On one hand there is 'What is', and on the other hand there is 'What should be'. What is - is the truth, and What shd be - is the realm of imagination. If we somehow erroneously conclude that what is, is incomplete, and run after What shd be, then this is the longest and also a never ending journey, and is called Samsara. This is the real duality, the prescription to all sufferings. The solution simply lies in becoming aware of the truth of 'What is'. That is freedom - Moksha.
Any person pursuing self-knowledge or meditation generally try to keep aside all desires. They don't see that even to attain the goals of meditation they are driven by some desire. So desire has a positive role too. Basically dsire is like fuel, it drives us, it is only the direction which can be examined. What one needs to desire is right knowledge, moksha, company of enlightened soul etc. So never be in a hurry to keep aside desire, but desire great things intensely.
