The Impossible Mission Omni-Feed! VideoGame Podcast!: Recent Episodes

The Geek Show

Impossible Mission is a simple podcast in which two Rob's talk about the wide world of video games. That chat could be relevant, it could be something we just find interesting, it could also be something in between. Some chats we've had in the past include Death Stranding & Walking Simulators, Extreme Sports Games, lots about Yakuza, Atelier and Dead Space, and so much more. The floor is ours, join the conversation.

We are called Impossible Mission because it's impossible to talk about video games without annoying someone. Or people are annoyed already and we just like poking the bear, as it were.

The feed features Impossible Mission, Monthly Games Marmalade & News Trash!

No, we don't talk like that in the episode. Yes, we have fully embraced the dark side... of clickbait. Then again this is simultaneously episode 100 and 83, so all the rules are off the table. I'll stop bringing that up after this episode, promise.

In the first half of the show we talk about news. Specifically that clickbait title, Hideo Kojima, Dead Space, Silent Hill and loads more. My favourite part is when I call of Todd Howard out for his d*ck move of publishing an announcement trailer for Elder Scrolls 6 (VI), 3 years before bothering to start to make the game. Classy of me, that, I thought. Then in the back half it's the latest edition of the titular podcast itself. On which, we look at the recent revelation that PlayStation doesn't really do all that well by indie game developers. However, unlike other facets on the online content world - we look at it with this mysterious force called... balance. Perish the thought internet. Sarcasm aside, it is a good episode that looks at the bigger picture for indie games and their place on console store fronts.

Somehow we can be on episode 82 but 1 off our 100th podcast. The internet is weird.

This week, we collect together the first news episode post-e3 on which we talk about the few news stories to slither from underneath the gargantuan heft of e3. Not that this episode totally escapes the electronic entertainment expo of youtube playlists. No, we take a good amount of time to talk about whether or not it made a successful return. Then in the second half, we talk about some games we have played recently which includes the like of the masterful Ninja Gaiden Collection and the metal detecting shenanigans of the magnificent truffle pigs.

There's more, of course, there is, but you don't need me to explain everything. Those two northern scamps on the podcast can do that themselves.

As a final apology for my laxness in getting the podcasts out, not only are you getting the latest news trash a day early. You are also getting the next episode of Impossible Mission about a week early too. In the future, we'll try to stick to this and get episodes out on a Monday.

Anyway. In the first half - we have a news trash. On which we talk about all the leaky susan's in videogame press and all the rumours they keep dropping. After which we have three stories on the bounce about members of the video game old guard either leaving or rejoining somewhere and more. And because all the trailers have ran for their nearest digital showcase, we have done something different. We talk about games we would like to see more of in this upcoming summer of games announcements, a concept which one Rob got completely wrong and ended up banging on about comic books or something.

Then, in the back half. It's a relatively simple concept for one of our hypothetical chats. China. They haven't impacted the video game industry yet, we talk about what might happen when they do. They are a sleeping video game giant, or dragon.

All up to date now. Won't be making the mistake of forgetting to upload episodes to the podcast feed. My bad. My really bad. This week we collect a new trash and an impossible mission. We probably should rename this feed news trash weekly games blast or something, it belongs to news trash more than it belongs to impossible mission, these days.

In the news trash half, we talk about the sony investor relations document, more EA ultimate team sneakiness, timesplitters, square enix going through their emo phase, netflix wanting more 'games', and more. Then in the back half, we talk about something we did a episode or two back. There was a story where Ubi Soft said they are going to simutanously do less and more free to play games. After we figured out that their statement was just corporate boggins, we decided to pounce on the idea of Ubi Soft, in fact, doing more FTP stuff and digged deep into that and The Division heartland. Enjoy.

Just one more then we are all caught up. This episode is a twofer, collecting May's Marmalade and an episode of News Trash - meaning this is twice the episode.

In the first half, we have news trash, on which the realisation that this semi-conductor shortage is real serious hits - why? because Nintendo is feeling the pinch, Sony has loads of ps5 exclusive buns in the oven, Xbox is hitting China and much more. Plus a truly evil trailer for Fatal Frame or Project Zero, I don't know, names are weird.

