On todays episode I speak about the importance of being present, mentally and physically, being all in.
Show Notes:
Intro - Yes team, back with another solo one and back after a week in Sicily with Sarah (which stems the topic of discussion today)
What do I mean?
Being all in
Being present in the moment and being distraction free is something really taught by my good friends at Lululemon
How many times are you distracted by your phone?
In fact if any of you are on the phone right now scrolling through Instagram, turn it off and put it away
Mention ruling to self when listening
Being distraction free
The easiest way to be distraction free is to purely eliminate it
My work life balance has improved dramatically ever since investing in a work phone
Laptop didn’t work on holiday (godsend)
Mentally Present
It is all well and good being physically present but are you mentally? Putting your phone on the table when out for food - not present
Thinking about how much work you have to do when you’re having fun - not present
The Benefits of Being Present after
It’s amazing, every time I let myself truly relax and be present nothing else matters
Problems seem to disappear
Stress levels go down
Yet why do we not allow these times more
Self Realisation
Something I am bad for
Being present is a quality a lack and I am trying to get better

How do team, in this weeks episode, I speak about the importance of going the extra mile with your clients. The service you deliver is a direct reflection on the luck you create around your business.
Intro - Before we get going I feel there is too many people moaning about not making enough money yet they aren’t doing anything about it. If you’re a business owner, or even a salesperson trying to make commission, go and sell. It’s simple
Effort = Reward - The amount of time and effort you put into a client the more likely it is they will become a long standing client. Don’t be annoyed when a client leave you after a month because you offered them nothing and they have less in the bank.
Going the extra mile - I’m not saying you have to shine your clients shoes but some extra service “not included” in the price doesn’t go a miss. Leading on from this, I give the example of giving someone a free recipe book or having a towel of your client, or t shirts, water bottles, I could go on and on. Take the client out, see them outside the work environment. Show them you care, it’s a two way street.
Offering quality reflecting client quality - If you service is crap, you can’t expect to have good clients. When I say good clients, I mean ones you have a strong relationship with, ones who are reliable, ones you can count on, ones you get results from. If what you offer it below par, how can you expect an above par client? It doesn’t work
Making your own luck - I’m sure a lot of you have been effected by covid and potentially are now struggling, however, I’m a big believer in creating your own luck. You could get unlucky and lose clients, BUT if you served for those clients well over lockdown, would they still leave you? Let’s take it from a business standpoint, if you’re working in marketing and you have clients you need to sell too. If another company looked after that said client more than you, you’ve already lose them
Excuses - I’m fed up of people using excuses as to why they have no clients. If someone else in your industry is busy, you have to ask yourself “what an I doing wrong” “what do I need to improve on”. Stop blaming everyone else for why your business is suffering, take a stop back and look at yourself. It’s you and only you
Conclude - Don’t be a dick

In this weeks episode, I speak about the importance of a day off in a business point of view and how it greatly increases overall productivity.
Show Notes:
Why I am making this podcast - Last Saturday was my birthday so all week I had planned to take the entire Friday and Saturday off. I can probably count in one hand the amount of days off I have had over the last 3 years and 2 of them were this weekend…
What I mean - Obviously I have gone away on holiday over the period but there has rarely been a day I haven’t checked my emails, checked in on clients or even not lifted the laptop lid.
Resetting - I have never felt so refreshed and stress free after allowing myself full time out. I always worry something might happen, someone might need me. But in reality, nothing did. In fact It literally didn’t matter at all.
Training - The funny thing is when it comes to training I allow myself days off. Im always preaching to clients the importance of a day off the weights to allow your body to recover and better performance on your training days. So why don’t I take this into business
Performance - You really can work yourself into the ground sometimes and can do more harm than good. Over lockdown a big lesson for me was to relax in the evenings but I still haven’t given myself a day or two off.
Inability to switch off - When I look at I know I am bad at not switching off. I am alway ‘on it’. My mind is always active - this could be a good or bad thing. I truly am obsessed with everything I do.
Stress - Yes I love what I do and honestly wouldn’t do anything else if I was asked but it is still my job. It still comes with enormous amounts of pressure. People from the outside just see the IG posts, the podcasts, client progress, the videos. What they don’t see is the endless endless graft and dedication it takes to being self employed and own multiple businesses. The saying “if it was easy everyone would do it” springs to mind.
The solution - I’m not all of a sudden going to start having days off every week willy nilly but the importance now of a complete switch off will be welcomed. I won’t fear it anymore, I will enjoy it.

