BEASTLY THEORIES - is a low tech, low key, low brow endeavour, hosted by author of Beasts of Britain - Andy McGrath, as an attempt to discuss the highs and lows of Cryptozoology research and obsession. Although 'podcast' in name, the 'show' is more of an exercise in nepotism, as Andy seeks conversation with those embroiled in the subject he is chiefly interested in and to determines to avail himself (and you) of the prize of knowledge, that lies inside their brawny brains.
Join me for episode 105 as I chat with the awesome - Pete Jennings!
Pete is an Author, Folklorist, Historian, Anglo-Saxon Reenactor, Storyteller, and Pagan Activist— as well as an authority on the histories and mysteries of Suffolk!
We talk about the strange legend of the Wildman of Orford. This naked, hairy, man-like beast was netted by fisherman off the nearby coast and kept as an unwilling guest in Orford Castle, a cannibalistic Mermaid that once inhabited a now dried-up pond in Rendlesham Forest, which is also coincidentally the location of Britain’s most celebrated UFO encounter, Anglo-Saxon warrior kings, their barrows and treasures, the terrifying tale of a Black Shuck that terrified the villages of Bungay and Blythburgh and how his upbringing in this Suffolk has inspired a lifelong love and investigation of this mysterious county.
Pete is a living lexicon of history and folklore as well as an accomplished author - check out his mystical musings and literary endeavours here: http://www.gippeswic.org/books.html

Join me for episode 104, as I chat with.... uh... myself! ;)
I thought that I might use this space to discuss some of the cultural and psychological aspects of cryptozoology and other fringe theorems.
I discuss corroborative cryptids and reports of high strangeness in countries that have a shared ethnicity of culture, and why these background cultures could affect our interpretation of unusual phenomena, more than we'd like to admit.
The reasons why i recently declared the British Bigfoot Long extinct but The Loch Ness monster alive and well...
A few theories about ancient British giants and their modern reimagining as hairy humanoids and Wildmen...
The reasons why our having Bigfoot on the Brain is a stumbling block to scientific research into this creature and why 'evidence' like sticks and stones does more harm than good when presented without corroboration of other signs of our hairy friends!
If you have an hour to spare to listen to me ramble on about the cryptozoological conundrums that keep me awake at night, you are welcome to join me.

Join me for episode 103, as I chat with Author - H.E. Bulstrode.
H.E. shares how growing up in the West Country, a region strewn with ancient monuments and megaliths and steeped in curious carvings and historical curiosities, shaped his interest in the folklore of England.
He shares a few peculiar tales from his best known book series - 'Curious England', which has been described as a: "casual and idiosyncratic guide to some of the folkloric and historical curiosities of rural England..." and why he thinks that preserving these stories has a socio-cultural importance, that needs to be shared with future generations.
Next , we delve deep into how he came up with his ghoulish idea to 'crowd source' material for his latest book - 'Personal Ghost Stories' and the risks involved in choosing creativity over classics, and why many most authors stick to popular themes for fear of being overlooked by online algorithms! He also shares his passion for Supernatural Fiction, especially Christmas Ghost Stories and why some of the themes of the Yuletide Yarns of yesteryear are so sorely lacking in our world today
He prefers to be out in the field visiting the sites and stories featured in his books and shares three of the most memorable sites he's visited, including an unnerving 'ghostly encounter' he has never quite been able to explain!

Hugh Williams was born in Worcester at the heart of the Midlands of England. He has spent years researching and exploring the strange and interesting places of the central counties and then telling their stories. An author, public speaker and consultant at the liminal space where history, folklore and the paranormal converge.
We talk Megaliths, their different forms (dolmens, cromlechs, menhirs, etc.) who made them and why; and the peculiar purpose behind the creation of Misericords; as well as their imagery, symbolism and occasional humour.
We uncover the confusion over the religious origins of the green man and discover why the woodwose could be related to the ancient Greek demi-god - Heracles.
Later, we investigate why so many old buildings like churches and castles are haunted and reveal teh surprising origins of the stone tape theory.
Finally, we talk about one of Hugh's most popular books - Mysteries of Mercia, where he shares his knowledge of this ancient kingdom's myths, legends and folklore. Where was historical Mercia, and what does it have to do with Dragons, Knights, Witches, Mermaids and Wildmen?
Hugh is truly a lexicon of all things mystery; this was a truly enjoyable chat and well worth a listen!

