generations — continues to inspire and remind us of the difference one person can make.

February is heart month! In addition to eating healthy, it's essential to get plenty of exercise. If you don't like going to a gym, creating your own workout space at home is the answer. Here are five steps to planning for a home gym that you’ll consistently use and that won't cost much.
Let Your Fitness Goals Guide Your PlanningWhen considering your home gym, consider your fitness goals and what exercises you like. Then, organize your space around that.
Find Your SpaceFind a suitable space by determining which exercises you’ll be doing and the equipment you'll be using. If you have more equipment, consider converting a spare bedroom or a place in your basement or garage to your gym. If you use less equipment, you could get by with a small corner in your bedroom or living room. Either way, dedicate this space so that you won't get distracted.
Create a Motivating SpaceWhen creating your gym, ensure it's where you like to be. Add speakers, a TV, inspiring quotes, and the proper lighting. If you enjoy being in the space, you’re more likely to use it more often.
Keep a Variety of EquipmentStart with relatively inexpensive equipment like an exercise mat, resistance bands, stability balls, and a jump rope. Then, move on to larger equipment like a treadmill, punching bag, weights, and a bench.
Stick to Your PlanYou have so many distractions that could make it challenging to stay focused and block out time to use your gym. If you need to stay focused, organize your workouts by subscribing to a workout routine that you can do at home. A set routine will help you stay with it.Take these ideas to help you build your gym and work towards a heart-healthy lifestyle in your home. If you need more space for a home gym, I'd be happy to help guide you to your new house. Let's talk about your real estate needs. Give me a call to set up a time to meet.
Happy New Year! I hope 2024 is off to a great start. Are you still on track with your New Year's Resolution? Most people give up on them by the end of the month. Some studies say that only 12% of people feel that they have accomplished their resolutions at the end of each year. I thought I’d share a few tips on how to keep and conquer your goals.Take it One Step at a TimeIf you’ve made several goals, take them one at a time. If you try to accomplish all of them at once, you’ll risk getting overwhelmed and not completing any of them. Reaching smaller goals will keep you motivated to achieve your bigger goal.Keep Track of Your ProgressUsing a journal to keep track of your progress will help push you to keep your resolution throughout the year. Keep track of your successes and any setbacks to celebrate your wins and adjust when you have a setback. Also, reading your journal will remind you of why you’ve created this resolution. Face It! Setbacks Happen! You might hit a bump in the road along your journey. It’s okay! You’re human. If you have a minor setback, don’t get discouraged. Review your process and make adjustments. Small changes will help you keep going and can eliminate mistakes.Have a BuddyDepending on your resolution, it might help to have a buddy. If you want to exercise more, have a friend or family member join in on your resolution. You’ll push each other and celebrate your wins together. If you make a resolution, I hope these tips help you reach your goals. One resolution I hear a lot is, “I want to buy a new home.” If this is your resolution, I can help make this a reality. I’d be happy to guide you to your new home. Call me, or text me to set up a time to talk.

