Welcome to Young People Giving Adults Advice – a place where we hear voices that we’re not used to hearing on subjects from leadership to identity politics, society, success and money. We believe that if we have enough open conversations that we’ll be able to broaden our minds long enough to let some new thoughts creep in and help us figure out how to solve the strange predicaments we are experiencing. If we can bridge the gap between young minds and the current gatekeepers of the professional and political world, maybe we can gather new viewpoints and get closer to a true unity. From there, we can really win from greater creativity, innovation and a way to truly hear each other. Please contact me on hello@youngpeoplegivingadultsadvice.com if you have any questions or know an amazing young person who would be great for us to interview. This podcast is powered by MARCHMADE Collective - http://www.tristanmarch.com/ & English For Business - http://www.englishforbusiness.com.au/podcast/ … And if you’re looking to record remote interviews we use and highly recommend Squadcast! Umut is not only a young person with a strong vision, but also a mentor to other young people in achieving their dreams. To me, he is an obvious leader who understands the rewards to delayed gratification and working hard to get to your destination.
His advice to adults is:
- Stop saying, "when we were young, things were different" because things are always changing and you should learn from what is happening rather than referencing the past
- Be supporters and not decision-makers for your children because it doesn't allow them the ability to make up their own minds

Filippo is 23 years' old and has always felt that he wanted to do something beyond the small town he grew up in. He is a young person who likes planning a lot and this has meant some failures along the way when things haven't turned out the way he wanted - yet, because of this, he has learned a lot and has a very different relationship to 'failure' now - even looking forward to it in some ways.
His advice to adults is:
- to let young people be young people and let them make mistakes; and
- never believe you're too old - it's never too late to try something new.

Karen starts our conversation by stating that she is a learner and that she doesn't feel qualified to give advice. Yet, she has already travelled to 30 countries, created a company and sold it and worked extensively in marketing and tourism. She has a dream to deliver marketing solutions that can clearly and transparently measure return on investment rather than just measuring reach, click through rate and the usual indirect methods. I feel she is humble but has some hidden, bold ideas that she will be more than capable to turn into an amazing success.
Her advice to adults is help each other in order to create a warm world.

Marcelle (16), Summer (13) and Aleya (9) are sisters who are very aware of the difficulties their parents have experienced and feel blessed to have things pretty easy by comparison. They are also looking forward to the freedom adulthood provides and, for now, consciously choosing to not focus too much on future challenges.
These young people advise adults to:
Try not to overcomplicate things.
Think with an open mind and try to be positive.
Equally, it’s ok to not always feel happy, satisfied and content – there will always be negative things but don’t let them get to you too much.
Listen and see if you can see things from another perspective.
Don’t get too stressed or overwhelmed with the little things – it will pass.