Join me for an illuminating chat with Ghostess Leanne - the founding member and vice-chair of the UK Paranormal Society.
Leanne gives me a deep dive into the fantastical theorems and philosophical formulas that are claimed to prove that the spirits of our nearest and dearest are, in fact, unconventional hangers-on and obstinate overstayers that now sojourn in the land of the living…
We peer into the beliefs and evidence for the existence of ghosts and other ghoulish stowaways that allegedly persist in the world of the living, like – Residuals, Poltergeists, Animus Objects, and Exorcists… and investigate an array of Hi-tech detection devices used to find them!
Even though Leanne has had a few unexplainable experiences, she likes to class herself as an open-minded sceptic with a keen interest in the parapsychological explanations for supernatural experiences and questions if there is a human influence in haunting cases.
Is there indeed another world alongside our own that lies just behind the hidden veil, or are we living through a retroactive resurgence of ghost hunters and paranormalists similar to that seen during the Vogue of 19th-century Victorian spiritualism?

Join me as I chat with Cryptozoologist, Author, Researcher and expert on Sumatran fauna and flora - Dally Sandradiputra.
Dally has been a field investigator and expedition consultant for many years, working alongside numerous scientists and cryptozoologists to discover evidence of Sumatra's very own diminutive cryptid ape - Orang Pendek ('short person').
Dally recounts his initiation into the mystery, his first attempts to find it, and the feeling of being awestruck and immobilised one day after unexpectedly catching the creature raiding his camp supplies!
We discuss his theories on the probable genus of this gentle being, the successes and failures of past expeditions, how financial incentivisation only leads to tainted eyewitness testimony, and why he believes that the species could be at risk of extinction in the decades to come.
However, Orang Pendek is not the only cryptid on Dally's resume, as he has conducted extensive field investigations into Orang Gadang (Giant Man) sightings (a bigfoot-like creature, similar to Sasquatch), The Cigau (a large unknown lion-coloured semi-aquatic cat) and even discovered the presence of a cryptic tiger population in an area where they are believed to be extinct, along with researchers Carl Marshall and Richard Freeman, in 2022.
Dally believes that the best way to help Orang Pendek as a species is with international cooperation and incentivised environmental protection initiatives that ensure that the preservation of the species is seen as an asset by local people and government institutions.

Join me as I catch up with legendary Loch Ness local - Steve Feltham!
Watch here: https://youtu.be/i0TR54e5MGA
Steve, who is the Guinness Book of World Records holder of the longest Loch Ness vigil, has spent the last 32 years investigating this mystery and is, in my opinion, the best-placed person to comment on the new resurgence of Nessie-mania.
We talk about the highs and lows of the biggest hunt for Nessie in over half a century, why the media have a vested interest in sensationalizing news about the beast, and the unexpected publication of Chie Kelly's awe-inspiring photos of the monster, snapped at Dores Beach in 2018, and the soon to be released animation of all 71 photos that are currently being worked upon by photographic experts around the globe!
Steve weighs in on common Monster Imposter theories and why an understanding of the natural phenomena of the loch, as well as the way in which wakes from large cruisers can continue moving up the loch long after these vessels have passed, is essential knowledge to any would-be Nessie spotters hoping to prove the existence of the beast.
Later, we talk about how personal beliefs and philosophies can colour one's experience, influencing the interpretation of unfamiliar phenomena, and especially how the description of Nessie has varied over the years from water horses, giant toads, slugs, camels, giant eels and even elephants, before finally settling on it most enduring and loveable plesiosaur-like effigy.
Finally, Steve shares his hopes for the future of Nessie hunting and why he thinks that legend will live on for hundreds of years to come.

Join me as I chat British Wildlife with Cookie - field investigator, YouTube, podcaster and all-round animal lover!
We discuss the curious case of Britain's out-of-place animals, like Crocodiles, Capybaras, Porcupines and Rhea birds, that have been witnessed in Britain's wild places and how the people often tear off more than they can chew when it comes to owning exotic pets.
We review the ever-growing list of invasive animals, such as Rose Ringed Parakeets, Mitten Crabs, Terrapins, Mink and Wallabies that are fast becoming naturalised citizens of our island nation.
Cookie weighs in on the British Big Cat phenomenon, its possible origins and why he believes that a large predator would be easy to track in a country like Britain if it were here.
Finally, we tackle the tumultuous subject of rewilding, why it is unhealthy to have an ecosystem devoid of large predators, and why he believes that reintroducing wolves, lynx, and bears would not pose a threat to humans.

