The problems began when Flint switched its water source from the Great Lakes to the Flint River. For more than a year, lead leached from the pipes because the city failed to add standard anti-corrosion chemicals to the water.

At least 100 children have tested positive for high levels of toxic lead in their blood.  There is no known cure for lead poisoning.  What went wrong here? Could it happen in your neighborhood? What happens now?  Was this as ScientificParent.com contributor and Flint resident, Ontell Babbett describes as "simply a catastrophic failure of leadership or at worst - environmental racism."

Tonight we welcome Babbett to our show as we discuss this entire situation and what the future may hold not only for residents of Flint, Michigan but the rest of the country.

1989's "Do The Right Thing" tells the tale of Salvatore "Sal" Fragione (Danny Aiello) is the Italian owner of a pizzeria in Brooklyn. A neighborhood local, Buggin' Out (Giancarlo Esposito), becomes upset when he sees that the pizzeria's Wall of Fame exhibits only Italian actors. Buggin' Out believes a pizzeria in a black neighborhood should showcase black actors, but Sal disagrees. The wall becomes a symbol of racism and hate to Buggin' Out and to other people in the neighborhood, and tensions rise.  The movie tells the story of a neighborhood's simmering racial tension, which comes to a head and culminates in tragedy on the hottest day of summer.

Right-wing media are claiming that a Republican "War on Women" is phony and invented by the left to distract attention from issues such as the economy and gas prices, but Republicans throughout the country have indeed pushed a plethora of legislation during the past few years that would result in limiting women's reproductive rights, access to health care access, and access to equal pay.  Is this an excuse to introduce a more fundamentalist religious way of life into every aspect of our society?   Have the GOP Republicans becomes America's version of the taliban, determined to set women back 100 years and back in her "place?" Is this "War on Women" real and how can we fight political ideology? Tonight we welcome both sides of the debate as open this discussion.

The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIS) used to have a different name: al Qaeda in Iraq. After President Obama's address to the nation, it clear we will be heading into some type of military conflict with ISIS albeit will this be a repeat of the past of the wars in Iraq & Afghanistan? Is this something we should ignore entirely or do we have a responsibility to that region? Is President Obama hell bent on bringing this country into another war?

Tonight we will be looking at who is ISIS in 2014, the danger they pose and what options, if any, we have. Why is this happening now?  There have been compelling arguments on both sides and we will be going into it all.

We live in a 24/7 digital, hyper-connected world - from Facebook to Instagram, Twitter to Skype, the myriad of ways in which we can connect with our family, friends and community seem to be endless, but in the wake this past week's online scandal where celebrities like Oscar winner, Jennifer Lawrence and actress, Olivia Munn had their naked selfies both stolen and distributed throughout the internet, is anything private anymore?  Recently, Facebook took a huge public relations hit when they attempted to authorize access to users cell phone contact lists, apps and cameras by forcing users to download a messenger app, but Facebook's user numbers have not decreased nor have there been a massive account closings in this scandals wake. Is there a price we have choosen to pay to "exist" in this online world? What can be done to gain our privacy, if anything?  Is this a problem or a unintended consequence of having too much technology before appropriate laws exist to protect us?

A young black man was killed on August 9th. He was shot multiple times by police while walking to his grandmother’s house. He was left to die in the street, his body surrounded for hours by armed sentries while his family and community watched horrified from the sidelines. Michael Brown was unarmed. August 11th would have been his first day of college.  The gun held by a 22-year-old man who was shot dead last week at a southwest Ohio Walmart was just a realistic-looking toy.  Police in the Dayton suburb of Beavercreek fatally shot John Crawford for allegedly waving what appeared to be a rifle at customers in the store. Reports are that the "weapon" may only have been some type of BB or pellet gun that Crawford got and opened in the Walmart.

Black life matters. Yet the police and their media support team have already begun to execute their standard playbook in the aftermath of yet another slain black youth. Tonight we begin this difficult but necessary dialogue by examining each case, both the political and peoples' responses, what contributes to this horrifying trend and what do we do from here? Join us LIVE and have your voice heard.

Our political climate could not get any more contentious if it tried, as we now bear witness to something the GOP has threatened since President Barack Obama first one election in 2008.  We have seen his legitimacy called into question as a President, as a U.S. citizen, as a college graduate, and as a Commander in Chief. Tonight we pull apart the cast against President Obama, the Tea Party's arguments against his presidency and where exactly do we go from here?

Coming out can be a painful process for many in our community as we share our truth with our co-workers, peers, friends and families. While difficult for some, many experience an acknowledgement from their community and are embraced. Tonight, in the face of the rising numbers of LGBTQ youth who attempt and commit suicide, we will be sharing our coming out stories and hope that you join us for the lastest in our LGBTQ series.

Since July generally hosts LBGTQ Pride events through the country, The Final Word Podcast will be addressing pivotal issues and moments throughout our history.

After the Stonewall riots, clergy from faith communities began to educate their congregations on the importance of being inclusive and welcoming to all people, include LGBT members. Faith organizations began to outreach to the broader community, especially after the highly stigmatized outbreak of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The founding of sub-grouped faith organizations for Muslims, Jews, Baptists and so many others began to take root and grow, forcing larger religious institutions to examine their theological teaching and become more publicly inclusive to LGBT people of faith.