'Tis the season for family, friends, and togetherness. I hope you have a wonderful holiday. Take this time and spend it with the ones you cherish the most. Christmas is the season of giving, I hope that you will help or give to someone in need this holiday season. I am grateful for you and thank you for trusting me as your local real estate expert.I'm here if you there’s anything that I can help with next year, feel free to call, text, or email.Have a very Merry Christmas and blessed holiday season!
A few years ago, a young couple went backpacking through Europe and found themselves in a small town in the mountains during the holiday season. The town was beautifully decorated, with twinkling lights adorning every tree and building. One evening, as they were walking back to their hostel, they noticed a small, unassuming shop that they hadn't seen before. Intrigued, they decided to step inside. The shop was filled with handmade crafts, each one more beautiful than the last. The shopkeeper, an elderly woman with a warm smile, told them that every item in the shop was made by the people in the town. They would spend all year creating these crafts, pouring their heart and soul into each piece, and then sell them during the holiday season. They were touched by the sense of community and the love that was put into each craft. They ended up buying several items to bring back home as gifts. This experience reminded them of the true spirit of the holiday season. It's not about the hustle and bustle, the endless shopping lists, or the stress of getting everything done. It's about community, love, and the joy of giving. This holiday season, take a moment to appreciate the magic around you. Remember, it's not about the quantity of gifts, but the quality of the love in our hearts.
Be Thankful These words from an unknown poet remind us to be thankful on Thanksgiving and all the other days, too.Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire. If you did, what would there be to look forward to?Be thankful when you don't know something, for it gives you the opportunity to learn.Be thankful for the difficult times.During those times, you grow.Be thankful for your limitations, because they give you opportunities for improvement.Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character.Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.Be thankful when you're tired and weary, because it means you've made a difference. It's easy to be thankful for the good things.A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.Find a way to be thankful for your troubles, and they can become your blessings.I love the thought that Thanksgiving is less of a meal and more of a mindset. May your Thanksgiving be filled with friends, family, love and all that is important to you.
Here are five things you can do to increase the value and profit of your home. Are you thinking about selling?Whether you're ready to sell now or after the holiday season, the goal is always to get the most profit from your home. I can help you find the right buyer, but several things can increase your home's value and get more money when you decide to sell.Update Your Kitchen
Your kitchen is the most important room in your house. It's the hub of any home. So, before you sell, you want it to look its best. You don't have to go crazy to remodel. Small investments like paint, hardware, floors, or cabinet updates can pay off big.
Stand Out with a Touch of Technology
Adding smart technology like locks, thermostats, lights, and security systems allows your home to stand out. It's a relatively inexpensive addition that can sound good to buyers and increase the value of your home.
Don't Sleep on Normal Maintenance
Keeping your home maintenance up to date is vital to avoid expensive repairs, but keeping a record that everything is in check will give your buyers peace of mind when they inspect the house. You can create an online home history through sites like HomeZada so potential buyers can see your maintenance records.
Boost Your Curb Appeal
Curb appeal is always an essential factor when you're selling. Your home's exterior is the first impression buyers have when driving up to your home. Give your front door a new coat of paint. It might be worth investing in a new door if it's damaged. Trim your hedges and trees in front of your house. If you have a walkway, pressure wash it to look clean.
Have a Clutter Free Home
One of the first things any seller must do is to declutter their home. A cluttered home looks like you haven't cared for the house. Also, if there's a lot of clutter, rooms will look smaller than they really are.
When it comes to selling, you want to make the most money. Use these five tricks to help you get started. If you're ready to sell this quarter or wait, I can help you get the most for your home. Let's talk about the value of your home, give me a call to set up a meeting time. I look forward to hearing from you.
Happy Turkey Day!
I hope you're enjoying the first few weeks of the new season. Fall is the perfect time to get stuff done around the house. It's this quiet time before the hustle of the holiday season. Whether it's simple seasonal changes, regular maintenance, or taking on a new project, take this time to check items off your list. If you plan on holiday guests this year, it's the perfect time to take on a simple project that will make a big impression. Here are five simple weekend projects that will have your family and friends praising your skills.
Give Your Kitchen an UpgradeWhere do your guests gather? The kitchen. Make smaller updates to your kitchen without doing a complete remodel, which can be costly. Try upgrading your cabinet and drawer handles, or add a backsplash. New lighting can also make a big impression.Update Your Guest BathroomsLike the kitchen, guests notice bathrooms. Fall is a great time to get new lighting, sink, or upgrade bathroom fixtures. If you have tile, do a deep cleaning on your grout. If your bathroom is smaller, try painting an accent wall to add a pop that will impress.Replace Old Light FixturesLight fixtures can bring a modern look to your home. Updating your lights so everything matches is an investment that can go a long way.A Fresh Coat of PaintOne of the easiest DIY projects to impress your guests is to give your interior rooms a fresh coat of paint. Your home will have a new, clean look. If you're looking for a wow factor, paint accent walls.Update Your FlooringReplacing your floors can be a huge undertaking and can be costly. Give them a fresh look with a deep carpet clean. If you have hardwood scratches or damages, you don't want guests to notice. An area rug can be a great way to cover those scratches and make a nice impression.
Imagine a world where your small acts of kindness warm your heart, improve your health, strengthen your community bonds and even extend your lifespan.
This is not a utopian dream; it’s the reality for everyday philanthropists—individuals who discover that giving, regardless of the size of their bank accounts, creates a ripple effect of positivity in their lives and the lives of others.
Although we usually correlate philanthropy with wealthy people, anybody, regardless of their income, can enjoy the benefits of giving. Here's a case that proves anyone can be a philanthropist within their means:
While serving in the Navy during World War II, Thomas Cannon survived several accidents that killed more than 300 of his shipmates. Cannon credits his escape from these accidents as the reason for his philanthropy. "Such escapes made me believe that I was being preserved for something,” he says.
Cannon, who began donating money in 1972, frequently chose people whom he heard about in the news. Throughout 33 years, Cannon gifted more than $156,000, often by mailing $1,000 checks to the staff of the local newspaper, with instructions about who should receive the money. His charity helped support a local group that volunteered in the elementary school, a woman who started a youth center in her low-income neighborhood and an orphaned teen who was active in his community.
Cannon managed these donations on a $20,000-a-year postal worker salary. In time, he was forced to quit his job and become a full-time caretaker for his wife. That's when much of his philanthropy came back to him, as the community came together to provide him and his wife with a house and medical care.
Before he died, Cannon suggested the best way to honor his memory would be for others to just “Help somebody.”
One question that I always get asked is, "Is it better to rent or buy?" The answer is it's always better to own your home. So if you're on the fence, I wanted to share a few benefits of home ownership.
Positive Financial Investment
When you buy a home, it's a long-term investment. Your home will appreciate, and its value will go up over time. When it's time to sell, you’ll make money on the sale. When you rent, you're paying for someone else's home to increase in value.
Tax Benefits
Yes! Owning your home can have tax benefits. For example, you can deduct items like the interest you pay on your mortgage and property taxes, and when you buy a new home, you can deduct the fees you pay that year.
Credit Score Boost
Buying a home and paying your mortgage on time can help you boost your credit score.
Consistent Mortgage Payments
If you have a fixed-rate mortgage, your monthly payments will stay the same, making it easier to budget. Over the years, you're paying down on your mortgage, not someone else's.
Freedom to Make Changes
When you buy a home, you can make any changes you want because, well, IT'S YOURS! So make the home improvements that you want.
These are five reasons it's better to buy a home than rent if you can afford to buy now. I would love to discuss the many other perks with you.
If you need to sell in order to buy, let's talk about our
"BUY BEFORE YOU SELL PROGRAM"
If and when you're ready, I'd be happy to discuss finding your next home. Call me to schedule a talk.
Summer is a busy time for those thinking about selling a home. Sellers have a lot to think about when preparing to put their home on the market. The market has shifted from the crazy pandemic market that you might have heard about. Houses are no longer getting multiple offers the moment they hit the market. If you’re considering a move and want to sell your home for the first time, here are a few things you should do and expect.Create a Move-In Ready HomeIf you want your home to sell, it must be in pristine condition. Make those pesky repairs that you’ve held off on. Clean and clean again. And bring your curb appeal to a new level. A first impression is critical for attracting buyers. You want your home to be “move-in ready.” Pro Tip: Hire an experienced agent that has all the resources to help you prepare your home for sale.DepersonalizeTake down any family pictures and any sports memorabilia. You don’t want to lose buyers because of a sports rivalry. You want your potential buyers to imagine their pictures and decor on the walls. Pro Tip: Hire a professional stager.Set a Price That Will SellThe last few years have been crazy for sellers. But the market has changed from what it was even a few months ago. So, be realistic about the current market conditions. Yes! Your friend or neighbor sold fast and for more than expected a few months ago. But that might not be the case now. Pro Tip: A Comparative Market Analysis (CMA) can give you an accurate update on home sales prices. I can help. With interest rates rising and the market conditions leveling out, it’s good to ensure your home is in perfect selling condition. Use these tips to prep your home, whether it’s your first or last time selling. I’m ready to help you. Please call or text to schedule a meeting. I would love to discuss the value of your home.
If you've ever sold a home or are thinking about selling your home, you'll always hear about staging and ensuring your home is "show-ready." These are very important, but unless you move out of your home while it's for sale, having a show-ready home is easier said than done. After all, life still must go on. So here are a few tips to ease stress and help you maintain a home that will wow potential buyers.
Keep Your Home Fresh
When your home is on the market, it's good to let it breathe. Open the windows and let air flow through your home frequently so that any smells you may be accustomed to won't turn off potential buyers.
Keep Toys Organized
Keeping toys organized is essential when showing, whether it's your kids or your pets. Keep a box or basket handy to put things away as soon as they're done playing.
Perform a Daily Cleaning
It's always nice to have clean countertops and floors, but when showing, it's important. Create a habit of performing a daily counter wipe-down and vacuuming when your home is on the market.
Keep Toiletries at Bay
It's easy just to lay your toiletries on the counter each day. But when you're showing, you need to put those items away. Seeing personal things on the bathroom counter or bedroom dresser is a turnoff.
Hide the Clutter
It's a fact of life; we all have clutter. But, unfortunately, when you're showing, you can't. So to combat the daily clutter battle, have a basket that you can quickly and easily pick up clutter before a showing. Gather it all in a basket and hide the basket in a closet.
There's no doubt a bit of stress comes with selling your home. When your home is on the market, use these tips to help create a daily schedule that will keep your home show-ready. If you have questions about staging your home or are ready to move, I can help. Give me a call to set up a time to meet.

