In the second episode of "The First Feature" I interview Phillip Youmans: the writer, director, cinematographer, and producer of Burning Cane. Phillip is the youngest and first Black director to win both the Founder's Prize and Best Cinematography at the Tribeca Film Festival and has gone on to be nominated for other numerous awards including the Gotham Award for Best Breakthrough Director, and the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award.
He has also recently written and directed a short film for Hulu titled Imagine A Moon Colony. On this episode, Phillip and I discuss what his process was like making his first movie versus what it is now, Black spy movies and Metal Gear Solid, and where he sees the future of film and television going in a post-pandemic climate.
