Our problem today is that far too many Christians are letting the world draw them into its pattern and they are not being transformed by the renewing of their mind in the Word of God. No government can say something is right when the Bible says its wrong and get away with it. That government must be told they are wrong. Hudson Taylor believed in the Second Coming of Christ but he did not become preoccupied with it. He marched forward into inland China with the goal of reaching all of China with the gospel. He saw this as what the Lord had called him to do and he did not relent untill all the provinces of China were penetrated with the gospel. Today, we have far too many prophecy conferences. We don't need them. We know Jesus is going to return. Today, we are defiling the land by our sins. We don't seem to realize the gravity of the situation that we are in as a nation. The light of the church will not be put out by the darkness. Though the darkness seems powerful at the moment, it will not overcome the light of the church. There have been sex crazed societies before who went there on way and God made an example of them to warn us today. This is a time to remember and take heed before it is too late. America is full of sin from the highest to the lowest. Only the powerful preaching of the Word of God will bring repentance to our land. It will be only when America fears God again that we will see a great change. When that happens, God's glory will be revealed in our land as the Psalmist says in Psalm 85:9 - 'Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land.' Will we ever see His glory in our land again as it was in the days of the First Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakening in the 18th and 19th centuries? We can learn to identify with a people that we might reach them with the gospel. The apostles showed the gentleness of Christ in ministry. While the health and wealth preachers of today lord it over their flocks with prosperity messages and pressure to give to get, the apostles put on the role of servants and reached out to the people with love and compassion. The church is weak because much of what it does lacks integrity. Preachers accepting large salaries and making few sacrifices doesn't help. The prosperity preachers proclaim a gospel that is far different than the message Jesus and the apostles preached. All of these things weaken the church. The gospel is a sacred trust. God has entrusted the gospel to us. We must preach it at all costs. We must boldly preach it. We must preach it with much conviction and power. We must pray for that power to come upon us that men may hear the Word and believe it in mass numbers. We must procliam the gospel even in difficult times. Paul could have given up because he faced much difficulty in Philippi. Yet he pressed on to the next place and there took a bold stand for the gospel and found success. God will bless His Word and bless us if we are obedient to His command. The gospel is clear - a Judgement Day is coming and only those who know Christ will escape its wrath. Yet, we live in this society today that is blocking out all warnng of such a day of judgement. We don't want to hear about it. We don't want such teaching in our public squares. We live as a nation as if we are not responsible before God. This kind of attitude can lead only to destruction for many and the downfall of our nation. Today, idolatry is alive and well in our society. However, the gospel calls us to leave our idols and come to God. The proclamation of the gospel must have first priority. Today, PowerPoint presentations and friendly talks have replaced the powerful preaching of the Word of God in many evangelical churches. The great pulpits of the past have been set aside to make room for the worshiop team. Yet, have we not lost something vital in doing this? The Holy Spirit opens hearts to receive the gospel. When the Holy Spirit comes in power, people start believing the gospel. Jesus was offered as a lamb for our sins. Today, we see this wonderful prophecy of Isaiah 53 about the death of Jesus on the cross written hundreds of years before the event took place. He is the true Lamb of God and it is to Him that we must look for salvation. He is the only Savior. The cross is the only remedy for sin. He is the Savior of the world. The greatest need of our nation today is not a better economy or more electronic gadgets or fancy automobiles. The greatest need of our country today is a national Spiritual Revival. There is a dearth of the Word of God among us in the land and that drought is growing worse. We have so secularized the nation that we don't want the Word of God to be heard it seems and God is judging us for it. The powerful voice of God needs to be heard in the public sector. Our vision is too short if we believe we are the terminal generation. The Psalmist looked ahead to a generaton that would yet be born. Some say this prediction in Mathew 16:28 was only of the transfiguration which occurred immediately after this prophecy of Christ. If that were the case, then his stating that some of them would not taste death till they saw him coming in his kingdom really was not true. For it is most probable that all were still living when the transfiguaration took place in a matter of only days. The most likely understanding of this prophecy is that Jesus was predicting something that would occur not in a day or two but in the years ahead to such an extent that even some of those present would still be living.

One of the greatest needs of our nation today is a national spiritual revival. We as a nation are steeped in sin and because of our great sins, we are under the wrath of God. The blessings this nation has seen in the past were the fruit of our forefathers who honored God. We as a nation today no longer honor God and our blessings will leave unless we repent as a people and turn back to God. The Jewish people sinned against God and God brought judgement upon them. Yet, He did not forsake them and restored His people by bringing them back to their land. Today, we are far from God as a nation. We are under His judgment and we need to repent. Yet, we have faith that God will send revival to bring this nation to its knees and restore it to what it once was. Let us pray to that end.