April is Jazz Appreciation Month, culminating with a grand finale on April 30: International Jazz Day, formally declared by the United Nations back in 2012. Even if jazz isn’t among your favorite genres, I’ll bet some of those celebratory sounds speak to your soul.
Although there is some debate over the exact year jazz was born, most everyone can agree what makes it unique is all the different components which, when braided together, form one cohesive sound. The idea is not unlike being in a group of people who bring completely different ideas to the table, but ultimately collaborate to produce a great final product — jazz, in human form.
When you think about it that way, what are you composing these days?
If you’re not working on anything besides everyday life, consider this: April is the perfect month to start conceptualizing your next act, something you truly want to compose and revise until it sounds just right.
If we are to believe Arthur Schopenhauer, the German philosopher, who said, “Music is the food of soul,” then April is your time to feast on all the possibilities life has to offer.
Whether you choose to embark on a new branch in your career or revise your plan for the year, this beautiful month of blue skies, sandwiched between chilly March and May’s goodbye to spring, is ideal for planning. With three-quarters of the year left ahead of you, a world that is remembering how to thrive, and opportunities everywhere… April is practically beckoning you to craft harmonious, collaborative plans into your life.
Play on!
Spring is a great time to plan. This story is a reminder that planning and persistence take us to more places than imagination alone.
A small seed was planted in the ground just as spring arrived. Although the seed was excited to grow and see the world, as the days passed, it realized that growing was a difficult process. The soil was tough, the sun was hot, the seed was often parched and felt like quitting, but it remembered its goal of growing into a beautiful flower and spreading its petals to the world.Yet, the seed persevered and pushed through the tough soil and scorching sun. It didn't give up even when it felt like giving in. Finally, after many days of hard work and determination, the seed emerged from the ground as a sprout. As the sprout grew taller and stronger, it realized the obstacles it faced were merely preparing it for the challenges of life. And when spring was in full bloom, the sprout blossomed into a beautiful flower, spreading its petals wide and basking in the sun's warmth. To the flower's surprise, though, it soon discovered that it was not just any flower. It was a small sapling, destined to grow into a magnificent tree. The flower was amazed at how far it had come and how its perseverance had helped it reach its true potential.Just like the seed, we might face challenges in life, but if we push through and persevere, we will probably be surprised by the amazing things we can achieve.
If you're moving this spring or summer, give your credit a boost. Good credit means a better interest rate and lower payments on the house you want. If you need to find a lender, I work with a network of great mortgage professionals. If you’re ready to start your search, I’m here for you. Call me to set up a time to meet.