Then in the back half, we have games to talk about. This includes what is either a nostalgia headache or Gloryhole in Narita Boy, abstract weirdness of two unique flavourings with Genesis Noir and Buildings have feelings too. Bookending all that indie is Rob's flirtations with GamePass in Sunset Overdrive & Star Wars: Fallen Order. Oooh, sexy times.

Two more episodes today, again, I cannot apologise enough for not keeping up to date with these episodes. I am a bad podcast producer, bad. No treats for me today.

In this news trash solo episode we talk about the high price of digital PS games, Xbox not making any profit on any machine, discord to PlayStation in 2022, e3 steaming ahead, resident evil 7 was apparently too scary, and more.

Two in one day is probably enough for today, more new episodes will go live tomorrow so we will be up to date by Thursday - good fortune willing.

In this episode, we harp on about 7.8 million PS5's in the wild, PlayStation investing more in exclusives, Xbox doing much better, EA being their usual sh*tbird selves, there's a hunger for socially responsible games, Konami is actually doing stuff, and much more. Including us waxing lovingly about the most adorable Japanese promotional campaign for Resident Evil Village. Give us a series and inject it into our veins.

Bit of a crunched up blast of trash, apologies, life sometimes gets on top of you and tasks get overlooked and forgotten - this is one such time. Sorry, after this salvo of NT, it won't happen again. Fingers Crossed.

In this episode, Rob and Prob talk about Playstation Reversal, "Playstation Plus Video Pass" Xbox Dropping Xbox Live Requirement for Free to Play Online Games, Olympic VR eSports, ageing gamers, Assassins Creed Mr Men Crossovers, Ubi Soft and Blockchain sitting in a tree, Amazon's Lord of the Rings MMO being cancelled, shocking CDPR red profit, Twitch growth (which is an odd statement) and the new Mortal Kombat movie. Of course, there is more - it's news trash we rarely stay on topic.

This time on the Omni-feed, we collect April Games Marmalade and the latest News Trash.

In Marmalade we look at Paradise Lost as well as some older titles and oddities. Part of which includes Rob just wrecking Donut County for Prob. Something which I make absolutely no apologies about - if someone presents an open goal like that. It's just wasteful to not make some jokes at its expense.

Then in the back half, we talk about Loot Boxes, Six Days to Fallujah, E3, Jason Schrier powering himself with the tears of Playstation fanboys, CSGO in trouble with the filth, Twitch records and a nice little chat about the gorgeous indie title, Harold Halibut, to round out a pretty negative video games week.

News Trash doesn't have solo billing this week, it shares the centre stage with an episode of Impossible Mission in which we totally don't get carried away about the fallout of the Sony PS3/Vita/PSP store closures. Nope. Not a jot of exaggeration or anything, no, not us, no sir-ee.

Any-way.

Now that we've totally convinced you of that, we have to kick things off with a news week that isn't quite as heavy as last week. Weirder? Yeah, for sure, there's just less of it. We have more on Sony's store cockup, in-app purchases boom, academic studies pointing out what we all already knew, Activision-Blizzard being Activision-Blizzard, Ar madness, and the unlikeliest of contenders to stop a global games cheat-ring.

This week is a News Trash solo outing and there's a whole buttload of video games news to dig into. There's so much, in fact, that I'm not even going to bother trying to write it all down. Instead, I'll say just these few teasing sentences. Prob doesn't like the new Gollum Game; Playstation shutting down the PS3, Vita and PSP sucks hard; Sony is doing some movies, one of which we could do without; and, SEGA wins. The 8-year-old in me is bouncing off the walls at that last one.

This week on Impossible Mission, we open with the latest from the world of gaming news and a back half where we talk about the upcoming PS5 exclusive, Returnal. Come for all that, stay for the weird metaphors about the state of the gaming industry.

We talk Square Enix Presents 2021 (in the future, we'll be releasing digital events like this on their own under the banner "trailer trash", which will also be under this heaving feed). PSVR 2, a new cloud gaming service, UK Games Industry smashing records like teenagers smash like buttons on youtube, Red Candle Games, and EVO. Plus Digressions, we have them too. Lots of 'em.

Time for another episode of your salty neighbourhood videogames podcast. This time out its a solo venture for News Trash, so let us hit you with the full weight of our news. Before any of that, though - you read that image and episode title right; we make some bold Xbox predictions but not the sort you might be thinking. The sheer tease of it all.

