Would you like to hear a story that truly inspires? ✨

For all the yogis who feel like they don’t quite fit in or think they have to shed their past to embrace spirituality—this one’s for you.

🌀 Erin interviews Raghunath Ray Cappo for the first time, and what an inspiration he is!

From New York’s hardcore punk scene to the heart of Vedic teachings, Raghunath shares why you don’t have to change your essence—just refine it. Spirituality isn’t about swapping identities but using who you already are to elevate your consciousness.

From leading hardcore punk bands like Youth of Today to guiding global retreats and hosting the Wisdom of the Sages podcast, Raghunath shares how contrasting worlds collide and enrich his life.

In this Part 2 episode of the 2 part series,

Raghunath shared his insights on how passion can unleash hidden talents and gifts, allowing individuals to express themselves authentically. He drew parallels between martial arts and creative expression, highlighting how both require a blend of discipline and innovation. Raghunath's experience in jiu-jitsu, particularly his admiration for Eddie Bravo's creative approach to the sport, served as a metaphor for how we can evolve and adapt in our own lives.

As our conversation progressed, we touched on the importance of embracing our unique identities. Raghunath reflected on his own journey of reconciling his past as a punk musician with his current role as a yoga teacher. He candidly shared his initial struggles to fit into the conventional mold of a spiritual teacher and how he ultimately learned to embrace all facets of his identity. This theme resonated deeply, as we both acknowledged the societal pressures to conform and the liberation that comes from owning our true selves.

A poignant moment in our discussion arose when Raghunath spoke about the impact of his father's passing. He shared how this loss prompted a deeper exploration of his spiritual practice and a reevaluation of his life's purpose. We discussed the significance of life's milestones in shaping our spiritual journeys and how they can serve as catalysts for growth and introspection.

Throughout the episode, Raghunath's passion for sharing wisdom and guiding others was evident. He spoke about his upcoming pilgrimage and the importance of creating experiences that blend spiritual depth with accessibility for participants. His enthusiasm for helping others find their own paths was truly inspiring.

As we wrapped up our conversation, I felt a renewed sense of motivation to embrace my own unique journey and to encourage others to do the same.

Raghunath's story is a testament to the beauty of living authentically and the transformative power of passion, creativity, and spiritual exploration!

Some stories are so powerful, they change the way we see the world. This is one of them.

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching, I have the absolute honor of sitting down with Raghunath Ray Cappo—a man who has lived at the edges of intensity, from the raw energy of punk rock to the deep devotion of Bhakti Yoga.

Once the frontman of Youth of Today and Shelter, Raghunath lived and breathed the chaos of the punk scene before walking away from it all to immerse himself in a world of devotion, discipline, and spiritual awakening. He spent six and a half years as a monk in an ashram, and now, years later, he teaches others how to integrate ancient wisdom into everyday life.

✨ In this conversation, we dive into:

💥 How punk rock and Bhakti Yoga are more connected than you’d think 🎶 The electrifying energy of Kirtan—like a mosh pit, but infused with love 🌍 His sacred journey through India—Rishikesh, Mayapur, Jaipur—where devotion pulses through the streets 🥋 The surprising connection between Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and spirituality 💡 The magic of living with both structure and spontaneity

Hearing Raghunath speak is like sitting around a fire, listening to a traveler who has walked the long road and returned with wisdom. His story is living proof that transformation is not just possible—it’s inevitable when we surrender to something greater.

This is just Part 1 of our conversation, and trust me, you won’t want to miss what’s coming next.

🌿 Dive deeper: 📖 Read Raghunath’s memoir: From Punk to Monk 🎙️ Listen to his daily podcast: Wisdom of the Sages 🕉️ Explore his life-changing yoga trainings & retreats in India: https://www.raghunath.yoga/

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit, I, Erin, share my insights on bhakti yoga and its application in our daily lives. As I prepare for Yoga Church at my studio, I express my gratitude to listeners from around the world and my local community for their support and curiosity about my journey.