A frail elderly man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law and 4-year-old grandson. The family knew it was time for him to move home because his hands trembled, his vision was no longer sharp and sometimes his step faltered. The newly minted family of four was patient with one another, but mealtimes were difficult. The grandfather would spill food and, on several occasions, drop a plate or a teacup, which shattered on the floor. One evening, after several accidents at the dinner table, the grandson watched in silence as his parents removed his grandfather’s plate and gave him a wooden bowl.
As Thanksgiving approaches, our thoughts and memories can become flush with the remembrance of family, friends and food. Year after year, we seem to assemble the same group of family and friends, in a warm home filled with the familiar smell of pecan pie, mashed potatoes, stuffing and other humid aromas.
Somehow, we manage to make the Thanksgiving scene the same. Sometimes the people change - elders pass, and new babies arrive - and sometimes the locations change, but we always re-create the same scene. You know you will catch a glimpse of someone’s fingers glistening with turkey grease. You know someone will twirl and unfurl the linen tablecloth which only emerges once a year.
Thanksgiving is like a genetic trait, handed down from generation to generation. This year, as you're enjoying the sights, sounds and aromas of Thanksgiving, please know I am deeply thankful for the traditions we continue to share!
Happy Thanksgiving!

Did you know that fall is a great time to buy a home? With more homes on the market, more homebuyers have more opportunities. Whether your first or tenth home, it's always good to know your mortgage options. I thought I would share four types of mortgages to help you start the home buying process.Conventional LoanThe federal government does not back conventional loans. You'll get conventional loans in two different packages called conforming and non-conforming. You can put down as little as 3% on a conventional loan backed by Freddie Mac or Fannie Mae.Government Insured LoanThese loans are backed by the Federal Housing Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs, or Department of Agriculture. If so, you've heard the term FHA loan or VA loan for military; this is where these loans come from. If you can't qualify for a conventional loan, you might try a Government Insured Loan.Fixed-Rate MortgageA Fixed Rate Mortgage is a loan where your rate won't change during the life of your loan. These loans help you plan and budget easier.Adjustable-Rate MortgageAn Adjustable Rate Mortgage or ARM is a loan where your interest rate fluctuates over the loan's life. The changes are based on the market conditions. A pro of an ARM is that your interest rate could be lower than other loan options. If you're thinking about buying, understanding your mortgage loan options is very important. I have a network of professionals ready to help. With more homes on the market this fall, it's a great time to get into the home you want. Give me a call to get started.
Thank a Teacher
Did you know that Sept. 21 is International Gratitude Day?
I’m certainly grateful for having autumn creeping upon us. The nights aren’t as warm as they were even a few weeks ago and stores have already begun stockpiling everything pumpkin-related.
However, I’m also grateful for something much more traditional as many people return to school in the fall—teachers. We are constantly learning—from the time we are born to our last days. This learning occurs not just in a classroom for the first 18 or so years of life, but also as young adults finding our way in the world, as parents and grandparents, and late in life when we have more time to spare and choose to learn something purely for ourselves.
I am most appreciative of the teachers who turn up when we are not looking to learn something new. Those unexpected teachers come out of nowhere. They are the elderly ladies with time to chat, the child who surprises us with insight that many adults overlook, and the average person who takes the time to explain a process, in common terms, that is specific to his or her field of expertise.
Who are the unexpected teachers in your life? Have you told them that they positively changed you, irrevocably, by teaching you something new? Perhaps this would be a good week to share your gratitude.
A teacher who made a difference at some time in your life would probably appreciate a simple card, an unexpected phone call, or even an email from you. This gesture might just lead to a larger conversation and a deeper friendship. If nothing else, you made someone’s day with a positive comment by simply expressing your gratitude. After all, one of the first things we are taught in preschool or kindergarten is to say, “Thank you.”
In Gratitude;
Is it me, or does life get a little more stressful in the fall? Whether it's schedules, finances, or the coming holiday season, things are just less relaxed than in other seasons. However, you can help keep things calm and less stressful with a few tweaks to your home decor. Here are five decorating tips for a stress-free home.Let Natural Light ShineNatural light will instantly make you feel more relaxed and comfortable. Let the light shine in and take in a bit of nature to have a calm home. Use skylights and windows to keep things bright.Add a Touch of NatureDid you know that looking at nature can lower your blood pressure? Add a few live plants to your home to reduce added stress. Don’t like plants? Photographs, prints, or nature paintings will bring a calming touch to your busy home. The Right Chairs Make a DifferenceFinding the right furniture goes a long way for comfort, but it also helps keep stress minimal. When looking for chairs, look for something big enough so that you can change position while sitting, move around the room easily, and have a taller back. Add a side table and a plant behind for a stress-free corner.Paint Light ColorsUltimate comfort and relaxation start with the colors on the wall. Dusty blue, sage green or other light colors help create a stress-free environment.DeclutterThere's nothing more stressful in a home than clutter. So take time to declutter and organize your home. Place items you use the most easily accessible and store items away that you don't use awesome. Less clutter will help your flow and keep your home stress free.I hope these tips help you keep your home as relaxing as possible. If you need help reorganizing, I can connect you with a professional to help you organize your home. International Friendship Day was celebrated on July 30th. The test is a simple reminder of what makes some friends your best friends. Some friends know how to be a polite guest in your home.An authentic friend opens your refrigerator and helps themselves. Some friends have never seen you cry.A dear friend has shoulders that have been soggy from your tears. Some friends don’t know your parents' first names.A close friend has texted your parents. Some friends bring a dish to your party.A real friend comes early to help you cook and stays late to clean up ... and knows where you keep everything. Some friends hate it when you call after they’ve gone to bed.A humble friend asks why it's been so long. Some friends want you to be more like them.A true friend loves you just as you are. Some people think that a friendship is over after an argument. A weathered friend reaches out with a well-timed phone call. Some friends expect you to always be there for them.A selfless friend knows that they will always be there for you!Friendship Day is a reason to celebrate all your real friends who allow you to be the same for them.