In this episode I speak about the importance of having a plan and why you need to adhere to that plan. Do not neglect the power of writing it down.
Show notes:
Question - do you have a vision? do you have goals? Do you have a plan? If not, why not?
Direction - Having goals is great but if you don’t have a plan, these goals are meaningless. Goals without being written down is just a thought
Time frame - You might want to get in shape for a holiday or earn a certain amount of money by a date. However, how will you get there? What process will you put in place?
Circles - Ever feel like you’re driving on a roundabout when it comes to fat loss or business progression? Stop allowing time to buy and being part of the ride. Stop, get out the car and detail out your journey. Not having a plan is like deciding to walk from London to Manchester without preparing your journey. Forget google maps in this time, before these days we had to use a map and plan the route. I very much doubt that someone ‘winging’ it would arrive to Manchester first over the person who planned their route
End goal - You may eventually get there without the plan on the off change but you won’t get there as productively than the person with the same goal but a plan in place
Effort - A lot of people turn a blind eye to their plan, it’s too much effort. It takes time. We want the easy route, not the one where we have to spend time creating a plan to get anywhere. I spoke about on the “why having a diary will change your life” about the power of writing a goal down at a certain date I usually achieve that goal in that specific time
The plan - Smart goals. Short, medium and long term goals. Start at the long and work back through the short. For example - “I want to lose 8% body fat before my holiday in 8 months”. Our medium term goal is to lose 1% per month. Our short term is to maintain without a calorie deficit by 400 on a daily average. Now the 8% drop doesn’t seem so daunting. It helps our focus, our visualisation.
Conclude - “if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail”

In this episode I speak about the importance of living a happy life and you can without a doubt manifest the life you want to live. Do not accept anything less
Show Notes:
Intro -
The odds of being alive is 1 in 400 trillion so why live a life of unhappiness
My past -
I’m sure you’ve heard it before about pursuing the path of accountancy but this wasn’t my passion. It didn’t fill me with joy.
It didn’t make we want to get up in the mornings
Make a change -
Its on you to live the life you want to.
As simple as it is to say, it’s you or you.
No one else can decide your destiny.
If you want it go get it. What’s stopping you?
Regret -
My biggest fear in life is regret.
Looking back and regretting actions I failed to take.
Opportunities I didn’t pursue.
Life’s too short to regret.
Happiness -
A life of little regret in my eyes is a happy one.
A life of enjoying what you do is a happy one. Happiness is a direct reflection on motivation.
A happy entrepreneur is far more dangerous to competitors than an unhappy one.
Excited to wake up -
“I hate Monday’s” we’ll what are you doing?
You shouldn’t hate on Monday’s. You should love Monday’s, it’s the best day of the week.
Today example re coaching & challenge
Conclusion -
You can without a doubt manifest the life you want to live. Do not accept anything less

In this weeks episode, I speak about the importance of a diary and writing things down.
Show Notes:
Intro - Solo Podcast, thanks for the support on podcasts at the moment
Diary/Calendar - Start of my career and swear by it. I genuinely put a lot of my success down to my diary.
Power of writing it down - A goal in your head is just a thought, write it down and make it reality. Daily, weekly, monthly, yearly.
Accountability - Something I get across to clients. You accountable to the diary and what you have written
Fulfilment - Sense of joy and fulfilment when you tick goals off your list
Organisation - A long side having goals you need to write down tasks. Won’t forgot to do things. Keeps you in check (back to accountability point)
Productivity - Setting out your day and planning what you will do and when. Visualising the task at end to be productive. When you finish what you set out to do for the day you feel you deserve to relax
Forward Planning - Setting your targets for the next day or week. On a Sunday, planning the week and having aims
Conclude - Get a diary

Hiring a coach for an investment not a liability - Cost vs Value
Consistency & Accountability - Why it is important to have patience and time on your hands?