Join me as I chat with Author, Researcher and Adventurer - Tony Healy to discuss his new book with Co-author Paul Cropper - The Yowie File.
This awesome book documents the widespread belief among Australian Aboriginal people that huge, shaggy, man-like creatures lurk in the continent's rugged mountains and deep forests and attempts to document their origins, making mighty efforts to untangle the mythos from the monster, which has been invariably known by many monikers such as dulagarl, gulaga, jurrawarra, tjangara, noocoonah and wawee, but most often referred to these days (especially to outsiders) as "Hairy Man."
Tony's book also uncovers many early settler stories from the early 1800s, when Europeans began reporting encounters with great hulking horrors that they named "Australian apes", "yahoos", or "youries".
Now colloquially known as the Yowie, tales of this creature are now shared by all Australians, and ancient encounters, as well as modern encounters, are supported by physical evidence such as footprints, hairs, nests, and thermal film footage!
Tony (along with Paul) expertly enumerates the Yowie saga, delivering a blow-by-blow commentary on the ascendence of this antipodean ape.

Join me as I chat with Big Cat Researcher and Fortean Zoology Expert - Carl Marshall.
Carl tells us about his introduction to cryptozoology, how his youth was spent assisting a taxidermist (his father) in preserving a variety of animals, and how he would often come home from school to find his father's latest work laid out on the kitchen table!
This unique upbringing gave him a keen interest in the fauna of the natural world and especially in that of Big Cats - an interest which he traces back to finding his father busily working upon the corpse of a Sumatran Tiger in their home one day!
Indeed, he has recently been making waves in the world of Big Cat research, having discovered a verified cryptic Tiger in Sumatra, collected verified Leopard DNA in Stroud, England, and now preparing to release his first book on the subject.
Carl defines the term cryptid cats, talks about emerging hybrids and speculates on the possibility that there may still be undiscovered species of big cats, as well as prehistoric survivors, like the sabretooth and cave lion, around the world.
Later, He weighs in on whether we are close to seeing a public acknowledgement that there are indeed Big Cats in Britain and the public panic that could be caused by this revelation!
Carl's new book: The Cryptozoology of Cats: Feline Folktales, Fables and Fauna, will be released by Hangar 1 Publishing later this year!

He weighs in on the mystery of how an unknown Hominid species could remain undiscovered in our modern age and whether anecdotal reports from around the globe represent several distinct species or regional variations.
Later, we discuss aquatic anomalies, such as Double Finned Cetaceans and his groundbreaking research on the Giant Octopus, in his book - Tentacules!

Join me as I chat with Matt Everett, the maker of 'Britain's Big Cat Mystery', and ‘Cat Hunters, to talk about his new award-winning feature-length documentary - ' Panthera Britannia.'
Matt relives his first encounter with a big cat while driving home in rural England, and how this life-changing event compelled him to seek answers about Mystery Big Cats in the UK.
We explore the facts and theories surrounding this story, sightings dating back to the Roman Empire and the reign of King Henry VIII, and the many eyewitnesses who have claimed to see one of these now endemic animals in the British Countryside.
Matt highlights lots of little-known evidence that proves that Big cats are living in the UK, such as the bodies of big cats which have been trapped or killed; lost archive footage demonstrating the widespread ownership of big cats in private collections across the United Kingdom during the height of the unregulated exotic pet trade of the 1960s and 1970s; a 'lost' audio recording from police records featuring a confession of a mysterious individual who claims to have released a big cat into the wilderness of southern England and most importantly of all - recent DNA evidence obtained from a fresh kill that proves that, leopards at least, are preying on UK livestock!
Later, he weighs in on the big question of 'what should be done?' with these large predators if they were to be found in large numbers, as well as his ideas about a possible acceptance of these beautiful animals as one of the naturalised fauna of the British Isles!

Join me as I chat with Spanish Wildman Investigator- Ignacio Gallo Campos.
Watch here: https://youtu.be/Aoom7zwFgWU
Ignacio is the Founder of the School of Natural Activities and has extensively studied mycology, flora, and fauna in England, Ireland, Spain, India, and South Africa, and worked as a Nature Guide and environmental interpreter.
His entire life perspective changed in 2020 during a solo hike to a remote Irish lake island that was only reachable by boat.
Upon disembarking from his vessel, Ignacio was surprised by an overwhelming sensation of fear, which was exacerbated when he discovered huge teepee-like structures that were roughly woven together and dotted around the island.
Surprised by the immense size of the structures and the seeming implausibility of their having been fashioned by human hands, he admits to succumbing to the 'uninvited' feeling that surrounded him and says that he hurriedly rowed away from the island, still at a loss to explain what he had just experienced.
This led Ignacio to start researching legends about the area and he then discovered similar stories associated with the Irish wildman.
Ignacio was taken aback to discover that Spain too (as well as much of continental Europe) had many historical wildman legends, such as the Basque Country's - Basa-Jaun and Catalonia's wildman - the Simiot, whose shadowy form later stalked him in the mountains, near the French border, close to Sant Laurent de la Cerdanya.