This week's Stories include Microsoft's Acquisition of ZeniMax Bethesda, Microsoft testing a chrome based browser for the series X, Outriders Dev puts limits on their Demo, Roblox makes Astonishing Debut on Stock Market and the debut of TRAILER TRASH: where we talk about the Dynasty Warriors Movie Trailer.

News and a nice old chat with two smug people who dared predict that the videogames industry wasn't robust enough to not be effected the the biggest elephant in the room since World War II. Yes, I'm happy enough to admit this episodes back half is fuelled by smug.

Before that though, there's the small matter of news. There's a PSVR blowout, 2020 Console Sales Figures and Nintendo Switch Pro?, Square Enix plan to remake more of their old titles, Sony to Stop Selling and Renting Movies & TV shows on PSN Store & Ultimate Team Player gave lifetime ban after sending racist messages to Football Legend, Ian Wright. Of course, there's plenty of diversions too. This part of the show isn't called News Trash for no reason, after all.

Then, we talk about the great games drought of 2021 - which we predicted way back in August last year. Amazed more people didn't see it coming, to be honest.

Another solo outing for News Trash, focus on the trash - there. Despite the video version being beleaguered by issues of all kinds, this audio version was all rosy. Buttery smooth as all those Americans say on the Intertubes.

The stories we look at in this episode include... the latest Playstation State of Play & Other PS News. An Update in the Apple Vs. Epic "War". Sony have decided to shut down and Assess Japan Studio 22:16 Illinois Politician Tries to get GTA banned... in 2021!?Twisted Metal as a TV show!? and News from Uncharted Movie, and EA scrap plans for live-service Dragon Age. Of course, us being who we are, we don't exactly stay on topic. But come on, show me a podcast that actually does and I'll show you a liar. Impossible Mission has returned to the impossible mission podcast feed. Fancy that? Also. Fancy that it's debuting here instead of over on youtube.

The first half of the show is given over to News Trash, our weekly look at news from the big, bold and beautiful world of video games. Well... it's big and bold. Some of the news we look at includes... Updates on the PS5 DualSense court case, Apple Vs Epic Continues, EA and their Codemasters Acquisition, e3 and pals, and a Konami rumour blowout. On that last thing, we have to apologise to any Hideo Kojima fanboys, sorry, but also not sorry as it's our opinion and everyone is welcome to their opinion as long as they don't ruin other peoples lives with it. Looking at you here, Internet.

Then, in the back half, Impossible Mission returns!

On that episode of Impossible Mission, we talk about the problem of having access to more games than you can possibly ever play. You know? The Games Pass model. Then, at the back end of the show, we try out a new closing feature... GAMES FIGHT!

Apologies about the audio quality. We tried a new recording method and the kinks have yet to be worked out. Still, News has to go on. There's no stopping for any audio interference. If it's good enough for news broadcasts, it's more than good enough for YouTube. Still, we apologise and are working hard to fix these issues.

Right. The stories.

PS5's DualSense is the latest controller to suffer from "stick drift"

CD Projekt Red hacked source code has apparently been bought at auction

Warner Bros. Games have patented the nemesis system from the Shadow of War/Mordor Games

Kingdom Hearts is going multi-platform by making its PC debut

There is going to be a 25th-anniversary pokemon concert, featuring Post Malone of all people.

And Tangents. Good Tangents. Bad Tangents. And Tangents in between.

Another Twofer on the podcast feed. First up is News Trash on which we talk about some of the following hoo-haa. AMD "demand for their gaming chips has exceeded supply, and this is going to continue to be the case for the first half of 2020"; 99% of Video Games Sales in Japan (so far in 2021) have been for the Nintendo Switch; Google Stadia closes Games and Entertainment Studios; and More. Then, some games we've been playing. Like Morbid: the Seven Acolytes, in which Prob spends too much time detailing which way the camera points and Steamworld Dig 2 which made Rob tired.

In 2021, Impossible Mission is three shows; Impossible Mission (Obviously, which is going fortnightly), The Monthly Games-we've-been-playing Chat, Marmalade And, New boy, News Trash, a weekly show in which we cover the less exposed video games news story.