Happy July! I hope that you're having a great summer. Is there a remodel in your future? Home upgrades and construction can be stressful. So, I thought I would send you a quick email with a few tips on how to stay calm during a remodel project.Use sticky notes to help yourself and your contractor stay on the timeline. When you or your contractor finish a task, take a note off the wall. It's an easy way to keep your project on track, and it's rewarding to see the progress. Remember to include the minor projects on your to-do list.Buying new fixtures like lights, faucets, and doorknobs can be overwhelming. Before you know it, you'll walk through the store, and everything looks the same. Group your purchases by room to help keep yourself sane. Buy these items early in case there are supply issues.Construction projects are messy if you're remodeling one room or a few. To keep the dust down, block off the room with plastic. The rest of the house will remain clean. If you're working on several rooms, take it one room at a time to avoid even more frustration. What's the busiest room in the house? Your kitchen. When it's under construction, you don't have to cancel dinner every night or go out to eat out every day. Get creative with one pot and no-bake recipes. If you feel a new home is best, I can help. Now is a great time to buy and sell – call or text to set up a time to meet.
It is 2022 and dad doesn’t want a tie and probably hasn’t since 1955. According to TheShelf.com, in 2020 ties were finally beaten as the most frequently gifted Father’s Day item. The pandemic caused self-care gifts for dad to be the new king of gifts.
So, what does dad really want now?
Fatherhood today is a study of evolution. Dads lead, guide, protect and love more than ever. Most new dads know how to play Minecraft and are willing to battle creepers and morning traffic to give kids what they need. So it makes sense that ties and razors are no longer the most desired gifts.
Dads today are more apt to appreciate brands like Lego and Levi’s over Barbasol and Gillette. But what they really want is time and experiences with people who matter to them. You’re better off giving your presence for a cool family experience (think - a day by the water or a trip to an artisan ice cream shop).
When asked, most dads indicated they'd love to have a meal with their kids. It doesn’t even have to be somewhere special; the go-to family restaurant or diner is just fine.
Whether you are celebrating a dad who is 26 or 60, it seems that the gift of time with family and friends will never go out of style.
Happy Father's Day!

When you think of being "green," what do you picture? Is it recycling as much as possible or using solar panels on your roof? I wanted to share a few simple ways to make your home eco-friendly without splurging on extensive home upgrades like solar panels or the most efficient appliances. So, in honor of Earth Day, here are four simple ways to make your home more eco-friendly.Switching to LED lightbulbs will make your home more efficient and eco-friendly. As a bonus, you'll save a lot on your monthly budget.Rather than using hot water to wash your clothes, use cold. According to EnergyStar, 90% of the energy used in your washer is from water heating up. So skip the hot water to reduce CO2 emissions; your clothes will be just fine. While you're at it, you can decrease how much you use your drier.Did you know plants do a lot more for your home than add a little decorative flavor? They help keep your air clean.Using window treatments can add more style to your home, but they can also help insulate your home and improve efficiency. Heavier curtains or blinds can keep the cold air out and the hot air in your home.-----------------------------If you're looking for a way to save more on your monthly bills and be a little more eco-friendly, try these ideas. If you're looking for a newer, more efficient home, start fresh this spring with a new home. I'll help you find your next efficient home. Shoot me a text or give me a call to talk about your move.

On Valentine’s Day, love is all around and for one day people are encouraged to express love with flowers, chocolate and cards of all shapes and colors. The best part is... you can be super cheesy, enthusiastic, or deeply sentimental. Valentine’s Day is your excuse to let your feelings fly.
But how well do you know the feelings and preferences of the people you care about most?
We have all heard of the golden rule, which says, “give love the way you want to receive love;” there is also a platinum rule, which says, “give love the way they want to receive love.”
Some people like to hear the words, “I love you,” some people prefer a hug, while others are happiest with gestures of love. There are 1000 ways to say, “I love you!” without even using words.
Valentine’s Day is not just about how you show love, but with whom you show love. Look around and notice who else needs some love today – hint, it doesn’t have to be a romantic partner.
Maybe it could be one of the greatest sources of unconditional love and attention - pets! Is there an animal shelter nearby that needs a dog walker or cat cuddler? Or perhaps taking the day to pursue your own hobbies and interests as an expression of self-love.
Giving love isn’t something that should be limited to one day in the middle of winter. Valentine’s Day shows us that we have the capacity to share the love for more than one day.
Happy Valentine's Day!
Happy New Year! I hope that 2022 is off to a fantastic start for you and your family. Do you have plans to buy a new home this year? If so, you're probably thinking and saving for a down payment, but how much do you need? There are many loan options, and you may not need 20%.
Conventional Loans
Have you heard of Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac? These are the companies that provide conventional home loans. If your credit score is in good shape, you'll only need to put 3% down on your new home.
FHA Loans
Are you a first-time homebuyer? Then, an FHA loan might be a good option for you. Generally, you could put as little as 3.5% down.
VA Loans
If you're a veteran or currently active military, your service is appreciated. Getting a VA loan doesn't require a down payment.
USDA Loans
USDA Loans are backed by The US Department of Agriculture's Rural Development Program. These loans are for rural and suburban homebuyers. Check with your lender for income and loan requirements if you feel this is the right loan for you.
That's just a brief idea of the loans that allow you to save a little cash upfront. Of course, a mortgage professional will help you find the best option for you. I work with incredible lenders that can help. If you're ready, give me a call or text. I'd be happy to help you with your move.
Did you know— the ancient Vikings measured age in how many winters someone lived through? I just love that idea, like we aren’t merely surviving the winter months with extra-thick socks while clutching a warm mug, but we are living through them and truly taking in all they have to offer and thriving in response.
I think we can all agree that 2021 was challenging and we are all likely to anticipate 2022 with a sense that there is a fresh start on the horizon. However, if we channel our inner Viking (skipping the horned hats), we are obligated to bring vivid life into this typically bleak month, rather than seeing it as something to survive until warmer times. There is living to be done in January, my friend!
Those ancient Vikings were masters of the sea and had an innate understanding of navigation by natural elements. Like many ancient cultures, they noted landmarks for reference points and used the stars to navigate their way while out at sea, however they also kept track of their route through storytelling. Reciting the route they took in a poetic tale was not only entertaining, but it was also a way to hand down trade routes through generations.
I’m sharing this with you because I think there is value in giving voice to the course you plan to take as you begin the journey through 2022. All journeys begin with a plan and end with a story - I hope your story this year is a good one!