Sam's list of commissions, reads like a who's who, of legendary comics, rock albums, and cryptozoological books and leaves one with an impression of a devotee, able to express the hidden beauty in the monstrous and the macabre.
We talk about his theories on the cryptozoological triangle (Cryptozoology-Art-Music) why so many adherents seem to have a foot in at least 2 of these camps, and what started his own journey into cryptozoology.
Sam shares how he got his big break into the genre, his struggles in gaining recognition, and importantly, shows that sometimes just having the audacity to ask for what you want can solicit a positive outcome.
He also shares his artistic tips and techniques for realistic cryptid commissions and what part of these creations are composed of eyewitness descriptions and creative license and gives good advice on what and when to charge, and how taking a long-term view is paramount when it comes to attracting repeat business.
Sam weighs in on the looming crisis threatening the arts with the dawning of A.I. Whether he thinks artists will commandeer this new technology or if this cheap and affordable spells the beginning of the end for creative art?
Later, Sam shares his view on the competing theories within the cryptozoology community about the taxonomic identity of these creatures and the philosophical beliefs surrounding them.

Join me as I chat with Portuguese Wildman Researcher and You Tuber, Rui Caratao, to discuss his investigations into sasquatch phenomena in South West Europe.
Rui, shares his strange experiences as a wildlife and forestry conservation officer travelling throughout Portugal and Spain, as well as the continuity between wildman signs and behaviour reported worldwide that he has also observed in his own region.
Later, we discuss his recent trip to the Basque Region of Spain, where a local folk legend named the Basa-Juan (forest man) has come to life in recent years, with several eyewitnesses reporting a large, bipedal, man-like creature that is covered in long, reddish/dark brown hair, that hangs down to its knees, and that is reputed to live in caves, deep in the woods of Navarre.
Rui, who describes himself as: "Just a normal guy trying to get some answers about wildman phenomena in Europe." Says that he believes that these now folkloric creatures of our yesterday do still inhabit our ancient forests, and that he has even heard howls and calls in these wild areas that he has not been able to identify and that he feels that the wildman represents a call from nature itself., saying: "The magic that forest people bring to our lives, gives back our ability to daydream, and believe again that the world its much more than the sick society based on fear and war that we are living in..."

Rory Nugent is a writer and an explorer. His work covers war and dying traditions/cultures as well as cryptozoology. His articles have appeared in newspapers and magazines around the world and his three books: Down at the Docks; Drums along the Congo; and, The Search for the Pink-Headed Duck; are internationally acclaimed and respected.
Originally a seaman, he was the youngest entrant in the 1976 observer single-handed trans-Atlantic race, and went on to make 4 solo ocean crossings; his fifth in 1980, ended in shipwreck and five days adrift at sea.
Seeking a somewhat quieter life Rory took to field research and set out to document some of nature's wonders while they still existed. He mounted a one-man expedition in search of India’s missing jewel, the pink-headed duck, and afterward, set off alone to find a living dinosaur (mokele-mbembe) that is said to inhabit the swampy forests of the Likouala Basin in the Congo; which is where we pick up the story...
We discover what initially attracted him to the legend of Mokele-Mbembe and how he prepared for a one-man expedition into uncharted territory... The contrast between his expectations of the region and what he experienced on location; the endemic low-level corruption and poor administration that hindered his expedition and whether this was simply an in-built feature of the local culture or a form of 'special treatment' reserved for outsiders!
Nugent describes his difficulty in finding first-hand witnesses of this intrepid beast, as well as the generalized knowledge of Mokele Mbembe tourism that exists within the general population, and the obvious dollar value such exploration represents to this largely rural population.
Later, we discuss the socialist government that was in place at the time of his visit in the 1980s, and his being assigned a guide by local officials (who suspected that he might have been an American spy or an oil contractor trying to identify new energy resources) to 'watch over him.'
Rory weighs in on the identity of Mokele-Mbembe and whether the dinosaurian interpretation of this legend is a hopeful attempt by Young Earth Creationists and other groups to find evidence that contradicts the scientific consensus regarding evolution.
He also sceptically reviews his rather startling sighting (including a photo he captured) of a periscope-like object cutting through the surface of Lake Tele.
Finally, we finish with the opening chapter of his book: Drums Along the Congo... which depicts him enduring a very descriptive and humiliating, preparatory 'cleansing ritual' performed by a local witch doctor, viewed by curious onlookers, in some obscure village!