Goals for the future - Where do you want to take your coaching? Your clients etc?
Today I am joined by my best friend Matthew Chandler (@matthewchandlerfitness on IG & YouTube) who is in the middle of a prep for a photoshoot. We speak about the harsh realities that comes with putting your body to the extremes it has to in order to be ready for the day.
Show Notes:
Intro - Welcomed by Matthew Chandler (Chan, first guy to meet at Uni) - Brief hello and speak about uni days etc
Training at Uni - Alex and Chan always spoke about prepping. Real desire in bodybuilding and loved everything around it.
Evolving Since Uni - For Alex more functional and less bodybuilding style training, Chan bit of both but still real love for the sport.
Prep - Lets dive deep now. Why did Chan want to prep?
Only decided around 5 weeks ago I would. Point to prove with gyms closed. Always wanted to compete. Short 11 week prep instead of 20. Testing physical and mental strength. How deep are you in now?
Biggest Challenges - Knee pain, low energy, lack of sleep and hunger. Time and dedication.
The Best Bits - Winners mindset. Hunger & food control. Changes week on week. Hard work pays - 110% effort.
Biggest Lessons - Sleep & Digestion is king. Eating for function not taste (like a dog - same meals day on day). Importance of Micros. Supplements.
Importance of having a coach - Your first coach? Plug Ali. Accountability, plan, second opinion, keeps the head on shoulders.
Plans for after this - Just the beginning or? Any shows to plan for 2021?
http://alexfitcleland.com
In this episode I speak about the importance of enjoying the journey and loving the process of achieving your goals.
Show Notes:
Intro - The end goal is great but we have to love the journey to appreciate the finish line
Journey - When we get pleasure. The place where the magic happens
Selling - The end goal sells but it leads people down a false path. It encourages short term fixes
Impatience - As humans we are impatient. We have information at our figure tip. So when we put this to wanting a goal we want it right away
Marketing - What entices you more? “6 pack on 6 weeks” or “6 pack in 18 months” Setting people up to fail
Personal - I have a goal with my business etc but if that is all I cared about I wouldn’t enjoy the now. A client has an end goal but lots of little ones along the way.
Being present - Yes it is great to have long term goals but we need to appreciate the current situation we in. Be content about where we currently are. The process of how we get to the long term goal. Broken down yearly/monthly/weekly/daily
http://alexfitcleland.com
In this episode I speak about the cards you have been dealt with in life and my own personal hand.
Show Notes:
Intro - Today we speak about dealing with the cards you are dealt
Present World - Crazy times going on at the moment talking of exactly the topic on hand today. How we deal with it? How we move forward? What situation you were born in to.
Personal Experience - A privileged upbringing yes but I was taught from my parents you really don’t get anywhere without hard hard work. As a young lad, I was lazy, didn’t work, didn’t take responsibility for my actions and probably in a way thought I was too stupid. My mum was a stay at home mum who did everything for me and my sisters. As a child I didn’t see much of my dad as he was always working to get to where he is now being a very successful business man. So from a young age I experienced the work you have to put in to achieve good things and have a nice life for your family. It was rammed in to me I needed to work hard. My parents always made it known to us, nothing is given and we have to graft. I only started doing this after failing a school year, writing off my car and having a house party (when parents were away). You could call that a big turning point in my life.
Fortunate - I think for me, I am lucky and I am grateful. To be born into the family I am. I take inspiration of my mum and dads relationship and my dad literally is my best mate. So, ok I have been dealt a good hand in life, but I used and am using that hand to its maximum potential.
Not using a good hand - There are people who have incredible upbringings and born into a different world amount of wealth, however more often then not can’t even look after themselves. More often then not, these people have no drive, no motivation and are perfectly happy spending the families money
Dealing with a bad hand - Look at March Rashford, born in a rough estate in Manchester.
Coming from the bottom - I know a lot of people who started at the bottom yet are some of the most hard working people I know. Why? Because they know how it feels to be there and will do everything in their power to never go back. Gary Vee always talks about this fact.
Conclude - You have one life. Joe Rogan & Kevin Hart quote about life being a book. And to finish on another Gary Vee quote “doesn’t matter where you start, it matters where you finish and how you get there”