Thank A TeacherDid you know that September 21st is International Gratitude Day?I know that I’m certainly grateful for having autumn arrive with cool winds. The nights aren’t quite as warm as they were even a few weeks ago, and stores have already begun stocking everything pumpkin related.I’m also grateful for something much more traditional as so many people go back to school in the fall: teachers. I am appreciative of all the teachers who turn up throughout the course of our lives. Those unexpected teachers come out of nowhere and change us forever. They are the elderly ladies with time to chat, the child who surprises us with insight that most adults overlook, and the average person who takes the time to explain a process, that is specific to their field of expertise, in common terms.Who are the unexpected teachers in your life? Have you told them that they positively changed you, irrevocably, by teaching you something new? Perhaps this would be a good week to share your gratitude.A simple card, an unexpected phone call, or even an email would likely be much appreciated by a teacher who made a difference at some time in your life. It might just lead to a larger conversation and a deeper friendship. If nothing else, you made someone’s day with a positive comment by simply expressing your gratitude. After all, one of the first things that we are taught in preschool or kindergarten is to say, “thank you”.
If there’s anything we’ve learned over the last year, it’s that outdoor space is nice and necessary. We all dream of that perfect backyard oasis we see in magazines or on Pinterest, but let’s be honest, most of us don’t live in a magazine and don’t have the square footage or budget to create the perfect escape. That’s why I wanted to share a few ideas on how to create a budget-friendly outdoor space when you may be short on square footage.Decorate VerticallyJust because your outdoor escape is challenged from a square footage perspective doesn’t mean you can’t decorate vertically. Adding decor to the walls will help your space feel cozy and larger.Add Outdoor Curtains for PrivacyIf your neighbors are close and you’re seeking more privacy, try adding outdoor curtains. It’s an inexpensive way to create a private space.A Shady Sail Creates A Better PlaceWe’ve all been there, you have a perfect space for a patio table, but it gets blasted by the sun. Create a sail shade to provide cover.Lighting is KeyThe perfect light can create an inviting atmosphere for an outdoor patio. Before you call the electrician, take a look at your favorite holiday lights. String them around your space to create the atmosphere you crave.Add Multi-Use FurnitureYou’re not going to entertain all of the time, so why do you need extra furniture. An easy, budget-friendly solution is to purchase or create furniture that pulls double duty. Use a bench that can offer plenty of seating and storage. An ottoman can work as a footrest, extra seating, or if you need a table, add a tray, and you’ve got your centerpiece.I hope that you’re having a great summer and can enjoy the space you have. You can learn more about these tips and a few others here. If you’re looking for a new space to call home, I’m here to help. Just give me a call to talk about your next move.
Summer means time to get outside and have a party. Whether it’s with friends, neighbors, or a family reunion, there’s always an excuse to have a good time safely. Every good party needs a theme, and with the Summer Olympics set to begin at the end of the month, I thought I’d share a few ideas on how you can host your own backyard Olympic-themed party.
| | | A little friendly competition won’t hurt anyone. Set up several games for teams to compete in throughout the party. Swap out the real Olympic sports for fun classic yard games like horseshoes, cornhole, frisbee golf, yard darts, and giant Jenga are a few classics. |
| | | Create your own Olympic rings and have them featured throughout your yard and house. String up flags representing different countries, and to top it off, you can build a small winners podium for the winners to collect their medals at the end of the day. You can create Gold, Silver, and Bronze medals for the winners. |
| | | Every competitor needs to satisfy their appetite, so here are a few snack ideas for your Olympic party. Try making edible torches, a gelatin swimming pool, or medal cookies. You can check out the recipes and other ideas here.I hope these ideas inspire your Olympic spirit and you conquer your backyard Olympics. I’d love to hear about your favorite backyard games. If you’re looking for a new home for your backyard fun, I’d be happy to help you with all of your real estate needs. Give me a call to set up a time to talk. |