In the first episode, we talk about: EA set up new Studio to make the upcoming Skate Game; Amazon Spent Nearly $500 million in a year on its gaming division; Netflix and Legendary Pictures to Produce animated Tomb Raider Series; Ninja Theory to halt updates for Bleeding Edge After a Year; and, Riot Breaks out and police are called at PS5 event in Japan.

Then in the back-half, instead of doing a boring, predictable best games of 2020 video, we thought it'd be more fitting for us to talk about some of the highlights of our video game backlog that we played through 2020. Hollow Knight, Paradise Killer, The Last of Us Part II and much, much more... What about you, what are some of your highlights of the past 12 months that you finally got around to?

This is a deeply cynical episode for the most cynical time of the year. I mean festive. How could I possibly confuse the two things? How very bad of me. Controversial opinions thy name is Impossible Mission. This week we talk about video game music. Then we do a 2021 videogames preview a.k.a. 8-ish games that we are looking forward to in 2021. Not much else to say about this one, it's a "does exactly what it says on the tin" type of episode. Halloween is upon us so join us on Impossible Mission for a one-two punch of horror crunchiness. In the first episode, we talk about a concept that might sound alien to a lot of people - horror games for kids. In the first half of this episode, there's no dancing around this one as our eventual opinion may upset some people - so, all we can say is we intended no offence. Every time a new console generation rolls around the question is always asked, is this new machine back-compatible? A new type of topic on Impossible Mission this week, this is a hypothetical discussion. On this one, we ask the question - if you had to play only triple-A games or high profile Indie titles exclusively for a year, which would you pick? This time out on Impossible Mission we talk about games that have long been lost to the history vaults, Rob and Prob talk about games that we'd like to see make a return - whether this is for next-gen or not, we just want them back. When we aren't calling the gaming gods cowards, we also talk about terrible games with bold control systems, extreme sports, the PSone JRPG landscape and much, much more.

We should probably bring back the geek show drinking game at some point, huh?

Impossible Mission confirmed by YouTube commenter? You bet your sweet **** it is.

This episode would've been out a week earlier, but we delayed it on account of the coronavirus/ e3 episode we did already dating horribly. Stay safe everyone. So instead, we laser-focused this latest podcast around the specs drop that we've recently had for both the Playstation 5 and the Xbox Series X.

The console war has officially kicked off. In the first half, we focus on Microsoft's new powerhouse of a machine, then, we jump ship to Sony for their fifth station of play. Where does the sand lay at this point in time? Tune in to find out what we think.

For all this and more check it on Impossible Mission, 'cause it is impossible to talk about video games without pssing someone off. People are so territorial when it comes to video games, so join us as we jump right in feet first to this impossible mission with little care.

In the first half of this latest episode, we talk about Yakuza. From its origins as a game that climbed out of the shadow of Shenmue to the dadding antics of today. Its been a rocky, weird road and we tell you just why it's one of our favourite stealth AAA titles. Then in a complete change of direction, we follow that up by talking about balls, wheels, more balls and how all games developers are cowards that will totally play into my obvious ploy. Maybe? Probably? Hopefully? Enough of that, in the back half of the show we talk about sports games in all their many different guises and just why we keep coming back to them over and over again.

Press X is dead long live Press X. There's a new king in town, Impossible Mission - and going forward that is what we will forevermore be known as. Now that's out of the way, what games are we talking about on this episode?

In the front half, we talk about weird names for games as well as games that changed their names for some reason or another. Not looking at Legend of Zelda in any way shape or form here, no way, no how. CoughCough* Then in the back half, we look at Media Molecule's LONG anticipated game-em-up, Dreams. We talk about whether the Playstation exclusive developer has made something their own genre and much, much more.

Sorry for bombarding and putting out so many episodes so quick, but when you are excited about relaunching a podcast - you have to cross all the Ts and dot all the Is.

In this triple bill, to close out Press X's tenure we have one eye trained on the past for all of them. In part 1 we talk about the nostalgia of Shenmue III and the new Bard's Tale. In part 2, we talk about pure gameplay in games. None of this story nonsense, thank you very much. And, in part 3, we talk about when a golden age for games could conceivably be.  Which, obviously, we don't answer properly. Instead, we give you three different answers.

South Park's Kyle Brofolvski is always learning things and this week on Press X, we are too.

