The Pohhu Experience is a podcast documenting life after losing over 110 pounds. Initially just a diet goal, it has evolved to become a long-term health quest. The weight loss goal has been met, the exercise goal is just beginning.
Past few weeks I kept seeing the Great Goods Nutrition Food Scale pop up on my social feeds so I decided to get one and see what all the fuss was about. It finally arrived a couple of days ago so this episode I give my honest first impressions and reviews. Also in this episode is KFC calories review and Starbucks calories review. It's always useful to have an idea of what those numbers look like. At the end we continue going through the Q&As from my 2018 book!

Missed an episode last week and it was all cos I got hooked on a new gacha game that just came out. It was so much better than I could have ever imagined, so much fun, so well made, I'll be sharing with you all the details this episode. There was a question I got in my DMs that I wanted to answer this episode cos I think it would provide a fuller answer compared to replying in text. The question was "what are the tenets you adhere strictly to" in terms of weight loss. After that it's the continuation of asking questions from the 2018 ebook.

I was going through some old files and came across the ebook I made back in 2018 that was 200+ pages of our Q&A sessions back then. I thought it'd be fun to go through them now in 2023 to see if any of my answers are different. This episode we only go through 17 pages, we'll keep chipping away in future episodes! Also Pizza Hut calorie review! Out of all the fast food chains out there, this is the one you gotta be a little bit more careful with.

The majority of this episode is about Taipei night markets. Where to go, what foods to try, and some travel tips and tricks. The food and markets I recommend are based on my own experiences and preference. There's some touristy ones, there's some lesser known ones as well. I hope you find this episode helpful in planning your trip to Taiwan if you ever decide to come visit!

I'm back to meal prepping these days, and today I'll break down exactly what I'm eating, how I'm preparing it, and the motivation behind it. Just 2-3 months ago I was doing zero meal prep eating mostly subway to hit my goals, it's kinda funny how fast things change over time. I also go a little deeper into the "proper" way to weigh yourself if you're gonna use the scale to track your progress. Finally I get to share with you all my favorite discovery of 2023 so far, new music that's just so refreshing that I've been playing on loop 24/7 at home for a couple of days now.

Spent 6 days in Seoul, Korea for our first vacation since 2019. Mommy had a list of foods she wanted to hit such as the live wiggly squid, raw beef, raw crab in soy sauce, Korean BBQ and so much more. I recorded this episode less than 48 hours of coming back so my memories were still fresh to recap all our whole trip. I thought this would at most be a segment for this episode but by the time I was done recording I had already been talking for 2hrs straight, so this trip gets its own full episode dedicated to it. I made a mini travel vlog that's up on Youtube if you want to see the visuals of everything I talk about here.

My past weekend was fully consumed by Diablo 4 early access. I went from simply wanting to try it out to getting all available classes to max level. My full review on the game here being a huge diablo fan. On this episode I also discuss the sustainability of the vegan diet which I was on for around a year in the past. This episode's recipe breakdown is going through the burger king menu, and finally I talk a bit about the third biggest bank failure in US history.

This episode we breakdown the one pot instant noodle seasoning soup that I've been making everyday. I break it down to the calorie and macro, along with a step by step how to make it. Then some tips and tricks on how to reach 10k steps daily along with a lengthy discussion on why aiming for year round abs might not be the best idea. This will also be the first time I walkthrough my complete history in esports, esports is a huge part of my life. Finally I walk you through a conversation I had with chatGPT that answered a lingering question I've had over the past few weeks.

This episode dives into the saying, "to be the best, you have to be obsessed." I kinda grew up with the mindset that obsession was always connected with something negative, but over time have found that it perhaps may be a much needed ingredient in progress of any form including weight loss and health. I think this is the first time I've ever talked about mindset in such detail. It then continues on talking about how to deal with anxiety when stepping into a gym especially for the first time. I totally get that it can be scary, but it's truly not as scary as you think. Finally towards the end we have our usual recipe breakdown of 3 new recipes, along with a instant noodle hack that can instantly half or more of regular instant noodle calories.