Making a difference on this planet and Celebrating Earth Day is today's tip. This April 22nd, 2021 will mark the 51st year for celebrating Earth Day. I just wanted to discuss a few ideas with you on how you can help make a difference.
My team and I support many organizations locally and Nationally. By those of you choosing to work with our team, we are able to give back to many of the local charities including the Ocean Institute, Second Harvest Food Bank in Irvine, Promise for Paws (Dog and Cat Rescue), Saddleback Church, Marines Toy's for Tots, Wounded Warrior Project assisting wounded veterans, Make a Wish Foundation and more.
My team and I wanted to share how we gave back to the local Ocean Institute here in Dana Point, CA (See linked video). https://oceaninstitute.org/give/
There are many ways you too, can help give back to the Earth and we encourage you to do so. It can be as simple as picking up trash on your local beach, buying more Earth-Friendly products, or even choosing to ride your bike or walk to work or the store versus driving your vehicle all makes a difference. You can donate your time versus money, there are so many ways to help and give back.
However you may choose to give back, it will be greatly appreciated by those in need and can be very self-rewarding at the same time. My team, my family, and I are all grateful for your support!
Did you know that it's National Heart Awareness month? In honor of that, I thought I'd share a few ways you can turn your home into a heart-healthy living space. One of the best ways to improve your heart health is to get regular exercise. Find a spot in your home to get a little exercise. Either create an actual gym with equipment or find a small corner in your home to put some small weights or workout bands so you can get a quick workout in.Fill your pantry and refrigerator with plenty of heart-healthy foods. Make sure you have plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. Stock your pantry with whole-grain foods, low-fat or fat-free pasta sauces, lentils, brown rice, and dried fruit, to name a few. Check out this article to learn more about creating a healthy kitchen.Getting enough sleep is also an incredible way to remain heart-healthy. Paint your bedroom with warm, relaxing colors. Clutter creates stress, which doesn't help with catching up on sleep, so tidy up before bedtime. Also, pay attention to the amount of light in your bedroom. When it's time to sleep, you'll want it to be as dark as possible.I hope these ideas will help you create a heart-healthy living area. A fresh start can also be healthy. If you're in the market for your next home, I can help. Give me a call for all of your real estate needs.

Bringing People To The CenterShortly after being forced out of Apple Computer, Steve Jobs bought a small computer manufacturer named Pixar. In 2000, he relocated the company to an abandoned factory. The original plan called for three buildings, with separate offices for computer scientists, animators, and the Pixar executives.Jobs immediately scrapped it. Instead of three buildings, he wanted a single vast space with an atrium at its center. As Pixar’s Ed Catmull explains, “The philosophy behind this design is that it’s good to put the most important function at the heart of the building. Well, what’s our most important function? It’s the interaction of our employees. That’s why Steve put a big empty space there. He wanted to create an open area for people to always be talking to each other.”Jobs saw separated offices as a design problem. He shifted the mailboxes to the atrium, then moved the meeting rooms, cafeteria, coffee bar, and gift shop to the center of the building. “The atrium initially might seem like a waste of space,” says director Brad Bird. “But Steve realized that when people run into each other, when they make eye contact, things happen.”Jobs insisted that the best creations occurred when people from disparate fields were connected, especially in an age of intellectual fragmentation.Steve Jobs knew his team could send a message throughout the Pixar building in a millisecond, but he created an environment that encouraged interaction. Intuitively we know Jobs is right. The content of any message can be sent and delivered around the world instantly. The context of the message is the part that helps people understand each other. For that, we still need the best communication technology ever conceived – human contact.

I know that we’ve all been at home quite a bit this year and that you’ve probably had plenty of time to work on a few house projects. I wanted to share a few more projects that you can take care of this fall so that you have a more efficient winter.
| | | With the relatively warm weather going away, replacing windows and your front door is the perfect fall project. New windows are an excellent investment for multiple reasons. They will drastically improve your curb appeal, and new windows are more likely to make your home more efficient. |
| | | If you’ve been holding out on painting your home, fall temperatures are perfect for exterior painting. Plus, it will look beautiful for any holiday guests. |
| | | Fixing your roof is not the most glorious project, but maybe one of the most important ones. Before winter, have your roof inspected and fix any necessary repairs. If you have a small issue, you won’t want it to turn into something much more significant in the middle of winter. |
| | | Fall is also an excellent time to make sure that your home is well insulated. Upgrading your insulation will keep the heat where it needs to be – in your home! Also, it can make your home more efficient and save you some money on heating costsAs you’re planning for your next round of home projects, think about adding these to your list. Fall temperatures are great for last-minute projects. If there’s anything that I can help you with, give me a call. |

Play Like You Don’t Know Better
What could you achieve if you didn’t place any limitations on yourself? Jazz pianist Art Tatum— called “the eighth wonder of the world” by Count Basie—is a perfect example of a man who knew no boundaries.
Though blind, Tatum expressed an interest in the piano as a youngster. He listened to the music of Fats Waller and Lee Sims on the radio for hours, hoping that someday he would be able to perform as well as they did. Of course, that meant he’d have to learn to play, but unfortunately, like many families in the 1920's, his had few resources to spend on music lessons. As Tatum neared adolescence, he devised his own method for learning the instrument.
He persuaded friends to escort him to a local jazz club, where he was given permission to sit at the player piano. As the music played, Tatum kept his fingers hovering lightly over the falling keys, feeling his way through the songs. He practiced late into the night, as often as he could—in spite of his age, his schoolwork, and his part-time job. Learning to play piano in this manner was difficult, but not just because he was blind.
What Tatum didn’t realize was that player piano rolls of that era were the result of two pianists playing together. He was learning to play with two hands what normally took four. As a result, he developed an incredible dexterity that enabled him to master the piano.
Even though this story starts in the 1920’s, we are still amazed by Art Tatum’s skill and innovation one hundred years later. Art was unaware of his limitations. He did not know he was attempting the impossible; he just did the impossible. If it's true that “necessity is the mother of invention,” then Art reminds us that not knowing something is sometimes the father of innovation.
If there’s anything we’ve all learned this summer, it’s finding fun ways to spend time with our families. One of the most delicious ways that I’ve spent time with my family is by firing up the grill for a backyard barbecue or Bar-B-Que or BBQ. No matter how you spell it, it’s a fun, delicious way to have fun at home. I’ve found a few hacks that might help you up the ante on your barbecue game.
Whether you’re grilling over gas or fire, I hope that you enjoy your barbecue. If you have any tips, I would love to hear them. Give me a call. Cheers to summer!