We open this episode of the geek show's exclusive video games podcast by talking about the games that have helped us discover something about ourselves or something new and cool that we didn't know existed beforehand. Games can be great like that. Then in the backend, we dig into why we have always loved the point and click adventure game. Simple answer? They're awesome, no, but seriously. there's much more than that to dig into.

Just one more episode of Press X before the relaunch and its a big episode. Turns out, E3 screwed us just as much as Sony has screwed them - two years on the bounce now. Not many more episodes of Press X until we are up to date and cross over to the new podcast name, now.

In this episode, we open by talking about one of 2019's most divisive games - Death Stranding. Which, contrary to youtube comments threads, segues nicely into a conversation about the humble walking simulator. Such an odd moniker for a videogame genre, that. And, keeping that controversial energy flowing,  we follow it up by talking about why we love fighting games. Well, one of us does, anyway.

Did I almost start this paragraph by typing regards, like this was an email? No, don't be ridiculous, of course, I never. Tracks successfully covered. Now. Sagely advice from Resident Evil's Barry there, don't be a jill sandwich.

This time on Press X, we continue or look at horror in video games by going through the entire history of the franchise. Well, as much as you can with a 30 minute YouTube Video/Segment, anyway. We touch on the important footnotes, like how Code Veronica needs the fancy remake treatment next. Then in the back half of the show, we talk about folk horror in video games. Which, on paper, sounds boring. However, in reality, we get into the nitty-gritty of how you could actually pull off a werewolf game.

Horror is the name of the game this week on the Geek Show's video game exclusive pod.

In the first half of Press X, we talk about how horror video games made in Japan are different from those made in the West. A fascinating topic that you don't really contemplate until it is right there, in front of you. Then in the back half, we narrow our gaze on the most over-saturated monster in all of pop culture, never mind games - the zombie. Whether TV, Movies, Comics or Games, we've had enough. So, we take the mammoth task upon ourselves to create a zombie game that would get rid of all that fatigue. Yes, try.

Time for more video games chattery with the Rob's on Press X.

This time we open the show by swerving the topic of video games as an art form by talking about video games that use art as a component of their gameplay. Sneaky, right? Then in the second half, we engage in a friendly bit of clickbait by talking about facilities and tycoon games and suggest that they are the scariest games in the world? No, not horror, but managing a theme park of hospital. Stick with us, though, there is a method in this madness.

Time for more chitty-chitty-chat-chat with the geek show's exclusive video games podcast, Press X.

This time we talk about the emergence of indie games as a legitimate force in gaming, as proven by the number of smaller, forgotten genres they have saved or championed. And, in the back half, we talk about the rise of Focus Home Interactive as a publisher of mid-range games. Rob opens the show with a caveat about that, but the points we make still stand the test of time.

Press X-asauraus Rex. On this double blast of Video Game Podcast Chats, we talk about two new things in or around the world of games.

First up we talk about having total open-world fatigue. Fairly self-explanatory, no need to over embellish that. We follow that with something that does need explaining, cast your minds back to when Yukes were basically fired by 2K on the WWE games. In the back half of this episode, we discuss what this means for other franchised sports games. Here's looking at you, FIFA.

It's funny how quick a news story goes from being hot stuff to sand in the wind. On this edition of the Geek Show's Video Game podcast, we have one such story in the first half of the show.

A head honcho on the PlayStation brand talked about how the PS5 will have a very different relationship with Indie Games as compared to the PS4. And, being the purveyors of content hunting for those hot, hot clicks, you bet we made a video about it.

Plenty of Indie Games talk in the first half, which is the absolute opposite to the second half. In the back end, we talk about whether there is actually an appeal to the much-maligned (these days anyway) AAA game. There is, but we need to do some digging to find it.

This time out, we are dropping a big long whamma jamma of a Press X episode.

Nothing complicated to explain here, it's an episode about E3 2019. Electronic Entertainment Expo, in its final throes of clinging onto relevance. In the first part, we talk about Microsoft. In the second its the turn of the other main conferences. And the last part is the PC gaming show. Best listen to this with a pen and a piece of paper, or, you know, modern implements - it's not the 1970s anymore.

The featured image is from Cyberpunk 2077.

This time on the geek show's video game podcast, there's a change in cast. In the first half of the show, Producer Rob was in foreign waters having a nice paddle. So, in his stead, Andy subbed in and he and Rob talked about how they'd fix the WWE and FIFA Games. Fun fact, fun fact fans, still completely relevant too - which is just embarrassing.