This episode we make it clear that there's no such thing as a fat loss pill. They all don't work. But along with your journey there are a few supplements out there that you could consider such as whey, creatine, multivitamins and fish oil. We also go through my experience with intermittent fasting, how I started, how I felt experimenting around with the timings, and how I'm using it now. This episode's recipe breakdown includes pancakes, french toast, Fried rice (nasi goreng), and beef rendang.

Today we go into detail on diet breaks, fully explain whether you need it or not while you're going through your journey. It's actually a much simpler concept than most portray it to be. We review 3 evidence based calorie counting apps, and have our first segment of recipe breakdown where I go through recipes and try to modify them to be lower in calories per serving but still keep 80-90% of the taste. Today's recipes included spagetti bolognese, oyakodon, chocolate chip cookies, banana bread and cheese cake.

Today will be the first time I go a lot deeper into breaking down the difference between health and weight loss. I think too often it's clumped together, and it's way easier understood when broken apart. It's totally possible to be healthy and gaining weight, and it's totally possible to be not so healthy and be losing weight. From there I go into MrBeast's newest "controversy", along with Netflix's 24hr backtrack on their newest password guidelines.

First month of 2023 is officially over. How're you doing? This is usually the time where the road gets a little bit bumpy on the weight loss journey. Motivation levels also aren't as high as they were back in early January. So today I go through different ways on getting back on track. The to-do's, and not-to-do's. After last week's episode on the treadmill, I got a lot of questions asking about treadmill recommendations and home gym tips. So we go a tad in depth there too!

This week we talk about subway! Yes subway sandwich which has been a main part of my diet for the past couple of months. Not cos it's superior for weight loss or health or anything, but cos stars just kinda aligned and made it become my go-to meal. I also go in depth discussing whether losing the final 2-3kg is worth it towards your goal weight. It's a much "bigger' problem than workout & weight loss alone. Finally we close this episode off with a little journey into the past to the beginnings of my content creating career, and what I personally feel is the downfall of GaryVee and how he's changed the way I approach social media.