I delve into the principles of bhakti yoga, emphasizing the importance of devotion and connection with the divine. I discuss the significance of having ethical guidelines, or "bumper rails," to help us navigate our spiritual paths and maintain awareness of our actions and thoughts. Key pillars of bhakti yoga include non-criticism, tolerance, non-offense, and the importance of quick apologies. I share personal anecdotes to illustrate how these principles have shaped my interactions and self-awareness.

Additionally, I touch on the concept of archana, or forming a relationship with the divine through rituals, and how my involvement in a yogi punk rock band has become a creative outlet for expressing spirituality. I also explore the idea of forming friendships with the divine and others, highlighting the importance of kindness, gratitude, and community.

Throughout the episode, I encourage listeners to engage in self-study (swadhyaya) and maintain a spiritual discipline (sadhana) to enhance their lives. I conclude by inviting those interested in joining my upcoming retreats in India or Japan to reach out and reminding everyone to leave a review for the podcast.

Thank you for tuning in, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

In this episode of Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching, I, Erin, welcome listeners back on a rainy Monday in Braintucky, Florida. I share my recent experiences, including a productive weekend spent on administrative tasks and teaching a yoga teacher training course with 11 enthusiastic participants. This marks my 14th training, and I reflect on the dedication and love I pour into guiding my students.

Continuing my series on Bhakti Yoga, I delve into its core principles and practices. For those who missed the previous episode, I encourage listeners to catch up, as I discuss the foundational pillars of Bhakti Yoga, which emphasize devotion to the divine through non-criticism, tolerance, gratitude, and seeing the good in others.

I introduce the concept of Archana, which involves forming a relationship with the divine through rituals like puja. I explain the significance of Ganesha in these rituals and how they help focus the mind and connect with something greater than ourselves. I also share my personal connection with the deity Saraswati, highlighting how this relationship enriches my life and practice.

Next, I explore the idea of Sakya, or forming a friendship with the divine. I discuss how this concept can make spirituality feel more accessible and relatable, likening it to the joy of meeting a friend. I emphasize the importance of mantra and chanting in Bhakti Yoga, describing how these practices can open the heart and facilitate a deeper connection to the divine.

I touch on the practice of Swadhyaya, or self-study, encouraging listeners to pay attention to their thoughts and behaviors. I share insights from my own life, including a new relationship that has highlighted the beauty of attention to detail and self-awareness.

Sadhana, or disciplined practice, is another key aspect I discuss. I stress the importance of having a regular practice for emotional and mental hygiene, comparing it to physical hygiene and the necessity of maintaining clarity in our lives.

Finally, I conclude with the significance of Sangha, or spiritual community. I reflect on my journey in building a connected community at Thrive, emphasizing how vital it is to have supportive relationships on the spiritual path.

I hope this episode provides valuable insights into Bhakti Yoga and inspires listeners to deepen their practice and connection with the divine. I invite feedback and encourage listeners to reach out, share their experiences, and leave reviews to help others discover the podcast.

This episode kicks off a three-part series inspired by an adapted 12-step program on grief and heartache, which has been transformative for me. The first step I’ll discuss is admitting powerlessness over heartbreak—a humbling realization for someone who’s used to being self-sufficient. Acknowledging my vulnerability has allowed me to embrace my needs, ask for help, and grow through this pain.

I’ll also share three questions that have shifted my perspective:

  1. What did I do right in the relationship?
  2. What am I doing well in life now?
  3. What can I do for myself in this moment?

These reflections have been powerful tools for self-compassion and healing. Grief is tough, but it’s also an opportunity to reconnect with yourself.

I’m excited to announce I have five spots left for my transformative trip to Japan! This journey blends cultural exploration with personal growth.

Welcome back to Thrive Yoga Fit Transformational Coaching! I'm Erin, and in this episode, I continue the conversation from my last podcast, diving deeper into the transformative power of questions, especially after experiencing a breakup or a sudden shift in life circumstances.

I share my personal journey of navigating a traumatic breakup that left me feeling lost and overwhelmed. It’s important to acknowledge that breakups can be complex and filled with mixed emotions, and I emphasize that it’s normal to feel a range of feelings, including guilt and shame. However, I’ve discovered that asking the right questions can help shift our mindset and pull us out of that dark hole.