In the second half, Produced Rob returned, and the two Rob's discussed Augmented Reality Vs Virtual Reality. Nothing fancy there, fairly straight forward talking point. I'm sure it plays out that way too, yep, absolutely certain.

Press X and your podcast will be revived and then spam everyone's podcast feed - Stage 2.

This time on Press X, the two Rob's open the show by talking about the ways in which gaming consoles could evolve in the future. This was recorded just prior to Google Stadia, which we don't pre-empt, we predict a few things a bit more ambitious.

Then, in the second half, as the old gamers that we are, we ask the utterly pointless question of whether the arcade could actually return whilst suggesting a few ideas for how they could. We know they won't return, seriously, we do, but just humour us, okay?

We moved to YouTube, and now we are bringing all that content to all the audio heads out there. In these episodes, two videos are smooshed into one fantastic new audio podcast. We will be releasing the entire archive this way before we do a big relaunch of the show, so stay tuned for that.

That's running off into the sunset though, let's focus on now, for now. On this episode, [the] Rob's talk about whether Video Games can truly be scary and in the second half, we ask whether there is room for another football game to muscle in on the market dominated by FIFA, and, to a lesser extent, PES?

Tis the season to be grumpy, and nobody complains like a gamer (or spits their pacifier out/throws their toys out of the pram). Now there are plenty of reasons to complain about a game (micro-transactions, pay-walls, pay-to-win, gorily-detailed hunting, forcing developers to censor their games after signing exclusivity contracts, etc), but some are more valid than others - and yes, we are looking very pointedly at the developers of Playing History 2: Slave Trade here.

Anyway, before we get into the meat of the show there’s a bit of time for Producer Rob to introduce to the joys of Moonlighter - an indie dungeon crawler with shop mechanics from Digital Sun and 11 bit Studios that he’s bee addicted to recently.

After that it’s time for Andy and Mark to join the fray for this week’s big question - What Would Make You Boycott a Video Game?

Andy, Mark and Producer Rob join forces once again to tackle some of the interesting topics about video games, and with the release of the highly-anticipated Red Dead Redemption 2 the gang decide to take a look at the games set in the Old West.

But before all of that it’s time to catch up with what we’ve been playing and as usual, everybody’s got something different with Mark pouring more hours into Dragon Quast XI: and the Kemono Friedns puzzle game, Andy investigating ancient ruins and the art of the suplex in Shadow of the Tomb Raider and WWE 2K19, and Rob exploring the remarkably strange world of Yakuza Kiwami 2.

After that it’s time to grab a six-shooter, saddle-up, and ride through the wastelands of video game nostalgia to find out why the Old West is an inspirational yet marginalised time period in the medium.

And like any good gunslinger, they pay special attention to the horses.

On the last episode we challenged each other to play a game that we owned that we didn't buy and wasn't released this year, and the results are definitely … weird.

Andy found himself playing an obscure online game called Dino D-Day and the Omen-esque horror Lucius 2. On the other hand, Mark sample the "My First JRPG" mechanics of Guardian's Crusade on the PS1 before he got distracted and wound up playing Stranded Kids on the Gameboy Color. As for Producer Rob, he decided to take Dragoneer's Aria on the PSP for a spin.

Anyway, our main discussion this week is about the games that we've completed, in particular the ones that we're proud of completing, which naturally leads us on to the subject of trophies and achievement hunting …

After a long hiatus where we all left to travel and “find” ourselves, Press X returns in an altered format.

On this return episode, join Mark, Andy and Producer Rob as they discuss the Megadrive Mini, controversy about Farcry 5, eye-tracking software and Minecraft, the Western release of Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura, and PUBG’s “ransomware”.

Until next time, don’t play anything we wouldn’t!

Press X returns to talk about more games that we've been playing recently, video games publishers and developers that are trading in nostalgia, and the rise and fall and rise of the point-and-click genre.

This week we've been playing a veritable smorgasbord of games, from the mobile-to-PC port First Strike: Final Hour and beat-'em-up but not-quite-sequel Guilty Gear Xrd REV 2, to the nostalgia-fest that is Yooka-Laylee and the Haruki Murakami-themed point-and-click adventure Memoranda. As if that wasn't enough, we also get to grips with fast-paced construction survive-'em-up Fortnite and a recent addition to the long, long line of Musou games - Samurai Warriors: Spirit of Sanada.

