In this episode Diaka Koroma, CEO of Girlz Empowered Sierra Leone, a social enterprise that works with girls, their families and communities, through their educational programs targeting to raise awareness on FGM, early and enforced child marriage and all forms of violence on women and young girls. She shares the challenges that she has faced in setting up her organisation, and campaigning against the practice of FGM in Sierra Leone.

Low education and poverty rate of women and girls is a vehicle that conveys the prevalence of FGM in Sierra Leone as seen in the Demographic Health Statistics (DHS 2013 report). The survey report shows that only 13% of women with no education believe that FGM should be discontinued, whereas 41% of women with secondary or higher education believe that it should be discontinued. Through its programs, Girlz Empowered works to increase the rate of enrollment, retention and completion of girls schooling in Sierra Leone.