We talk about his big city origins and how he first began to consider the possibility that Bigfoot could be a real flesh and blood animal; the multi-denominational marketplace of competing theories in the bigfoot community, and whether there is something of a religious component to the myriad beliefs surrounding this creature, as well as his own theories on the taxonomic identity of the Wood Ape.
We also discuss his recent expedition in the notorious 'Area X' (an established and active Wood Ape territory in Oklahoma) that his group have been monitoring for several years and review some of the unnerving encounters that they have experienced with what appear to be large Hairy Hominids!
Later, Brian shares some of his bigfoot hunting tips and techniques, reveals what he believes to be the most plausible evidence for Bigfoot; and his aspirations for a future 'Big Reveal' that will help to classify these animals and protect their habitat!

Join me as I chat with Robert E. Bartholomew - American medical sociologist, journalist, Honorary Senior Lecturer in the Department of Psychological Medicine at the University of Auckland (New Zealand), and author of my favourite lake monster book - The Untold Story of Champ: A Social History of America's Loch Ness Monster!
In addition to publishing more than 60 academic papers, he has written or co-written 16 popular science and skeptical non-fiction books. He writes for several newspapers and journals on sociological and fringe science topics, including Psychology Today, Skeptical Inquirer, and British magazines The Skeptic and Fortean Times.
Robert's expertise in fields such as - sociological phenomena, mass hysteria and mass psychogenic illness, combined with his objective disposition and interest in fringe phenomena; make him the perfect person to examine the denominational spectacle of communitarian cryptozoology with its myriad canons and creeds.
We discuss the family origins of his interest in Champ, as well as its folklore and history; and other similarly described lake monsters in the region.
Robert weighs in on my charge that the modern desperation for social content, leads some researchers to ‘exaggerate‘ their findings, and gives some candid advice to researchers about the trials and tribulations that can beset those who dedicate their lives to finding mystery animals.
Later, we talk about the problem cryptozoology has with the foundational theories of its forefathers being built upon as though they were fact; the protectionism many cryptozoologists exert around their research areas and evidence, and one of the most surprising chapters in his book, titled: Egos, Obsessions and the Quest for Fame: The Monster Hunters. Which aptly portrays the animosity and lack of cooperation that so often exists between many researchers.
The Untold Story of Champ... is just one of the awesome books that Robert has written - check them all out here!

Join me for episode 81, as I chat with Argentinian author, Austin Whittall.
We talk about his ancient English forebears and the cultural composition that has shaped this part of the country and its folklore. The origins of its most famous lake monster - Nahuelito, and other similarly described lake monsters in the region and whether the Mapuche people's myth of the Cuero could be an as yet undescribed species of giant freshwater ray?
We critique recent viral footage of the Culebron, (a monster that is believed to inhabit Branco Lake) its subsequent, sea-lion identification, and the importance of eliminating all logical monster-imposter candidates, when investigating the extraordinary claims pertaining to the existence of cryptid creatures.
Later, we discuss tales of large birds and even a pterosaur-like animal in this region, historical reports of a Patagonian Hippo, the Patagonian Wildmen and his theories about the true identity of the Camahueto (Patagonian Unicorn).
Austin's book: Monsters of Patagonia (Monstruos de la Patagonia) is a fascinating deep dives into the subject of cryptozoology and offers a view into the folklore, fauna, history and cultures that have defined this peculiarly pristine part of South America.

In episode 80, I chat with Director - Alex Brecher to discuss his new documentary: - 'The Explorer'.
His documentary follows cryptozoologist Michel Ballot and his team on their journey into the heart of Africa to search for a mysterious sauropod-like creature, known as the Mokele-Mbembe.
Alex, describes the challenges involved in exploring this beautifully pristine and undeveloped part of the world, as well the dangers posed to life and limb, by insects, snakes, crocodiles, forest elephants and the heavily armed poachers who frequent the forest...
We talk about local knowledge of this strange beast, its dinosaurian appearance and whether it could even represent a species of outsized monitor lizard, as yet undiscovered!
Alex mysteriously alludes to new evidence being discovered by the team in the heart of the uncharted Nki area, on the aptly nicknamed: "Dinosaur Island", in the form of footprints and 'something else!'
I thoroughly enjoyed this documentary which really does deliver on every level and manages to invoke the spirit of exploration in the viewer!