Until next time, don't play anything we wouldn't.

We're a video games podcast aren't we? Maybe? It depends on the day I guess?

This week we have a plateful of anime-themed gaming for your tastebuds. First up we have the release of the rarest thing in gaming - a new Nintendo franchise - with a slightly surreal punch-'em-up called Arms. After that we launch into a trio of titles with a strong connection to anime, starting with Accel World Vs. Sword Art Online: Millennium Twilight before moving on to the much-anticipated Valkyria Revolution, and finally finishing with God Wars: Future Past - a tactical JRPG that takes a lot of inspiration from the Kojiki and other parts of Japanese folklore.

Next time out we'll return to being a video games podcast, possibly. Until then, don't play anything we wouldn't play.

We return to the expansive wilds of the video game world for that part of the annual release schedule that is often referred to as a barren wasteland.

A quick rummage around the box of games leads to a very mixed bag of things to play, including Cladun Returns: This is Sengoku!, DiRT 4, Micro Machines: World Series and Dark Rose Valkyrie, and as if that wasn't enough, we also talk about early gaming memories.

Until next time, don't play anything we wouldn't play.

Now that the dust has settled it's time to survey the wreckage left by the biggest gaming convention on the planet, which can only mean one thing. It's time for our E3 special!

We take a look at all the interesting happenings (including the Xbox One X and more), but since there's no point in bringing up the same titles we discussed on last year's special we're sticking to only the newest game announcements.

Until next time, don't play anything we wouldn't play.

While all the other gaming podcasts are off flirting with trailers, we're talking about games we've been playing. Don't panic though, as we'll be joining the throng next week when all the E3 dust has settled.

It's not a classic selection of games this week, but the titles we have up our sleeves include Operation Babel: New Tokyo Legacy, The Town of Light, Dreamfall Chapters, Utawarerumono: Mask of Deception and, saving the best till last, Friday the 13th - The Game.

Until next time, don't play anything we wouldn't.

Sarcasm isn't the lowest form of wit. It's actually puns and bad segues, and we emphatically prove that in this week as we work through a mega-list of diverse games (you can imagine how ridiculous things get).

So, on this episode we take a look at deep breath Birthdays: The Beginning, Outlast 2, Endless Space 2, The Disney Afternoon Collection (DuckTales 1 & 2, TaleSpin, Darkwing Duck, and Chip 'n' Dale: Rescue Rangers 1 & 2), Akiba's Beat, Steel Division: Normandy '44 and Injustice 2 ... and exhale.

The Surge is most definitely not The Purge. That said, how good would a Purge game be in the right hands?

Welcome to Press X, The Geek Show podcast network's very own video games show, and this week we've got the sci-fi techno-horror The Surge, A New Frontier - the latest season of the Telltale's The Walking Dead adventure series, and grand strategy title Romance of the Three Kingdoms XIII (you don't need to play the other twelve). We round out the show with goblin stealth-em-up, Styx: Shards of Darkness and a final duo of JRPGs with Toukiden 2 and Dragon Quest Heroes II.

This week we hit the wall with gaming exhaustion at it's most incomprehensible before finding our happy place.

We start by getting elbow deep in the strange puzzle combination of Puyo Puyo Tetris, the cute-yet-gothic puzzle-platformer A Rose in the Twilight, and indie roguelike action-platform game Toy Odyssey: The Lost and Found. After that we talk about the state of affairs then get lost in the crafting wonders of Atelier Firis: The Alchemist and the Mysterious Journey before finishing with a flamboyant flourish with the hotly anticipated Persona 5.

Controversial opinions and sandwich conspiracies ahoy on this latest episode of Press X.

On the gaming side of things (that is what we're all about after all), our bounty includes a load of LEGO (Worlds and City: Undercover), the strange Japanese school-based visual novel stylings of Danganronpa, the latest Telltale excursion in the form of Guardians of the Galaxy, the rather lovely Celtic puzzler Scéal, and a contender for most laboured subtitle of the year - Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.

A little something for everyone and a big old pointy stick to poke the Monokuma.