In this episode, I introduce three powerful questions designed to help you reflect positively on your experiences:

  1. What did I do good or right in this relationship or situation? This question encourages you to focus on the positive aspects of your actions rather than dwelling on what went wrong. I explain how shifting your focus can change your physical and emotional state, helping you feel more expansive and less contracted.
  2. What am I doing good or right in my life in general? This question serves as a stepping stone to recognize the good in your life beyond the recent challenges. I stress the importance of not overcomplicating this process and instead quickly identifying positive aspects of your life.
  3. What can I do right or good for myself in this moment? Here, I encourage listeners to take actionable steps to nurture themselves, whether it’s through self-care, reaching out to friends, or engaging in activities that bring joy.

Throughout the episode, I discuss the significance of maintaining a higher frequency and a loving mindset. I share personal anecdotes about the importance of self-love and the impact of supportive friendships during tough times. I also touch on the idea of using mantras to reinforce positive thoughts and combat negative self-talk.

I conclude by inviting listeners to reach out for support, whether they need clarity after a breakup or simply a kind word. I encourage everyone to embrace their worth and recognize that it’s okay to make mistakes. Life is a journey, and with the right mindset and tools, we can navigate through the challenges and emerge stronger.

In this episode, Erin shares a live recording of her yoga church at Thrive Yoga & Fitness (recorded live every first Sunday 11:15am EST).

The Yamas and Niyamas are ethical principles and guidelines in Ashtanga Yoga that help practitioners cultivate a balanced and harmonious life.

The Yamas consist of five moral restraints that guide our interactions with the external world. They are: 1. Ahimsa (Non-violence): Avoid causing harm to oneself and others in thoughts, words, and actions. 2. Satya (Truthfulness): Practice honesty and truthfulness in all aspects of life. 3. Asteya (Non-stealing): Refrain from stealing or coveting others' possessions, ideas, or time. 4. Brahmacharya (Moderation): Cultivate self-control and channel energy towards spiritual growth. 5. Aparigraha (Non-possessiveness): Let go of attachment to material possessions and cultivate contentment.

The Niyamas consist of five personal observances that focus on self-discipline and inner development. They are: 1. Saucha (Cleanliness): Maintain cleanliness and purity in one's body, mind, and environment. 2. Santosha (Contentment): Cultivate a sense of gratitude and contentment with what one has. 3. Tapas (Discipline): Develop self-discipline and perseverance to achieve personal and spiritual goals. 4. Svadhyaya (Self-study): Engage in self-reflection, study of sacred texts, and self-inquiry. 5. Ishvara Pranidhana (Surrender to a higher power): Surrender one's ego and will to a higher power or divine consciousness.

By practicing the Yamas and Niyamas, individuals strive to cultivate a balanced and ethical lifestyle, fostering personal growth and spiritual development.

In this episode Erin goes into great detail about how to use self inquiry to become aware of belief systems that are sabotaging our relationships.

There’s three parts to this process. First, we become aware of the belief system, second we figure out where it came from or at the very least a connection to it and a big emotional charge in the body, and we process and feel that using different techniques.

Then finally we introduce new belief systems that are more productive for the life that we want to live. We have the ability to consciously choose. Namaste

This is normal, but becoming aware of the manuals (and having conversations about them) will allow you to discuss your needs while being fair to each other. Unspoken "manuals" about can otherwise create a toxic dynamic for partners, whereas discussing your needs and wants can really help to bring you closer.

We can wrap our heads around this by knowing if we think something, as a result we feel something. The emotion echoing through our body has a vibration which can be healing in the body and make us feel good.

If we feel good, we are more open and feel connected. If we feel more connected we see the world in a broader sense, feel more grateful, can be more focused, and even recognize opportunity more.

Enjoy!

This episode touches on a topic I coach on a lot and a topic near to my heart. In this episode I talk about my experience with this. Codependency can be subtle like trying to alleviate another's suffering too much by trying to fix their problems. We take them on as our own. When we do that we steal away the chance for another to pull out their own resources. Join the Heal Your Body Retreat!

Svatantrika, Patience, Orgasms, and Working through tough emotions… Today Erin talks about the pulsation of life and how it affects everything. When we clench down we get stuck in energy and when that happens we feel disconnected. By opening to the fact that sometimes we are expansive and sometimes we are contracted, we can better accept ourselves in any state and know it's part of the human experience.