http://alexfitcleland.com
In this episode, I speak about how important it is to think sensibly when the gyms reopen and the necessary steps you should take.
Show notes:
Reentering - Put excitement aside and think for a minute. So many toys but so many toys to hurt yourself.
DOMS - Going to be a big play
Injuries - More than ever with heavy weights an option again
Programming - Take it easy through simple movement patters (push pull, squat, hinge, lunge, core, carry)
Strength - It potentially will be less so therefore don’t get bogged down when you don’t achieve previous numbers. Slowly work the weight back up
Activity - Naturally with gyms open (more intensity to workouts), normal life will getting back and steps/NEAT output will be higher than during lockdown so therefore eat more and give yourself higher calories
Conclude - Take it easy
http://.alexfitcleland.com
Yes team, in this podcast I speak about how we adapt to change and the steps I took to do so during COVID-19.
Show Notes:
Podcast Intro - Changing and evolving since moving into lockdown
Reaction - Positive! Panic, no - the head stays on the shoulders and we move forward
Process - Putting the correct steps in place. Applying to both yourself and your clients. You need to lead from the front. Show people the path to take for themselves
Time & Opportunity - Using your time efficiently and focusing on things you may not have had time for before. Personal - Moving a lot of the business online
The end goal - Dont lose focus on what you are trying to do. And where you are trying to go. The end goal is the same, all that has changed is the journey. Why it is important to love the process and be in it for the long run
Testing - Life and business is about ups and downs but it is about how we handle them. How we adapt and move forward.
Conclusion - At end of day, we come through this as stronger individuals.
http://alexfitcleland.com
In this episode I speak about the steps you need to take in order to grow your social media during COVID-19 and why there has never been a better time to do it.
Show Notes:
Quality over Quantity - To a certain degree, the more you post the more you learn what your audience wants to dial in on. But there is still nothing worse than a load of rubbish
Time - More time than ever to be pumping out a lot of content and trying different things with your content. Take IG for example (photos, videos, swipe, stories, IGTV)
Multiple avenues - Focus on different platforms, not just one. Experiment and find which one you enjoy and works for you. Titktok - why I don’t use it. Podcasts, YouTube, Linked In
Niche - Find your uniqueness that is different to everyone else. Remember there is no one else like you, you are your own uniqueness and no one can take that away from you. Therefore be you.
Plan - Have a plan with your content, have goals you want to achieve from your socials (why are you doing it, who are you trying to attract)
Community - Focus on your current followers, focus on giving them the best possible content to use for themselves and the rest will come. Focus on your value not on your follower count
https://alexfitcleland.com
In todays podcast, I speak about the journey and transition I have personally been on from focusing so much on aesthetics to where I am today with performance top of the goal list.
Show Notes:
Todays topic - Look good perform well, why I preach it
Backstory - Speak about bodybuilding days, Cottons functional transition, crossfit diameters, the transition to where I am now
Bi product - Looking good and having an aesthetic look comes with the performance. Being athletic you can have both. Just focusing on aesthetics you can’t
Moving well - Not just benefits everything in the gym but outside too. Your everyday movement. 3 planes of movement (sagittal, frontal, transverse)
Mobility - I never used to care, performance increase, avoid injury (isn’t that the goal in the first place?)
Movement screening - Joining the EMA, all members have to do it
Clients - Always assess how they move. Are they moving better? Have their hips become more mobile? Is there shoulder flexion improved and now can overhead press to a greater range of motion?

Show Notes:
First & Foremost - So you all hear this, who actually cares, someone taking time out of their day
My view - If someone leaves negative comments its because they are jealous, trying to bring you down
Doing right - When I received my first hate comment i was glad, people copying you
Experiences - Your form sucks, you don’t know what you’re doing - look at their profile and ummm
Flip to positive - It fuels me, when I get negativity it drives me to push more, genuinely, positive comments are great but its the people who try to bring me down make me more motivated
Why - Ask yourself why they are doing it, are they the only ones?
You do you - Always always always