Watch here: https://youtu.be/XG1ewhOjlgQWe discuss her initiation into bigfooting as a child, after her mother became intrigued by the mystery, how she would attend so many conferences and expeditions that the bigfoot community became like family...and how she is now raising her own children in the same way, to pass on to them what she has learned. We also chat about her pro-tips for tracking a bigfoot, the do's & don'ts of expeditions; and her close call with a few gun-toting vandals during a solo night-camp in a bigfoot hotspot! As a bigfoot-lifer, Lauren has seen many theories, hoaxes, and researchers come and go, but believes that many of the new young bigfooters coming up, have a fresh new 'open-source' perspective on research that offers the best chance we have for a future with a discovered, classified and protected species of Bigfoot, in it!Find Lauren here: https://www.nitecallersproductions.com/Check out my other Beastly Endeavours, here: https://linktr.ee/beastsof
Join me as I catchup with Naturalist, Cryptozoologist and living lexicon of Australian Fauna & Flora - Gary Opit; as we investigate the tales of a living T-Rex in the Aussie Outback!
Listen to our interview here: Gary, expertly lays the foundation for the survival of these living fossils on the super continent of Gondwana which would have been unaffected by the mass extinction event in the northern hemisphere, that occurred when a meteor struck the Gulf of Mexico.
Going on to describe the nocturnal and predatory habits of this ferocious animal, he proposes that the lack of sightings surrounding it, could be likened to other ambush predators, who primarily hunt at night, go to great lengths to remain unseen by their prey and sleep for days at a time when digesting their protein rich prey!
Gary goes on to recount some harrowing encounters several witnesses have had with this imposing cryptid, including that of a couple being chased out of their campsite after disturbing one of the animals preying upon a cow and another witness, who describes observing one of the creatures, desperately clinging on to a tree and trumpeting like an elephant, before being swept away during a flood.
Is it possible that a surviving Therapod could remain undiscovered in 21st century Australia?
Sure it is! We must remember that this huge country has a landmass of 2.968 million mi², with a diminutive population of 26 million people, approximately 85% of whom live in its coastal cities, leaving plenty of room for a nocturnal predator to thrive!
Keeping these odds in mind, it is perhaps more curious that the creature is observed at all? Watch our interview here:

Join me as I chat with good friend - Denver Michaels!
Denver is an author with a passion for cryptozoology, the paranormal, lost civilizations and ancient history, and all things unexplained. In 2016, the Virginia native released his first book, People Are Seeing Something, which makes a case for the existence of lake monsters in the United States and Canada; since then, he has gone on to author Giants: Men of Renown, Strange Tales From Virginia’s Mountains, and several other books covering cryptozoology and the paranormal including my personal favourite - Water Monsters South of the Border!
We talk about his journeys across the USA in search of fringe phenomena, such as ancient petroglyphs that appear to depict extinct species living alongside ancient man; giant earthen mounds that are purported to be the tombs of giants and pygmy peoples; and ask if a remnant of mammoths and mastodons could have survived until recent times?
Later, Denver relives his lake monster sightings and toys with the concept of preferential perception (preferential effect/looking) to explain his strange encounter!
Denver Michaels and his wife sold their home in the spring of 2020 and now travel the country full-time in an RV. To that end, buying Denver's books is a wonderful way to support his work:

Join me as I chat with Bigfoot researcher - Charlie Raymond, founder of the Kentucky Bigfoot Research Organization, who has tirelessly documented Bigfoot encounters in Kentucky, for over 3 decades!
Charlie has interviewed countless witnesses, conducted investigations and expeditions in the hopes of one day proving that a "flesh and blood" unidentified hominin, that is very closely related to humans, inhabits the wilds of Kentucky
We talk investigative techniques, such as using track traps and analogue cameras, as well as the possibility that Bigfoot may be able to see the infrared light of our trailcams!
Charlie believes that these creatures are masters of the forest, and that any attempt to sneak up on them is an exercise in futility. That is why he organises group expeditions and campouts in well known hotspots, to illicit the curiosity of these elusive creatures in a non-threatening way, and draw them near to camp!
One day, he hopes to establish laws in Kentucky to protect these magnificent creatures.

Yes, cryptozoology can be very serious sometimes and occasionally even a little strange... but can it be funny?
I am happy to report that the answer to this is a resounding..."hell yeh!" and that a major source of this amusing mimicry resides in the Creepy Acres Team, who self-identify as: 'A mix of cryptid puppets telling fart jokes and swearing and posts on historical Cryptid sightings.'

https://beastlytheories.podbean.com/e/beastly-theories-ep69-7-rivers-with-alan-mckenna/
We discuss the credibility of the theories surrounding a transient Nessie presence, fuelled by occasional visitors from the sea, to the possibility that the beast represents a small, long lived population of resident reptiles, that have inhabited the loch since the time before time!
We also critique the 7 rivers of Loch ness and the river mouth, or Inver Village theory, (Inver, meaning river mouth in Scots Gaelic) which proposes that since the majority of all Nessie sightings (that are not mid loch sightings) are observed around these river mouths, that these are likely hotspots where we are likely to capture evidence of our predatory cryptid in action!