In this episode Erin talks about the value of having uncomfortable conversations and how theyare the cornerstone of strong, deep, and meaningful relationships. When we don't express our feelings in an honest way, resentment builds, we disconnect, and we grow apart. By facing our fear of rejection, discomfort, and making others uncomfortable, we find freedom within and connection to others while feeling heard and seen. Social Media Addiction - in this episode, Erin talks about social media addiction. The problem with social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram is that they track your behaviors and patterns to a T. Then they use that information to manipulate your behavior. People can do this to us as well, but we know people can do it. We may have no idea that even our emotions and thoughts are being manipulated by these platforms. This podcast was inspired by a happening in my life where I just goofed and made a huge mistake. Rather than beating myself up (which was my old pattern) I remembered a story:A yogi was walking alongside her guru and expressing how guilty she felt about a mistake shemade. The guru listened with full attention and then replied, “How egotistical of you?”The devotee was quite shocked at the response, but then the guru continued. “How egotistical of you to assume you are so perfect in your human-ness that you are not afford a mistake.”When I heard this, I felt instant relief. I also include some additional tools and tips to help process.Namaste Reach out Erin@ErinCoach.comwww.thrivingafteraddiction.comCheck out Erin's Heal Your Body Retreat:http://www.thriveyogafit.com/heal-your-body

This meditation was inspired by physical pain I had been dealing with.

Pain is something we all experience as humans, but suffering can be optional. Suffering happens when we wrap a story around our pain. This amplifies it and causes it to intensify and overwhelm us.

When we choose to go into our pain with presence and compassion, we are able to find a deeper space of peace once more. Then the pain may still be there, but it can become so much less.

In this meditation, Erin guides how to navigate jealousy and the insecurity that comes up around it. So often we forget our greatness, beauty, and that we are a whole human being. With jealousy many times we are objectifying ourselves and others. Our world becomes very small and we feel rejected and alone. Many times it just takes allowing the insecurity to come up and pass so we can start filling ourselves up with self love. Then jealousy becomes much less.

In this meditation, Erin guides you through the fire of Anger. Anger is something we often push down and resist because of how our parents or mentors modeled how to handle this emotion. Many times it just takes allowing the anger in a safe environment to start changing our relationship with it.

We talk about my story in depth and what was modeled for me as a child by my parents and other fun and interesting things!

Reviews, leave a review.

New meditation is out! Hooray!

If you have spent so long rejecting yourself, it feel foreign to start loving yourself. It's in our culture and very marketed not to love our selves. If we were happy and content, we wouldn't buy or need as much. True happiness and contentment comes from within.

For me on my journey, I took a lot of my self rejection out on my body. It's something I still deal with in bits. We can call it one of my constant practices. I have to be aware when I start comparing and contrasting or looking in the mirror for too long, because I do still have some judgey voices in my head about my body.

One thing I have found that helps is making it ok that I still have those thoughts. It takes the shame charge off of it. I look at it as a past pattern and a coping mechanism for my brain. That doesn't mean I don't take action to correct it. It just means I don't shame myself when it happens. When I am in shame, I can't think straight. It feel like I'm walking through a swirling thorny tornado that's gray and I'm just waddling along with my arms outstretched grasping for whatever I can to bring peace.

I have found ways to love and appreciate my body and most of that is through movement. I workout and I enjoy it. I don't do it because I have to, I do it because I want to feel good. I mean, I like feeling good. Yoga helps me with that as well. I enjoy stretching and bending my body. I feel like I am touching something deep inside of me when I do it. When I'm bending in a pretzel I find myself so grateful my body can do this.

Recap:

Become aware of the statements you say to yourself about your body. Make it ok that you have those statement, and when they come up, don't stress over them. Just look at them objectively. The more you switch your attention when they come up to something positive, the more they lose their power over you. It's like if you feel trapped in a conversation with someone at a gathering, and someone else buts in and talks, you can more easily bow out. I know ya'll have been there. Lol.

Then find all the things you appreciate about yourself.
