In The Game
A podcast project that launched in April of 2020 covers athletes, musicians artist and entertainers. Hosted by former European hockey player Kris Walleyn. Guest appearances that cover current and past events in their lives and ours.
On Episode 20 I sit down with bassist and lead singer Todd Pipes of Deep Blue Something. We chat about his musical influences, the band and changes in technology and the industry. Deep Blue Something is an American rock band best known for its hit single "Breakfast at Tiffany's." The group was founded in 1993 in Huntsville, Texas by students Todd and Toby Pipes, Clay Bergus and John Kirtland. Bergus left the band before "Tiffany's" became a hit and was replaced by guitarist Kirk Tatom, but eventually returned to that role. Todd and Toby are from Denton.
The band's first record, 11th Song, is from 1993. In 1994 (and again, on another label in 1995) the band released their second album, Home. The accompanying single "Breakfast at Tiffany's" reached the top five in the United States and number one in the United Kingdom. The lyrics of the song were inspired by Audrey Hepburn's performance in the feature film Roman Holiday, but the author, Todd David Pipes, thought that one of Hepburn's other films would make a better song title.
The band also had two minor hits from Home, "Halo" which bubbled under the Hot 100 for many weeks in 1996 and "Josey" which peaked at #27 in the UK. Outside the United States, Byzantium was released in 1998. Byzantium had one single, "She Is." Deep Blue Something was released on Aezra Records, an independent label, and the album produced four singles: "She Is, a rerelease," "Hell in Itself," "Military Man," and "Parkbench."

Episode 19 I sit down with Raptors 905 coach Charles Dubé-Brais as we talk about basketball development and growth in Canada and a Toronto Raptors Championship title. My son Aaiden sits in and listens to Charles as he goes over a day in the life of pro basketball, but digging deep into the future of the Raptors and just how important The Raptors organization has been to the growth of the game.

In this episode I chat with Blind Melon guitarist Christopher Thorn about his producing records at his studio Fireside Sound. The list that Christopher has worked many clients that are well known in the music industry, Post Malone, Afghan Whigs, Awolnation, Hedley, Bran Van 3000 and
Tegan And Sara to name a few.
Christopher chats about living and producing in Joshua Tree, CA. where Fireside Sound’s home is conveniently located less than 1 mile from Joshua Tree's charming downtown yet sits on 35 inspiring acres viewing the epic Joshua Tree National Park. We discuss the influences that the desert has on himself as well other artists. The desert's vast space and spectacular views seem to channel creativity and inspiration for everyone who visits there to stay and record.
Christopher and I chat influences as well the Woodstock 94 concert where I believe they had one of their biggest moments, describing their set that day to Queen's Live Aid set. There was a big crowd, a lot of energy and the band was on point, especially Shannon Hoon.
We discussed the difficulties of both losing close friends, both passing under similar conditions and how two of Blind Melons songs "Change" and "Soup" got me through those very dark and tough times, music helps heal the broken soul. Christopher gave me an invite a to Shannon's Character of being all wrapped up as a friend, tough guy and exceptionally gifted and creative and losing him was very difficult for everyone in the band as they had come such a long way in such a short time..........Only to have it come crashing down and be gone.
Christopher was thankful for Danny Clinch and for capturing a lot of memories of Shannon and the Band, but also spoke about the work involved in the movie "ALL I CAN SAY" a master piece that captured from a majority of Shannon filming the band 24/7.
In the end Christopher jumps up and plays an acoustic version of the song "Soup" and dedicates it to both Shannon Hoon and my friend we spoke about Clayton who passed away in 2003 at the age of 23.

We touched a little bit on Adam's father Dorian "Doc" Paskowitz, as well his time as the lead singer of the band called the Flys while being in California.
All in all the Paskowitz family live a pretty cool life now, home schooling their kids and carrying on a unique legacy of the family name. Picking up plastic, caring for the oceans and waterways while harvesting food that is needing to survive the harsh conditions they face from time to time.

In Episode 15 I speak with the J.R. Richards the original lead singer from the American Alternative band Dishwalla. Richards began his career as the lead singer of the alternative rock band Dishwalla. The band released their debut album Pet Your Friends in 1995. The album scored Dishwalla a hit in 1996 with the Richards-penned "Counting Blue Cars". The song is well known for its lyrics, "Tell me all your thoughts on God, 'cause I'd really like to meet Her". Richards won a Billboard Music Award for Top Mainstream Rock Track of the Year. Along with two Gold and Platinum albums, JR also won two ASCAP Awards for both having the Most Performed Song of The Year.
Dishwalla produced four other albums with Richards as lead singer and main songwriter, including And You Think You Know What Life's About in 1998, a live album called Live... Greetings from the Flow State and the 2002 song, Opaline. Richards started playing the piano and singing at age 5. He wrote his first song at age 9 and went on to study both Classical and Jazz until 18. At 20 years old, Richards began studying Bel Canto Opera technique under Ron Anderson and has continued studying since. Richards’ debut solo album A Beautiful End was released in 2009 and debuted in the Top 50 on iTunes. In 2016, Richards released his second solo album, Honore et Amore, as well as an all acoustic album of songs he wrote while in Dishwalla, Stripped. Richards has released two albums since, the holiday EP "Angelgold " in 2018 and an album of covers called "Under The Cover" in 2019. JR is currently working on his 10th album to be released in 2020.
In January 2011, Richards created the 20k Watts project along with Leo and Ryan Rossi. 20k Watts is an Artist Eco Alliance which aims to bring sustainable clean energy to developing communities in need. To empower communities in impoverished areas using the sun, wind, and battery for storing and supplying electricity and enhancing the current and future quality of life. In 2013, the city of Los Angeles awarded Richards a proclamation for dedication to enhancing the lives of families in extreme poverty for his work in El Salvador with 20k Watts.
Richards has been producing since the 1990s and, along with Dishwalla, has gone on to produce other artists including Dom AD, Amy Grant, boudwin, Paddock, Awi Rafael and the British band BritRoyal. He also produced his solo albums as well as songs for the hit TV show, One Tree Hill (TV series), in 2009, How I Met Your Mother, in 2012 and Criminal Minds, in 2013. In 2013, he wrote, produced and performed songs (including the theme song "White Light"), for TV series SAF3 airing in United States in 2013. In 2017, JR also wrote and recorded twenty songs for the newly re-booted version of "Baywatch". He has also appeared as an actor in the films, Charmed, Almost Anything] 2:13 and Morning (which he also scored).
Richards is currently a featured producer for Reid Richards Production, a music and film production company founded by his wife, Min Reid-Richards, in 2010. Reid Richards Productions also specializes in high-end music video production. In addition, Richards also works on voice, song writing and production techniques with various artists and musicians as well as lecturing at various University and Master Class music programs.