Join me as chat with Linden Adams, professional Photographer and witness of 'Bownessie', a purported monster believed to inhabit Lake Windermere, in the North of England.
On the morning of Monday 5 February 2007, Linden and his wife observed ( and photographed) a strange creature, for approximately 15 minutes, from Gummers How in the south basin of Lake Windermere .
Seeking answers to his strange experience, Linden submitted his photographs to a forensic photographer and a professional freshwater fish ecologist from the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, who said:
"...the source of the observed disturbance of the water surface is a moving object, with several of the photographs showing both a part of the object itself (with the remainder being underwater) and a generated wake or other disturbance on the water surface... the minimum length of the visible part of the object is approximately 12 feet... this size estimate means that I cannot explain the photographs by reference to any fish or other vertebrate species previously demonstrated to inhabit Windermere."
Affected by his experience and the confirmation that he did indeed witness something that day that could not be readily identified he went on to investigate the history of the beast ,as well as set up a website, www.bownessie.com (now defunct) to enable people to record details of their own sightings.

This was a great chat that I had with Bigfoot investigator, Lake Champlain and Lake Monster lore aficionado and professional diver - Jeremy Samborn. Although conducted earlier in the year, it was never published due to my heavy writing schedule and the proceeding loss of our mutual friend, Scott Mardis. I hope you enjoy listening to Jeremy's unique view on cryptozoology and his awesome investigation and diving techniques.

Join me as I catch up with likeable lycanthropy researcher - Colin Keelty.
Colin's initiation into cryptozoology and the paranormal happened in the 90s, after being stalked, by what he describes as an emaciated 7ft. tall bipedal wolf, while walking along a country lane at night.
Colin decided to go public with his experience about 10 years ago and has since dedicated his life to revealing the identity of these mysterious creatures that pepper the pages of the paranormal history of the British Isles.
Colin's research covers everything from cryptids to ufology to the paranormal.

Join me as I chat with Andy Rawlins, a retired rural policeman.
Andy shares his strange encounter with a UFO, that left him and a colleague terrified one night whilst driving the country road between the villages of Sturton By Stow and Marton, in the West Lindsey district of Lincolnshire, England.
Andy also recalls his own sighting of one of Britain's elusive Big Cats and his struggle to engage his superiors, at that time, in the need to make the public aware that large predators could be roaming the British countryside.
As a former policeman, and an artist and photographer, Andy skills in observation and detail make him a compelling witness of these strange phenomena.
Enjoy!
Join me as I chat with Sasquatch Island's - Tom Sewid. A Kwakwaka'wakw Indian. Tom talks about his life before Bigfoot, his experiences in one of Canada's infamous 'schools' for first nations children, his decision to embrace his roots and live in the wilderness of Vancouver Island and his experiences with the Dzoonakwa (the Kwaiutl name for Sasquatch) and Bukwus; a small bipedal hair covered creature.
Tom's knowledge of Sasquatch behaviour and the seamless way in which he connects the dots between tribal folklore and modern day reports of these creatures, paints a picture, clear for all to see, of a creature that has been ethno-known from time immemorial.
Enjoy!

Join me as I chat with Beast Watch UK's - Mike Potts. We discuss the important work BWUK play in rescuing and rehousing exotic escapees/releases, with their team of nationwide volunteers that specialise in exotic animal welfare and management. The perils and pitfalls of owning popular exotic pets. The DWA, 1976, The Invasive Species Act, DEFRA and the environmental conditions that need to be present for an invasive animal species to become established in a country like Britain. Mike also gives some great tips on animal tracking, trap setting and a few words of advice to counter some of the obvious confirmation bias that exists within the cryptozoological community. "BWUK (BeastWatch UK) is a National voluntary organisation whose members are concerned with the investigation into sightings of non-native animals in the UK. We can also provide support to owners of missing exotic pets & assist in their recapture as well as dealing with animals which appear abandoned. We will also deal with wildlife emergencies."

Join me as I chat with lifelong Nessie Hunter - Steve Feltham.
In 1991, inspired by his lifelong love of Loch Ness its infamous 'Monster', Steve sold his home, quit his job and decided to make discovering Nessie his life's mission!