I hope that this email finds you and your family well and safe. I know that we are all consumed in different ways by this crisis. My aunt's passion is gardening so I thought this would some good info since staying at home is what most of us are doing. Getting outside for some sunshine is important and gardening at home is one of the best things you can do!
Did you know that working in your garden is one of the safest and healthiest ways to socially distance yourself?
Next Wednesday is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day; so with that in mind, I wanted to share with you a few eco-friendly landscaping tips as you dig into your spring projects.Plant Trees and Shrubs Native to Your Area
Find trees and shrubs that are native to your area. They’ll repel pests and require fewer pesticides. Planting your trees strategically can also help provide shade for your home in the summer and let sunlight in throughout the winter. As a bonus, it will help cut heating and air conditioning costs.Conserve Water
Xeriscaping your yard in dry climates is a great way to conserve water. If you don’t xeriscape completely, group plants together that have similar watering needs. If possible, collect rainwater in a rain barrel to water and schedule sprinklers to water early in the morning and late at night to avoid evaporation.Use Natural Fertilizers
If you like to use fertilizer, look for a natural fertilizer to help turn your grass green. Using compost is a great organic way to fertilize your grass and plants. In addition to helping the lawn, it helps the soil. Also, pull your weeds rather than use weed killers that contain chemicals and pesticides.Add Mulch
Use mulch around trees and garden beds to help control weeds and conserve water. Organic mulch also helps with healthy root growth and it promotes good soil.As you’re looking to get outside, think about a little stress relief in your garden. Use these eco-friendly landscaping tips. They’ll help conserve the earth and your budget. Show me your garden tips and reply to this email with a few pictures.
If there’s anything I can do to help you or your family, give me a call. I am here for you.
I pray that God blesses you, your family, your health, your finances and your well being. All my best,
Zen
I just wanted to send this email to see how you’re doing and share a few activities. As we all practice social distancing, we find ourselves spending more time at home and with our families. I wanted to share with you a few fun ideas that you can do while at home. Whether it’s finding things for your kids to do while you work or a fun activity to do at night, these activities will have everyone smiling.
Take out a classic board game for a family game night. Monopoly, Candy Land, and Chutes and Ladders are all fun. Lights. Camera. Action. We all have cameras and the ability to edit videos on our phones. Put your creative hat on and make your own movie with your family playing starring roles.Use cardboard or blankets to build forts throughout your home. Use your forts to have a family campout inside.
It’s important to stay connected during this tough time. Schedule videocalls with friends and family.
If it’s safe, go outside for a walk or play in your backyard. If it’s nice, get outside or open a window for some fresh air.
Use pictures of family members or characters to create a fun scavenger hunt.
I hope that these ideas and tips will help bring a smile to the faces of your loved ones. I would love to hear what you’re doing to keep your family busy while you’re at home.

Many of you may have been browsing houses for a while and wishing for a break in this overheated market. Well, here’s some positive news. The latest real estate reports say the market has picked back up and it's going to be another really strong year in Real Estate. In Orange County we still have an inventory shortage. We started 2020 with a low inventory more than 33% lower than we started in 2019.
Home price growth has been steady over the years and will continue to move slightly higher as we get closer to the election in November in 2020.New house prices are starting to moderate after seven straight years of increases, according to Zillow. Most experts see another year of appreciation.Mortgage rates trending down, not up.Just when you’ve heard ten times that mortgage rates are hovering near historic lows, guess what — they edged downward through much of 2019. What’s more, Fannie Mae predicts mortgage rates will fall to an average of 3.4 percent in 2020. That gives homebuyers plenty of chances to lock in extremely affordable mortgages.Housing supply will balance out.The supply of homes for sale has been really tight in recent years, and that’s one reason we’ve seen a seller’s market. But that started to reverse in 2019, leading analysts to believe that housing inventory could stabilize in 2020 - especially at the upper end of the market. That means more choices for buyers and not as much competitive pressure. The big economic picture. Will the long U.S. economic expansion come to an end in 2020? Some believe a recession is in the offing, but nobody really knows how long that could take to happen. As summer winds down, we find ourselves entering back-to-school season. While you may be excited to escape the dog days of summer and get your kids back into a routine, fall can be a hectic time for families. Here are a few ways to make things a little easier as we start to transition into fall.Use a family calendarIf you have multiple kids, keeping track of everyone’s busy schedules can be a nightmare. Consider getting a large paper calendar for the kitchen and using a different color for each person’s activities. Or if your family is digitally savvy, make a shared family Google calendar or use an app like Cozi to stay on top of everyone’s schedule.
Make dinner a no-brainerAvoid the last-minute “What’s for dinner?” stress during this time. Either do weekly meal planning and shopping during the weekend, or buy a meal kit service like Hello Fresh or Blue Apron that sends ingredients and recipes to your front door.
Start adjusting schedulesIf your kids have been sleeping in all summer, switching back to a busy school schedule can feel jarring. At least a week before school begins, start gradually having your kids go to bed earlier and wake up earlier — even 10 minutes at a time can help them get back on track.
Talk to your kidsYour children may have some anxiety about going back to school, especially if they’re making a big change like going from elementary to middle school. Check in with them and ask if they have any specific worries you can help them with; it could be as minor as helping them get comfortable with how to use a combination lock for a locker. Is buying a new home on your agenda for this fall? Please reach out; I’d love to help you find your family’s dream home.