Lanni Marchant is a Canadian long distance runner from London, Ontario. On October 20th, 2013, Marchant set the Canadian women's marathon record at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, beating the 28-years-old national record by running it in exactly 2:28:00. Marchant participated at the 2016 Summer Olympics both in the 10,000 metres and marathon events.
The middle of seven children (five girls and two boys) from London, Ontario, Canada, her first sport was ice skating.
In elementary school she ran as part of her curriculum, and as a great way to cross train for figure skating. By the time she hit high school, she also saw it as a way to make new friends. In grade 10, Marchant joined the high school cross-country team, and quickly replaced her skating time with running time. Marchant decided to quit skating the following holiday season, and joined The London Western Track and Field Club.
Marchant kept up her running throughout high school, racing at track meets, and regional championships, eventually earning a scholarship to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. After a frustrating freshman cross country season, she won her first conference championship in the Steeplechase, and went on to win several more titles in the 5,000m, 10,000m, and in cross country. In 2007, after representing the Mocs for 4 seasons, Marchant graduated from UTC with an economics pre-law degree. She moved on to law school at the University of Ottawa, and Michigan State University, graduating in May 2011 with two law degrees. It was during this time that she turned her focus towards road racing, and developed an affinity for the open road. With a hefty work load, and ever increasing mileage, she has claimed "the tenacity I draw on to run marathons was forged during this time".
Marchant placed fourth in the women's marathon event at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, in Glasgow, Scotland, with a time of 2:31:14.
In July 2016 she was officially named to Canada's Olympic team.

He played college football at Hampton University.
We chat winning a super bowl and playing for John Gruden. We get into a little bit of his current tv appearances on "Worst Cooks in America."
Right Said Fred are a London-based English band formed by brothers Fred and Richard Fairbrass in 1989. Their achievements include number 1 hits in 70 countries including one US number 1, one UK number 1, and a number 1 in Japan. We chat a little about their NEW EP and a couple of songs called TideandGood Times Everybody.
We touched on our mums and how family support was good for both of them, as well how the industry has changed over the past 30 years. They look forward to touring once again and making the trip back to North America once the pandemic has settled.

I chat with Canadian baseball player Jordan Procyshen about his path to being drafted to the Boston Red Sox, playing for team Canada and life as a Canadian ball player.

Ben and I talk about his sports and art upbringing that led him to college graphic design and NCAA sports. We dive into where Warstic came from, the meaning behind it and where the product is now.
Designing a surf board for rock icon Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam) and what Native Americans and their history and culture influenced Ben's designs within Warstic. The company started as a baseball bat company and turned into a full fledge hard goods company creating its own line of surf boards, skate boards and baseball gear with the soon to be released fly fishing rods.

Tyson Gillies and I connect with each other about our youth as deaf athletes growing up in Canada. Tyson explains his upbringing as a Canadian deaf child getting into sports, advancing into baseball having been drafted into the MLB. He spent time with the Seattle Mariners and Philadelphia Phillies organizations and won a Gold medal with the Canadian National Baseball team. His goals are now to advance his hockey skills enough to represent Canada at the Deaflympics.
In Part two Shane I discuss his pre game routine and his subway commercial he did in Calgary. We shifted to talking about his future goals, his All-star selection and some of the best players he has seen on both sides of the ball. We close things out with talking about hunting and offseason things as well family and how important time is with them.
Shane and I talk about growing up in Teeterville, Ontario and attending Waterford District Highchool / Western University. We dip into some farm life talk and his draft into the CFL in 2013 to the Calgary stampeders.
We discuss people that Elmo has met on the road while the band toured while growing up, we discuss his favourite cities and venues to play at. shifting to an area nobody like as we talk a little bit of politics and the difference between Canada and the United States.

Covering the onstage connection with creativity between Elmo and his father and the Meat Puppets. We close out part 1 with Elmo asking about marijuana laws in Canada.
We talk about the mount fight between Lilly vs Gibby, Sign stealing, rules changes in baseball and steroid/PED use in baseball. We close it out with Greggs baseball academy in Toronto, Ontario.
In part two Gregg and I discuss the young prospects of todays game at the MLB level, what they are doing wrong with analyzing, developing and mentoring of these top prospects. Moving on to the late 90's we get into the Florida Marlins and the 97' World Series and winning it all, covering a little bit about his years in Toronto and his relationship with Jays players and Roy (Doc) Halladay.
I chat with Gregg about the business side of the game of baseball and being a grinder in baseball.