Alright alright the title is slightly misleading, it should be in quotation marks. Today is the story on how I have basically been eating everything that I crave all these years still progressing towards my goals. The day before recording this episode I was going to go for the ultimate 'eat whatever I want' day, but it ended up in... not knowing what to eat at all.
There's a lot of stories I want to share but worry that without context some might take it as truth instead of merely a story or experience. The livestream is starting to feel like a safe place where I can share the little anecdotes in my journey. Today with start with one about my health that I've never really talked about. I think you'll find it super interesting.
Today is all about meal replacement plans. It's one of things that's almost always broken my heart whenever I hear stories about it. It's truly a short term solution to a long term problem. A lot of Q&As as the second half of this episode as well, I hope you enjoy it!
The first full house episode, lots of Q&A from beginning to end. I think it's the first episode that the live stream has shown what I imagined, which is a close interaction with those asking the questions. I love that there can be follow up questions, and I can take my time to answer each question without a character limit. Lots of gold in this one, hope you enjoy it!
Loving the intimacy of live streams. I truly feel there's another depth of discussion being able to react to live questions and comments. This one felt just as super special. This episode we go through tracking food, plateaus, loose skin, metabolism. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The very first Pohhu Experience livestream. Getting this live stream off the ground gave me butterflies in the stomach for the past 2 weeks, but it has truly turned out as good as or even better than I have imagined. Lots of questions answered, stories shared. This episode touches on air-fryers, toning up the body, best exercises, calorie counting, and magic number '27'
This week we talk about productivity, how I plan out my days to make it easier to stick to my diet and exercise plans. We tough on the effects of booze and smoke to your journey along with a special announcement in the end that needs your feedback!
This week is a little trip down memory lane. The main focus was suppose to be about how to eat healthy at home, but instead I think for the first time I talk about road I took to get to where I am now in terms of a content creator & a coach. I really love this new format of just having a conversation. Leave me a message on what we should talk about in future episodes. Anything, doesn't gotta be about nutrition.
I know I know, it's been a delayed 4 months since the last episode and I deeply apologize, but we are back! A lot has changed over the past few months, past few weeks really. I think It's still just sinking in for me. I hope you're safe, let's talk about COVID-19 and how it affects our day to day.
Today is Day 8 of the 75soft challenge. Quick update on my progress along with discussing counting macros or calories, what to do after overeating, tips to reduce carbonated drinks, amount of carbs to consume, and how to get in shape.
Today is Day 1 of #75soft. We talk about why I chose intermittent fasting, running vs jogging, do sweet potatoes actually and why you should never ever ever give up.
Today we talk about eating too little, alternatives to sweet potatoes, not seeing progress in a calorie deficit, meal plans, OMAD and abs.
Today we talk about losing belly fat, the effectiveness of fasting for 16 hours, dealing with hunger, the necessity of whey protein, brown rice vs white rice, whole wheat bread vs white bread, and skipping exercise.
The podcast is back! As I've been holding daily Q&As on IG, there's way more than I can answer so I'd thought I'd answer some on the podcast as well. Tweet at me @pohhuexp what you found helpful in this episode.
The final and my favorite box of the meal prep. Although I always default to the one and only sweet potatoes, there are times I venture out to the legendary guilt trips.
Continuing the meal prep series of the 3 boxes, today we go deep into the protein box. Or should I call it the chicken breast box?
More meal prep! Today let's go in depth into the veggies box. It's not merely about the broccoli, a variety of veggies is important too!
3 boxes meal prep. A little different from the usual ones we see where you cook a huge meal on Sunday, and have meals throughout the week. I've never gotten that to work, I want to so badly but I couldn't, so I figured out another method.
I'm back, the podcast is back! Actually technically I didn't go anywhere, but I haven't been updating the podcast, and I didn't leave a memo, my bad my bad! It's been 200 consecutive days of the daily vlog, and now it's time to do a.. daily podcast?
Out of training for a few days. The first powerlifting injury. Meantime? 3 vlogs in 7 days.
Back from deload, no more myfitnesspal, scale weight going down, still hitting PRs. A quick one this week.
Deload week has ended. Good food, lots of food this week. Ended on a double whammy of to dinners in a row of Burger King. Spicy double cheese whopper, 1000 calories. So worth it, so so worth it. Continuing the cut tomorrow. Much more strict this time.