Steve also gives his appraisal of the myriad theories and 'beliefs' that have surrounded the possible genus of this mysterious beast, since its propulsion to fame in 1933; and puts to bed the possibility of such a large creature making its way to and from the sea' without being seen, by hundreds of credulous snap happy witnesses along the way!

Scott Mardis is an eclectic lake monster lover! A sceptic and believer rolled into one! Grounded in the scientific method and yet bold enough to believe that plesiosaurs may have somehow managed to survive up into our current epoch - he is a formidable figure in cryptozoology, somehow walking the fine line of friendship between the many warring ideologies and egos that abound in this genre. He is knowledgeable and well read in lake monster lore, as well as being a witness of the lake Champlain monster; and one of its longest serving researchers! Mark Muncy has written horror, fantasy and science fiction for over three decades. As the creator of Hellview Cemetery haunted attraction in St. Petersburg he began to study the legends, lore and paranormal in Florida quite extensively.
When the city of St. Petersburg banned Hellview Cemetery for being too scary, he devoted himself to preserving the lore behind the legendary haunted house in book form. Thus his books "31 Tales of Hellview Cemetery" and "Tales of Terror of Tampa Bay" were born. Both were written and recently revised with co-author Elizabeth Abbott. Inspired by the numerous folk tales, legends and lore of his home state of Florida, Mark set out with his fiancé, illustrator Kari Schultz, to explore the myths of the Sunshine State. This led to his best-selling books, "Eerie Florida" and "Freaky Florida" from the History Press.
Mark Muncy currently resides in Central Florida with his fiancé, illustrator Kari Schultz on the remains of Hellview Cemetery in Florida.

Monica Rawlins is an experienced outdoorswoman with an extensive background in cryptozoological research and the paranormal. She has been a field researcher for over 17 years and has traveled across the U.S. to conduct her research. She’s worked extensively in television, and radio, where her quick wit and a no-nonsense attitude toward research and evidence has garnered her a solid fan base.
Having grown up in Northern California, with summers in remote SW Oregon, Monica has many stories of possible close encounters with unknown cryptids and in early winter of 2014, she had a life-changing Dogman sighting. All focus since that encounter has shifted almost exclusively to this pursuit.
While her main research recently has been dedicated to the search for Bigfoot and Dogman, Monica has also kept an active interest in all things cryptozoological and paranormal. Her points of interest and knowledge are Native American legends with a focus on Skinwalkers and Windego. When time permits, Monica also researches and investigates ghosts and hauntings in the North Texas Area. In addition to Monica’s paranormal investigations in Texas, she also has extensive knowledge of hauntings and legends of the British Isles.

Today’s guests are the wonderful Jen Kruse & Jena Grover from the SHE-Squatchers, these moresome awesomes, are the Midwest's first all-female team searching for Bigfoot. Their quest is to gather information, obtain credible evidence of Bigfoot & ultimately establish contact & peaceful interaction. Their team consists of a Missing person’s psychic medium, an animal communicator and remote viewer, a department of natural resources professional and Native Americans.
I really loved our chat and found their theories and methodology to be original, challenging and inspired!
The She-Squatchers are located primarily in Minnesota and North Dakota, they investigate Bigfoot sightings in the American Midwest.

BEASTLY THEORIES - is a low tech, low key, low brow endeavour; to discuss the highs and lows of Cryptozoology research and obsession. Although 'podcast' in name, the 'show' is more of an exercise in nepotism, as I seek conversation with those embroiled in the subject I am chiefly interested in and to avail myself (and you) of the prize of knowledge, that lies inside their brawny brains.

Deborah Hatswell is a Bigfoot researcher, head of the BBR (British Bigfoot Research Group) and the compiler and creator of the British Bigfoot Map.
She had her own Bigfoot encounter in Salford, Manchester, in the 1980s and has since worked tirelessly to discover evidence of Bigfoot in Britain. She has since become a beacon for witnesses of this phenomena to retell their encounters and often occupies the role of counselor, in providing validation and explanation to witnesses who often feel traumatised by their experience and the isolation and silence that often follows such an encounter.

In Episode 2, I get to talk to Professor Jeff Meldrum, a Professor of Anatomy and Anthropology and a Professor of the Department of Anthropology at Idaho State University. Jeff is an expert on foot morphology and locomotion in primates and first became enamored with the study of Bigfoot after discovering 15-inch bipedal footprints whilst hiking in the Walla Walla, Washington. Initially thinking that they were a hoax, he couldn't fail to notice, locked joints and a narrow arch — traits he came to believe could only belong to Bigfoot. As a tenured professor, he is no stranger to controversy and opposition and I really enjoyed getting to pick his big brain, in this off the cuff chat. I hope you enjoy the show!