Cyrus prepared the way for the worldwide proclamation of the gospel. God has His plan and He is carryihg it out. Jesus came just as the prophets said He would. He came to His temple and filled it with His glory, the temple that Cyrus gave orders to build. God has worked throughout history to carry out His plan and He is still working today. The gospel is going out to the nations just as Isaiah prophesied so long ago. Today the gospel is coming to you. You have the privilege to hear that Jesus came and He went to the cross to die for your sins. He invites you right now to come and accept Him as Lord and Master of your life and to trust Him for your salvation.

God raised up His Anointed One. Cyrus was a Gentile king in world history. He is not only mentioned here in the Bible but in secular history as well. God used this great king to carry out the deliverance of his people. Today, we have a King who is greater than Cyrus. He is also the Anointed One. He also delivers His people with salvation.

We see in the New Testament that the New Covenant had come and the writers of the New Testament refer back to Jeremiah 31 explaining that that New Covenant had now come through the gospel. In the final section of Jeremiah 31, we see God continuing his promise of future blessing to His people. This promise goes beyond the first coming of Christ on into the future. This prophecy is a promise of an enduring people of God.

The Israelites were being taken into captivity to Babylon because of their sins. God was bringing judgment upon them and their nation. Yet, in the midst of His judgment God offers them hope. God promises them that they will one day return and prepare for the coming of the Messiah. He reinforces His promise as He promises a New Covenant.

The Lord promises that the Jewish people will return to their homeland to prepare for the coming of the Messiah. All was not lost. There was hope for the Jewish people. They would return to their own land. There they would await the coming of the Messiah.

We are living in an age where sexual immorality in all its forms pervades the nation. We are a sex craved society it seems. Our forefathers would be shocked at today's society. Things that were considered sinful and bad for a society are now embraced and honored. We take pride in what was once considered wrong. Good has become bad and bad has become good. God is there and He is not silent. His warning judgments are falling on the nation and we are not listening. There have been sex crazed societies before who went there on way and God made an example out of them to warn us today.

The Jewish nation paid a price for hindering the gospel in their day. Our nation if it continues to seek to repress Christians and Christianity will certainly pay a price. Yet our prayer is that such repression will stop and that the gospel will flourish in this land as it has in the past.

America is full of sin from the highest to the lowest. Only the powerful preaching of the Word of God will bring repentance to our land. It will be only when America fears God again that we will see a great change. When that happens, God's glory will be revealed in our land as the Psalmist says in Psalm 85:9 - "Surely his salvation is near those who fear him, that his glory may dwell in our land." Will we ever see His glory in our land again as it was in the days of the First Great Awakening and the Second Great Awakeing in the 18th and 19th centuries? Only time will tell but we can pray that it will happen again.

So many Christians today give lip service to the Bible and yet do not live out its precepts and don't even know what its precepts are. We need to get back to the Bible in a serious way if we are to live lives worthy of the kingdom we have been called into. Today, we need a national repentance to take place beginning with Christians who hold to the name of Christ but do not live up to that name. Repentance needs to begin with the house of God in this nation and then spread outward to everyone else in this nation.

Today, we can learn from the apostles what sacrificial service is. We can learn to identify with a people that we might reach them with the gospel. From their example, we can see the emptiness of the health and wealth gospel and how it makes selfish and materialistic Christians.

While the health and wealth preachers of today lord it over their flocks with prosperity messages and pressure to give to get, the apostles put on the role of servants and reached out to the people with love and compssion. We need the compassion of Christ and the love of Christ for people.

Today, we need integrity in ministry. The church is weak because much of what it does lacks integrity. Preachers accepting large salaries and making few sacrifices doesn't help. The prosperity preachers proclaim a gospel that is far different than the message Jesus and the apostles preached. All of these things weaken the church. If there is to be a true revival, it needs to come to the church first and this is what we need to pray for.

God has entrusted the gospel to us. We must preach it at all costs. We must boldly preach it. We must preach it with much conviction and power. We must pray for that power to come upon us that men may hear the Word and believe it in mass numbers. That's what happens when revival comes.

Paul could have given up because he faced much difficulty in Philippi. Yet he pressed on to the next place and there took a bold stand for the gospel and found success. God will bless His Word and bless us if we are obedient to His command. We must press on with the gospel in spite of opposition.