9 weeks of cutting, now into the deload week. Deload 10 days to be exact along with eating back to maintenance. It's only day 2, it feels been feeling like a vacation. A mini rant about the fitness/health industry today.
Casey Neistat announced his 368 project a couple of days ago, got a 368 project of my own in the works. Food and training have been on point. PR after PR after PR. Sleep has been the sacrificial sheep, but overall just making progress daily.
Weight cut extended. After a haphazard 7 weeks weight cut wise, we're back to square one. Extending the weight cut for a couple of weeks to compensate. No more 8 week weight cut, now the primary goal is to get to 8-10% body fat.
Numero 40. We've come a long way, from zero exercise, vegan, zero supplements, minimal meat to full on powerlifting, daily supplements, whey protein, macro tracking, more meat than ever. A look back at the steps taken, and planning out the future steps.
One month, 4 weeks complete! Officially into the halfway mark. Triple PR. OHP, bench, and squat. New week. New mindset shift. New PRs. This episode is about fiber and fats. The struggles of reaching minimum fats & fiber.
Been in a limbo since I reached my weight goal in October 2016. Been floating around trying flavors of the month without a real goal in sight. That's changed. Got my head straight, clear goals to chase. 280/210/310. SBD. In kg.
This hunger I've never experienced before. Not even during my 110lbs(50kg) weight loss. Starts with the stomach growling, and slowly turns into the whole body shaking. No idea how to battle it so I gave in. Fed it junk. Lots and lots of junk.
Week 2 almost felt like a failure. The initial weight cut plan was too strict. Didn't have the urgency to do it like I did with my initial weight cut. Not giving up the weight cut, just back to the drawing board for a new strategy.
Week 1 is done. 0.9kg(2lbs) lost. 1500 calories a day doesn't feel half as bad as it sounds. Plenty of energy to lift heavy 4x a week. Everything has been on point. Maybe even losing slightly faster than I had hoped. Breakdown of the week.
It's starting. Monday starts the 8 week cut. Trimming the fat, preserving the muscle. Back on a pure whole foods diet. Eating 1500 daily calories. Lifting 4x/week. Documenting everything. Daily updates on Instagram. Weekly updates here & Medium.
It's been 12 weeks since the start of the bulk. The master plan was to go straight into a cut and start trimming the fat. Life got in the way, so time for a mini transit. Recapping the powerlifting & bulk process and game plan for times ahead.
After a great session from the Christmas episode I thought it's about time to another Q&A. Less questions then last time but more in depth. Covering positivity, mindset, the necessity of calorie counting and more. Msg me any questions you have!
CICO. Calories in calories out. The foundation of losing weight. It's not about "what" you eat, it's all about "how much" you eat. This was the method that lost me over 110lbs(50kg). Back then I didn't even know the term CICO. This is my breakdown.
3 days ago I published my weightloss journey for the first time. I've been thinking about doing this since I hit my weight goal over a year ago. Smothered by excuses day after day I kept putting it off thinking my story wasn't good enough. I was wrong.
2018's officially kicked off. Back on the grind! Updates on the bulk extension, dabbling in flexible dieting, and announcing the Medium blog to recall lost memories. Ending with my top 4 tips to keep to your New Year's Resolution.
A full recap of 2017. January was in limbo after hitting goal weight 2 months back. March started habit building. June started documenting. August started bodyweight training. October started powerlifting. Skinny to thick. Cut to bulk. Happy New Year!
Holiday season is here. Thought it'd be fun to do an episode of the FAQs I get over the years. How many sit ups do I do? What kind of diet did I try? Had some deeper questions towards the 2nd half of the episode as well. Merry Christmas & Happy holidays!
A little rant. The numbers that get thrown around is that weightloss is 80% diet, 20% exercise. When doctors told me I had to lose weight they prescribed exercise. I lost over 110lbs/50kg in less than two years doing zero exercise. Zero.
A zero day is a day where you do absolutely nothing towards your goals, dreams, or whatever it is you want to do. A non zero day doesn't mean you completed a set of tasks, or achieved significant progress. A non zero day is simply taking one step forward.
First complete workout week after what feels like a decade. Full barbell training. Having trouble with the bulking process, numbers flying all over the place without having a grasp on a real weight gain. Hopped on calorie cycling, and optimized protein.
Started whey protein this week for the first time in my life. Ended up opening the floodgates of supplements. Fish oil, omega-3s, DHA/EPA, Vitamin D, Creatine. I was hoping use zero supplements and be purely on whole foods. Turns out I was a tad naive.
