Gary was an average student at school, and was led to believe that success was reserved for top students. This inspired him to prove people wrong and continue on his journey of self development. The truth he discovered was that the majority of successful entrepreneurs were also measured as "average" B grade students at school, but were in fact strong in other areas of intelligence that weren't measured during education.