Special guests: Fr. Paul Breton from Southern California, ally and youth minister, Ed Noriega, Daniel Barutta, the current chapter President of Dignity Washington & Project End Gun Violence co-chair, Eddie Weingart.

In a deeply divisive case pitting advocates of religious liberty against women’s right’s groups, the Supreme Court said today that two for profit corporations with sincerely held religious beliefs do not have to provide a full range of contraceptives at no cost to their employees pursuant to the Affordable Care Act.

The decision is a victory for the Green family that owns Hobby Lobby, an arts and crafts chain, and the Hahns who own Conestoga, a cabinet making company, who had challenged the so called contraceptive mandate saying it forced them to either violate their faith or pay ruinous fines. They object specifically to four of the drugs and devices at issue because they say they have the potential to destroy an embryo. The government defended the provision as an essential part of health care coverage for women.

What does this mean for future cases? Is this the beginning of a litany of lawsuits and a denial of coverage for women? Does religious freedom overrule a woman's right to self determination? The implications of this ruling may be far  reaching and have a lasting impact on our way of life as Americans. Join us and special guests as we discuss this from all angles.

Join us as we talk about the growing climate of political correctness in this country.  First up, the complex & hidden story behind the Washington Redskins trademark decision.  Given the team's owner's appeals, should this decision stand?  Does this open the floodgates for other teams to be judged?

Next, we'll be talking about the controversy behind LA Clippers basketball team owner, Donald Sterling's racist recording and the consequences; is everything we say, no matter to whom, open to public scrutiny?  Should Sterling have been forced to sell the Clippers?

Lastly, "22 Jump Street" & "The Wolf of Wall Street" actor, Jonah Hill was recently caught using homophobic slurs towards a member of the paparazzi, was his public apology enough? Do we excuse certain behavior and language because its still socially acceptable?

Given that Friday was the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, The Final Word Podcast is reairing its episode on such a pivotal moment in American history

Since July generally hosts LBGTQ Pride events through the country, The Final Word Podcast will be addressing pivotal issues and moments throughout our shared history.

The Stonewall Riots 1969

The Stonewall riots were a series of spontaneous, violent demonstrations by members of the gay community against a police raid that took place in the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn, in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. They are widely considered to constitute the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for gay and lesbian rights in the United States.

After the Stonewall riots, gays and lesbians in New York City faced gender, race, class, and generational obstacles to becoming a cohesive community. Within six months, two gay activist organizations were formed in New York, concentrating on confrontational tactics, and three newspapers were established to promote rights for gays and lesbians. Within a few years, gay rights organizations were founded across the U.S. and the world. On June 28, 1970, the first Gay Pride marches took place in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York commemorating the anniversary of the riots. Similar marches were organized in other cities. Today, Gay Pride events are held annually throughout the country towards the end of June/beginning of July to mark the Stonewall riots.

We will be talking about the LGBT couple in Texas denied joint adoption of their sons through a surrogate; is this trend reflective of the wishes of the American people? Does these need to be addressed federally while states like Texas & Florida drag their feet in the face of equality and protection under the law?

Also, as the World Cup continues, GLAAD is unveiling resources for fans and journalists covering the games Brazil, releasing videos in English and Spanish that call for World Cup fans to say "yes to winning and no to homophobia" as they enjoy this year's matches, with social action links for fans, featuring GLAAD's National Spokesperson, Wilson Cruz and Laura Patalano (Mosquita y Mári) and is directed by Patricia Ovando (Ojos Que No Ven). Has the fight to end homophobia finally gained international traction?

At the forefront of this scandal, leading the charge is the Republican party (I'm shocked), never missing a beat to disparage our President, we'll be looking at their voting record the past few years as well as taking a look at how our government has treated our returning veterans.

Also, on the table, the UCSB drive by shooting leaving 7 dead and a nation left to wonder how many MORE mass shootings must we endure before we seriously address gun control in America? We'll look back at the last five years to the growing number of shootings that have invaded our lives.

Lastly, icon and LGBT activist, RuPaul has faced some tough words for laguage being used on his hit LOGOTV show "RuPaul's Drag Race," tonight we will address that issue, where its coming from and here from RuPaul himself on the matter.

The Final Word Podcast & Say It Sis! With Iya T. Blogtalkradio.com Event

Misgivings on Thanksgiving Part II

Those who are indigenous to this land we call "The United States of America" have been long misrepresented and pushed out of American history textbooks in favor of glorifying those who now rule this nation and represent the dominant culture; what kind of democracy are we when education institutions and teachers refuse to mention the fact that 10 to 30 million Natives were killed at the hands of European invasion and colonialism? What is the point of having a "free mark of ideas" when selective and biased history is being taught to our children?

Tonight we conclude our discussion on the misgivings on Thanksgiving.

If you would like to call in and ask questions you can call into 347-826-7899 to appear in the queue for the show, press 1 to talk to the host.

Today, Gay Pride events are held annually throughout the world toward the end of June to mark the Stonewall riots.