Feels like I haven't recorded an episode in ages. A wild rollercoaster week. Disappointment at weight loss, a clear concise bulk plan, graduating from dumbbells & moving on to barbells, possible injury and physiotherapy results.
First time being sick after more than 2 years. Instead of taking a break to recover, it ended up being a PR week in lifts. Graduating from dumbbells, big bars coming soon. The ramblings of limited rest & recovery.
Was suppose to go on a two day work trip, ended up on a five day mini family vacation. Previously all I had to worry about was calories. This was the first time I had to think about proteins, and workouts. Wasn't easy, somehow managed. Far from optimum.
Cooking is an under appreciated, undervalued skill. This episode I ramble on a bunch on tangents about learning the fundamentals of cooking. Not learning to follow a recipe step by step, but the basics fundamentals of ingredients & cooking methods.
Decided that a 8% bodyfat goal was contradicting to my longterm goals. I want to build strength. Build muscle. Compete in IPF. Compete in BJJ. That means scrapping the 8% goal, and sprint the opposite direction towards a bulk. Starting my 1st bulk cycle.
Starting to feel an itch to become strong. The pride of having abs was short lived. Being strong is something a little more. Realizing that powerlifting could become a lifelong mastery, the flame is ignited. This is one path I want to travel deep into.
Week 1 of powerlifting training complete. I feel thicker, stronger, all the while still cutting to 8-9% bodyfat. Slowly becoming obsessed with powerlifting. Still focusing on basics of form, on lower weights. Getting impatient striving for improvement.
Went down a rabbit hole. Compound lifts, to 5/3/1, to powerlifting, to training for strength. From boxing & bodyweight training to powerlifting & bbj within the week. In the coach's words, "You fkin changed religion!"
Coach Ice had me to leaning towards trying a bulk cycle, but digging deep I've realize that my goals don't match that path. At the end of the day my long term goals are still the number 1 priority, and I won't be swaying too far from that path.
There were often times I didn't record something down cos I thought it wasn't worth sharing. Documenting a personal journey is an under appreciated process. This episode I go through documenting, communication issues, and an in-house competition.
Bodyweight training has gotten more intense lately to the point where I've decided to shift some goals. Now the focus is on strength training. This episode includes full circle of diet, my re-feeding experience, shift in mindset & goals, overall update.
Endurance, the natural steroid. When obtained rates of progress increase, recovery periods shorter, mental barriers widen. This episode I go through my thought process on the importance of endurance & cardio. Seems much more than merely burning calories.
The Mayweather vs McGregor fight came & went. It was exciting, inspiring, eye-opening. This episode I go through my immediate post fight thoughts, along the inspiration I received from the two gentlemen.
With the new workout routine I've been leaning away from a plant based diet to keep up with protein. Still sticking to whole foods, so there's been a lot of chicken breast & seafood lately. This episode I go through my menu for the past 2 weeks.
Tweaked my calories & macros. Progressed further bodyweight training. Reconnected with like minded buddies. This episode I go through the new food plan, and reconnecting with buddies who have become a support group in a short amount of time.
It took a full 6 months without dropping a single day to get my mind & body into the habit of working out. I went from 30sec workouts to 45-60min every single day. Habit is created, but progression has stalled. This episode I try to crack this glass wall.
I had an epiphany. I've been reserved practicing boxing on my own with no gym & no coach. The comments & posts online about bad habits & injury stemming from practicing alone is loud. I realized the worst habit was being reserved & doing nothing about it.
I was always the fat kid. I've tried a good chunk of diets & exercise methods out there. None of them worked. I've finally understood what works. It's not the method. It's the consistency. This episode I go through building my workout momentum.
I love food. I love the whole process from shopping, to prep, to cooking. A whole food plant based diet may seem impossible, but the truth is I've never enjoyed & appreciated food more than I do now. This episode goes through the journey of diet change.
Weightloss & exercise are just stops along the journey. This episode I go through the big picture, building the ultimate foundation. I touch on motivation, goal setting, diet vs lifestyle change, striving for the journey rather than the end result.
Losing over 100 pounds (46kg) I did zero exercise. The weight cut was done purely on food. Now I slowly begin to incorporate a daily workout routine. This episode goes through the process of building exercise momentum.
In 23 months I lost over 100 pounds. This episode I go through a recap on the process. I touch on motivation, calorie counting, macros, weighing food, vegan, a whole food plant based diet. This is the preface for the 2nd phase of the health journey.
