The Journey Church is a casual, contemporary church right in the heart of New York City. Our mission is to give the people of NYC the best opportunity to become fully-developing followers of Jesus Christ.
This weekend @ The Journey we tackle a question a lot of people struggle with as they wait for their breakthrough... Where is God as I Seek My Breakthrough? Sometimes when we wrestle with a BIG problem – whether it’s a financial problem, a health problem, a relationship problem, an emotional problem or a career problem – our BREAKTHROUGH doesn’t come right away. It’s during those times of waiting and wrestling that we can begin to doubt and wonder – God, where are you? God, what are you doing? This weekend we discover from Scripture what God is doing as we wait on our breakthrough, God’s bigger purposes for our problems and how we can always trust God to come through for us!
This Sunday @ The Journey we continue our teaching series – Breakthrough: Discovering God’s Power for My Problems. Whatever area of my life I want God to bless – I give him first place. Through an overview of God’s prophets at the end of the Old Testament – we see God was using the prophets to call the people back to Him. They called the people to return to their first love. It was a major reorientation to put God in first place. But every time we make a choice and prioritize God and put Him in first place – it deepens our connection with Him and leads to God’s blessing in our lives.
Jesus said blessed are the pure in heart for they will see God. So – there is a clear connection between our purity and deepening our connection with God. And in the Song of Songs, we see God’s plan for sexual purity. But to get to sexual purity – there are some important decisions you need to make along the way.
Sometimes people blame God for pain and allow it to push them away from God. Whether it’s physical pain, chronic pain or enduring emotional pain – pain doesn’t have to be a defeat. Instead, like Job, pain can be a pathway to a deeper connection to God, as we learn to trust his power and how He provides for our needs and sustain us through painful circumstances. In this message, we will explore the purpose of pain, how God uses pain sometimes as a megaphone to get our attention, and how we can allow pain to draw us closer to God rather than pushing us away.
Daniel pursued a deeper connection with God through practicing spiritual disciplines – and in this message, we are going to specifically focus on the discipline of fasting. Fasting is a specific way that I can pursue a deeper connection to God that will strengthen me for whatever I face in life. In this message we will look at: what is fasting… why is fasting a spiritual discipline I should employ in my life… and how fasting can lead to a greater spiritual breakthrough, freedom from the snare of sin, and a key to answered prayer.
This message will look at “where you are going.” God gave us the law through Moses in the Old Testament – not to restrict us – but so we could understand Gods’ best plan and draw closer to Him. And God reveals His plan for our lives and our decisions in His Word – the Bible. When we follow God’s decrees in the Bible – it leads to our best life…to real life.
In this message, we will see how God is always there and working – no matter “what you are going through.” We will look at the story of Joseph. How circumstances were stacked against him. And how he turned to God through all of His problems (the pit, Potiphar, the prison and then the pinnacle). We will learn how life is full of problems. God does not always cause problems. But God can work through your life circumstances to bless you and everyone you come in contact with.
This message will look at “where we come from.” The beginnings of the Judeo-Christian faith began with Abraham and his descendants. The story of our salvation (after having caused sin to enter the world in Genesis 3) begins in Genesis with Abraham and his family. It is through them we see our struggle with sin, how God is with us in the midst of our imperfection and how we are ultimately redeemed. Their lives point to the coming of Jesus as Messiah. The one who will ultimately conquer sin and death.
In the first 3 chapters of the Bible, we discover “who we are.” We are created by God in the image of God. But that image is shattered when sin enters the world. Our sin separates us from God, from who we were created to be and from God’s plan and purpose for our life. But the entire Bible is the story of God’s attempt to redeem us from the Fall. And Jesus can put the broken pieces of the shattered image of God back together in our lives. God made it all. We had it all. We lost it all. Jesus gave it all. So we can have it all again!
In this message you discover “whose you are.” God exists and He is the Creator of all things. It’s by knowing and trusting in God that you discover your purpose for existing and a plan for living. And it’s by getting to know God’s Word that we get to know God and His plan for our lives. That’s why this year is The Year of the Bible and we are challenging you to engage the Bible in 2020 like you never have before.

Because coveting – or simply wanting what others have – doesn’t seem like it’s that big of a deal, right? Wrong! This is a commandment that we all struggle with… perhaps now more than ever. Stealing is something that most of us don’t think that we struggle with, but the trust is that we all steal. Whether it is time from our jobs, credit for someone else’s work, or fudging numbers on our taxes — we have broken this command. Recent surveys of married Americans shows that approximately 25% of married men admit to having committed adultery (1 of 4). 15% of married women. Those are the ones who admitted it – so the real numbers are probably a little higher. Join us Sunday as we address one of the most controversial and pivotal of the 10 Commandments: Do not commit adultery.
Most of us have never murdered anyone, so why is this commandment relevant to our lives. Well, because there is more than one way to murder someone. This Sunday we examine how our actions can destroy those around us even if that isn’t our intention.
The commandment to honor our mother and father can be one of the hardest to fully understand. Whether we had the greatest parents in the world or the worst, God still has something to say to us about this relationship. This Sunday we will examine how our earthly relationships have a large impact on our relationship with our heavenly father.
If you think about it… the Sabbath, and the 7-day week goes all the way back to creation. The Bible says that God worked to create the universe in 6 days, and on the 7th day he rested. He intends for our lives to follow the same pattern. Join us this Sunday as we discover what true rest should look like.
When we think about the 3rd commandment – don’t misuse God’s name – we feel like we can let our guard down a little. I get it don’t swear. Don’t say GD or OMG. It seems less like a bedrock principle and more like a reminder, but this week we will discover that there is much more to what God is trying to tell us here.
The second commandment is very clear: we’re not to make images to represent God in any form. And we are not to worship anything or anyone but God. Why? Because no matter what we imagine or substitute, nothing we ever imagine or substitute could ever do God justice. Join us this Sunday as we dive further into this very foundational commandment.
